Aviation minister suspends Dana Air following crash in lagos

  • Following a runway incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos involving Dana Airlines on Tuesday 23MArch. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr Festus Kayamo has suspended Dana Airline until comprehensive audits is conducted.
    A statement signed by the ministrys Permanent Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, on Wednesday, said recent incidents involving Dana Air have raised concerns about the safety and financial viability of the airline’s operations
    The Supervisor said it has come to the Honourable Minister’s attention about the recent incidents involving Dana airline and with the paramount priority being the safety and well-being of airline travelers,
    This audit should encompass all aspects of safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with our aviation regulations.
    recall that Dana Air Flight 0992 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Abuja to Lagos, Nigeria. On 3 June 2012, the aircraft suffered a dual-engine failure and crashed onto buildings, killing all 153 people on board and six on the ground. With a total of 159 deaths, it remains deadliest commercial airliner crash in Nigerian history since the Kano air disaster in 1973.
