12 Stones dude rapping was the main part of the song I even cared about!! 😂😂 Evanescence never truly captured the nu-metal vibe; it's just that song-basically. Even bands like Orgy and Deadsy were more nu-metal, and they could be considered "black sheep" of the genre. Evanescence was just kind of a radio-rock / alternative rock band. I wouldn't consider them nu-metal, or any type of metal. Even calling 'em nu-adjacent _(because of one song)_ is kind of a stretch. Alternative rock? Sure! That describes them more accurately. And I'm not a chauvinist or some chit like that. There's plenty of actual female NU-metal bands. Check out Defenestration, Kittie, Velcra, and Otep; amongst others.
Fun fact: the reason theres a male vocalist in the song isn't because they wanted rapping in one song but because the execs GENUINELY believed Amys voice alone could not carry the band. They thought nobody would care because shes a woman in a male dominated music scene at that time. Now, this seems silly because of Amys successful solo career and multiple albums that Evanescence has put out since the dude was removed from the band. The fact that these fools heard Amys voice and decided she wasn't good enough shows how absurdly out of touch music execs can be.
OK, you're right that their reasoning was asinine. Now with that said, let's admit that the song is better because of their demand. It didn't have to be a male rapper, but the fact that it is a duet with two distinct, different voices adds a layer to the song that makes it exponentially better. Without that layer, the song is very good; great even. With that layer, the song becomes the mega hit that it was. Everybody knows the song and the reason they know it was because it was a stand out and that extra layer of depth to the vocals is the difference that made it stand out. Dual vocals is why the song is by far their biggest hit.

The debut album has elements of nu metal due to the record company. Evanescence is not a nu metal band. BMTL's nu metal/rap rock was forced on by their label back then as a sexist demand to market at the time. Before that, their label had demanded they permanently add a male vocal-rapper to the band because they and radio claimed there wasn't a market for a female-led hard rock band. i love how amy lee originally wanted it to be just her but the execs thought it wouldn’t work out having JUST a female lead singer in the band so they put literally some random guy in the background so it would be “more likeable” and they had to have a different random guy on tour doing the vocals for that song everytime i’m glad amy was able to recreate it in her own way how it was intended
There is the original version available before they added the rap to it. I think it was on their technically first album Origin, sadly it was leaked and isnt available for purchase but theres a bunch of videos on youtube with the full album.
no, he was just a feature. he's the lead vocalist in the band 12 Stones. originally the record label were going to hold auditions and after EV was backing out, the label caved and tried to make a compromise by inviting lead vocalist of 12 Stones to join them for the song, 'cause they already had promised it to the movie soundtrack to Daredevil ( which the scene was back and forth showing the female and male leads ) and EV caved as well, allowing that to be the only song to feature male vocals. Amy was originally wanting 'Going Under' to be their first single, but it was pushed to be the 2nd single off the album.
I wonder how it would sound like though. I remember that they wanted 6 songs in the album to have rap part? I wonder what are those 6 songs? And I LOVE Bring Me To Life because of the production (The electric guitar is SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I've NEVER heard of any other Rock songs that sound like this!!!) and the male rap part, because it makes the song sounds faster!!! (And I wanna make this kinda music in the future, and the subject is gonna be about the bully that I've been through and the toxic family that makes me SOOOOOO FUCKING ANGRY btw. That's the music that I wanna make and also maybe transition to some EDM Pop music like early 2010's American Pop music btw. I think that that's my FAVORITE genre.)
They still play this song live but it goes just as hard without the guy. Seeing Evanescence live definitely brings a tear to the eye. Especially “My Immortal”
I've seen Evanescence live twice after believing i wouldn't even get to see them once (during their decade long break, iykyk) and have loved both experiences and hope i can someday say i saw them more
if not for that song they wouldn't ever have been as successful tbh, i understand wanting to protect your art but sometimes it's important to let it go as well
The problem is, the record label was being blatantly sexist at the time. They legitimately were trying to force the band to hire a full-time male rapper because "There's no market for a rock band with only female vocals".
I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing this song again, and I’ll be happy about it.. it got old after the 1000000 time they played it on the radio.
