I use to build trans. Never put a trans brake on. Im amazed with everything you don’t reuse great video
Very good build , I've installed countless Transpaks and Man. Valvebody's but I've never a transbrake installed either. Still stumps me by how those parts are not utilized and how it still works functions. Great job.
The drill press trick is awesome. Idk why I've never thought of that👍 great video thanks for posting!
Most drill presses have an adjustable stop to limit drill depth. You can also use it to lock the spindle down to free up a hand.
Well I learned something new today. Thanks man.
Ive never seen a trans brake solenoid inside the pan like this before im curious to see how well this kit works. Nice job on the build
Awesome video.. There are 2 more small upgrades to add. Toss the plastic bushing, replace them with roller bearings, and upgrade the sprag. Take a look at precision transmission video on th350/ th400. He also talks about mods to make a mvb out of the stock vb.
Nice job, thinking of doing this to my '87 square body Big Block.
Interesting how the new valve body fluid circuitry is much simpler than the Oem version with all its automatic shift features. No vacuum modulation, speed governor etc. can't wait to see it in action.
Damn I am glad I ran across this video! Bout to do the same thing to my th400.
Sweet!
IS there no pressure spring for the pump included?
Great vid thanks
Does the modulator valve require a spring
@blaserbuilds I have a TSI transmission TH400 (aftermarket case) and their transbrake like you show. I've had issues where the line pressure is too high. At idle in neutral it is 275#, in 1st 300#, in 2nd 300#, in 3rd/drive it's 200#. It blows fluid out the vent and I've checked it (it's clear), installed a catch can (mounted up high to allow drain back), etc. No idea why it's so high in pressure and I've put in a different pump and it does it as well. Any ideas on the culprit? Valve body, Case flaw, other?
That is weird. Have you tried doing anything with regulator spring to lower it?
Way more involved then I thought to install valve body and trans brake so I guess I’m not gonna do it
Good video 👍👍👍
Nice work! Does this require you to hold the transbrake button for reverse? Also is reverse in the same R position or in the Neutral like some other reverse valve body W/brake?
Neutral, and hold button.
Best transbrake install video on RUclips! Thanks for creating. Couple questions: do you street drive the car that has this transmission with the transbrake? How “streetable” is it or would you not recommend. Thanks again!!
This was more of a track car, but I would drive it on the street too. Had more to do with the car than the transmission. Roll cage, no interior etc. But it was registered, had lights/blinkers etc. I would drive to to the track sometimes.
@@BlaserBuildsthanks for the response. I enjoy your videos. This one was a great one.
Do you have a set of injectors you would sell? Snake eater or?? Need 100# or more but anything is better than nothing. Hunter is covered up so i thought i would try you.
Wow that fluid looked like it had some water contamination. If not what was it. Incase it was a different fluid thanks
Very informative! I recently purchased an el Camino to use as a drag and drive event car. BBC, 4.10 Posi 12 bolt and TH-400. I'd like to install a trans brake but thought I would run it with just a line lock first. The previous owner was not the car builder and he didn't know much about it. The trans has a shift kit in it now as it doesn't shift until 4K RPM and shifts quite hard which is fine for racing but not so fun for street driving. I don't know what converter is in it.
I'm just kind of learning about automatics so what controls the shift point on them and what is the best way to change it. Should I go to a manual valve body?
Vacuum modulator and kick down cable can control the shift points. Manual VB is nice if you don't mind shifting it yourself.
@@BlaserBuilds Thanks
Do the orginal check balls have to be reinstalled on the transmission or left out?
Only the ones called out in instructions.
That fluid... did that young man help you and top off transmission with yoo-hoo before this teardown?
When you get to the center support part of the video, you mention not needing remove it unless you're rebuilding the trans at the same time. Then later, you have the center support in hand and talk about removing the center sealing ring. I assume that can be done with the center support still mounted securely in the case? Maybe with a pick?
Yes. You can remove woth a pick or screwdriver. The split rings I just grab with a fingernail usually.
I just wanna add a trans brake to my th400. Could that be done with the trans still in the car? ( I wouldn’t do it my self of course. Just curious)
No, you usually need to make modifications in the drums and pump.
How are you getting your speedo signal from your th400. I'm swapping my 4l60e out for one and am wondering what the easiest way would be.
Why would he want that in a race car?
@@Stevesbe some do some don't. I'm building a 700+ turbo truck, but I'd still like to drive it around and know how fast I'm going.
@@bstgarage7803 I used a gps speedo from speedway motors, simple and functional. It matches my autometer gauges pretty close.
Curious to know how you have that on the stand

Is that trans brake kit a full manual as well?
Yes, i belive all transbrake valvebodies are full manual and reverse pattern.
👍👍👍
👍
No link to the valve body ?
I can add one. Good plan.
Did everything said don't have reverse
Pro brake you have to half the transbrake button to reverse
I installed mine and only had 1st gear in all shifter positions
Hoping to learn something from this video
did you verify the selector is in the manual valve?
Yes it was in. I'm wondering if I put the modulator valve in backwards if that is possible
@@BlaserBuilds it did have neutral
@@chuck6698 Same valve body as in video?
That fluid looks like mud
Had water in it originally. Was pink. Did a couple flushes with old fluid and turned brown.
Is it just me or did that trans fluid look hella muddy and gross?
1st
very terrible video man! thanks
No prob. Glad I was able to ruin your day.
@@BlaserBuilds I have been searching youtube for a good vid that shows how a transbrake works but not found much. This video helps a decent amount by showing the parts but I'd still like to see some sort of animation that shows exactly whats happening.
Is it just rerouting pressure to apply 1st and reverse some how?
@@umakemerandy3669 Yes, Solenoid routes line pressure oil to reverse circuit while in 1st gear. When button/solenoid releases, it exhausts fluid from reverse circuit to "release" and launch the car.
@@BlaserBuilds Ah yes, thank you! Now I see the purpose of the hole you drilled. I also now understand how it is possible to be able to bump or creep. That never made sense to me but the trans being in first gear primarily, then adding/releasing reverse gear pressure makes sense.
Should whip up a proper video about this titled "how a transbrake works" or somethin, I bet it would get a lot of views.
And you really should be wearing gloves you're just absorbing all that fluid. I knew a mechanic that had alot of heavy metals built up in his body from working on transmissions over the years and he was in bad shape
