    Lyrics
I can see you in the morning when you go to school
Don't forget your books, you know you've gotta learn the golden rule
Teacher tells you stop your playing and get on with your work
And be like Johnnie-Too-Good, don't you know he never shirks
    He's coming along
After school is over, you're playing in the park
But don't be out too late, don't let it get too dark
They tell you not to hang around and learn what life's about
And grow up just like them, won't let you work it out
    And you're full of doubt
Don't do this and don't do that
What are they trying to do? (Make a good boy of you)
And do they know where it's at?
But don't criticize, they're old and wise
Do as they tell you to, don't want the devil to
Come and put out your eyes
Hi suzy, hi travis! when I was a 12 year old boy, my brothers took me with them to a night club/restaurant. that day i heard for the very first time a song that changed my life. you know what i'm talking about, right? that one song that awakens your musical tastes? Well, that was it for me. it was my first introduction to progressive rock, and i was all in. the song is school, the band supertramp. i know you have reacted to supertramp in the past, but this is not your typical supertramp song. and the best part is that as a 12 year old french boy, i had no idea what the song was about. now i am an old man and I've been living in the US for almost 30 years, and that song always takes me back to that day. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did the very first time. Love you guys!

One of my favourite songs from Supertramp, along with Rudy, Take the Long Way Home and Dreamer... not forgetting The Logical Song and Fool's Overture... they were one of the biggest bands in their times and I don't think there is any other band that took their legacy... they were unique.
By the way, check the lyrics... there's a lot of message as well...

An extraordinary song, and a seminal album. I think the production on this is extraordinary...every instrument is clear, you can hear every cymbal tap. And I think bassist Dougie Thomson is an unsung hero, nulice lean bass lines, not too fussy and with a lovely sliding technique. This album was a stepping stone for me as a kid to transition to listening to pop music to something more interesting.

It is really hard to explain to anyone today how absolutely, extremely, utterly, mind boggling popular this album was in Canada. Crime of the Century sold 1 million copies when the population of the country was around 20 million. This means that roughly 1 out of 5 households had a copy of the record.

This is from THE Supertramp album. They were progressive until they caved to commercial pressure. After the 70's, they sort of "fizzled'" in my opinion. This album was so hard-core progressive that it remains one of my favorites, though decades later. Even in the Quietest Moments and Breakfast in America were favs of mine as well. In 79, with Breakfast, they started the commercial sound... that album was half-in, half-out. After that they were became a so-so pop band. How the mighty had fallen. I saw them live back in the day. They were one of the best sounding concerts I ever went to! Glad you two jammed to this! Great reaction!

I've commented several times on Supertramp and you have your first taste of intellectual musical genius. You can see on other videos what the intent of Rodger Hodgson was when he wrote this song. Even the picture on the cover of the entire universe (of possibilities) in the background, you see the cell window and two hands grasping at the bars to get out. The entire album is a brilliant concept, as is their next album 'Crisis, what crisis?'. Check out the song 'The Meaning' on that album. Deep stuff. Saw them twice in concert. Unforgettable. Peace!

Produced by Ken Scott who was an engineer for the Beatles at abbey Road. The production and the engineering alone for this masterpiece is incredible, never mind the amazing musicians and the songwriting of Hodgeson and Davies. 10 of 10. If you really enjoyed that I’d recommend the track Rudy, from the same album. It’s like School at another level.

My first *Supertramp* experience - 15K seat sports arena that only sold 12 tickets in total. Seriously, I was one of the twelve - the *most professional band* hands-down! They performed entire set-list and encored us with six unreleased songs from their next album *Breakfast in America* . Oh, did I mention there were only 12 of us in attendance? Their live arena rock concerts are of studio quality sound too.

Entire recording is classic and never gets old. Try the title track, "Crime of the Century." It's an iconic piece that is fresh and well revered 50 years later. It's that good!

These guys were actual musicians in a musical band. Something rare.

Crime of the Century is epic, every track. Save the magic 'Rudy' till last.(unless you do whole album in order)

Their style of music was so original and exciting, they are catagorised as progressive rock but is that right, there are sure progressive rock aspects but i think they were a sort of cross-over band with two great singers whose voices differ so much making every album exciting. Although they created many great songs Fools overture is for me their magnum opus.
