My dad died when I was an infant. When I was young 3-6 I had dreams of being with my dad and exploring with him. Later when. I was 16 or so I found a tape he had that had this song on it. Kinda felt like he was there with me. Still kinda feels that way when I listen to it. Amazing song.
Yeah, this is much more palatable and the vocals are beautiful but I really had trouble with Empire after hearing OPM. It is a masterpiece almost all the way through. It has standouts in the same way that Dance of Eternity is a step above anything else Dream Theater did on Scenes From a Memory. It’s above perfect. Learning to Live is a good contender with the weird alternating 15/8 opening. That one has singing too! I would never choose this song for any reason except the vocal performance here has a lot of range and it’s spectacular. Not keen on it otherwise.

Daddy’s girl here too, he was the most important male in my life from when I was a toddler until my son was born when I was 30. He was the centre of my world for so long. I lost him in December 2022 and I would wake sobbing for him like I was still that little girl who didn’t even want her dad to go to work and be away from me. It’s his anniversary in 3 days, 2 years without this man who taught me so much, especially what to look for in a man of my own and the standards he showed me that I deserved and to never settle for anything less than I was worth. In 1992, I nearly lost my child, he died and was brought back 6 times over 3 months aged 5. He is now 33, has a profound learning disability as a consequence. This song alone gave me strength and got me through that time. It is and remains his favourite song to this day. I will be eternally grateful to GT and Queensryche for connecting with us in such a profound and unexpected way.

Let's be honest here. In High School, all the metal guys wanted was loud and fast. At least in North America. I went to school with dozens of them, knew many more outside of school. Anything slow sucked. Of course there were always exceptions, but it takes maturity age and wisdom to move on from the basic metal pallet.

I used to play this for my daughter when she was a baby to help put her to sleep. I would walk around with her while it played. In February of 2020 we were lucky enough to see Queensryche live and hear the song together again while singing our hearts out along with them. When she was 18, she asked that her first tattoo be matching tattoos, which we did Silent Lucidity. She is 25 now. Every time I hear this song, I tear up. It has so many great memories. It gave so much more to us than just music.
This song is sacred to me, my wife's heart stopped, and thank God the doctors were able to revive her, but it left her with a significant level of anxiety relating to death, whenever she's struggling, I sing this song to her, thank you for this one

AJ Reynolds, I have to beg to differ. There is only 1, that can't be truly touched. Even as he got older, his voice got even better! Steve Perry(Ex-lead singer for Journey) is a rock God, with his vocal's. Geoff, as well as countless other vocalist's have tried to match the king of vocal's, as they all fell short. Don't get me wrong, Geoff has some killer vocal's, as well. But, Steve is in a whole other realm of his own! If I am not mistaken, the style of Geoff's vocal's, was inspired by Steve's vocal's, how he started out with his strong ability to get the word's out perfectly, then changing to that raspy voice, that he transferred to, after his surgery, that he was still able to get the clarity, but he was able to hit the right note's, with that rasp integrated into it, toward's the end, that made it even more unique. Like I said though, don't get me wrong, Geoff has his own level, as well. But, like I was sayin, Steve has such a unique voice, that has never been rivalled before. Arnel Pineda(The lead singer from the Philippines, who took over for Steve, in Journey.), came close, but still couldn't fit in Steve's shoe's... My son died March 20th, was born March 27th 1987. This song came out in 1991. It blew me away. His vocals and the imagery of the video are extremely powerful to me. I've never been able to listen to it without it bringing a tear to my eye. Every year, I play this on his birthday. He's riding the whims of his mind, and his soul is free to fly...

It's ethereal. This song has gotten better with time. I remember when it came out and was on MTV. I didn't appreciate the enormity of this song. I certainly do now, decades later.
I agree. At the time, it was just a good song off a good record. In my later years, it hits my soul as if it brings me to this dream state the song is portraying. It's like light rushing into me, making me feel happy and sad at the same time. Happy because of it's beauty and love, but sad that I'm in a physical world devoid of those things. It's like a longing for my true self. Hard to explain. But, this song has aged extremely well.

