    I think Kane not staying high and not being able to make any runs is a huge problem that hasn't been address by Southgate and it could be theory undoing in this game.

      @@jamess3408 Agreed in this system we don’t need the Striker dropping Deep, Toney or Watkins would be a better Option with maybe Kane and Gordan as a plan B in a 4-3-3 Holding for Kane to drop Deep and playing Gordan or Saka in behind.

      Yes , agreed , but he will most likely put his loyalty to Kane above common sense and good tactics. He’s just not capable of making such a brave decision.

      I think Kane’s bad performances has little to do with him and much more to do with Southgate. Are we forgetting how good Kane is. I do agree he should not be dropping that deep but Southgate is the manager he should be telling Kane to push up higher. I also agree that Kane doesn’t have the ability to make runs inbehind as well as he used to due to his age. But Kane is still a world class player, we need to involve his style more into our system. Having 2 wingbacks wich are on the wrong foot is ridicules in my opinion when u have such a good finisher like Kane. As it limits the amount of quality crosses we produce for Kane. So if I was Southgate I’d change the wingbacks to Lwb - Saka and rwb - Trent. And then Palmer for foden and then keep Kane in the team,

      I completely agree with what you’re saying and trust me, there have been so many iterations of this team with Mainoo in, just felt like Southgate wouldn’t leave Bellingham out regardless. • @RobertHeathfield
    @RobertHeathfield 13 дней назад +1

    Very good argument well articulated. Of course you can't plan for those moments when Walker slips or if the Dutch play out of their skins. I like your confidence in John Stones, and I like the idea of playing Luke Shaw from the start rather than bringing him on; better to change a fitness risky player for a fit one than to bring on a fitness risky player. Luke Shaw needs more match fitness so the first half an hour in this game is better preparation for the final than giving him 45 minutes if the pressure is off. However news is out that Trippier is going to start so whatever system Gareth starts with he obviously knows something that the rest of us don't. The danger of playing Palmer with Trippier at left back is that he gets isolated and the team get lop-sided again. I think it is so important to have threat from both wings, and when you match up player for player because England are superior (on paper) you can risk playing a more open formation. Can't see Gareth doing this, but fair play to him if he does the job. It would be nice if we can win in the 90 minutes with no suspensions and no injuries too, but I guess I am asking for too much. Maybe it's a plan that he wants the players to get as much penalty experience as they can ;-)

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  13 дней назад

      Thank you! You’re absolutely right, there’s an element to this that just can’t be planned for, what that will be in this game we shall see but all we can do is that hope Gareth and the boys all put in a good performance to be proud of.
      The Trippier news is unfortunate and without Shaw as that left sided cover, the left side will fall down a bit so I’d say Gordon should be there instead of Palmer.
      As I say hopefully the boys pull it though in 90 but I have a feeling it’s not going to be as plain sailing as we all would like.
      Thank you for your kind words and for watching my friend!

