MY POSITIVE & HONEST SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE IN INDIA!

  • I have seen many negative videos about solo female travel in India and travel in India in general however I had such a great time in India after spending 4 months in India for the first time so I wanted to make this video to share my positive experience in a very honest way.
I cover the aspect of the the attention solo female travellers get in India, the topic of unsafety in terms of theft, death, violence and rape and the harassment aspect.
I've been honest, it's not all easy, you do get looked at and men will want to speak to you, but I have not felt unsafe in any way in India as a female traveller. There have been times when I've been annoyed and times where perhaps I could have gotten into a bad situation but as I say in this video, I do not speak to strange local men, I do not take their number, I do not go out with them and this means that I do not put myself in any potentially bad situations.
I have never felt like my belongings would be stolen or that I would be mugged or harmed in anyway. Plus I have had many very nice experiences with the people of India especially families.
Thank you for watching. If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe!

YES YES YES YES YES!!! thank you so much for making this video Ellie! I have been travelling to India every year for the last 10 years. I agree so much with what you have said. I wish more people could hear this message and understand this. Just last week there was a travel vlogging couple who gave advise on India and said they wouldn't recommend women travel solo there, which made me so upset and angry as it's so wrong. People traveling to India just need to do some research before going and see things from a different perspective as you have shown in your vlog.
Yes in the 10 years I've traveled there India is getting easier and easier for tourists. There are more options in regards to food, transportation and hotels.
India is a beautiful country with the kindest most hospitable people, I have made many local friends on my travels and that's one of the reasons I keep returning.
I am SO looking forward to being back there in July.
Have loved watching your series and honest raw approach, happy travels to you!!

    • @MrSivansuresh
      @MrSivansuresh 5 лет назад +9

You had a choice to live in between in lndia and UK, you choose to live in UK which is understandable. It's sad that Indian elites asked British rulers to leave India because they wanted to self-rule. Self-rule is not easy when Indians are divided into millions of communities and think about their own self-interest first. It's shame that Indians have to flee from India to settle down in western and middle eastern countries despite all the abuses they receive. It's shame that Indians are getting demonized all over the world.

    • @MrSivansuresh

@@tejaswigarimella9359 You may not be 'slave' in your own country but most Indians are desperate to live in western countries. Imagine how westerners feel when they see Indians begging and pleading to live in their countries. Indians rush to take pictures with ordinary white tourists like they are celebrities. They stand and stare at western tourists like crazy fools. Your bollywood stars go to western countries to record their song and dance videos. They speak in American accent and treat average Indians like thrash. When NRIs from western countries get more respect than Indian scientists and engineers in India. Because deep inside we all know that we Indians don't know how to run our own country efficiently. We blame everyone for our inefficiencies except ourselves.

@@MrSivansuresh You can't compare India before colonisation and after colonisation.India was golden bird before colonisation and after colonisation it was made to suffer. The things that you enjoy watching in British and French museum had been snatched from India. As far as emigration is concerned,it is only due to lack of services that isn't available in India because This is a country which has been exploited for 200 years. After Independence in 1947 ,india spent 4 decades to makeup for his losses and on the other hand you were always independent and developing. And you say Waoh India is poor ,diverse and will not make up as a country due to its diversity. But we have survived till now,not a single civic war has happened ,not a single dictatorship and will continue this UNITY AND DIVERSITY .While you can see what is happening around the other country which are less diverse had been independent and are facing civil war , military rule,or only fake democracy.

    Just Few Simple Tips :
    1. Don't entertain overexcited Random people & Maintain Your Personal Space.
    2. Don't hesitate in Taking stand for yourself if someone is pushing and touching you without permission.
    3. Don't be a centre of attraction (as a foreigner you already are) but Dress accordingly.
    4. For females Don't move alone where there are no women and nor to shady places nor in Dark.
    5. Never share your contacts , or overfriendly conversation with strangers especially Men they may take that as a Hint.

