This is surely one of the best assassination masterplans of this generation. I'm both impressed and horrified.
I wouldn't be surprised if the idea came directly from the North Korean president. He wanted to be a movie director, supposedly.
@@student99bg Could be, yeah.
Naw, the truly great ones are never known muahahahaha 😂
I bet the "agents" were assassinated, so they could never reveal their part in the assassination!
@@student99bgoh that’s barely even a conspiracy, more of a fact that Kim Jong un planned the assassination of his brother.

And some humans are allergic to cats
the fact that you didn't reveal what this was until after the fact to put us in the shoes of siti makes this story so much more entertaining and terrifying. masterful storytelling as always!

That's something out of a movie. I was expecting the 'prank show' to be a farce for trafficking, but it very quickly turned into a thriller film. Great storytelling, Mr. Ballen! The suspense was amazing.
Ikr wtf
When the 2 women were arrested they spent a long time in prison. The charges weren't 'quickly dropped'. The court found them both guilty & dismissed their explanations of what happened.
No it says charges were dropped in 2019
@@MisterPrimordial I guess they are half right. That would be about 2 years in prison and most would agree that's not a "short time" depending on who you ask. I mean I know people who've done 15+ so to them, sure but to an "innocent" person 2 years is quite a long time.

I've heard this story several times, such a terrible situation all around. Those girls were duped into an actual hit and could have also suffered a deadly reaction too. It's sad because he was actually a decent family man doing what he could to not be associated with the destruction of his family name. He used a different name on his passport and traveled commercial so his true identity wasn't even known until after he died.
Agreed, I feel so sorry for the victim, he was the only decent one in the "main" family.

Ironically, Kim Jong Un has two other siblings he hasn't killed, but one is a full-blood sister and the other half brother is considered "useless" so that could be why.
I think that was the intention of "James" in order to leave absolutely no witnesses

I actually read an article about this a while ago, but it's great to see it presented in such a masterful way on this channel, in this form! On a related note to the story itself, I had a Korean roommate in college (this is in the US) who went to kindergarten with Kim Jong Un (yes, seriously) in Switzerland. She obviously had no idea who he was, but she clearly remembers one time when he tried to play with her on the playground, and she rejected his attempts to play. Since they were both Korean, her parents spoke with Kim Jong Un during some kind of parent visitation day (no, his parents were not there!), and found it odd that he was speaking in the form of Korean that an elder would use to address people younger. Later on, when they were no longer living in Switzerland, her dad happened to come across a newspaper article about Kim Jong-Il and his family. In the article, it spoke about how Kim Jong-Il's son was going to school in Switzerland, and there was a picture of him, and voila, the parents realized why the little boy they had met in their daughter's kindergarten spoke Korean in a strange way and didn't have any parents with him on parent visitation day. Just had to share that because it's such a crazy thing to happen..
That really was horrifically one of the best assassinations ive ever heard but still super messed up at the same time
I knew this story, but it was really masterful to tell it from the point of view of one of the girls. It's really clear how they both were recruited unknowingly for this.
Yeah, I heard this story, too, but I had wondered what happened to the girls. This whole thing was tragic, and this must be very hard for them to deal with, knowing that they had (unknowingly at the time) participated in an assassination.
@@lopachillaalong with putting literal poison in their hair
Unknowingly?? 😳
@@lopachillayeah, I remember when it happened, and the most of what I kept up with was the part about the two women who did this awful thing. I thought that they were really guilty. I now find out by watching Mr. Ballen, the subsequent events related to this heavy duty incident. Thanks to Mr. Ballen for clearing it up for me!❤
Its bs.I'm surprised and a bit disappointed Mrb fell for the cover story
Oh god, I remember when this happened. I felt so bad for the unsuspecting women. Knowing her background makes this even more tragic.
I found what Mr. Ballen said about this video very unusual. He said that most people probably do not know about this incident. I know about this one but I know about 1% or less of the other ones that Mr. Ballen posts.
I remember digging into both of those girl's history when this happened - knew exactly what this story was when I heard the first name, Im so glad the charges got dropped for them
You feel bad for the women? Oh no not the guy who died and is the only person possible who could change the now 70 years of hell for north Korean people. Lmao some people really don't deserve speaking privileges.
griffinq8003 It took me until he said that two girls were going to spray stuff on another "actor" to realize where this was going.

