I read a book called “The Giver” and it was pretty much about a civilization where no one is allowed to have feelings, talk too fast, wear different hair styles, fall in love, etc. If that did happen, you would either be whipped with a stick or killed, in front of the Chief Elder (aka the president). Ever since the time you start school till you turn 12, your whole life would be monitored so that the government can pick your job. There are even speakers placed around the city that can both record and give out messages like “this is a reminder that all female tens must have their hair up until after curfew”. I am honestly starting to compare these North Korean laws to the book
That's the name of that book! I remember the story (We read this in middle school) and it always stood out in my mind. I remember parts of supressing sexual desires as well with pills and how much everything was controlled. Great book.

You can't help but feel terrible for the citizens in that place, literal hell on earth.
We could EASILY end up in the same hell if we let (or worse, enjoy) bad things happen to other people. Nobody just wakes up one day in a totalitarian dystopia - it happens gradually and it starts with sowing hate and division. "Those people don't deserve civil rights."

Kim jun-Un (sorry not sorry for butchering his name) had a brother
His brother was MUCH nicer and was against his father and brother. Obviously his father and brother hated him for this. One day he was at the airport (I believe to take his daughter to Disneyworld) he was assassinated. And the people who assassinated him had no clue they where doing so. They where told they where pranking him.
That man was the original successor but because of his death, Kim jun-Un was next in line. BRO COULDA CHANGED NORTH KOREA FOR THE BETTER.

You forgot one other rule that NK has enforced, and that’s “Mandatory Military Service” where everyone in the country is required to serve the military when they reach the age of 17, with men forced to serve a minimum of 10 years (sometimes even 13 for certain specialized combat units) and women staying at least until they reach the age of 23. Now i added that one because North Koreas mandatory service is by far the longest of any country in the world
i thought you were getting confused with s. korea but then i saw that they must at 17 for 10 years. thats just weird.

The one thing in life is that you cannot control where you are born. The fates can be so harsh and cruel 😞 I had no idea about triplets being lucky so therefore taken away until the age of 4. That's horrific. So much of this video was. Gone for falling asleep, gone for poor posture. Gone for ringing your family. And publicly too. Absolutely horrendous 😔
You also can't control what other people do. Wait, that's what North Korea does
I have degenerative disc disease and can't stand straight. I wonder what would happen to me?
I can relate to that
@nancy living in the capital is by invitation only, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere there! The ppl who do escape, it's mainly to China & Russia 😬😬😬
I can't live with that,I would never and I mean never have children,God forgive me ,but I would damage my own womb, nothing sounds good having children there.
You are also required to have photos of kim jong-un in your house and they can’t be obstructed by any other object. They also have to be facing forward and they are instructed to save the photos before saving their children if a house fire was to occur. It’s completely insane- it’s a complete dystopian nightmare.
For a bit of understanding on why these laws seem so absurd, part of the reason is that absurdity. It is a nation which requires constant suffering in order to exist. If the needs of a person aren't met and they have to struggle to survive, there isn't enough time or resources to successfully push back against the government.
It also is worth noting that one of the main sources of labor in the nation is prison labor. The reason so many people are arrested for absurd things is that North Korea needs to arrest people in order to keep its economy even the slightest bit intact.
Yet somehow, the United States has more prisoners (both quantity AND percentage) than North Korea. If they're so "evil" for exploiting a source of free labor, why does America get a pass?
So 1984

"I blinked for a few seconds too long during a rally. They thought I'd fallen asleep."
This reminds me of an incident in the US. Some boys got arrested for riding scooters on a colorful crosswalk.
Oh nothing rainbow 🌈 is aloud!
Rainbow colors are allowed, I have seen a NK pre school they had clouds and rainbows painted on the wall. Rainbows are aloud, just not the " new " agenda behind it.
But I know what you meant and you're right 😊
Huh? Something like that wouldn't be not allowed here in the United States where anything and everything is allowed.
Buddy youre leaving out context to make us look bad lmao
@@Healer.moebiusbeing gay isnt a "new agenda"
Me: :)
Kim Jong Un: You’re under arrest!
Me: Why?
Kim Jong Un: Because you smiled.
Happy New Year
NO CARS, NO BIKES , NO FREEDOM, NO LIFE 😢
Im not ever inviting my friend along if i ever visit. They make me laugh WAY too much. So that wont help
Good luck trying to visit. You are escorted to private, staged 'tourist attractions', your monitored whereever you are. You have to provide an itinerary (so they can stage it) you're 'strongly advised' on appropriate dress, personal belongings (can be confiscated) and coached on your behavior. 2 of my 'trekking' friends got the lowdown. If they found anything remotely 'subversive', you go to jail.
Yeah bruv
Just don't go from July 8th to July 19th. Simple.
If a group of people decide to take your class on a trip to North Korea, here's a tip. Act as if you're too sick to go. It works wonders.😊 You'll be at home with your family and friends enjoying life.❤

I have read over 10 books on "The Hermit Kingdom". A couple of strange things I learned is, Kimchi is the national dish.
It is fermented in clay pots buried in the ground. People are so hungry they often steal the pots. Risking Death if caught!
Another strange thing is called "Harvesting Night Soil". In the countryside No plumbing exists. Outhouses are used. The
DPRK has precious few fertilizer for their agriculture. In the freezing winter. Frozen human sewage from outhouses is collected
for use as fertilizer. It is a communal chore that everyone must perform.
Nightsoil gathering was normal all over the world - before the 20th century. North Korea seems to range from the 800s to about 1940.
@@meh8982The honey dipper man would do the collections. Met a farmer in NJ who would empty the contents of his septic tank in a particular field, the grass grew there longer and greener than any pasture.