This song was my wife's favorite if the music I introduced to her, and the last song she listened to before she died of cancer at just 29, leaving our 9 mnds old daughter behind. Somehow I feel the warmth if the song is her watching over us, in a way. I am not religious, but it's like a legacy, or a testament of sorts, she left her love for us in this song.

Before I watch the video, I want to tell you that this song means the world to me. My best friend since childhood loved this song and has since passed away (I even made sure they played it at his funeral). In the early 90s every time this song came on MTV or on the radio, we all had to shut up so he could listen to it, no matter how many times he'd heard it, he loved it every damn time and I just wanted to sing the song. Back in the day we got to annoying each other sometimes, as longtime friends are want to do, but in the years since his passing, I would give anything to go back and be with him listening to it just one more time. I just hope you like it as much as I do.
I couldn't agree with you more, Geoff really shines in eyes of a stranger, my favorite is take hold of the flame live in japan 1984, he sang that whole show with such intensity. Then the 2nd to last song he shows his chops and pulls off take hold without a hitch. That man has a majorly controlled head voice.
Like Troy said, you really should try the full album Operation Mind Crime.. and not just a few songs off it. It's a concept album that tells a full story so while the songs work great alone , they are best with the context of the other songs . Glad you found them .
that ending cello is familiar because it's Brahm's "Lullaby" and that is genius using it layered on the guitar riff by Chris DeGarmo. Silent lucidity is just a timeless song.
When I first heard this song my Grandma was in the hospital. Both sets of my Grandparents were so loving and caring and fun. I first heard the line “someone close to you leaving the game of life” it fit so well (we knew our grandma wouldn’t get well) so this song will forever remind me of her, and in the very best way.
They were my first concert when this came out in 1991 and I will tell you they sound EXACTLY like the records live. Watching Geoff Tate execute all of these challenging vocals was such an inspiring and shaping moment for 13 year old me.
I met him at a bar in downtown Seattle in 2019. He speaks like he sings. Rich baritone voice and you can tell he has a lot to say but doesn’t. It was really cool.

This song has been able to bring me to tears for almost 35 years. Lyrically it is STUNNING. The imagery is utterly mesmerizing and breathtaking. And the music is epically profound and dreamy - it reaches inside you - into that place that very few things can breach and it leaves your emotions spinning in the best and most touching way. When my daughter was born prematurely and was struggling in the NICU, I had a portable cassette player that I placed in her incubator/warmer. This was the first song on that tape and it played on a loop. It was the first song she ever heard after being born.
Your comment gave me chills, as I had a similar experience with my extremely ill premie twins. However, their etheric musical intro to life was postponed for several months while in the NICU, as stimulation of any kind was life threatening. Our interpretation and introduction to life were very similar. Good vibes to you and yours.
When my daughter was born a nurse placed the wards transistor radio in her crib to help her sleep as I couldn't be with her 24/7, it actually worked well. It was 1992 & Madonna's song, "This Used to be my Playground" was played repeatedly as it was her newest release @ the time. Oh the memories, I have just the one child so my memories are very vivid.
I don't think too many people would consider Queensryche metal by today's standards. More like prog rock. Maybe Nevermore/Enslaved/Death or any other band that combines amazing musicianship with extremity.
I lost my dad suddenly 15 years ago. Some of my favorite memories of him involve listening to Queenryche. This song stirs up a lot of emotions for me. My interpretation of it is based around my dad's death. He was in my dreams a lot for many years and it always made me feel like he was watching over me. Geoff's daughter had a dream that her dad died. He wrote this song for her to teach her how to control her dreams, but not only her nighttime dreams but also her lifetime dreams.
Truly some of the most beautiful songs have been written by musicians for their children. You just can't compete with that kind of sincerity and tenderness. Unlike romantic love, it's selfless.

