My CHEAP Terminator Cobra Makes HOW MUCH Horsepower?!

- I bought a 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra 10th Anniversary aka Terminator Cobra. It was the cheapest one in North America that was running, has a clean title, needs nearly nothing, and can be driven and enjoyed as is. In this video, I'm doing a dyno run before I start modifying the car. I bought it with some modifications already installed, such as a smaller pulley, an intake, full exhaust, and a tune. After this, I'll be installing more maintenance and performance parts thanks to Summit Racing, Maximum Motorsports, and Borla Exhaust.
Big shout out to Joe D'Sousa at D'Sousa Performance for the use of the Mustang Dyno.

Leaking o2 sensor means unreliable afr readings. Joe is a smart business owner. The moment you told him the o2 sensor was leaking not only did he not want to make a hp prediction he wanted you to dyno your own car just in case the engine went 💣
Yup Joe’s the man
Just an fyi on these cars, they don’t use the front 02 sensors during a WOT pull as it goes into open loop fueling, so no correction is possible….so a leak would make virtually no difference in WHP, but it would definitely make a difference in how the fueling is during other driving conditions when it’s in closed loop. Great numbers btw! I guessed 450whp on a dyno jet before the pull so I was probably a bit low…got a strong car there!!!
These engines are pretty reliable and strong stock… changing plugs can be a issue sometimes, but probably the only major flaw but I think was fixed in 04
It should still have long term fuel trims and if they are positive prior to full throttle, such as if there is an exhaust leak causing a false lean situation, it will mistakenly add a bunch of fuel to that "lean" bank. Those positive trims carry over to full throttle, just not negative ones.
If you have put in a good code reader after fixing it or you may be sorry.
I am honestly extremely excited on where you are going with the Terminator. All the best and good luck for the build and this series.
Thanks a ton!
No way bro you have a R2DA profile picture

Gotta love the whine! For reference on mine 2.80 Upper only was 465rwhp/495rwtq. Add 4# lower and Steiggy IV port at 495rwhp/522rwtq. Both on pump gas and Texas summer heat! Those are my excuses😂 Looking forward to the next steps! Keep Terminating!
This was my dream car in high school in 2004 but I settled for a 1999 mustang GT for $22,000 and only seen a few of these in San Francisco Bay Area back then ! The best are the 10th anniversary and mystic cobra’s.
Going to be a sick build will stay tuned.
😂 me too. I remember reading through 5.0 Mustang and super ford's magazine where they showed a sonic blue 03 while sitting in math class. Told myself one day I would have one. That day has come and gone.
I think I've commented it before but that thing sounds like heaven. Great HP numbers and interesting about the Dark Horses.
It’ll sound even better soon
@greyestfox yes... to me those cars have been some of the best sounding late model muscle cars ever. 👌🏾🏁
Always wanted one of these. Im not a mustang guy but the pure sound of these engine's had me addicted. Subbed and followed to see the progress.
The Straight Pipes video review brought me here!😁
From one Canadian to another; Great video there bud !!
🫡🇨🇦
Can wait to see this build. Had this car on my wall as a kid growing up and haven't had the opportunity to pick one up yet. Keep up the amazing videos Jakub and as always thank you for the entertainment. Have a great weekend!
Thanks so much
Exciting build. Wicked car. Looking forward to this whole series
You drag race an auto you auto cross/road course a manual. I’ve had an 03 and an 04 Cobra and loved them. Look forward to watching the progress on your Termi
Late to the video but loving this Cobra mate! Can’t wait to see this progress.
Just filmed the mods yesterday 😈
You are truly living the dream man. The all V8 garage is awesome!
Never thought I’d have any of this
Been a StraightPipes subscriber for years and I'm a sucker for a build series!!!
Right on
Love the series! Always wanted a used mustang, but nervous for what id be getting into. This is a nice preview into what could be
Dude, you live the best life. So excited for the wrenching to begin. Thanks for sharing.
I am very grateful for what I have 🙏
Hurry with moar! 😂 I’m excited for this. I graduated in 03 and was in love with the Saleen and didn’t appreciate the cobra enough at the time for what it was.
New video today
From a non Canadian to one great job and nice work and car .😅
Thanks!
Great video. I am staying tuned!!!!
Looking forward to the build Jakub 🔥🔥
2 new videos already out
So excited to see this series play out!
I loved these when they came out. I was an old fox body guy. (Owned 2 93’s). Also had a 2000 lightning, which is the same supercharger here. Man I missed that whine. I’m excited to see where you go with this. Just subscribed!
Awesome. Follow along as there’s plenty of videos already out on what I’ve done to it

