  • Edit: There is a blank space at 6:10 that is not present in my video editor pre-render. No worries, its just a freeze-frame of the last frame before the blank area.
At the request of more than a few viewers, we're going to take a more in-depth look at some engagements, specifically the methods we use to engage a target and stay alive after.
This video analyzes our last flight of the night/morning of July 1st & 2nd and is the only one of our many Ace-In-A-Flight moments that I have almost complete footage of. We will freeze-frame and talk about the decisions made and techniques used to pull these kills off, as well as what the RIO responsibilities are for each.

"The exact distance at which the AN/AWG-9 sends the ATC depends on the setting of the TGTS switch as detailed above" HB Manual - Weapons and Weapons Employment Overview. I call it the margin of miss switch. Keep up the excellent videos, no one else has really shown the fun a RIO can have especially paired with a great pilot in PvP.

Correct, that dictates what time to impact it goes active. We were highly fatigued and were wondering about how PH ACT and ACM Cover Up affect that, but while rendering the video I realized how dumb we were sounding due to that fatigue. Why would it affect a missile that drops active off the rail? lmao! (For everyone else, this switch is what we're referring to: i.imgur.com/tLvBf5F.png)
Thanks for the info regardless, it'll help clear up anyone else's confusion. These videos won't stop any time soon!

Awsome breakdown, had to teach myself how to do everythingand now teach others in the backseat. I find that most people struggle with the workflow itself. I also find most pilots don't like their rios saying what to do. It takes a special pair to fly the 14 well. I find airspeed callouts bandit position and directing pilots who lost visual to be the hardest part of an engagement. I have a personal work flow of radar, to speed, back to radar, to fuel, back to radar, again and again. Fuel tends to get shifted out with other things as required though.
Edit: has been awhile since I last flew rio as I was switched to up-front taxi driver instead.

      > I was switched to up-front taxi driver instead
Pour one out for our fallen brother.
You're right though, a lot of pilots want the pilot/RIO relationship to be entirely one-sided, on the pilot's side.

@@Checklist_STT Still have yet to find the "ideal" f14 pilot, not even myself. I think a lot of the problems we see in pilots is because they are used to single seat "light" fighters that are more forgiving. Your engagement and offset to keep distance is beautiful, I have only had that work out once with a pilot. Most pilots want a rio who just operates the radar and nothing else.

Man your incredible. I've RIOd before but man it is a blast watching proper rio action and what to do in proper scenarios. When I first started flying the 14, I used to think STT was garbage and that I should only be using TWS for Fox 3 shots but I've gotten better although I still need lots of work. Sometimes the hard part is finding a good pilot who doesn't care that your learning and won't get frustrated over time since it can be, getting no kills and constantly shot down. Most don't say anything but you can sort of tell in their voice when they are kind of getting bored/pissed. Also the amount of keybinds you must have for everything is insane. Definitely should create more for myself. I'll be checking out the discord for sure

STT has gotten a lot more useful now that the -C Phoenix can properly use it without becoming a brick if lick is lost.
It can be frustrating finding a good pilot. The ideal pilot to learn under is one who has also done their share of RIO time and can talk you through things as you go.
And yes, so very many HOTAS binds :D

@@Checklist_STT So glad the C phoenix is here now. Question, what does the DDD cursor button let you control on the DDD? RDR switch just lets you control the radar thru the DDD and acts as a “DDD cursor”. Can you help and elaborate 😅

Cheers for this mate, really appreciate the indepth breakdown and how you can explain it. (gotta love the comedy thrown in, some Laobi inspiration i presume?)
Me and my RIO perform well enough but without knowing what we are doing wrong with a proper workflow we can only be so effective (amongst all the desync that comes with us being half a planet apart).
Your right, its really difficult to understand the process when you cant see what switches and buttons are being pressed. This forma really helps to clarify what is happening
Keep up the great tutorials mate!

Cheers buddy. Yeah, workload is something that gets hammered out over time. Once you can get situational reactions down to a nicotine-level habit, you almost don't have to say anything.
Best advice I can give is to record yourself and watch it the next day, with emphasis on "what is the most critical information he needs, and when does he need it?" and over time you will start to provide it without him even asking for it, like you're finishing a thought for him.
Stick with it! Keep putting warheads on foreheads.

I'd almost considering killing for a good RIO. LoL or a RIO period. I really do like the teamwork you guys have going. It's organized and Tempest Checklist really puts the SA johnny on the spot. That moving the waypoint in correlation to a target is genius.

    • @Checklist_STT
      @Checklist_STT  2 года назад +2

We refer to different contacts by their altitude zones. The number on the left of a contact represents its altitude rounded to the nearest 10,000 feet. For example, 26,000 would be a zone 3, and 24,000 would be a zone 2. It's just for our own quick reference.