The album Empire is one of the best produced recordings of all time. It's amazing what they (and the producer) did. It was more than 30 years ago and you can virtually walk through the sound, hear everything clearly, everybody has their own space of sound. The vocals are out of this world. Relistening the album just now, please do "Anybody listening?" from the same album, amazing song and vocals! Another vocal masterpiece is "Someone else?" from the "Promised land" album.
I second Anybody Listening.... That song creates a lot of space for Geoff's vocals to breathe, and is another "anti-metal" song for what was considered a metal band.
Empire is one of the few albums that I will listen through from start to finish with most of the songs as a favorite. Definitely listen to Anybody Listening and Empire. Also, another rainy night of course...
I'll second th esecond for _"Anybody Listening."_ Also, just a thought, but is anything they did not a vocal masterpiece? Even the songs I didn't really _like_ left an impression because of the lyrics and that damn *impeccable* voice. Unique + impeccable are literally near _unique_ and happen maybe once or twice a decade. From Rock, to R&B to Broadway to Opera, he literally could have sang any style he wanted to.

Back in the 80's Queensryche got a lot of shit for "not being metal enough". I was like "not all metal needs to sound like bones and chunks of steel tossed in an industrial grinder".

So many "fans" hated Load from Metallica for that reason, and I was like, this is very skillfully produced metal that's able to appeal to a much larger audience and is more easily digestible, doesn't make it "bad" metal, just makes it more mature.

Yes!! Especially prog metal. Amazing virtuoso musicianship, complex songwriting and intricate melodies. *Dream Theater* are the OG’s - but Queensrÿche and Fates Warning came around the same time, and helped establish the genre into the deep amazing rabbit hole it is today 🕳

I'm finally getting around to comment on this video. This is probably my favorite song of all time. The orchestral arrangement builds so wonderfully in this song and between the acoustic guitar and the percussive drive of the drums, Geoff's emotional vocals kills me every time! It's like the Moody Blues, Nights in white satin, the orchestra drives the song to a magical new dimension. Perfection....just, perfection! Bravo Geoff and Elizabeth🥰

I like this song as well, and reminds me of Comfortably Numb, but a bit more positive. I hadn't seen the video before, and interpreted it the same way. But I guess it also makes sense from the perspecitive of watching your kid sleeping & dreaming.Then again, that would make the 'take away the pain' from someone leaving the game of life a bit dark. Or that could be another interpretation and it's about watching over a loved one, who's in pain, but now asleep. One of my favorite songs to play as I'm going to sleep anway.

I came to find this. I've been venturing into lucid dreaming and astral project and other meditative states and it's amazing. I'm a yoga instructor as well so it's been a passion of mine recently.
@@ThomasTallant children are all very open to the astral realm and we get conditioned out of it as we get into society. But to step away from society and into meditation we can find it again. Look up Collective Evolution. They speak to that kinda stuff often.
I love the way he doesn't say "in silent lucidity" at the end. He lets the listener hear the words in their head instead of their ears. It makes it more powerful.
This has been my favorite song my whole life. It's mine and my dad's song. He had an accident in 1987 he broke his back. He spent a lot of time in the hospital and had 7 major back surgerys and was paralyzed for 2 years. There were scary times. He always told me " When you get upset or scared just listen." He was my best friend. I lost him in 2002. He comes to me in my dreams.
Sorry you lost your dad. My dad broke his back in 87 to. He was carrying a casket backwards up some stairs. He also had several surgeries and was paralysed for a few years. He is still alive and now has a neurological disease called arachnoiditis and has tremendous amount of pain. I can at least relate to you at some level. Also, this is one of my favorite songs.

I have sung this to my daughter every night since I found out I was pregnant with her. I swear she recognized it when she was born. It is an emotional song for lots of people. For me, it was a big part of my childhood with my dad, who is no longer with me. So by singing it to my daughter, I feel like I'm connecting her to him. Watching your reaction made me teary; I adore this song and this band. So glad you liked it :)

Operation: Mindcrime is arguably the greatest prog album ever. It embodies Queensryche and virtually every song is a masterpiece. It tells a coherent, heartbreaking story from start to finish. Ironically, it's still relevant... all these years later.
They were something special in their day for sure. I can still smell the arenas, still feel my long hair hanging over my shoulders... Hearing the onstage musicianship of this great band in those great times was thee pinnacle of happiness in my life.

