Ive been a self employed auto tech myself now for over 20 years now, with the majority of my clientele being return customers. Anytime i have to remove a trans pan for whatever reason, i weld an o2 bung in the pan. Works great

I built a hundred of these stock from ‘82 to ‘99, then they started showing up with all kinds of ridiculous gears and shit…no instructions. I did the fist one, never touché ‘em again. Retired in 2001

Yeah i was wondering where you got the transbrake too? Jegs has a speedmaster brand transbrake now that looks like the one you are installing?

Will this transbrake allow you to leave in 2rd gear?

Great video! May I ask for your experience regarding an issue I'm having on a new trans build. I just installed a TH400 with TCI full manual reverse valve body w/brake and clean neutral that I picked up from a friend who never installed it. After installation this weekend I took it out for a quick test and unfortunately it will momentarily lock between when shifting from first to second gear? All gears work as they should, including trans brake test. The only issue is the one/two shift. In your video around the 2:30 mark you mention the ball going between direct and reverse ports to block it. I believe this is where my issue is, but I unfortunately don't have the instructions for the TCI #221505 valve body, but did see in the #221100 instructions that a check ball must be installed 1/8 of an inch below the surface of the reverse bore or 2nd gear will lock up. Do you have any experience with this? I'm going to remove the valve body and check, but want to get any ideas before I pull the valve body. Hoping this is it because I don't want to yank the trans out. I'm hoping this could be the issue.

v8vega383 I think you are on the right track. I assume you left off the second seal on the center support and the middle seal in the direct drum?
It’s been a while from the last time I used a TCI Brake, I remember they had gaskets.

Mountains Garage Thanks for replying so quick. Yes the seals were removed. All the gears work as they should and the trans brake works well. Only weird thing is the one two shift locking up. Very strange for sure.

Found the issue. It was a faulty valve body. Removed it with the same transbrake VB, (less clean neutral) and all is now great!.

Is that transbrake the summit one or the tsi ebay transbrake? They both come with terrible installation instructions

Not required but I leave most of them off. GM did as well in the Heavy Duty stuff.

@@mountainsgarage ok, , i am rollerizing the output shaft, do i eliminate the 4-prong bronzed thrust washer? the beveled snap ring is a little tight going in, it goes in without forcing it but i would say there is no clearance.

Hey Shawn I’ve been watching a lot of your videos on th400 because I build a lot of them and you have a lot of good info thanks for that.
I have a trans brake steel valve body that I can’t get to work Properly the tranny has about 220 psi I Until you put it in reverse or activate the transpiration and the pressure dropped about 50, the valve body has the 1 plastic check ball with the spacer spring under it, and that’s the only check ball.
It looks kind of like a hipster brake and I talked to them guys and sent them pictures and it’s not theirs can’t seem to find out who made it could be an old GER. It’s like it’s losing pressure to the reverse band.
I can sent you a pic of it if I can figure out how to do it is there an email or something I can use?

Do you need to re install the original check balls on the valve body transmission side

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  3 года назад

No steel balls just a big plastic ball between the plate and the valve body.
Other Transbrake Valve Bodies differ so have to refer to the instructions.

@@mountainsgarage How are you going about ensure that valve body on the case is flat, are you using a file or a wet stone?

@@carlosv.118 I go over it with a flat stone. You can see right away if any areas are high or low.
