I bought a Hiwatt custom 100 in 1978. Such a wonderful clean full amp. I had to sell it when stopped gigging. It had a very early serial number like 525? Took pedals so well, like a RAT and OD1
Its just my 2 cents but the reason I really like the videos back when this channel started is because it was 2 guys hanging out unedited. Can we go back to unedited? I like all the banter! Lee your the best!
I've got the T40/20 with the 2x12 extension cab - I've never played it live on 40 watts - the 20 watts is so frickin' loud! Great amp! A Strat with a compressor is just pure gold into these -
I have a T20/10 head with a fane equipped 1x12 (originally an Octopulse), as well as a Hi-Tone classic HiWatt clone. These are fantastic amps - classic yet overlooked today. Glad to see you cover them.
Marshall vs. VOX vs. Orange vs. Laney vs. Hiwatt. Have I forgotten other brands? Anyway, yeah. It's a brilliant idea and I think it would make for a great video!
Great amps! Thank you for actually showing the settings! You guys ALWAYS get great tone and I always wonder how you’re getting it. Please show more of that with other amps as well. Love your channel!!!
I'm excited about seeing the HIWATT and PARK brands regaining a prominent place in the world of guitar amps! So glad to see you guys featuring these! Definitely wanna see you guys get a representative from HIWATT to go through all the ranges to explain the differences in greater detail Let's see those PARK amps and the WEM cabs too!
What makes these a lot worse than older Hiwatts? I've been perusing these newer ones as an alternative to the standard brands but nowhere nearby has them @@cyclesgoff9768
I had a Hiwatt Custom 100 head & a 4x12 cabinet back in the late 70's and now have a T20/10 head and 1x12 cabinet. Although they don't really sound like the 70's Hiwatt's (although the clean channel gets close to it) they do sound really good!! I love the 1x12 cabinet, it is very full sounding for just a 12" speaker and of course they look great!! I love the Hiwatt Badge!! One other thing, the 100-watt head I had was really hard to get a good sound at a lower volume, these are just the opposite. You can get a great sound at a lower volume, but they still can get loud!!
Big ❤ to Captain! Been watching his videos for many years, this is the first time I really loved his approach and attitude in the demo: he got nerdy when explaining headroom, didnt interrupt Peter at all and gave him totlal space and freedom to demo, gave many constructive and objective feedback about the amps, was in a chilled mood, also was funny when they were talking about pulling that thing (knob) out. Thank you Captain! Kudos to you! I had seen you many times being in some sort of tension with Peter, but in this video you were amazing!!!!
I play a pair of big boi 100w Hiwatts into 4x12s and yeah, the trick is to get the master volume up and let the power section cook a bit (like a plexi). Absolute monster rock machines.
The breakup kicks in really early and sounds more like a breakup to fuzz rather than a distorted sound. Sounds good but it's a little fierce to say the least!
Just got a 20/10 a couple months ago. Great amp. I've noticed the sweep of the mid knob is HUGE - seems like it does way more than the other two eq knobs. I usually just leave all 3 cranked at all times though. The distortion channel itself is just okay and the reverb is shit, but the sound of the normal channel is FANTASTIC. Great pedal platform, great just to crank on the normal channel. Very versatile, even if you only use the normal channel and don't dick with the EQ too much. Worth the money, for sure.
The Heritage into the normal channel at 12:30 is perfect! Roll the volume a bit off on the neck for cleans and then hit the bridge for that light crunch sound. It'll sound great in a band mix like that and "read as clean" more than you'd think.
@@timnotbrianmay I had the audio going in the background and thought something had gone wrong with my pc!! sounded awful!! That would certainly NOT sell me an amp :)
I can’t wait for the reissue videos. I’m really on the fence. I’ve always wanted a new Hiwatt with the same quality from the 70s and 80s. I think that video would settle my doubts.
I've been waiting for someone to give us a look at what HIWATT is up to. They've got an entire line of solid state amps that look like fun too. Let's see em!
I have the 10/20 Head & 2x12 cab swapped out the chinese made fanes for an F70 & a Celestion Neo, running wet dry with an Orange 0R15 Head & 2 x 12 sounds huge 🧐🤘
These amps have a sound like no other to me. They just have some kind of like sparkle cleans and even great lead tones. Only problem for me is the shipping costs to the USA for these amps.
And they sound glorious! Those cleans are brilliant and tremendously tight. Funny how they refrained from using the super responsive EQ of the DR103. On the one I owned all the gain was in the mid control.
Hiwatt DR 504 OL player here. It is amazing. Takes pedals magnificently. Absurdly I run an Orange PPC212 made in USA cab. I may swap a Vintage 30 with a celestian Greenback. ENJOY. P.s The DR 504 is a 50 watt.
Man I had a 100W Hiwatt (don’t ask what kind it was early 90s) many years ago and I sold it and a Les Paul Custom cherry for a song. I think that’s why I have so many guitars and amps now. Guilt and GAS. I do have that T20/10 actually it’s a great little amp. I don’t use it enough cause I’m in love with my Princetons but yeah it’s a great little amp.
If they're well made, then I'm all for it. Like another commenter said, people don't complain about their phones being made in China or their tvs in Korea.. quality is quality.
The hiwatt is deffs a clean monster which was perfect for townshend super fuzz and gilmours big muff sounds. If that’s how you like your tone grab one.
Great demo as usual chaps! For me, I think I'd use the 40/20 for gigging as it seems to have more body that would work with a drummer while the 20/10 would be great for home or small rehearsal use. Btw, I like your Oasis/T-Rex mash up too :)
I expected the clean sound to be "cleaner". I get Vox vibes from here. I had a Hiwatt Lead 50 (head from the mid80) and it shares similarities with these new amps: master volume+gain and dual channel. The Lead 50 clean sound was outstanding, super clean till almost the max. These new models seems to have less clean headroom and to be more oriented on giving your sound an edgy character. They sound good to me.
I have an original DR103 and you can wind the inputs up almost all the way before it starts to break up. Got to be a tad careful with the master volume though otherwise you can hurt people and cause major structural damage over a fairly wide area.
I used to rehearse at a studio that had an ancient 100 watt Hiwatt, DR 100 perhaps.. it just hlew my mind, was a long time ago but id love to try a lower wattage version. I suspect the higher headroom was part of the charm though, it was just clean and present at any volume.
Sad that these weren't made with four inputs like the old amps as that gives a lot of tonal options. I guess a lot of compromises had to be made to hit the low price points.
Whereas I would prefer to combine Steve Fryette's long-planned Synergy Sound City preamp module with the forthcoming Synergy SYN-20IR head, a HiWatt T20 Mk. III head weighing 25 pounds for USD$650 is pretty tempting (not least because I could run my Synergy SYN-1 into its effects return).
Me thinks I like the clean with singles and maybe a pedal in front. That gain channel may be a bit “boxy” and there’s a definite squeal thing going on. Only hands-on time with the amp will tell

Who owns Hiwatt now? EDIT: NVM... I found out from companies house
AFAIK Steve Fryette owns the name in the USA