This album came out right after my older daughter was born. She wasn't a sleeper! I had tried so many lullabies and nothing worked. Then one day, I started singing this song to her. After a few minutes, she was fast asleep! This became her tried and true lullaby. Even when she was in her early teens, when she was sick and had trouble getting to sleep, she'd ask me to sing her song to her. Recently, she told me she might still fall asleep to it. lol! She's 31, now.
Give the full Operation: Mindcrime album a listen, especially for songs like "Suite Sister Mary" and "Eyes of a Stranger" - Geoff's vocals are particularly outstanding on those 🙂

Thank you for always being so authentic and being able to express what you are trying to say with just the right words. You are truly amazing. My interpretation of this song has changed slightly over the years however I always end up back in my childhood experiencing some of the nightmares I had to live in my real life. My grandparents were my saviors and because of them, I survived. Unfortunately, they both passed within 6 months of each other when I was 18. As I grew older I always considered this as a reminder of them telling me to keep going. We are here, watching over you. Just the other day I received tickets to go see Geoff Tate (No longer with Queensryche) perform in October 2021, at a local venue. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to see/hear him perform.
This entire band is so incredibly intuitive in how they present not just the songs they create but true emotion through almost if I will a journey through thought and experience
This song really catches that feeling when you look at your sleeping child and get that rush of love that erases your frustrations at their behavior through the day.
Watching cartoons and chilling with my one year old grandson, eating "Nilla Wafers" in the afternoon after we went digging for worms in the backyard and fixing the chicken coop and gathering eggs. Good day.
Being that this song is so personal to me, my husband practiced it for months , without me knowing, and sang it on my birthday as a surprise, at karaoke that we go to every week. I cried like a baby.

The concert album _Operation: LIVEcrime_ adds a tremendous force multiplier / energy to the _Operation: Mindcrime_ material. Great becomes stellar. Possibly the greatest live performance ever captured in Prog Rock: Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo, and Scott Rockenfield in-particular are at the top of their respective games.
I got the Operation Mindcrime album when it came out. I listed to it end to end twice in a row I was so blown away by it. I don’t remember doing that with any other album.

My dad died when I was an infant. When I was young 3-6 I had dreams of being with my dad and exploring with him. Later when. I was 16 or so I found a tape he had that had this song on it. Kinda felt like he was there with me. Still kinda feels that way when I listen to it. Amazing song.

Yeah, this is much more palatable and the vocals are beautiful but I really had trouble with Empire after hearing OPM. It is a masterpiece almost all the way through. It has standouts in the same way that Dance of Eternity is a step above anything else Dream Theater did on Scenes From a Memory. It’s above perfect. Learning to Live is a good contender with the weird alternating 15/8 opening. That one has singing too! I would never choose this song for any reason except the vocal performance here has a lot of range and it’s spectacular. Not keen on it otherwise.

In 1992, I nearly lost my child, he died and was brought back 6 times over 3 months aged 5. He is now 33, has a profound learning disability as a consequence. This song alone gave me strength and got me through that time. It is and remains his favourite song to this day. I will be eternally grateful to GT and Queensryche for connecting with us in such a profound and unexpected way.

I used to play this for my daughter when she was a baby to help put her to sleep. I would walk around with her while it played. In February of 2020 we were lucky enough to see Queensryche live and hear the song together again while singing our hearts out along with them. When she was 18, she asked that her first tattoo be matching tattoos, which we did Silent Lucidity. She is 25 now. Every time I hear this song, I tear up. It has so many great memories. It gave so much more to us than just music.

AJ Reynolds, I have to beg to differ. There is only 1, that can't be truly touched. Even as he got older, his voice got even better! Steve Perry(Ex-lead singer for Journey) is a rock God, with his vocal's. Geoff, as well as countless other vocalist's have tried to match the king of vocal's, as they all fell short. Don't get me wrong, Geoff has some killer vocal's, as well. But, Steve is in a whole other realm of his own! If I am not mistaken, the style of Geoff's vocal's, was inspired by Steve's vocal's, how he started out with his strong ability to get the word's out perfectly, then changing to that raspy voice, that he transferred to, after his surgery, that he was still able to get the clarity, but he was able to hit the right note's, with that rasp integrated into it, toward's the end, that made it even more unique. Like I said though, don't get me wrong, Geoff has his own level, as well. But, like I was sayin, Steve has such a unique voice, that has never been rivalled before. Arnel Pineda(The lead singer from the Philippines, who took over for Steve, in Journey.), came close, but still couldn't fit in Steve's shoe's...