I’m glad you told it from Siti’s POV instead of ‘James’. Also, you’re right. It’s shocking this hasn’t been made into a movie or at least a documentary
As soon as I heard "Japanese producer", I knew.
But of course, I don't know the story because it hasn't been made into a big budget movie
@@refundreplay haha 😉
Yeah, that was the point I knew what was going to happen. I almost ignored the Japanese prank producer part. 😂
What are you talking about, National Geographic made an documentary about this..
@@NygmaNL Yeah, they did. They also suspected that Nam had links with the CIA and Kim ordered his execution. But I am a bit skeptical about the CIA part.
Does anyone have any other theory?
I'm from Malaysia! And thanks for covering this story! This was a huge thing back in the day, and because of this, both North Korea and Malaysia two-way ties had deteriorated and resulted in the closure of diplomatic embassy offices in both countries respectively. Today, the building that housed the North Korean embassy in Malaysia, is currently occupied by a kindergarten.
Things are so different in united States of America too
Is the kindergarten named Garden of Ban Ban?
Thank you so much for sharing your information. I did not know any of this.
Good F North Korea
That’s probably for Malaysia’s best interest to be honest. Rocketman is one scary man child.
It's pretty amazing how Mr. B knows the thoughts of so many of these victims moments before their demise.... He's a true enigma...
I remember this thing happening very well. It’s a testament to Mr Ballen’s storytelling talents to tell this story in such a way as for it to not obvious until the very end! Brilliant stuff!!
Dude it’s like you were made to tell these stories. You’re so good at it and you draw us in as the story unfolds. You and your team are killin it in here on RUclips! Nice job sir
right!?
im convinced i know how he does it. he uses small maybe lies to give realness and substance. how they feel, why they did certain things, movements they did…much of these are likely impossible to know unless he watched footage or did interviews. Like i think he explained one time..he does a lot of research and then stews in it, basically letting his subconscious do the decoding. And because he knows himself, people and has attention to detail, he fills in the blanks with what likely anyone of us would do or feel. And since these little maybe lies dont change any of the story or facts, its a major win-win.
Analyze this sometime, think of it from a logical standpoint…next story you hear, look for little details that a detective wouldnt know, but ballen fills those in with realistic behaviors and thoughts. Like a bank robber…he doesnt know the thoughts exactly, but hell say like “even though this was his 6th robbery, and should feel comfortable with the sequence of events, the recent discovery of his girlfriend’s pregnancy had Bill thinking of his future and mortality more than ever as he walked into the fifth third bank on the corner of arizona blvd and center street”
In my example, it’s obvious ballen wouldnt know thats what he was thinking. but hed know the recent knowledge of the gf pregnancy and how that would affect anyone and invade and change their thinking.
this may sound like i dislike mrballen. not at all the case. this is amazing storytelling. i loved wrestling too…i know much of that is “fake”….i appreciate the art

MrBallen is different from most storytellers because he fills in the blanks, he makes you see the story in a first-person view rather than a third-person one. Which makes his story seem more personal and easy to get sucked in. And I think that’s very interesting.

I remember the coverage of this story that concluded the girls had been locked up and the key thrown away. It's good to hear they weren't held accountable.
Doan spent 27 months in a malaysian prison, Siti was released and returned home. Doan was the only one ever convicted for the killing. None of the ones who set it up and used these two poor women to commit this crime were ever charged.
When you showed the CCTV pictures, I knew what this was. It's a real shame the real culprits will never be able to be held accountable for it. These "crimes" committed by and for the government will always go unpunished.
I am sure for 100% that the law of karma will catch these culprits sooner or later!!
Pretty much what happens with every gov. All that power, and they can go unpunished. Only those controlled by the gov - the civilians - are punished by the law.