Great numbers, man! Cant wait to see what it makes with the new mods!
It already feels faster with the first mods I just filmed this week
If I were looking for a mustang it would be one of these terminator cobras! The coolest mustang out there
Dude can't wait to see the next video, car is gonna be a beast when it's done for sure
Just a “small” build, excited to see where the build goes such a iconic car
Welcome to terminator ownership! I loved mine back when I had it!
I predict a new exhaust, full new MM rear suspension bushings and probably front caster/camber plates. New JLT ram, intake. SVE chrome style oem cobra rims. I hope your are replacing all the pulleys as the stock ones are known to go pew pew. (billet flow dual bearing are the best, make sure to get the snub idler, they make a 4 pulley kit )
also most importantly join SVTP, the terminator subforum on svtp has the best knowledge you will find on these cars.
Hahah great predictions, classic formula
@@itsreallyjakub the formula has definitely been refined over the last 20 years haha if you haven’t heard of it “Iron Fist, Lead Foot: John Coletti and Ford's Terminator” is an excellent read on how the car came to production.
Oh man! You're killing me here! I just found these videos and there isn't another one posted with the parts you just showed! I'm dying over here! I need my fix! NEW VIDEO! NEW VIDEO! NEW VIDEO! LOL

Damn bro, RUclips trying to hold me down
It sucks not being able to work and make and then spend that money... I can't afford to enjoy my crippled life, only suffer from it as I watch others take Everything for Granted that I can't do. After the crash 3 years ago, I lost the only thing I could do for work, Drive a car! All because a stupid person in the truck was on her phone and slammed into me at over 60mph! I lost my car, a 2011 crown vic that I had wanted for many years before I was able to get a deal on one.... a car I loved and a job I loved all taken from me. Now I spend my days suffering from pain and the depression caused by not being able to do the one thing I loved do more then anything, DRIVING! It hurts too much now, so even if I had the money, I'd still not be happy because unless I can buy a new spine, I'll never be able to go back to my old life of being able to enjoy driving.... I can't even get pain meds from a doctor so I can try playing a racing sim without pain distracting me, I just sit in my wheelchair and suffer. I don't get out unless I'm going to be lied to by a doctor telling me all the reason why I have to suffer.... I can't keep living just to suffer, I need a reason to keep fighting the pain... and I just can't see anything but more suffering in my future. (If I wasn't broken, I might have had a chance at living my dream of becoming a racing driver, but no one will work with someone that can hardly walk and hurts too much to be useful)
Good stuff Jakub, can't wait to see how this turns out. Love that whine!
Thanks 👍
Keep the Crank HP out of equation, no one uses those #'s, killer car. Makes me miss mine even more when i watch these videos.
I agree with you, just trying to explain to non-enthusiasts who might not understand wheel vs crank
My 04 is pretty comparable with a 2.8 upper and stock lower. Made 473/474rw on a dynojet so your numbers make sense.
I’d be weary of doing it again until you have a way to check AFR.
Nice numbers and love the car.
No more pulls until it’s getting dyno tuned with a wideband and proper logging. We have no idea if it’s tuned within an inch of its life so I’m totally fine not making much more power than this on a safe tune
Nice results and I bet you loved doing the dyno, awesome and it is good to see you are making conservative changes to the car, nothing excessive lol. Good man.
Honestly kinda scary doing the dyno. Seeing the speedo go that high and not be moving is a very strange experience lol. I’d rather actually drive that fast 😂
@@itsreallyjakub I have been standing beside a few diesels that ran away and that sounds is visceral yet compelling, doing it intentionally just feels wrong but a great way to know more about your car. I hope you are going to focus on breaks and suspension to help reduce hop or other issues. This build is going to be epic
Can't wait for your new exhaust. You need to get some wider tires in the back!
Yup that’s coming too with new wheels
It makes more power and is much lighter than a darkhorse easy win. That cobra will run 11s in 1/4 as it sits.
@@jmak03cobra66 not stock, here at sea level they struggle to to run high 12s with the early IRS
Great car. I'm so happy you got one. Mine will be ready soon. And it's black as well
Congrats!!