My son died March 20th, was born March 27th 1987. This song came out in 1991. It blew me away. His vocals and the imagery of the video are extremely powerful to me. I've never been able to listen to it without it bringing a tear to my eye.

It's ethereal. This song has gotten better with time. I remember when it came out and was on MTV. I didn't appreciate the enormity of this song. I certainly do now, decades later.
I agree. At the time, it was just a good song off a good record. In my later years, it hits my soul as if it brings me to this dream state the song is portraying. It's like light rushing into me, making me feel happy and sad at the same time. Happy because of it's beauty and love, but sad that I'm in a physical world devoid of those things. It's like a longing for my true self. Hard to explain. But, this song has aged extremely well.

This song was my wife's favorite if the music I introduced to her, and the last song she listened to before she died of cancer at just 29, leaving our 9 mnds old daughter behind. Somehow I feel the warmth if the song is her watching over us, in a way. I am not religious, but it's like a legacy, or a testament of sorts, she left her love for us in this song.

Before I watch the video, I want to tell you that this song means the world to me. My best friend since childhood loved this song and has since passed away (I even made sure they played it at his funeral). In the early 90s every time this song came on MTV or on the radio, we all had to shut up so he could listen to it, no matter how many times he'd heard it, he loved it every damn time and I just wanted to sing the song. Back in the day we got to annoying each other sometimes, as longtime friends are want to do, but in the years since his passing, I would give anything to go back and be with him listening to it just one more time.

When I first heard this song my Grandma was in the hospital. Both sets of my Grandparents were so loving and caring and fun. I first heard the line “someone close to you leaving the game of life” it fit so well (we knew our grandma wouldn’t get well) so this song will forever remind me of her, and in the very best way.

They were my first concert when this came out in 1991 and I will tell you they sound EXACTLY like the records live. Watching Geoff Tate execute all of these challenging vocals was such an inspiring and shaping moment for 13 year old me.
I met him at a bar in downtown Seattle in 2019. He speaks like he sings. Rich baritone voice and you can tell he has a lot to say but doesn’t. It was really cool.

This song has been able to bring me to tears for almost 35 years. Lyrically it is STUNNING. The imagery is utterly mesmerizing and breathtaking. And the music is epically profound and dreamy - it reaches inside you - into that place that very few things can breach and it leaves your emotions spinning in the best and most touching way. It’s an entire journey - a banquet of sound.
So happy to see you *feel* this one too.
Also the dialogue that you hear overlapping in that climactic section - they are saying (as far as I can tell) something like…
“I can't do this… visualize your dream and record it in the present tense - put it into a permanent form and if you persist in your” (or maybe he says all) “efforts, you can achieve dream control - dream control, dream control…”

When my daughter was born prematurely and was struggling in the NICU, I had a portable cassette player that I placed in her incubator/warmer. This was the first song on that tape and it played on a loop. It was the first song she ever heard after being born.
Your comment gave me chills, as I had a similar experience with my extremely ill premie twins. However, their etheric musical intro to life was postponed for several months while in the NICU, as stimulation of any kind was life threatening. Our interpretation and introduction to life were very similar. Good vibes to you and yours.
When my daughter was born a nurse placed the wards transistor radio in her crib to help her sleep as I couldn't be with her 24/7, it actually worked well.
It was 1992 & Madonna's song, "This Used to be my Playground" was played repeatedly as it was her newest release @ the time. Oh the memories, I have just the one child so my memories are very vivid.

Some of the best voices of all time came from Metal no doubt. Hard Rock as well.

I don't think too many people would consider Queensryche metal by today's standards. More like prog rock. Maybe Nevermore/Enslaved/Death or any other band that combines amazing musicianship with extremity.
I lost my dad suddenly 15 years ago. Some of my favorite memories of him involve listening to Queenryche. This song stirs up a lot of emotions for me. My interpretation of it is based around my dad's death. He was in my dreams a lot for many years and it always made me feel like he was watching over me. I feel connected to him and his memory everytime I listen to this song.
Lost my dad when I was 40 and it was still very hard. I can’t imagine losing him when I was young. My condolences.