Yeah the evil brother name is kim jong un, the most r3t4rded person in the whole world.
This is why r3t4rded ppl tend to be dictator, bcs they knew they're nothing and just an idiot.
When he mentioned something about “Wet Cloth” I immediate knew it was the assassination of Kim Jong Nam R.I.P the better Kim’😢
You are definitely one of, if not the fav, favorite narrators. You speak to the audience as though we are sitting in your living room having a drink while "you tell us a tale" .. absolutely luv it 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 thanks so much for all your hard work researching & producing these vids! 😊
I love him as well as Stephanie from Rotten Mango. I first heard this on her channel. She really good at retelling the news stories as well. They can tell the same news recaps yet you get 2 different narratives of that same story.
Girls have a huge EASY BUTTON laid out in front of them. When life gets a tiny bit abrasive, you hit the EASY BUTTON and all problems are taken care of by a man or are dismissed. ITS EASY YAYYY.
When you said pranks, 2 women and public places I knew the case. Thanks for telling it so well.
This one was incredible! What an epic twist at the end - this might be your best story yet. Thank you Mr. Ballen
i had heard this story before and its actually insane ,and im glad millions of people will now know that as well thanks to you
Ahh, Sunday afternoon with MrBallen. What could be better?! ❤
It's early in the morning in Australia
🙌🙌🙌
Annoying the hell out of the like button
There's nothing better, but, if you speak Spanish, and I know Mr Ballen also has a podcast En Español, no disrespect at all here mentioning it, but there's also, Sunday evenings, Estela Naïad... Kinda like a female version of Mr Ballens videos, but in Spanish.. 🙂 Mr Ballen, you've probably seen Estela...😉 I'm almost sure.
My two favorite video story tellers, in their genre..
@@MrBallenwhen you gonna drop a story about aliens or paranormal stuff so I can immediately get scared by your thumbnails☠️☠️
I knew he had been assasinated, but i had no idea about the details or how intricate the plot was. That was fascinating. Thank you for your incredible method of telling a story. You can made a story ive heard a thousand times sound fresh and new.
When you said ‘prank show’ it clicked in my head what story you were telling! Great video
I LOVE MR BALLEN! you dont know how much you help people with ADHD that always need to have something in the background. keep it up and i hope the best for you and all your close ones!
I hadn't heard about this story before... but halfway through the video, I knew EXACTLY where this was going. Kudos to the way you laid this story out and delivered it.
I have watched your videos every single day all day for a week straight. I’m a stay at home mom. You made my days so much better. Thank you ❤
This man is one of the best storyteller I've ever heard....besides my kindergarten teacher probably 😂
I already knew the story of what happened to Kim-Jon-Nam, but I always wondered about what happened to the girls who performed the assassination and how they got involved in it. Thanks MrBallen for filling me in.
Actually, he never said what happened to the girls.
@@Federico-cc7hche did say they didn't get executed tho
so my guess is probably in jail for a long while before being declared innocent and set free (police and crap are slow so prob like 3 years at least) then went home to parents
@@RustyNips Well I did some research and turns out they got a couple of years in prison and were then released.
So, if it was indeed just a guesstimation, kudos to ya! And a like to your comment ;)
@@Federico-cc7hcruclips.net/video/tLJOnYLiBgA/видео.htmlsi=9AFv3ETn0L02yv6f here is a video from rotten mango, many details with what happened prior and after the incident, with the jail time and all. Super well done video in my opinión!!

