Lairdframe owner here. I sent my frame back twice: when I first got it the seatstay bridge rubbed the tire! Mike paid for the shipping back to to him, removed the excess material, and sent it right back. Sure, I was bummed about the initial problem but his customer service on that was outstanding. Later, saw a hairline crack in the weld of the (integrated) seatpost clamp. This time I paid to ship it but he fixed it immediately. Actually he modified it for me by adding material for a traditional seatpost clamp, no charge, and sent it right back. Good to go! If I ever break this frame I’m going straight back to him.

Very interesting Brant, I have to say that the warranty wasn't really something I was worried about when I built my new bike just went on looks and geometry. And the only warranty issue that I ever faced was way back in the late nineties I had a DK frame that the paint flaked right off right out of the box and they didn't give two shits.

Great video, Brant! Super-informative! Sunday (Lifetime) is definitely the standout.
I remember YEARS ago when Hoffman were more popular, I was unimpressed with their warranty. Bent the George but the SD4 and Flash held up just fine.
This will be a bit long..
A warranty probably isn't something most will have to deal with on any frame or fork that comes with lifetime coverage but it's fantastic peace of mind that a company has such confidence in their products. Personally, I would never purchase or ride a frame that isn't 100% Chromoly and featuring a one-piece steerer tube on the fork. Feel like you only bend or snap one set of forks and then you have to move onto one-piece for the rest of your life for a mixture of confidence and safety.
Looking over 2021 complete bike releases, I see a lot of bikes featuring a Chromoly downtube or maybe the whole front triangle is Chromoly and I accept this in the cheaper to mid-range bikes. Though, I see some big names releasing bikes that have quite high price tags yet still feature a frame that isn't 100% Chromoly or surprisingly worse, is 100% yet comes with a 2-piece steerer tube fork.
May sound like I'm being overly picky but what I'm trying to point out at the end of all this is that you want to really look deep when considering a new ride. The cost, the warranty fine print, frame geometry, 100% Chromoly frame and 1-Piece steerer tube fork, large tyre clearance and internal chain tensioners. If an option, you may want to consider drive side if you grind on the same side as your sprocket. An extra $200-400 might make all the difference down the track.
Personally, I went with a 2020 coral red WTP Battleship at a quarter of the price off during a sale. It ticked all the boxes for me and is legitimately packed with parts you can feel confident and rely on.
    The end :P

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  3 года назад +2

Haha yep you’re 10000% right in all of that though. That’s why I refuse to recommend anything less than full chromoly completes to anyone on this channel. It’s just a waste of money to go less than that for someone who’s serious about learning to ride bmx.
A kid just riding around or who isn’t sure, sure

I almost feel like the Hoffman/Mongoose "lifetime" warranties are worse that all the one year warranties. I mean if they're not covered if you use them for leaving the floor or "stunting" then its just lip service at that point. Plus the added cheek of being able to say "lifetime warranty" which really sounds impressive and may convince people who dont look it to it. A scam basically.

Heard really nice reviews of FBM. The quality of these brands in my case, are the best and stand over time, so is a rare warranty claim. I would like to try BSD but i dont ride that much anymore.
About worst, well, Primo, Eastern, Federal was a disaster (at least in my country they have a representative and is really awful), in my experience. I guees in other countries are way better.
I liked your video, very complete and the information can help the "new" to choose quality and good service.

I own a Federal Churchill frame for almost 6 years now and have crashed several times and have abused it learning hop barspins and currently learning hop whips. I also own the last Cult OSv4 Trey Jones colorway when that released and it is taking the same abuse. When I got the Federal frame I was surprised to read the warranty card, as for the Cult frame not sure if the LBS misplaced the warranty card.
I trust any legit BMX company with the parts they make so I am not that worried, also BMX isn't really that expensive (if you look out for sales and good deals on marketplaces like ebay or facebook) even with my small income, I would be pissed if I won't get a good warranty if I was forking out for those high-end mountain bikes or road bikes.

I was pleasantly surprised by cult warranty on stem, salvation v4 in 46mm reach to be specific. After 2 years bottom of the stem started to crack, from the bolt holes to the center of the stem. I send it on warranty more for an experiment rather than hope of getting new stem. After 3 days I got information from a store I bought the stem in that they accepted warranty claim and I can pick up any stem that i want and they will deduct price of the cult stem from price of new stem. Pretty cool move. But their frame warranty is a joke, my friends frame cracked near chainstay bridge after 5 months and they basically said shit happens mate, we don’t approve this claim, go get a new one. @@Brant_Moore when people repaint the frame, they often remove the paint and raw the frame first. If this is not done correctly, the frame can rust under the new paint and corrode and possibly break due to material fatigue. Because of this, we take it on a case-by-case basis on repainted frames and forks, as sometimes its simply impossible to know if the frame or fork has been prepared before repainting. People are welcome to shoot us an email beforehand so we can inform them the best :)

I think the reason why they might not want you to repaint the bike is to one, they want to have to replace the least amount of frames as possible, and two, they don’t want anybody to try to hide any damage

I bet Bob Haro would hate that definition of riding without leaving the ground, I think his selling of the brand was a mistake.
And Matt Hoffman?, seriously dude?, you're the big air, first 900° no hander guy!, come on, I wanted to get a Hoffman so badly, he's my childhood hero, but not anymore. Looking for a Sunday then.
Also, the terms of these legalese warranties can tell you a lot of how they approach their manufacturing process, it wouldn't be weird to find a sketchy warranty followed in slightly worse materials to save a penny.

  • @Rxu844

Odyssey was my best experience with warranty’s. I’ve broken a few pairs of their cranks and they were super cool about it. My worst experience was with wethepeople when I broke my madmax frame i couldn’t get a hold of anyone and they never wrote me back. My experience with sandm was decent, when I bent my dak frame they offered me a new one at cost which is cool. I honestly don’t care about warranty’s. I buy a frame with the intention that it’s gonna get messed up and I love getting and trying out new frames from different companies. I would hate to ride the same frame or companies frames for my “lifetime”.

I do not believe all Sunday frames are lifetime, I think the street sweeper doesn’t qualify
I like the trade in idea tho, people change their riding preferences so much by the time something happens to their current frame, they may want something different anyway and in order to get it at a discount sounds pretty cool and creates good brand loyalty

its also only 1900 vs 2000 and probably alot more if you want removable gyro tabs cable guide and stop and brake mounts. also comes stock with ti brake hardware for the posts and bolts. rest is standard.
using one of the ti reapers on my next build same with the ti bars. ti laird forks RNC 22mm 165mm ti cranks freenight hub with custim ti driver and axle and a far east cycles ti internals alloy shell front hub.. gonna be pretty and light once i do the custom anodizing jobs on everything. also gonna have pegs and a gyro and a custom seat. clone of an aitken but modified a bit, so basically a junior but pviotal.
honestly how many people are used to a super light bike. better to actually go relatively standard with geo till youre used to shit and better to save money till you know certain things will survive. ti welds are notoriously iffy. manufacturing defect warranty on ti bits is useful. and they garuntee full weld penetration. its owned by an mtb and general bike manufacturer now that also runs some brands. not the same old Russian mig manufacturer turned bike manufacturer eastern originally used to make ti shit. and new owners and less holes.