Truly some of the most beautiful songs have been written by musicians for their children. You just can't compete with that kind of sincerity and tenderness. Unlike romantic love, it's selfless.
Love this song. Had a friend who died in college and it was played at his funeral...seeing his wife and kids get so emotional while it played will always be connected to this song for me. His last message to his kids.

The album Empire is one of the best produced recordings of all time. It's amazing what they (and the producer) did. It was more than 30 years ago and you can virtually walk through the sound, hear everything clearly, everybody has their own space of sound. The vocals are out of this world. Relistening the album just now, please do "Anybody listening?" from the same album, amazing song and vocals! Another vocal masterpiece is "Someone else?" from the "Promised land" album.

I second Anybody Listening.... That song creates a lot of space for Geoff's vocals to breathe, and is another "anti-metal" song for what was considered a metal band.

Empire is one of the few albums that I will listen through from start to finish with most of the songs as a favorite. Definitely listen to Anybody Listening and Empire. Also, another rainy night of course...
I'll second th esecond for _"Anybody Listening."_ Also, just a thought, but is anything they did not a vocal masterpiece? Even the songs I didn't really _like_ left an impression because of the lyrics and that damn *impeccable* voice. Unique + impeccable are literally near _unique_ and happen maybe once or twice a decade. From Rock, to R&B to Broadway to Opera, he literally could have sang any style he wanted to.

"Another Rainy Night" is another lyrically great Queensryche example among the many, and taken from the same album as "Silent Lucidity".
That is an excellent choice.
Back in the 80's Queensryche got a lot of shit for "not being metal enough". I was like "not all metal needs to sound like bones and chunks of steel tossed in an industrial grinder".
Tell them to listen to any of the first 4 albums for metal.
This album was different kind of masterpiece. Like all of their work before.

Thank you! Hated this simplistic idea/take on metal from some of my friends as well. So many "fans" hated Load from Metallica for that reason, and I was like, this is very skillfully produced metal that's able to appeal to a much larger audience and is more easily digestible, doesn't make it "bad" metal, just makes it more mature.

The metal genre has been notoriously dismissed as banging, crashing and screaming over the years when in actuality its one of the most technical forms of music.
Not only that but one the most diverse when it comes sound.
No doubt, and many of it's vocalists could sing about any genre of music.
I had that discussion with my Mother yesterday, she's into Motown and Northern Soul. Which is great music, but my 'thing' is rock, of all types. I was listening to some stuff and she just said can't tell what they're singing, it's just noise. We had to have 'the talk' lol. She just needs to train her ears....

Yes!! Especially prog metal. Amazing virtuoso musicianship, complex songwriting and intricate melodies. *Dream Theater* are the OG’s - but Queensrÿche and Fates Warning came around the same time, and helped establish the genre into the deep amazing rabbit hole it is today 🕳
The distorted voice in the instrumental is saying "Visualize your dream. Record it in the present tense. Put it into a permanent form. If you persist in your efforts, you can achieve dream control."
If you were to look-up the phrase, "how to control your dreams," you will essentially find these instructions. Curiously enough, they work!

I'm finally getting around to comment on this video. This is probably my favorite song of all time. The orchestral arrangement builds so wonderfully in this song and between the acoustic guitar and the percussive drive of the drums, Geoff's emotional vocals kills me every time! It's like the Moody Blues, Nights in white satin, the orchestra drives the song to a magical new dimension. Perfection....just, perfection! Bravo Geoff and Elizabeth🥰

I like this song as well, and reminds me of Comfortably Numb, but a bit more positive. I hadn't seen the video before, and interpreted it the same way. But I guess it also makes sense from the perspecitive of watching your kid sleeping & dreaming.Then again, that would make the 'take away the pain' from someone leaving the game of life a bit dark. Or that could be another interpretation and it's about watching over a loved one, who's in pain, but now asleep.

