Exactly that . It’s small and doesn’t take up a lot of space . When you need to use it . It’s good to go plus it’s a good little practice amp as well .
I’m a big fan of low watt tube amps. My collection so far: VHT Special 6Ultra Ampeg GVT5H Marshall DSL1H Orange Rocker Terror Blackheart Killer Ant Bugera T5 Infinium Blackheart Little Giant Randall Diablo 1watt Vox Lil Nighttrain Jet City PicoValve Blackstar HT1 Metal I’d love to add one of these to my collection along with the 7watt Fender Bassbreaker.
The grit on channel 2 sounds really nice. Currently amp less and just using sims at home. Always cool to see cost efficient and small amp reviews. Maybe one day I’ll play live again and need a new amp.
Amazing little guber. That clean is very moreish. Loving the combination with delay and a bit of gain. Gain on this beauty is satisfying- full, resonant and punchy. Lots of usable features. Very interested. Loved the heavy intro.
I have this amp and it is awesome for 5 watts! The overdrive channel has plenty of crunch and sustain! A great practice amp for only 350 dollars! I just wish it had an input for a footswitch.
Great demo! What a cool little amp, especially for the price. The clean channel tone was really good. The dirty channel had a kind of retro-doom vibe to me. Definitely on my list for a bedroom amp!
This is tempting. The price point is very nice, plus two channels. I don’t have experience with Hiwatt aside from the prices. I keep hearing they’re great amps, well designed, hopefully easy to service?, and some in the doom community really like them. I’ve always wanted to try one. This may be the entry point..thanks for the video. Constructive feedback: consider a clean channel test without effects ya tease. Otherwise keep up the great work on this channel.
Does it have a good tube punch and feel on the clean channel? Just wondering. Some 5 watt amps do have a good punch and power, others not. I have a Magnatone Starlite 5 Watt, it is very powerful. Super amp. I want the Hiwatt, to use as the right side of my studio stereo setup without spending another $1,500.
So for the in the mix it was recorded with a Sunn 2x12 . Then for the stand alone sections I used the captor X . Thanks for checking this out . Glad to hear your liking it .
No stacking of fuzz on the clean channel? 😜 Been wondering about this one. Already have a Minimat, and my BigRig is a Matamp GT1 + Sound City 120. So this would maybe help the home rig match up. 😂
do you think it might run out of headroom with a couple of gain related pedals? the t20-10 might be worth a step up for the pedal platform player maybe?
It could possible but I’m not familiar with the model that you mentioned . So I wouldn’t be able to really say yes or no . But I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt .
Well......I used to play a Carvin 100XB 100 Watt half stack at bars and nightclubs with my band. It was crushingly loud. Had the Police called during a downtown gig for excessive noise. Lololol. 100 Watt tube amps are for Arena's or getting arrested. 😂
It seems like that’s the biggest gripe with this amp . Is not have a FX loop . Me personally I don’t really use them that much . But I can see why people would like having one .
I feel they are one of the OGs for the Doom community . I feel Orange , SUNN , Hiwatt and Matamp are kind of the go too’s for that style . Hopefully you can grab one soon .
That's really cool. I should invest in a lunchbox head at some point, my amp habot is taking ul a lot of space... Two questions: Does it have a loop? I assume the answer to this is 'yes' but are the channels footswitchable?
It a really cool little amp especially if you record stuff at home . So to answer your questions . It does not have a loop and the only way to switch channels is with the button on the front of the amp. I know a lot of people have asked me already if it had a loop . But all and all it’s a great bang for your buck .
Have the same amp. Clean side is good with some pedals, for example rat circuits, but muffs really don't shine. They sound thin and if you increase bass they sound muddy same if you roll back treble. Gain channel doesn't take pedals well at all even at low gain settings, the sound with muffs and rats is blurry plus amp gain dominates over any pedal character. As far as how high gain it is, medium output pickups won't do the job if you like really gained up sounds, high output like a sd invader sounds more gainy of course. Overall I'm not very impressed with it, but hey it's up to personal taste I guess.
Well I agree with you on somethings . The gain channel isn’t that bad for pedals . I would just prefer the clean channel for that . You just really need to dial it back . The standalone section with the Black Mass fuzz was with the gain channel . Honestly I thought it took it very well . Now I agree with you on Muffs really not liking the clean channel . But I think that is due to the treble response on this amp . If you really bring back the treble and crank the bass . It fills the tone out a bit better . But yes everyone is going to have their own opinion on it . If it works for you then use it . If not there is plenty of other amps out there for ya .
A 5Watt valve amp can rattle the widows out of most 'bedrooms' and WILL wake the kids ..............or the parents..................and the neighbours..................and possibly the neighbours neighbours. My DSL1 on it's 0.1W setting still easily reaches 95db. There is probably no such thing a a bedroom amp in reality.
I’m starting to think the same way. So far the best set ups I’ve come up with are the Fender tone master Princeton’s on the 0.1 watt setting and the Monoprice ( 12 inch speaker ) with a little black box pedal ( master volume ) through the effects loop. I’m open to any other ideas. This amp will be next to try.
I've wanted a Hi-5 for a bit now. I want one even more now.
Desktop studio workhorse right there. What more could you really want out of a studio amp? So sick.
Exactly that . It’s small and doesn’t take up a lot of space . When you need to use it . It’s good to go plus it’s a good little practice amp as well .
I picked one of these out when it was released on National Redhead day. Love this little beast. I do agree it is great for pedals.
that riff tho! Killer little amp
Very much appreciated 🙏🏼
Now this is a high and might amp, the tones out of this little thing are killer
Stoked to hear your digging this 🤘🏻
Great heavy sound even without any pedals, but it sounds really sick with the fuzz.
I love little low wattage amps like this. I had a 1-watt blackstar for a little while that I honestly regret getting rid of.
I’m a big fan of low watt tube amps. My collection so far:
VHT Special 6Ultra
Ampeg GVT5H
Marshall DSL1H
Orange Rocker Terror
Blackheart Killer Ant
Bugera T5 Infinium
Blackheart Little Giant
Randall Diablo 1watt
Vox Lil Nighttrain
Jet City PicoValve
Blackstar HT1 Metal
I’d love to add one of these to my collection along with the 7watt Fender Bassbreaker.
sounds excellent, very tempting at that price point.
The price point is amazing . You can’t even get certain pedals for that price 😂
The grit on channel 2 sounds really nice. Currently amp less and just using sims at home. Always cool to see cost efficient and small amp reviews. Maybe one day I’ll play live again and need a new amp.