Right now they are doing more pop and rock music .only amys clothes are goth inspired .theyr actual music is now softer rock with some metal and pop elements
Noone talks about it but Imaginary, (which i to this day still call paper flowers) is one of my top five songs from that era of music. It definitely had more power and beauty than most of the "numetal" era.
“Dude rapping on it”. His name is Paul McCoy, and most of what he sung wasn’t rap, but hard rock. But hey, the music industry names it what they want, and who are we as mindless puppets to say otherwise?
I feel like the guy rapping and singing the hook with her is awesome. The music executive who made that decision is a genius. Look how many views this song has on RUclips they're still making money off this song.
He wasn't a genius, he was a sexist who unintentionally caused a good result from the wrong decisions and reasoning. His logic was that a female voice can't carry a rock band and he was forcing the band to add male rap parts to be more marketable. He wanted them to literally add a full-time male rap vocalist and take away the spotlight from Amy entirely. He wasn't a genius, he was an idiot whose idiocy accidentally made something good.
Oh yeah I saw Evanescence and Halestorm in concert (amazing show) and the rap part it omitted, I think it was only kept in during her first tour and omitted afterwards.
Ben Moody, a mediocre, one-note guitarist, a commercial tyrant, and a toxic, longtime abuser. Nobody who loves Ev or likes musicianship in general misses his detracting and toxic ass.
I’m a fan of reggae and dub. But my god, I fucking LOVE evanescence. Maybe it’s that they featured in an extremely important moment in my life, but I will stand by this band until the end of time.

i love how amy lee originally wanted it to be just her but the execs thought it wouldn’t work out having JUST a female lead singer in the band so they put literally some random guy in the background so it would be “more likeable” and they had to have a different random guy on tour doing the vocals for that song everytime i’m glad amy was able to recreate it in her own way how it was intended
Better with the rap. Js..
There is the original version available before they added the rap to it. I think it was on their technically first album Origin, sadly it was leaked and isnt available for purchase but theres a bunch of videos on youtube with the full album.
I feel like you guys should stop focusing so much on the male/female part
"random guy".
Oh jeez...you must not have been alive when Fallen was released...
Oh my god this debate never ends , the song was awesome .. amy lee was awesome, the male vocal made it even better . End of discussion
Nothing wrong with being in a category with those bands, some of my favorites and very successful.
That dude isn't part of the band? 💀I've loved this song for so long. Weird how little I know about the artist
no, he was just a feature. he's the lead vocalist in the band 12 Stones. originally the record label were going to hold auditions and after EV was backing out, the label caved and tried to make a compromise by inviting lead vocalist of 12 Stones to join them for the song, 'cause they already had promised it to the movie soundtrack to Daredevil ( which the scene was back and forth showing the female and male leads ) and EV caved as well, allowing that to be the only song to feature male vocals. Amy was originally wanting 'Going Under' to be their first single, but it was pushed to be the 2nd single off the album.
The rap was terrible. Cringy and awful.
If anyone wants to know what the movie was, it's Daredevil 2003 with Ben Affleck.
They wanted evanescence whole album to have a rap part every song.
I'm trying to figure out where the studio would put the rap in Hello
They still play this song live but it goes just as hard without the guy. Seeing Evanescence live definitely brings a tear to the eye. Especially “My Immortal”
Fallen has been officially certified DIAMOND in the US for selling over 10M copies 🙌 WHAT A LEGEND!
Props on the winged eagle by the way. Coolest heavyweight belt ever created!!
And its a ppv theme in wwe 2003 in no way out
I've seen Evanescence live twice after believing i wouldn't even get to see them once (during their decade long break, iykyk) and have loved both experiences and hope i can someday say i saw them more
She's a godess
The movie was Daredevil I had the VHS and the music video played after the movie
if not for that song they wouldn't ever have been as successful tbh, i understand wanting to protect your art but sometimes it's important to let it go as well
Which they did :)
@@FutileGriefWhich he said is the lesson :)
Actually evanessence is gothic rock genre.