Borla ftw on these cars
@@itsreallyjakub 100%
I'm pumped! This is my highschool dreamc ar too! lol Had a 99' GT in a Automatic highschool. I might pick one of these cobras up myself.
You really need an auxiliary idler pulley for the smaller 2.9" supercharger pulley. If you go even smaller, you will have belt slippage for sure. Might as well change out all the cheap plastic idlers while you're at it, lots of guys have had them explode on them under throttle. It's quite common on the Termi. Lethal Performance sells the Metco kit for around $580 for the double bearings' ones. Worth it.
Dyno guy looks very excited 😁
Congrats on the best of the Fox-ish Mustangs... I think 444 at the wheels...maybe more! Not far off... Are you going to race school, and track day and drag the SVT?
Man im stoked to see this build,i might be enticed to buy one maybe next year for weekend car and finally get back into the stangs if all goes well around here. My fav is the redfire color and black but i wont mind chrome yellow or white. I always wanted that car, yours sound healthy too. You can get 600 easy on that thing with a tune, exhaust, injectors, fuel pump and swap the blower. Im sure you got a new clutch in there to install too. Borla stingers or attacks im wondering, lol
Definitely get one I love it. Stay tuned for which exhaust 😈 I think I’ll install the exhaust first in the next video
I was waiting on those "SVE" boxes. Ready to see what's in them.
😈
When you pulled out a whole amazon warehouse while saying that you aren't going to have a big build made me roll with laughter 🤣🤣
She’s gonna turn out great 😫
I vote for a (2000)Cobra R body kit, unless you’re going for stock. I love seeing those kits in other colors besides red. Cheers
I appreciate the freedom conversions on the temps.
🫡🇺🇸
You should check your boost numbers and also measure your lower pulley before you put on a smaller upper pulley. There is a limit to the Eaton before you just start spinning it too fast and making too much heat. Also to see if your blower is ported, check for a stamp with "stiegemeier" on the front, that was a popular company to port the Eatons or if you can also take off the inlet tube and look into the blower inlet for signs of porting.
Appears to be 12psi by the gauge. Lower pulley stock. Not ported
Great numbers ! Cobras dont really pick up that much more power because the factory supercharger becomes a big heat pump.I would do a 2.7 upper, Intercooler Tank, and long tube headers then leave it alone
Nice power brother
More coming
@itsreallyjakub I feel you brother I have a Ats-v and it's getting a stage 2 tune coming soon
Love the build mustangs are awesome 🐍
bah you are so lucky to find that beast for the price you paid!
Unfortunately, even dynos of the same brand will read different.
In my area there is an older Mustang dyno that reads higher than a Dynocom and Dynojet on the same setup in similar weather.
There is also a newer Mustang dyno around here but that one does read lower than the Dynojet. The Dynojet numbers I've seen were the most consistent from Dynojet to Dynojet. It read the 2nd lowest of the 3 mentioned here.
Would be neat if you could dyno all your cars on this dyno on the same day.
Excuse 4 sun was in your eyes? Awesome car man
Good call
God I should not have sold my Black whipple 04!
Correct
Used to have a stage 2 roush. Nice car
This is still my dream car yet I ended up getting a 16 performance package 5.0
Beautifl !! Excited for you !!! 🐍
Pretty good numbers with 2.93 upper . Did u happen to check if the lower is stock they usually make more tq than HP with a lower pulley . Just like yours . I have 2.76 upper only and Dyno right at 500rwhp and 495 tq . Your not far off
Lower looks stock
Love to see you track that z06
Track videos usually do really poorly for content
i see the modding rabbit hole has claimed you 😂
I’ve been like this since my first car
From
A past owner of 03 cobras if you reseal the diff cover it will leak again not right away but it will leak again I would recommend getting the ford racing diff cover
Will the ford racing cover leak too? Lol
No, the problem is that the stock diff cover is super weak they break on hard launches, and if they don’t break the mating surface gets distorted and causes the leaks.. i resealed my stock cover twice and then once by dealer and after awhile they all started leaking until I talked to shaun from aed tuning he explained to me why it’s going to keep leaking and to get the ford racing cover and when i did it stopped leaking. Just my experience
@@SergioGomez-to1jl awesome thank you
When i bought my car back in 07 it had that size upper pulley. If i remember correctly its the stock sized lightning pulley. Way back in the day that was popular to do
Ah that’s cool
Borla exhausts are awesome, have one on my car.
Right on!
@@itsreallyjakubBorla Stingers! Loved them on my old cobra.

Man, I'm excited for you! Sweet! So...if you had to choose between this Cobra and the Raptor, which would you choose at this moment in time?
Don’t make me choose between my sons
If you fixed that o2 sensor even on a Mustang dyno with those mods you should make 470+ whp maybe 485 with lower humidity
I’ll be installing new o2 sensors when I do the full exhaust, and welding on an extra bung for a wideband
Terminators rule
30°c is 86f cx1.8+32=f oh and I don’t watch boring dyno vids usually but you made this one interesting
Thanks very much
Show up to the dyno with a broken O2 sensor? My old tuner would have kindly (not so kindly) asked me to back off the dyno, take the car home and fix the O2 before bringing it back.
Only a baseline run and I filled the crack with exhaust putty that seems to have held
Now you need a Cobra R
Y’all remember the Blades Cobra videos?
I’m hoping MM coil overs are part of the build because I want your opinion of them on the street before I buy the kit 😂
Stay tuned lol
Mm coilover are great with the stock bilstein it rides nice not harsh like other coilover. I have them in the front better than HR springs .
Love but blue oval and bow tie builds you got working simultaneously. I like the Vette more but this is sick
The vette is an animal. This will be a fun cruiser with my family to car shows
What power figures are you trying to get?
I honestly don’t care. But I think I’ll land around 475
Please clean the wheel wells while still in monster truck stance. Nothing takes away from a good detail like dirty wheel wells. Based on Ben’s feedback and the dyno pulls it looks like you got a good one!
All of the detailing will happen at once. Is killing me inside not washing or vacuuming this thing so the before/after is more epic 🤣
Cool project
Healthy motor ... get those exhaust leaks fixed and focus on beefing up that IRS for track use ...

I forget let me check the video again
Camaro dyno or something?
Curious to know..which watch is that?
Looks like the boost is falling off a little in the high rpm according to the stock boost gauge, maybe belt slip.
I thought that was fairly normal on these. 4th is a long pull
