    Man this looks great! I wouldn't worry about having a mid knob. It has a baxadall style tone stack, which typically have more midrange than the FMV (fender, Marshall, vox/bass, mid, treb) tone stack. The Baxadall tone stack at neutral tone control setting is really flat as compared to a FMV tone stack usually has a slight scoop. Also turning up the mids on a FMV doesn't give you any more mids when you turn it up, where a baxadall tone stack will when you turn back the bass and treble controls. The mids actually increase in volume. I can wait to get my hands on one of these!! Great video!

    this hi gain tone is great. I'm really surprised it come from such a small head. and I appreciate this kind of demo without effects, ODs, drums etc. which just get in the way of hearing how the amp actually sounds. A question though: you say "Not to be confused with the old T5 MkIII"which is the one I find on Hiwatt homepage, so what is the right name/code? Also they got no dealer in Italy, where I live. • @jeffreyhall76
      @jeffreyhall76 2 года назад +1

      @@danielcarter3928 yes I recommend the hi-5. The combo especially because I think the little ten inch celestion they put in it is actually doing something special. The amp is very touch sensitive and high definition. I have a Marshall 2525c and a 68 vibro champ and at times the hiwatt stands out as the most dynamically sensitive. It’s pretty compressed but I love that. The clean channel is very high fi sounding. I love the lead channel to. Best way I could explain the gain channel Is it nails stone temple pilot’s sounds. It’s a dead ringer with my sg playing everlong by foo fighters as well. It doesn’t have a lot of bottom end though which is expected at a 5 watt 10 inch combo. Also if you play edge of breakup strat tones this isn’t the amp without using a pedal. The cleans are clean and the dirt is dirty. If you want a dirty clean you’ll have to get the t-20 because that amp has both a volume and gain knob on both channels. The high five only has a gain knob on the lead channel.

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  Год назад +1

      To be honest the Randall RD1H has way more high gain qualities for thrash or death metal than the Hiwatt Hi-5 and the Blackstar is ok but weak unless it’s modified. I actually have a video showing how heavy the HT-5 is on my channel too. Thanks for checking it out! This Hi-5 is sick but to achieve actual thrash or death tones an overdrive is definitely recommended.

    Hi Greg, it would be great if you could do the same demo - again, this is how amp demos should be in my opinion - for the super hi 50 (not the custom version, which is too expensive and of which it is possible to find some good demos). I've been playing for years a SS maxwatt g200r hd, which I love, but now I'm dreaming about playing a tube head upon which fortin put his hands (even if it's the cheaper version). Keep up the good work. Ciao from Italy. David

    Actually, you are incorrect in stating this is the first time Hiwatt got into the high gain market. In the early 80s they made heads with EL84s in them,. I believe they were labeled 30 watts. They (at least the ones we had in our band) had more gain than you would ever want or use. We mainly used 100's and 50's, but we did use the 30s in the studio sometimes for leads. I'm glad they've got a 5 watt version,. I would like to buy one.

      @AngryTonesRiffClips  3 года назад

      Thank you for that history. However the owner himself at NAMM 2019 stated this amp and the custom super high 50 are their first amps to dabble into ultra high gain metal territory.

You must be awfully young,....or have an awfully low i.q. Not having much money back then,..the first hi gain I played was 30 watt around 1983. I could never use all the gain. or even try. It wasn't high on my list,..I didn't even have a set of genuine Hiwatt spkrs. yet. FYI, Dave Reeves is was once quoted mentioning what he called a hiwatt bulldog,..I think it was a combo from the late 70s and very few were made. I have never seen one. If you want to learn something,..do what you can to dig up an original hiwatt head with el 84s in it,..and you will agree you could never use more gain than that,.. @@Yourd4d I was correct. Take it how you want...Badmouth me all you want. But I was still correct. At the very least there was a deficit of info. involved and yet it was repeated as truth. (If you actually believe the current owners of Hiwatt have no knowledge of the EL84 hiwatts of the early 80s,..or the original one (I think late 70s) called a "bulldog"..I have some swampland to sell you in florida),.. Usually , in life,..you learn to keep your mouth shut until you know for sure you are correct. Repeating wrong information does no good for anyone. And this time,..it apparently came all the way from the "current owners"? of Hiwatt. I mean, how many different owners has Hiwatt had since Dave Reeves died? I lost track. And...I'm guessing none of the owners (of the hiwatt trademark) that came after even knew him. His original amp builder, Harry Joyce, did NOT stick around after that time. I do recall harry made his own amps under his own nameplate.... I regret not buying one. They were affordable when they first came out.

      Lewis Keller Glad you like it! It’s about $300 and I ordered mine through Motor City Music, they were the first US dealer to receive the HI-5 head from Hiwatt. 🤘

    Cant find one anywhere at the price its supposed to be, most seem to be price gouging.

      That sucks, yeah they have gone up ever since the 420 series came out with green tolex.

    Yup. That high gain setting sounds nothing like a HIWATT.

      Yes sir it’s much more modern being it was designed with Mike Fortin. However gain at 9 o’clock it’s pretty awesome, beautiful Hiwatt classic crunch all day! This was a metal demonstration. 🤘

      It’s components and materials are designed in England, but it’s manufactured overseas.

    Does anybody by any chance know the difference between the hi5 and the t5?

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  2 года назад +1

      Yes. The original T5 MKII is a more classic gain Rock n roll amp, whereas the Hiwatt Hi-5 was designed with more high gain for heavy rock to metal tone. It’s a great clean amp as well being the switch/button goes from clean to the overdrive channel.

      Sick I have a t5 mkIII and the gain def seems like it lower than what you got there. Funny I can't find almost anything about the t5 anywhere. Also I've see hi5 amps with the back panel labeled " hi5/t5" so that has me confused