    I like some of your ideas in principle, the 3-2-4-1 shape in attack, but a few issues. I think the left side is still a problem for you. Cole Palmer doesnt play on the left and wants to receive the ball to feet and come into the middle. If Shaw isnt being used to provide width your back to the same issues as Southgates original set ups woth Foden there.
    For all that Saka does well he doesnt actually make a lot of runs in behind from higher up the pitch (when Foden put that ball over the top to him for the straight run was relatively uncommon because he typically hugs the touchline). He's not right footed and his right foot crosses are actually not very good reliably, he can be more effective if driving along the byline and cutting it back. He really wants the ball much higher up where he can set up the defender to then come inside onto his left to shoot as he did for his last goal, which was classic Saka, or outside but driving into the box. This requires controlled possession.
    I think Billingham is an 8 and should never have been pushed forward for England. It was a totally different situation at Real Madrid last year, but will be really interesting what Ancelotti does this season with Mbappe and Endric (sp?) coming in not to mention the Turkish kids progress. There's a lot more attacking tallent there now and with Kroos going and Modric playing fewer minutes there's less midfiled options.
    At this point i think Mainoo is pretty undropable. He just wants the ball all the time and moves constantly to offer for it. The combination between him and Foden looks really promising, two players who want the ball all the time and want options and will take it and give it into tight spaces.
    Having said Bellingham is an 8 I'd actually look at putting him through the middle at this point. Kane has looked unfit all tournament. I'd drop him for Gordon and put Bellingham through the centre in a 4-2-3-1 (Foden in the 10, Shaw for Trippier at LB). In possession Mainoo pushing forward as a second 10 basically, then depending on situation Shaw/Stones/Walker (although dont really want to see Walker in advanced positions at this point, hes been really poor in possesion this tournament, but i still cant bring myself to play TAA there) supporting either in the middle (stones) or on the flanks.
    My more wildcard option would be 3-4-2-1/3-2-4-1. Gordon for Trippier, Wharton for Kane. Bellingham through the middle, Mainoo and Foden behind, Wharton alongside Rice, Gordon LM, Saka RM. Back 3 of Guehi, Stones, Walker/Konsa. A presence up top, pace and threat out wide, ability to play out from the back, box midfield options and ability to build and retain possession but also create. Loads of pressing high up, Rice can help defensively in the middle if defender needs to cover the flank whilst WBs get back (not expecting any of back three to advance really, They're more or less just there to defend) Mainoo can drop into midfield to help as well.
    In reality if Southgate retains this formation Shaw would come in for Trippier, Kane starts and Mainoo stays alongside Rice. And we have the same problems of no one to get on the end of any final ball.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  13 дней назад

      I really like your break down of this and agree with what you’ve raised. Regarding Mainoo, I agree, when creating this I’ve tried to align with players who I believe Southgate considers undroppable and tried to create a formation and setup around that, those players are Kane, Foden, Kane, Saka, Bellingham. Those non negotiables make it difficult to strike the correct balance that both you and I are looking for.
      Love your ideas and thought process and hopefully England improve.
      Thanks for watching mate!

    I think it’s absolutely crazy that people are so desperately wanting Kane out. Before this tournament on paper he is 1 of the BEST STRIKERS IN EUROPE. You need star players like him TO WIN TOURNAMENTS there is 0 chance we would win with out him, Star players like Kane, Bellingham,Saka are what win games, just look at the Bellingham goal and then kanes ,they wasn’t playing that well but at the end of the day these sort of players will have those MAJICAL MOMMENTS and you need that. I also think that it’s partly the SYSTEM that doesn’t suit Kane’s play style. we need GOOD crosses in the box for Kane, and having 2 WRONG footed players on the wings means he gets LIMITED GOOD CROSES so ofc he’s not gonna be scoring as much.

    Leave Mainoo out simply in order to get Palmer in?
    I don’t think so. And besides which, Palmer is much better utilised as an impact player.
    If you really want Southgate to be brave let’s see him play Kane for 55-60 minutes to soften up the Dutch defence and then swap him out for either Wadkins or Toney.
    Games like these are not ultimately about formation or even players anyway. They’re about attitude and execution. If England go into the game with positive mindset and move the ball more quickly then they’ll win; if they don’t then we’re in for another long game.
    It’s a good thing that there’s only one man picking the team ( and a million disagreeing if we lose 😂 ).

I have to disagree, we have the better players, and Sake and Shaw as wing backs, with Guehi, Stones and Walker as our 3 centre backs, have the pace and experience, and quality to handle Holland. playing with 2 no.10's in a boc midfield, foden playing on the right side in front of Mainoo and alonside Saka will be magic. We just need one of our 10's preferably Foden imo, staying on the centre line when we are without the ball, allow Harry Kane to come deep, he has an unbelievable passing range and lacks the pace Foden has to make a meaningful counter attack

