I interviewed a retired SS agent for a radio show a few years back. He told me the MAIN purpose of the sunglasses was to disguise the direction the agents eyes were looking -- a fact not mentioned here.

You realize the sunglasses have micro cameras in them that relay all the live footage to other agents in intelligence centers? So they have multiple people looking at the crowds from one set of sunglasses including the agent wearing them. I venture to guess that they're connected to computers that also recognize guns. The computer can pickup the gun similar to facial recognition.

Couple things to add: they go through extensive evasive driving and learn to drive from the passenger seat in case the driver is killed. Also for George walker bush he has/d an extremely fast speed boat up in Kennebunkport that the secret service technically couldn’t keep up with... had something insane like 1500 hp. They also had to learn and be able to swim 5 miles in full gear and trained them by dropping them in the ocean and having them swim back, this was due to George’s fondness of fishing off the rocks up in Maine and you could not climb back up them so the agents might have to hold him in the ocean and swim away from the rocks where it was safe for a boat to be. They used inflatable boats so they couldn’t get too close to the rocks.

I found each point incredibly fascinating. More so, the extreme procedures involving the presidential motorcade.
Regardless of how truthful this maybe, it was still extremely entertaining and interesting.
Many of these secret service agents are dressed like regular people so they will blend in when out in the crowd. It is very intriguing and I loved doing research on Secret Service while in college. Some of this video is true and some is FAKE. There's several dummy cars..not just 2. I was fortunate enough to be able to win tickets to tour the White House back in 1994 or 95(Bill Clinton was President). They used to give out so many free tours twice a year. My family(dad,mom,brother and myself) were standing out in front of the White House when you were still able to stand up next to the black iron fence and secret service asked my parents and several other families if they wanted to take a free tour. We walked through 3 different security scanners. My moms tennis bracelet set one of the scanners off and security totally freaked out. It was scary bc she kept trying to tell them it was due to her tennis bracelet, however they wouldn't let her talk until they themselves found what was triggering the alarm..I was just 9yrs old, so it scared me half to death with how they surrounded her so fast. Now I understand why White House security freaked out like they did...lol They stopped allowing tours after 9/11. It was one hell of a cool experience though!

The original job of the USSS -created following the Civil War-was to protect the U.S. financial system against counterfeiting, and it was not until many years later that protective services were added as job responsibilities.
Even today, protecting our financial system against counterfeiters and computer fraud, cybercrime, mail fraud, and other criminal enterprises affecting the financial stability of the U.S. is one half of its mission, besides the protection details.

It's not this way in the UK - security exist for specific events/ times/ trips etc., but it's not the norm. I know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone. .. 😉 - a high level British cabinet member visiting Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles in the 90s. Very normal guy, (££ doesn't work in UK politics in the same way), intelligent, had advanced degrees, didn't have any airs & graces, remembered where he came from kind of guy. Old school. He chatted with & thanked the guy who was specifically assigned to protect him. The bodyguard said, "I'm here to shoot the bastard who shoots you."