"Silent Lucidity" was written about a person having a lucid dream. ... DeGarmo got the idea from a book called "Creative Dreaming". "The song is about the ability to realize that you're dreaming, recognize it, and actually participate in the dream, shape it, change it," the guitarist said in a 1990 interview.
I had that ability into my teens, lost it about the time I started dating, oddly enough.
It was written when his child was having trouble with nightmares if I remember correctly.
I came to find this. I've been venturing into lucid dreaming and astral project and other meditative states and it's amazing. I'm a yoga instructor as well so it's been a passion of mine recently.
@@ThomasTallant children are all very open to the astral realm and we get conditioned out of it as we get into society. But to step away from society and into meditation we can find it again. Look up Collective Evolution. They speak to that kinda stuff often.

I love the way he doesn't say "in silent lucidity" at the end. He lets the listener hear the words in their head instead of their ears. It makes it more powerful.
This has been my favorite song my whole life. It's mine and my dad's song. He had an accident in 1987 he broke his back. He spent a lot of time in the hospital and had 7 major back surgerys and was paralyzed for 2 years. There were scary times. He always told me " When you get upset or scared just listen." He was my best friend. I lost him in 2002. He comes to me in my dreams.

Sorry you lost your dad. My dad broke his back in 87 to. He was carrying a casket backwards up some stairs. He also had several surgeries and was paralysed for a few years. He is still alive and now has a neurological disease called arachnoiditis and has tremendous amount of pain. I can at least relate to you at some level. Also, this is one of my favorite songs.

I have sung this to my daughter every night since I found out I was pregnant with her. I swear she recognized it when she was born. It is an emotional song for lots of people. For me, it was a big part of my childhood with my dad, who is no longer with me. So by singing it to my daughter, I feel like I'm connecting her to him. Watching your reaction made me teary; I adore this song and this band. So glad you liked it :)

Operation: Mindcrime is arguably the greatest prog album ever. It embodies Queensryche and virtually every song is a masterpiece. It tells a coherent, heartbreaking story from start to finish. Ironically, it's still relevant... all these years later.

I have the same relationship with Creed’s Arms Wide Open…..still wrecks me every time I hear it and y son just graduated. This album came out right after my older daughter was born. She wasn't a sleeper! I had tried so many lullabies and nothing worked. Then one day, I started singing this song to her. After a few minutes, she was fast asleep! This became her tried and true lullaby. Even when she was in her early teens, when she was sick and had trouble getting to sleep, she'd ask me to sing her song to her. Recently, she told me she might still fall asleep to it. lol! She's 31, now.
Give the full Operation: Mindcrime album a listen, especially for songs like "Suite Sister Mary" and "Eyes of a Stranger" - Geoff's vocals are particularly outstanding on those 🙂

Oh, Elizabeth...I am crying along watching with you analyzing the vocals, and I have loved this song since I was a teenager. The sincerity in your eyes and the reactions across your face are so touching. I can actually feel them. Thank you for always being so authentic and being able to express what you are trying to say with just the right words. You are truly amazing. My interpretation of this song has changed slightly over the years however I always end up back in my childhood experiencing some of the nightmares I had to live in my real life. My grandparents were my saviors and because of them, I survived. Unfortunately, they both passed within 6 months of each other when I was 18. As I grew older I always considered this as a reminder of them telling me to keep going. We are here, watching over you. Just the other day I received tickets to go see Geoff Tate (No longer with Queensryche) perform in October 2021, at a local venue. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to see/hear him perform.

If you get into anything from Operation: Mindcrime you HAVE to listen to the whole album - it's one big rock opera where one song blends to the next
The concert album _Operation: LIVEcrime_ adds a tremendous force multiplier / energy to the _Operation: Mindcrime_ material. Great becomes stellar. Possibly the greatest live performance ever captured in Prog Rock: Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo, and Scott Rockenfield in-particular are at the top of their respective games.
Both these statements are spot on. Epic album, amazing dramatization.
Personally, I think it's the best concept album ever made. I think it even beats Pink Floyd's The Wall.
I got the Operation Mindcrime album when it came out. I listed to it end to end twice in a row I was so blown away by it. I don’t remember doing that with any other album.