    A lot of things wrong with this video so let's go through it.
    3 vs 4 at the back. Your analysis of England playing a 3 shows, quite categorically, that if a team defends without moving, the opposition will score. This is essentially true of any system. In your example Dumfries has the ball on the Dutch right. But in that case the entire team shifts across - Walker takes Memphis and Stones covers Bergwijn, leaving Guehi free to support Shaw. Very easy. Also, it's kind of basic maths that if you defend with 1 extra man at the back, and few teams will not want at least 1 extra player if the opposition is in the final third, the opponents will have a free man. Like duh! That's as true for a 4-1-2-3/4-2-3-1 as for a 3-4-2-1 What your further analysis leaves out is that England during this tournament have proven to be most vulnerable against teams that play with 2 high wide men and also have the ability to switch the play quickly. Well this is precisely what the Netherlands are particularly good at. The reason for playing a 3 here is to avoid the defensive line getting stretched against this tactic. You can draw it up on paper as much as you like that this is not a problem but practical play during the last few matches proves otherwise.
    Now to your 4-2-3-1. First of all, repeat after me: "Jude is not a 6". I watched him playing in this role at Dortmund and he was completely wasted. All of his best performances came when he moved up into an 8/10 role and it was no accident that people suddenly started recognising his real potential when he was used in a much more offensive role in Madrid. But take that away and this is more or less the 4-1-2-3 I myself have suggested in previous rounds. I prefer Gordon at LW in this structure but that is not the real issue. What really matters is that this was available to England in many previous games where it was more suitable. Gareth didn't even try it when going behind, where it makes even more sense. Let's just be honest here and understand that this set-up is just too risky for the current management.
    My suggestion for a team against the Netherlands is a much more radical attempt to get the most out of this extremely strong and deep England squad. First of all I recognise the points made about having key players on at the end, particularly penalty takers. So my starting 10 outfielders are:-
    watkins
    gordon-foden
    shaw-rice-mainoo-TAA
    guehi-stone-walker
    Orders go to Watkins and Foden that they will be subbed off after 55-60 mins so they should play as close to 100% as they can. Without Jude on the pitch, Foden gets a bit of extra freedom. Gordon should look for runs in behind when PF or Trent get on the ball and also for 1v1s when the play comes down the left. The system is solid but still carries some threat.
    After 55-60mins, Kane and Jude come on for Ollie and Phil. Shaw will surely need to come off - if England are ahead at that time, on comes Trippier (or Gomez but I agree that is unlikely now) and Saka replaces Gordon; if not then Saka is the man for the WB spot and Palmer can come on for Mainoo. If still needing a goal late on, Toney coming for Walker is about as attacking a line-up as England can field without losing shape completely. If defending a lead late on, an easy substitution to close up is to bring on a CB for Trent to help against the threat of Weghorst. Any of these scenarios still leave England well placed if the game does move into Extra Time - if they equalised, Palmer comes on for Mainoo, Trent moves to 6 and Saka to WB (pens: HK, JB, CP, BS, TAA). If we did then Toney comes on for Gordon (if we scored early enough) or we bring a defender for balance (if Walker had to go off) (pens: HK, JB, IT, CP, BS; TAA for #6). It's hardly a tactical masterstroke but I do think it comes close to maximising the potential of the whole squad within the confines of what Gareth has shown to be willing to work with. I humbly suggest that your team neither maximises potential (for this specific game, it's not a bad team in isolation) nor is it within Gareth's risk bounds for a massively important game.

    Drop Kane Do it! Southgate but he just won't! Long as Dutch Defense can see Kane in front he is no threat at all! You need pace in behind only Watkins and Toney can provide that. Arnold should play and Palmer can play killer passes and get England playing forward faster..Saka on the right. 5 3 2:in possession reverting to 3 5 2 when we attack to pin Hollands fullbacks in! Foden must float behind Attack dragging his marker away to create space for Bellingham and Rice. England will be cautious and defensive and look to win turnovers high up or in Hollands half. Come On England Dare to Dream! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Tactics pace right 11 and bravery to pick them off! Van Dijk hates pace so play Watkins he can beat him all day! But Kane starts we know this

    stop saying hakpo, it's not a Dutch name, it's ghanaian so the real tricky is the kp part of the word, it's not a Dutch G.

    Youre asking John Stones to be John Stones AND Mainoo. Hmmm. He loves playing like an mf, but only on his terms rather than than it being his responsibility. Great analysis but can't you undefault the American spelling?
