    Basically, a Hot Spring is a pool of water that has lava flowing underneath the rocks, making the water boil

    • @therealgwiz
      @therealgwiz 5 месяцев назад +57

      The main cause was because the water springs here have either extremely basic or acidic pH, both of which (if strong enough) can kill you..
      In specific this spring had a pH of 2, which is very acidic.. Adding the extreme temperatures of the "Hot spring" you basically just melt like a snowman 😬

Side note, I'm soooo glad his friend was there, otherwise he'd just be another one of the thousands of people (mostly men) that disappear in a national forest. He would have been part of the missing 411. That story is extremely disturbing and sad. I know it would be difficult, but I wouldn't jump in a hot spring like that to save someone or anything, since more lives would just be lost. I would try a different approach. I would have them grab something, anything I could grab to try to pull them out, still risking the same fate, but not just jumping in and blinding myself.
    As for a dog, I would be trying to lift the dog out with an object or something so I don't just jump in and join the suffering, putting myself at a big disadvantage. I feel so sorry for the family, my heart goes out to them and the poor dog. Rest in peace. ❤

    The fact that I was wearing a yellowstone hoodie while watching this- also, stuff like this still happens. I'm surprised the guy didn't feel the heat before he jumped in, but of course he had his mind set on saving the dog. Cool story.

    Those hot springs are found in Iceland too. I remember seeing a picture in Compton's Pictured Encyclopedia (I know! I'm old!) of a person cooking a freshly caught fish in the steam from a hot spring. There was also a picture of a greenhouse built on a hot spring where bananas were growing.

    Yellowstone is NOT a dog-friendly park. You cannot take your dog on any trails, even on a leash and you cannot leave them in the car and go away from it. Those are the park rules, not suggestions.
    Not only are the hot pools deadly, but there are animals like bears and moose and elk that will be attracted to your dogs and attack because they want to eat them or because they don't like them and want to drive them away.
    Also dogs would poop and pee on the fragile ecosystems around the hot pools. You are not allowed to walk off the trails near them. Do not bring your dog to Yellowstone Park.

    One of my parents, mother I think, was on the ambulance call for that situation, or similar one. I remember being told about it. Both parents were volunteers with the ambulance, in West Yellowstone, hence not sure which one.

    If you ever swim in a hot spring that won't boil you alive, remember to rinse yourself with clean water when you're done. Many chemicals in the water can cause skin irritation and horrible rashes. Stay safe!

  • @BiffTannon1983
    @BiffTannon1983 3 месяца назад

    Yup. It's often much hotter than boiling, with seeing any bubbles, too. Water boils at 221°F at 1 atmosphere, but can reach up to 705°F, before visibly boiling. 😳