I find it crazy that James got to see the world and still went back.
Great content and superb storytelling. Good stuff brother!
Stephanie Soo did a deep dive on this case on her podcast. Loved hearing it from you too! Such an insane case.
I know right... I was like. Heyy wait a minute.. This sounds familiar 😂 also from Malaysia
I had heard a little about this story & the assassination, but had no idea of the extent of it & or "the prank" nor these two women behind it all. How dreadful & so frightening for these two naive & trusting girls who were just trying to better their lives to support family back in their country. Thank you so much for all your stories they are told so descriptively clear, & your voice emphasis on words & certain sentences are excellent & captivate, I'm sure thousands of other people & myself agree you have a very special gift. Keep safe & well & I really appreciate this story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yeah, it’s sad considering they actually both do look beautiful
I miss the days when Mr. Ballen uploaded videos of the strange, dark & mysterious on RUclips 3Xs a week!! But I understand he’s very busy storytelling on other platforms because he has such a HUGE following. As he should because he is the BEST!
Used to be 3 4 even 5 times a week
Right? He really is The best! 💕🇨🇦
I miss those days so much, too!! And of course I listen to his podcast but as amazing as his podcast is, it just doesn't hit quite the same as his videos. The videos are much more engaging, sort of like he's conversing with you or telling a story around a campfire. The podcast has more of an audio book feeling to it. It's just a much different experience in my opinion and I personally prefer the video format. In any case, I'm not going to miss my weekly dose of strange, dark and mysterious no matter how it comes!
Me too. But I do understand. Sundays are the best days for me because that's the day the new video comes out for me!
Same, but not only is he busy telling us stories, but he’s using his earnings to help others! He’s the best.
You are a master story teller! I've heard this story before but i didn't know what it was about for the first 5 mins bc you always do it masterfully to preserve the mystery
I still remember seeing this in the news
Holy cow! I was in that airport shortly before this happened, and I remember being blown away by the hit...but I had no idea about this aspect of it! GREAT story choice! As always, told very well!!! Keep the videos coming!
Been having one of the worst days of my life today. Then I noticed MrBallen uploaded and suddenly i’m the happiest man in the world. Love what you do Mr. Ballen!!
Sorry about your day.
Sorry you've had a bad day, hope tomorrow is better.
Not many content creators can have me invested for long periods of time without funny or cool edits, which is why i rarely watch full podcasts but mostly highlights. But some people just got it, I sit there and watch video after video of someone talking/educating. (Also why school was boring to me) But to be able to do both and have it flow smoothly? That's a A list creator for real. Keep it up MrBallen
What in the name of a FREAKEN PLOT TWIST Was this?!?!?!?
Great episode, John!
I think most of us remember this political assassination, but we had no idea how the young women were tricked into performing the act. What an elaborate, effective, and horrible tactic. Those poor girls. The way they were victimized and deceived probably altered the trajectory of their lives forever.
Of course, being killed via VX was a torturous way to die. He had enough time to know he was going to die and probably knew his brother was responsible.
Also, this reminds me of Navalny's more recent political assassination attempt with Novichok. Even though everyone knows about it because of the footage recorded on the aircraft he was on, you would be great at putting together the timeline and telling the full story in a compelling and interesting way.
Russians again, really. Come on! Who cares...
@@joniquell5187 I do!
The last thing I heard about it was that it was female assassins. My imagination of the incident was much cooler than the reality. No tight leather outfits, motorcycles or ninja flips. Bummer.

You don't but there's sleuths of people who do.

I love how mr ballen can turn a story into almost a feature length film lol. Its amazing
😂
@@MrBallen this just made my day. I love your content and thanks for service. I am in the army and you inspire me to follow my dreams so much.
@@MrBallenyou need an intro?
I watched your videos before going to sleep for my bedtime story 😂
Some episodes seem to purposeful in adding details and twists in the spirit of good storytelling, but this one was one of the best! There are far more good videos, but this was truly one of the best
The ending caught me off guard, great storytelling Mr. Ballen
I love how familiar Mr ballen feels when telling stories, like an old friend.
Thank you for the storytelling, Mr Ballen. It really is lessons, and info all at the same time. I am entertained and frightened at the same time. But, I can't look away.
He speaks more with his hands than his words. Love this guys’ content
i feel like if he were to break his arm or wrist, he wouldn't be able to talk, lol