I feel like I am a very similar person to you too and I am very much like “thank you no thank you” when it comes to being harassed when travelling, and it’s always worked up it I’m now, so it’s reassuring to see India is no different. Nice video and based on common sense. One important point that was made by another traveling vlogger “Karl Rock” is be careful where you stay too. He refers to many foreigners going to very cheap hotels in not so safe areas. He had mentioned “pahar ganj” in Delhi , which i believe is dangerous for its drug and prostitution. I think he was referring to another female solo traveler who otherwise had a very good travel all over India, but had a terrifying experience at a cheap hotel in that area. And that’s true in any part of the world. In New York there are certain parts that are best avoided, even if you are local. And about staring , In Minneapolis which had a demographic of more than 90% white , in the year 2000 when I was there I was stared at quiet constantly, being Indian , especially in the suburbs, though the people were nice and friendly there.
And this link is from another solo British/Netherlands lady traveler resident who travels around the world. Interesting to watch too :

Thanks for your honest summary about India. Though we have a very rich culture which has been cemented for generations, we lost our warm touch due to
    1)Over population
    2)Attitude towards girls(Especially white girls)
    3)Poverty
We came from a culture where science and arts are the base of the society . The women is considered as pristine. Due to shallow education and over population some lost there valuable maturity.
Just for an example go through below feedback's many will be from men (mostly who r not employed or even if employed drawing basic salary with not much to do in life)
We cant blame anyone for this because some part of society need to grow
    Some Indian men want to
1)Marry only white girl (Sick of Hollywood)
2)Escape India (move to western countries ,expecting a better salary)
    3)Lazy attitude
But we are growing . As time passes people notice that education and character is the only thing which helps one to move forward.
My advice to any foreign travellers
    1) If you are girl ( You will be more noticed by many indian men Please dont entertain any one that doesn't me not to speak at all, just hi and bye)
    2) Just research your travelling plan in google (plan for the recommended places or spots)
    3) At shopping dont bargain by standing just move on( Because we think with foreigners we can make more money ) (Its only because of desperation not intentionally)
4)South India is more professional than North India (So explore more on South)
5)All Indian men are not same.
Have a nice trip at India. :)

I also would advise girls travelling solo to watch the lokal women and follow their behaviour. If they, even younger ladies, walk the streets alone in the evening, I would consider it pretty safe.
I personally think the most dangerous aspect about India is the traffic. And does anybody stay away because of that? (I surely wouldn't)

That is great that had an overall safe and positive experience in India as I am sure lots of tourists do. I am sure there are some very kind and honest people in India as it is such a large and diverse country. However it is not fair to say it was only because you didn't put yourself in that situation that's why nothing bad happened. That is like saying well I haven't been killed yet because I didn't do this or that. I agree of course that you have to be careful and that there are ways of putting your in riskier situations. That being said there are plenty of people that did put NOT themselves in any situation at all but fell upon it from simply living and existing at the wrong time. It will not ever be their fault an the fact is that some tourists have had to face what so many local Indian women have had to face which is sexual assault and/or sexual harassment As some women born and raised in India who go to school and then out to work there have openly talked about how unsafe they feel it is for women as they have been grabbed harassed etc. simply trying to get to get work walking down the street or on a bus , in a taxi etc. They certainly didn't put themselves in harms way by being born there now did they? As a local they know and understand how to stay as safe as possible and avoid risky situations however it doesn't matter some have still been attacked even though they kept to themselves and just traveled to work because the fact is some men there not all but a small percentage do not view women as humans or as living being that deserve to have rights that is the sad truth. That being said there are other countries through out the world facing this issue not just India.

