- Meet the SAAB J21RA. The J21R was one of only two fighters succesfully converted from a piston and propeller driven aircraft. In War Thunder 1.95, this aircraft is proving to be a very viable little fighter. Despite being slow, it handles axis teams quite well.

I apologize, it's rather dry game play, but this is a very good, very forgiving first generation jet. While I don't have a ton of exciting game play, most of my matches have successfully played out just like this one. Give it a shot, you may really like this aircraft! Nothing really. I'm running WHOOP and a friend is running BOOMR. Originally I was going to stick with just BOOMR squadron, but then realized I should probably secure WHOOP before someone takes it... so we have both now.

@@Squirrel_Xi what i found is that the Idea of putting a Jet engine on the J21 was in the autumn 1945. First flight was in 1947. 1 year later then the Yak15. So i dont think the Idea was a copie.
Its like some people say that Sweden copied the Hawker Hunter because the SAAB J32 looks like it. But they both flew the first time in 1951.

Props to that Me262 pilot. It's not every day you see someone flying a 262 that doesn't suck... usually they turn fight first thing Every. Single. Time.

Seeing a lot of Warthunder videos I get the impression that a lot of "bad vehicles" actually suffer from cases of bad operators. Once in the hand of a skilled operator that do know what to do with it they can be very effective indeed. Then there are those with to much money that grab the most powerful premium stuff that they can get their hands on and still fail, of the same reason. Actual tiger tanks have lost battles to shermans in real combat because their crews knew how to sneak around and not allow those beasts a chance to shoot at them. Heavy armour always came at the prize of an overtaxed engine, the sherman was nimble. Know your weaknesses and make strenghts of them.

Lol yeah my stuff is backwards. I use kmh to match up with the majority, but temps I just never changed, I only watch the color indication.

The J21 aswell as the J21R was armed with one 20 mm autocannon and four 13,2 mm mg's (called autocannons in the Swedish airforce cause it mainly used explosive projectiles). Additional and optional arm was rockets and a cap with eight 8 mm mg's.
Man, that was a really good match for the both of us, although I really wanted to get the ace. I also didn't expect that out of all of the people that the renamed person could've been that it would be someone whose videos I watch! I'm MaterialWharf3 and I wasn't really sure about what I could and couldn't do against the J21 so that was definitely a learning experience for me. I also definitely should've gone to RTB once my engine was damaged but I also didn't want all of my teammates to die so I ultimately decided to stay in the battle. I do have to admit that I did get pretty pissed at the N1K that was groundpounding after I was practically yelling at him in chat to help us out. GG and hopefully Ill get to fight against or with you sometime in the future! (Its also super weird seeing myself on the receiving end of stuff rather than the giving end)

@@WhooptieDo Yeah, you did mention that after I got shot down. I didn't think much of it because my mind was purely focused on getting the MiG-21MF, which I have but struggle with immensely (0.54 kdr but still researching missiles). I don't even think I've been able to pull off a 2 kill match once in that thing. Anyways, if I did still have my engine running full speed it definitely would've been a fun little battle, because you are 100% right about that slow guy thing.

The SAAB J21r has the same number of guns as the p-38 Lighting
I'm really surprised there's not more videos on this plane - it's really fun and I usually get reasonable results in it. Tbh the only jets I really bother with are ww2 and early post ww2 anyway - this one's a gem despite its problems

That bomber pilot pulled a pretty good move on ya if was me I would I seen that coming and pulled off
262 was designed as a jetfighter. J21 started out with pushing propeller. It was later redesigned to take an jet engine.
...and the J21R was soon considered as not a enough good in the hunter/fighter task, so it was mainly used as an attack plane with some fighter capibility.

It seems to fly just like the prop version at its tier.
the prop version is actually really good, well was really good at 3.7 but now I use the a-21 prop version cuz it has the better cannon can't wait to get the jet version since I'll only fight props and 262s

Holy hell, I'm in a whooptievideo!! Didn't realize it was you lol.
The only issue I had with the J21RB (the other version with 8mm gun pod), it was in 1 vs 3-4 (only props), it was easy to escape, but it was much more harder to get a shot, and kill them. Because guns on J21 aren't really efficient, it gives many hits, sometimes some crits, and rarely a direct kill.
Most common issue with this plane, is to get out of ammo. It's aim feels a bit different compared to other plane's guns, so you'll need to learn a bit how those guns works, but it's a good plane.
And the worst ennemy I had, was the J6K1, it's really fast, and it have insane guns, same thing with R2Y2, they're so much faster than you, it wasn't easy to take the J21 in hands.
This jet is getting so spammed out along with A2Ds that if you’re anywhere between 5.7 and 6.7 you will get 6.7 games all the time.

A21RB rips before 800kmh no matter the altitude I take it out on and despite statcarts cannot dance with any jet in its range (and then defeat it) but the Yak 15 15P and 17. Gotta earn the kills in these jets. On Zhengshou when chased I like to give the enemies the canyon run evasive path, works so well it's real real bad we're not earning maneuver kills. Love all my 21s though! Real treat to fly. Forget other countries! (how the hell you get downtiered in it..)
"i not flying it stock" Seriously this plane is a pain with wrong fm and wings ripping off under top speed.
ive been playing this thing stock because i just got it and it is UNBEARABLE to fly. i hope it gets better as i upgrade it.

