    I appreciate your retrospective on Taurus. I too have examples of their old and new products. For example, I purchased some thirty years ago, a Model 82, a virtually identical copy of the S&W Model 10 heavy barrel, to serve as a house gun. More recently, I purchased a Taurus Model 85 Ultralight and found it an excellent alternative to the much more expensive and not quite so innovative S&W #60. More recently still, I discovered the very innovative, safe, super reliable and low mass, Taurus PT 738 pistol for which I paid only $200 and carry virtually everyday now. It is a keen example of how Taurus, unencumbered by the idea that higher cost means better quality, can come up with a wide variety of innovative and surprisingly full featured pistols and long guns at, sometimes, stunningly low prices! The Taurus Curve, for example, is a wildly innovative design and has become typical of Taurus ability to think outside the box. Frankly, I have to wonder "What will they think of next?!"

      I only own these two examples - but they came highly recommended by several buddies who've been into Taurus handguns for years. So far, I've been highly impressed with both of them. As far as I'm concerned, they've been a good investment.

    What a great channel you have. I am surprised I've missed it over the last three years. Props on Taurus. They make dogs and have quality control issues like any other company, but by buying guns like their PT92 and others, I can have experience and practice with a lot of different platforms, but still can afford to pay money for the older Smith and Wesson revolvers I like to collect.

    • @Icarryone
      @Icarryone  6 лет назад +1

      My channel format is pretty simple. I'm all for giving a firearm a fair shake. If it turns out to be problematic, you simply won't see me review it. The way I look at it, if a firearm isn't worth my time, I certainly won't waste someone else's time.
      I look forward to seeing more of your videos - and thank you.

    I have a Taurus Tracker much like yours, I also have a PT101 in .40 Cal it is the blued version with adjustable rear sight and wood grips. I also have a Raging Bull in .480 Ruger with a 5" barrel length. I have had zero issues with any of them. My PT101 is from the 1980's and it still shoots great. Taurus had some issues with their first run of polymer type guns, but that is about all I know of and it gave them a bad rap. I have seen many issues with other guns as well, but for some reason people seem to cut those companies slack and throw Taurus under the bus. Nothing wrong with Taurus.

    I've had quality issues with Rugers, and Smith & Wesson has churned out some lemons and then tried to stick their customers with them. The point: Several manufacturers have issues from time to time, and some of the brands touted as "superior" have had problems, as well.
    I currently own/ have owned (2) PT 738 .380's, (1) PT709 Slim 9mm, (1) PT111 G2 9mm, (2) 605 .357 Magnums, (1) Judge Magnum .45 Colt/ .410, (1) Tracker .44 magnum, and (1) Raging Bull .454 Casull....all made from 2013 to 2018.
    With the exception of an issue with the first PT 738 .380 ("A" suffix serial number...first run had problems later corrected) I owned, bought WELL used, that I fixed myself for $0, I have had no problems with Taurus whatsoever. I have had Ruger semi-autos with more problems.
    S&W sold thousands of revolvers (forget the model number) over a several years span that apparently had barrels installed "off center"...not canted needing a clocking, but off center and uncorrectable. Their customer service during this period was geared to stick the customer with a junk gun and some people had to send their "fixed" gun back to S&W multiple times before they finally got a correctly built gun.
    Do those two anecdotal stories mean that Ruger and S&W are all junk? No.
    The same is true of Taurus.

    • @Icarryone
      @Icarryone  6 лет назад +2

      Agreed. Most manufactures occasionally experience a problem with one of their products - Taurus is no different. The thing to keep in mind is that Taurus sells to a "Global" market. That equates to more product sales than any domestic firearms producer currently operating in the US. Therefore any product failure rate is going to appear artificially inflated. Just a fact.

    FWIW: The Beretta 92 adopted by Brazil was a first generation design with a frame-mounted safety and a magazine release located at the bottom corner of the frame. Beretta changed to the slide-mounted decocker on their second-generation 92S. The magazine release was repositioned with the third-generation 92SB. So Taurus basically bought the tooling for Beretta's first generation 92. Taurus would add an ambidextrous safety and relocate the magazine release in the early/mid 1980s. The decocking feature was added in the early 1990s.

    • @Icarryone
      @Icarryone  6 лет назад

      Correct.

    • @danielwatters1203
      @danielwatters1203 6 лет назад

      BTW: Taurus revolvers already had the external appearance of a S&W knock-off even before Bangor Punta bought a majority stake in 1970. The early Taurus revolvers had different features like a two-piece barrel, a coil mainspring, a sideplate-mounted hand spring, and a hammer block safety linkage buried under the hammer and rebound slide. Taurus adopted frame-mounted firing pins on their centerfire revolvers around 1977-'78, nearly 20 years before S&W. Moreover, they started using a transfer bar safety starting in 1980 for the small frame models, and around 1989 for all of their other frame sizes.
      One interesting note is that Beretta's factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil was making revolvers for export back to Italy as early as 1971. The PR71 Tenax looks suspiciously close to the Taurus revolvers of the same era. My guess is that the Brazilian government leaned on Beretta to get domestic production going as fast as possible, despite their lack of official contracts. So, Beretta acquired revolver parts from Taurus for their Brazilian employees to assemble and finish. Given the level of cooperation between Taurus and Beretta, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that Taurus was able to take over the Beretta factory in 1980.

    I'm from Brazil and actually i'm from São Paulo, down here Taurus has a pretty bad reputation. The problem we have here is that the citizens have basically two firearms company to choose from, Taurus or Imbel, both of then are not great. (Sorry for my english, hope you guys are able to understand me)

    • @Icarryone
      @Icarryone  6 лет назад +8

      I also heard that the civilian population can't legally own a pistol with a caliber larger that .380 auto. Any truth to that?

    • @yurisierra9030
      @yurisierra9030 6 лет назад +5

      Icarryone yes, civilians have the following rules for firearms: shotgun: 24 inch barrel minimun, revolver: maximun power is a .38 spl, pistols: maximun power is a .380. And, civilians are basically not able to carry guns, we can have them at our homes. Still though, there is a ton of bureaucracy to own one (like in some cases, one year waiting).

    I've never had an issue with any revolver models from the 80s
    Newer ones, I never had luck with. Poi issues, canted barrels, etc. and I never even considered a Taurus auto. Their new 1911s may be worth while as I'd consider Taurus over Tisas or rock island, llama, ati.
    For the price though you can get a cz that's far better quality

      I only own these two examples - but they came highly recommended by several buddies who've been into Taurus handguns for years. So far, I've been highly impressed with both of them. As far as I'm concerned, they've been a good investment.

      You know, I've never been one of those guys who believed everything I read or was told. I've found them to be a very satisfying investment.

    I've sent so many Taurus semi autos and revolvers back to the factory for customers, that I'll never buy one. The 92 is generally better than the rest, like the frame mounted safety... But i need something that goes bang every time i fire it... I've seen revolvers with cylinders that won't advance, semi autos with frames cracking.
    Get what you pay for... Buy a Smith, or a Glock or a Beretta...
    Don't buy a cheap unreliable gun... Maybe they've changed them since the early 2000's but they were as bad as you claim in the 1970s... Junk
    Love your channel... But you'd have to pay me to take a Taurus

      Don’t listen to Chuck with Alaskan Ballistics he’s a troll. Lol kidding! I think Taurus gets a bad rap because they are such a huge company they don’t always catch all the duds. All of my Taurus guns have been great, except for a 380 that stuck at times. My revolvers from Taurus have always been reliable.