Right now they are doing more pop and rock music .only amys clothes are goth inspired .theyr actual music is now softer rock with some metal and pop elements
alternative metal and hard rock too. and that all together often goes to nu metal
Noone talks about it but Imaginary, (which i to this day still call paper flowers) is one of my top five songs from that era of music. It definitely had more power and beauty than most of the "numetal" era.
tbh the rap lines in the chorus was SO well inserted, the song genuinely is better for it
Real retard moments
An the song we all love an know is now a classic an legendary we I'll never forget
“Dude rapping on it”. His name is Paul McCoy, and most of what he sung wasn’t rap, but hard rock. But hey, the music industry names it what they want, and who are we as mindless puppets to say otherwise?
It was rap.
@@LAkadian right bro was spitting
I wouldn't have considered what Paul McCoy did as rapping either. 🤷🏻 I LOVED 12 stones back then!
Yes he growl and he rap, a kind of mix. I never heard a rapper growling for sure
@@marcandreveilleux2485Listen to Linkin Park - Blackout, you will hear a second rapper growling there
She is perfect, have everything.. Voice, look, music style, simply perfect
Synthesis is AMAZING!!
Yeah, they're Alternative Metal/Gothic Metal, some some Nu Metal influneces here anf there m
I miss nu metal. Those were some good years
Fun fact, they have the rap-less version on the radio now and it's pretty damn empty sounding
I really love her music 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Whatever happened to kitty
They're still out there touring I don't know if it's the original lineup
In Evanescence's " Going Under", the bridge where Amy sings " IIIIIIIIIII FALLLLL AGAIIINN" I get ASMR chills
"Dude rapping on it" Made the song what it is today and is the sole reason the song has any sort of popularity, she can choke on that
lmao ok bud
Honey please...
Amy Lee has incredible vocals and that's why the song was famous. But the song is really good with the rap part in it
The delusion 😂
@@carpediemearth she has thinking she's the reason that song is popular
Oh yeah I saw Evanescence and Halestorm in concert (amazing show) and the rap part it omitted, I think it was only kept in during her first tour and omitted afterwards.
Evanescence was never Nu- Metal dude.
sry but yes they were
@@Parker--then it’s pretty clear you have no idea what Nu-Metal is.
@@AmnesjahNo, _your_ problem is that I actually understand the ambiguity of nu-metal, kiddo.
I was lucky enough to have a parent into evanescence when i was growing up, i new damn near every song
I miss Ben Moody in the band :(
Ben Moody, a mediocre, one-note guitarist, a commercial tyrant, and a toxic, longtime abuser. Nobody who loves Ev or likes musicianship in general misses his detracting and toxic ass.
Been a fan since their first single. I'm seeing them in October. 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Numetal is unbelievably awful. Can’t believe that was the sound of the early 2000s
It’s amazing bring me back to life has over a billion views well done I never really liked the song but that’s pretty amazing
But Evanescence is still nu metal eaven it their other songs sound different
There’s a demo version of the song on the 20th anniversary edition and it incredible.
I’m a fan of reggae and dub. But my god, I fucking LOVE evanescence. Maybe it’s that they featured in an extremely important moment in my life, but I will stand by this band until the end of time.
It’s a great song and it’s perfect. Call the genre Whatever you wanna call it. It’s great.
Amy is a force of nature ⚡⚡⚡
My dad listened to evanescence, I listen to evanescence
Whatever music he had in a playlist 10 years ago is the music I have in a playlist too, with some newer stuff included
I love the band so much
This rapping in the middle of a song is now done regularly !
You’re a stud 😮💨🙌🏻
I like both versions but the male vocals version is much better
They last album from 2021 also has synthesizer sounds, and I think it's a true nu metal album
I love Fallen, it has no skips
Thank you, May God bless you, her, them and everyone. ❤
it's amazing how she looks like jonathan davis now, both of them were my high school crushes
Such style ,RESPECTED
God her smile is so beautiful
It's a good juxtaposition, they compliment each other very well. But I'm glad they continued on with their own style.
Whats funny is that they at one point did this song live with Coby from Papa Roach on guest vocals.
i still need more songs like bring me to life
She also manage to get popular with all the fans of nu-metal with this song which increased her popularity.
Do a pop punk bands that hated being called pop punk or Emo bands that hated being called Emo please
I listen to evanescence to this day.