I wish I knew how to fly tactically. Right now I’m basically just reacting to everything and yanking back on the stick and kick the rudder when someone aims at me.

Is there any reason to take the J-21-RA over the RB? From what I can see, the RB has a better engine and ordnance yet the same frame and BR.
i feel we need some german super props as well like 109k14, because all the allied 6.7 face early jets all the time; not they can't fight them but just the jets can always outrun the super props(spifire mk24, p51H, a2d and j21)
The K-14 is likely going to be worse than the K-4 though. It would be heavier with worse power to weight.
It would be like the old G-6, just no competitor at 6.0/6.3. Not to mention the low rip speed of the Bf-109.

Any thoughts on the A21RB? On the statcard it looks like a better version of the J21RA and you can actually add a gun pod with 8x 8mm guns with no changes in the performance of the plane for some reason
I haven't heard bad things about it, but I also haven't touched it yet personally.

As a fellow twin-boom jet fighter powered by a de Havilland Goblin, how do you reckon it compares to the Vampire?
The vampire is likely to stomp it, I just haven't seen any though. The FB 52 will likely fly circles around it....

It has a better engine, to carry the additional load of an attacker, however, from what I'm told the J21 still performs a bit better. I haven't tested the A21 yet, so I can't say for sure.

J21RA doesn't have a gunpod. The A21RB does though, but I haven't touched it yet.

The a5 without slats, so it turns like an F sabre. The thing is garbage
The A21RB is a better version and costs just as much research points and lions and the J21RA, the A21RB has airbrakes (they are damn small but reduces speed quite sognificantly in a dive or at high speed), a more powerful engine than the J12RA and a higher top speed. Same turnfighting AND you have the chance to mount rockets to it if you would like to.

I find it to turn really well, actually, I'll dogfight pretty much anything in it.
You can dogfight alot of things because your opponent will run out of energy before you do. You don't really out turn them though.

@@motoote256 Yeah, if they discount the F-5, they should have discounted the Mig-17, F86 Pack and the Vantour. Really really weird stuff. They also lied during the Black Friday. They said all Store packs will be discounted and guess what, they weren't. I had to buy the G55S on the full price instead of the discounted one. I put my faith in they "discounts" for the last time :/

Stay fast, run, position, take your shot and run some more. With speed it maneuvers pretty well, but it dumps all that speed in one shot.

Yeah, this thing stock is.... bad. If you want to climb _at all_ you have to take minimum fuel. With 20min it just doesn't climb, turn, or get above 500km/h. Default belts are decent, no useless ball/practice shells.

Sweden is currently on the wrong side. Having the finish planes on their side along with Italian aircraft, German copies of engines and weapons. The 13.2mm being a licensed copy of the mg131.. the db601-605 engines in most of their airplanes. Their radicals are copies of the Italian radial engine. They also supported the axis war effort by giving them a majority of their metal, they barely did anything to the allies, they did give metal to allied forces and such. Just because a nation says it’s neutral doesn’t mean it should be allied but gaijin I guess didn’t do enough research. It’s annoying to go against axis planes while playing axis.. it’s now a 6v3 because that’s fair and historical because Sweden totally fought in Poland. I’m just so annoyed how the allied teams now are always winning fights. And axis going against their own planes every single game now. And I doubt gaijin is gonna fix it since a lot of people don’t know what position Sweden had in the war. Allied forces even wanted to invade Sweden at a time to stop them giving axis powers metal and to stop a future alliance with Germany because of the growing air force Sweden had from GERMANY and ITALY.
One can argue that multiple ways. Right now aircraft from the 40s are fighting aircraft from decades later in this battle rating. It's not right, but for the sake of balance, I think it's alright for now. Half of your matches at this battle rating are mixed anyways.

WhooptieDo it really isn’t I prefer balance over most things, even though I hate things so much that way because of realism. It’s more fun to have the br system that’s why I agree with it, it’s only annoying when things get unbalanced. And if I ever want realism I’m terms of vehicles and their era I’ll just play sim. But for realistic battles.. having Italian aircraft go against Italian aircraft every match along with their own made and nations that were on their side is unbalanced and unrealistic to a point I do not like it and plenty others don’t either. If I want all nations vs all nations that’s what arcade is for. I’m arguing this not to be rude I’m sorry if it is I don’t mean to be that one guy commenting. I just wanna raise awareness how the game is unbalanced.. and I’ve tried warthunder forums not a very good place for opinions from other players since 5 other people who know nothing have just as much say. I don’t mean to make them sound stupid it’s just the truth, 5 people could say that Sweden was neutral so they should be allied yet in reality they gave more forces and received forces from axis powers and other details. Granted I should take it to forums as well which I have done..... oh and forgot to mention from what I’ve been told. It doesn’t matter how big the tail is for a plane to be maneuverable, it matters the location of the wings and center of mass of the plane. The closer the wings are to the center of mass the more unstable but more maneuverable.
WhooptieDo for sure but they have done a decent job worth noting. Just could be improved. Maybe stop changing br based on how players fly the plane?
@@adonai4493 all your points are completely valid. No arguement there. I've beaten this one to a pulp, and like most people I've kinda given up on it. Mixed it not fun, fighting your own aircraft is not fun.
Like you have, I've also encountered people that believe mixed is fine, etc. It's a dead horse sadly. I just find a plane I like, fly it for awhile and move on these days.
