    ELDs made the roads into race tracks, am I alone in this opinion? I feel like more drivers are running too fast through construction, driving like morons after a traffic backup and just recklessly running to beat a mandated babysitter. My paper logs let me just mope along, no hurry, no worry.

      You forgot also too many drive way too fast in bad weather conditions with the E logs even with all my experience I find myself doing that sometimes it is crazy, I blame the elogs for this reason to take away my instincts it actually makes us drivers less safe and I have noticed more selfish, agitated attitudes since these mindless time clocks took over, Not to mention situations where if you could drive another hour where you could get in front of a snowstorm but instead you have to shut down and then wake up into a blizzard after your break , I have had that situation more than once. That's safety?

    The FMCSA royally screwed up the ELD mandate. They should've had a third party such as UL or the IIHS certify the devices instead of letting manufacturers "self certify" them.
    Now they have to take yet another device out of service because it doesn't meet their standards.
    Shame on the FMCSA...
    And long live loose leaf logs!

      I have run paper for 26 years, love them. I get all the rest I need, 3 million accident free miles. Never have I ever had a log violation, I pride myself on this. The days of running several books are gone, there's no incentive anymore, no one wants to pay for that kind of service anymore but I still enjoy not being babysat by a government babysitter.

      I've had one just up and die on me... it was fun having to convince a whole ass DOT cop that an ELD malfunction was one of the allowable reasons to run paper until I could get to the closest company terminal to have a new one installed

    It's all about money, not safety. They wasn't making money with ELD. Now with paper logs mistakes can occur, now more fines and new regulations against us..

    I have kids, ELD log just takes away my flexibility to plan in a better way, It's the law to use the ELD but why the law is made? so we can be safe? Answer is NO I don't find safe using ELOG, You are more worried about the log then safety, I can't find safe parking lot of times because of E log, I can't take a rest when I'm tired because of ELOG, I have to drive faster because of Elog, Please someone tell me if I'm wrong , Troopers only know the law but we deal with the reality , And the reality is ELOG is just a crape

    That’s what they get when they allow all these companies to self certify! The last ELD that we had was noncompliant with them to or something was wrong so not only did we lose $250 on each device but we didn’t get any money back from that company because of it exclamation so it was literally $500 down the drain! And we had to re-buy two more ELD‘s. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is non-compliant as well and we are in the same boat again. If it happens a second time I’m going to paper logs and they can kiss my ass. Let them say something to us. I’ll tell them I’m tired of buying ELD devices because they’re too lazy to make sure that these companies are compliant or are up to their standards it’s their fault! So infuriating

    ELD’s should just be dropped and paper logs used all over again…. FMCSA seems to not know that shippers and pick up or drop locations take their sweet ass time killing the drivers hours. Like when appointments are issued but they have you at a door or stand by to load. Then they expect for delivery to be made the following morning with or without appointment. That doesn’t make any sense. It just stresses drivers out to the point where they have to be rushing everywhere. Not fair at all for drivers to deal with this nonsense.

    I have a 1998 FL with Detroit 60 12.7. No emission and no elogs. It’s such a relief to not have to deal with all that crap.

Then year after year they keep coming up with new regulation laws for truckers but they let the broker industry run wild Wild West on truckers. Never make any Lacey’s regulating brokers (the parasitic leeches of the industry) who can run all kinds of scams on us and we can’t do a dam thing about it.     LOL OK now who's paying to have this replaced? Wasn't the truckers fault FMCSA Wasn't happy with it sooo FMCSA needs to pay for replacement!     I personally don't want to work 14 hours a day, or drive 11 hours a day, but sometimes I work 8 hours and drive 5 hours and I have to shut down for 10 hours break, we need some flexibility to get our work done and get home to our family, I don't have set schedule, overnight once or twice a week, my boys need me to come home and be a stable figure in their development, as much as I love them, they need more, yes I'm married and they are fine when I'm gone, but life is short guys, pray without ceasing

    I'm on "paper logs" already. Our company trucks are all gliders no elds for us but we use a tablet for logs that are easily edited just like paper( for educational purposes) 😆.

