Welcome to... Afghanistan! After more than 2 years of planning, this trip is finally here, and I couldn't be more excited. A 10-day self-quarantine and 2 COVID tests in Istanbul later, I flew to Kabul, the Afghan capital, where I met my friend and guide, Gull ( / silkroadafghanistantravel .
My first day in Afghanistan REALLY wasn't what I had expected it to be... In fact, the whole trip was a huge surprise. I can't wait to share the whole, 6-episode series with you!

I was deployed to Afghanistan with the USMC in 09 and 10, and my time in the military gave me an appreciation for Afghanistan. I won't lie, I miss this country. I miss the hospitality of the ordinary (non-Taliban) people, I miss the endless variety of small storefronts and kiosks selling all sorts of unique goods, I miss the curious children, and I miss the beautiful landscapes.
Yes, there were some tough and frightening moments, but I left Afghanistan with a positive attitude. It truly is a beautiful country, and I hope that one day it will finally be at peace without any foreign military occupation or a corrupt government or a Draconian theocratic militia. Afghans deserve to live peaceful and prosperous lives.

Just think how dangerous it would be without a local guiding you or having a male entourage so I would personally never want to visit after watching this video. I have not felt that feeling with for example Syria even though the war is still an ongoing matter. It’s somewhat very nice and the people are very warm hearted and kind. If we wanted Afghanistan for ourselves, we wouldn't bother trying to train the ANA. Though it would be a war crime, it would've been very quick and easy to kill everyone.
The amount of Jews that died does not compare to the losses in Afghanistan. Very different numbers.