You won Febs giveaway ! Shoot me a DM on IG and I’ll get that pedal out to you 🤘🏻
Thanks for the awesome review. Looking to grab one. Keep up the good work.
Sounds killer and nice chops!!!!
Much appreciated 🤜🏼🤛🏻
this amp sounds so sick
now i want it really bad
This amp would be great for recording. Thanks for the demo.
Absolutely!
i love this amp. i really want one to use as a pedal platform
Dude, that intro track doomed so fucking hard. Love how that riff ended. Very nice
Cool amp for the price. The dirty channel has a nice character.
🤘🏻
Awesome demo. Great sounding amp and it covers a lot of ground.
Very much appreciated!
Great price and tone. I have enough monster amps. I've been trying some mini amps lately and will have to check this one out.
It really does sound amazing!
It’s a sweet little amp especially at its price point !
Its perfect Zac!
Glad you think so . It’s a feisty little amp . 🤘🏻thank you for checking it out .

Ive got this amp. love it! Great Video
Thank you

This would be great for someone who wants great tone/sound that can be used at lower volumes for say apartments, bedrooms, ect
Exactly !
I always think hiwatt amps are way more boutique priced than they are, like I don't know why but I just expect them to be in the friedman price range.
The vintage ones like Pete Townsend and David Gilmour used aren't cheap
Yet when I was a kid they were cheaper. Cause they weren't marshall. And they were lo gain
Nice! I've been thinking about getting one. Great demo. What cab were you using?

fair point, thanks@@FuzzedDrones
Awesome amp!
Glad you dig it !
Nice!!!
I love it
Was the noise floor a little high in the room? Or is it the recording? OR do you hear a constant hiss?
Low headroom amps are killer for dirt.....but if you want volume can't avoid the big monster 100 water...
Well......I used to play a Carvin 100XB 100 Watt half stack at bars and nightclubs with my band. It was crushingly loud. Had the Police called during a downtown gig for excessive noise. Lololol. 100 Watt tube amps are for Arena's or getting arrested. 😂
They also work well for shaking pictures & plates off the walls of bar/restaurants.
Great price. Wish there was an fx loop.
It seems like that’s the biggest gripe with this amp . Is not have a FX loop . Me personally I don’t really use them that much . But I can see why people would like having one .
@@FuzzedDrones especially if you're using the dirt from the amp.
@@FuzzedDroneswould I still be able to use an attenuator between the amp and speaker for apartment playing or would I even need one ?
Yeh yeh yeh quality total
Not sure what that means .
@@FuzzedDrones I was waiting for this video man lol congratulations on your work
I've been hearing a lot about Hiwatt from the doom metal community lately. I gotta play one in person!
I feel they are one of the OGs for the Doom community . I feel Orange , SUNN , Hiwatt and Matamp are kind of the go too’s for that style . Hopefully you can grab one soon .

Wow! The price surprised me.
Yeah they are priced very fairly .

HI-5 or Revv G-20?
Hi-5
Both