      Eddie, if you are on tablet or as we call them... electronic paper 😂, and they are not hooked up to an ELD dash plug, make sure that you are able to print your log on command. We run gliders to and my driver got stopped in NY, had a tablet with non ELD version of keep trucking app, because he was too lazy to draw a line on paper and NY required him to print it out. It is part of the law but I appealed it to FMCSA, I stated he had no internet connection or wifi in rural NY so he couldn't hook up with the printer. FMCSA sided with me and it was removed from our company records. He was still put out of service by NY for 10 hrs so be aware of it. Tablet + logbook app + glider and no ELD plug... FMCSA says you must print on request from DOT if they enforce the rule.

      @@TheRoadhammer379 I never heard of having to print logs. Our safety department would have mentioned that. We have 40+ trucks. The officer usually just takes the tablet after I put it in enforcement mode they look a week back and send the logs to them. Never heard of printing anything.

    Most of ELD owned by Indians, or Indian carriers installed those ELD are editable fully. They are using by disconnecting them and resetting by tech team sitting in india

    I run paper in my 2013 587 Pete. Never have put an ELD in as I use the 8/30 rule..I stay local but am glad they have that rule. I actually only use paper when I go beyond the radius but I use a time card running around home...

      I've done it for a driver trying to back into a tight Dock down the street from my house,he never herd of it either,I pointed it out and helped him back in,they are just throwing these people out here in automatic trucks they are driving like cars and no knowing what the Sam Hill as my mom would say,what they are doing.

    I believe that the entire vision for hours of service when it was originally conceived was to increase safety and provide protection to the drivers from their dispatchers who would blackmail them with their jobs to run that truck round the clock to get that load their on time whether they were tired or not. I myself am not a longtime veteran as some are here with only 11 years under my belt, but I do believe that it was implemented years ago for instances as this and as well for drivers who were super truckers in those days that ruined it for everyone else. But since then, the system has been demonized not by the drivers per say but as these carriers who still push their drivers to the extreme in the name of the load to where modern technology gives another way for FMCSA to in their minds, lessening the ability to run multiple logs but in turn, it is backfiring on them with drivers speeding in unsafe places, aggressive driving and high levels of congestion on highways. It also gives lead way for companies to micromanage their drivers for every second they’re driving as well as tracking their every move in that truck. When a dispatcher can see your hours and has no clue what they’re looking at but yet still dispatches you based upon calculations is where the safety issues start cause they believe in planning accordingly to those numbers and then ask questions when those numbers don’t work out. I believe that if they put into the regulations that the company cannot see your logs until they are submitted by the driver as in the days of paper logs, then it would force the company to communicate with the driver to plan loads accordingly to the drivers hours, knowledge and understanding of the areas that driver is going to. But that’s my 2cents.

    My opinion only, there are to many different kind of eld's, and very likely, most cops were only shown a quick course on a couple. So....that said, they need to pick one or two eld's, and learn to read them. Make those the ones to use. Or, let us just go back to paper, and leave us alone !!

    About time some drivers ,they don't care and drive more than 13 for money .too many accidents happening now. Just in case I'm a owner operator but safety overall we have families outside driving small cars.

    It don't really matter to me about paper logs because I'm old school I started out on paper logs back in 1982 that's all we used to use

      Considering it's taught in the schools(mine at least) won't be to difficult, hell may even lead to more productivity, cause F having to make any more lines than absolutely needed.

    MasterELD is the same system as ELD 1. I used MasterELD before, and was going to get with Super Ego last year, but thankfully I didn't!! I think a few of those foreign run trucking companies in Illinois use these types of logs,trying to get by. Guess they'll find something else to get by with now. 😄