@@TheWanderingQuinn There are some guidelines which women need to follow in India.
      1) Stay in a proper area in a proper hotel. There are several budget chain hotels in India like Fab Hotels and Treebo which cost between US$15 to US$30 per night.
Don't stay in some prostitute hotel in a red light area for US$ 5 per night.
      2) Don't roam around in isolated areas from 10 pm to 5 am under any circumstances.
      3) Dress modestly, avoid tubes, spaghetti straps, tank tops and miniskirts. Also wear sneakers while trekking.
      4) If you talk to men address them as Bhaiya in North India and Anna in South India. These mean brother.
      5) Don't trust people easily. In India foreign women are too adventurous. If you step into a Tuk tuk and the driver practices his English with you, befriends you and invites you to his home for lunch why do you oblige?
You visit him in the slum, play cricket with the 15 year old kids in the neighbourhood park, pat their cheeks and spend time with the family of the Tuk Tuk driver.
What if the Tuk Tuk driver gets his friends, drugs you and harvests your kidney?
You should be careful, if you are in Marseilles and an Algerian taxi driver invites you for lunch you would refuse.
Just take precautions and use your common sense.

Ever since I was a kid I'm glad I had the maturity to not take photos with random white foreigners ,I just saw them as humans unfortunately my friends thought that they were exotic I'm glad that the young India has become mature .

Just like every country India is also safe, only few areas aren't safe to travel at night.. Just like every country have some restricted area...
So please stop thinking that India isn't safe to travel or live!!
And if anyone face any kind of problem, we (Indians) are very supporting and helpful... plz stop thinking like that!!!

    Hello there,
I'm from madurai. Guess you haven't heard about Henk oochappan from Belgium. He has been travelling to Madurai for past 15 years(3 months every year). When questioned about the reason for the visit, He said "people". And he changed his name cause of his beloved friend oochappan(An old Madurai resident). Just thought if you have been more close to the locals you would have loved the place more. Instead of trying to avoid them, thinking its safe! I believe 99% of human beings are compassionate. I'm one among them.
    with lots of love!

There are some guidelines which women need to follow in India.

Being an Indian I feel responsible for the bad or good experiences every tourists face while traveling to India. I won't lie that there's no problem in india there are problems which needs to be fixed but in the majority of places you won't face any problem and in my opinion there should be no such place where tourists should be afraid of to go as india follows "atithi devo bavah" which means guests are equivalent to gods and we should take the best care of our guests and I request all the people visiting india to please look for the positive side until these problems gets fixed and trust me one day not only tourists but the locals also will not have any fear visiting any part of the country at any hour.
We can't blame any individual or person or community or locality for these issues as they didn't get the right upbringing the right education and the right atmosphere while growing up, and why they didn't get is because many people in india are still under poverty line they don't have money to even have a daily meal there are areas in which 8 to 10 people live in a house of just one room . But now the conditions are improving day by day and I assure everyone who visits india india will be perfect one day .
So please don't avoid visiting India just give us an opportunity to host you and we guarantee you that you'll face no problems. Assuring you as a responsible youth of India .
    Thankyou.🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

Extrapolating on the topic of theft.
I once had an overnight journey in a train to another city where I had slept only for 3 hours probably. The train way back home was scheduled 1 AM in the night the next day.
I was supposed to be busy for the whole next day, but fortunately my work was done till the afternoon.
I just sat on a bench while snoozing on one of the busiest train stations in India trying to be awake for the whole 12 hrs. Numerous people sat beside me and saw me snoozing all the while.
Tbh I was surprised to find that nobody even tried to steal my luggage which was loosely held by me whole time.
I think we guys are just extra cautious over theft. And theft seems to be actually very rare here. Anyway I still would advise the readers to be cautious, don't be like me.

yes rape is not good here or anywhere, but to those who are maligning India only in western media (cough cough british), would like to state only one thing, u really need to study Rape per million figures, refer wikipedia etc. And what u will find that on per million basis, India is better than most European countries & defiantly better than USA. Would women consider walking alone in alley ways in Paris in the night or Germany major cities. Those are known hot spots.
