    Great video Zephan! Question - how do you use video or media clips from say RUclips? I called Black Magic support to discuss using the Hyperdeck with my ATEM Extreme as a media player. The rep I spoke with said that it's not a good solution for my setup as the Hyperdeck will only play video files that were recorded with the Hyperdeck in the proper CODEC. He said I would need to save the video, pull it into a video editing software, save the file as H.264 or H.265 and then export the file. He mentioned something about the BM software recognizing video clips from online sources such as YT as being pirated. Thanks in advance, your content is amazing! Cheers

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 года назад

      First, I typically wouldn't use clips from RUclips that are owned by other people. I also wouldn't want to rely on streaming a video from RUclips because that uses more internet bandwidth and for some people they'll need all they can get for streaming. With that said, you could download the videos from RUclips assuming you own them (downloading other's videos goes against the terms). Once you download the video clip simply throw it into Adobe Media Encoder or Apple's Compressor and just convert the clip to Apple Pro Res 422 and transfer it to the SD card for playback in the hyperdeck. It's not that Blackmagic won't recognize a video from RUclips, it's that you have to make sure every video clip on the card is set to the same format and codec AND you have to make sure the hyperdeck's recording setup is set to that codec as well.

    • @meetbraylon
      @meetbraylon 2 года назад

      @@zephanmoses Thank you for the prompt reply Zephan, I really appreciate it! I completely agree RE downloading other people's videos, unless of course you want to use a very small portion of someone else's video or content to make a point or to expand on a point made in the video AND you have that content creator's permission to use said portion of clip in your content. We are on the same page there. The process to download video clips and use Adobe or Apple to convert the clip and transfer to SD card for playback in the hyperdeck sounds straightforward. The BM rep I spoke with made the process and use of the hyperdeck sound more complex so I thought I would ask you. Cheers and thanks again!

    One more clarification please: do you have to connect a source *HDMI Input* to see the video (trough HDMI out) that is being played from SD card in the HyperDeck? I am trying to use the HyperDeck as a standalone clip player (without any plugged in source, and the clip to be played is stored in an SD card). HyperDeck's HDMI out is connected to a HDMI external display. When I press the play button on the HyperDeck, i can see that the video getting played from the small screen on the front panel), but no HDMI output. As soon as I connect something on the HDMI IN of HyperDeck, then video started showing on the external display. And when I unplug the HDMI In, then external display goes blank again. Have you faced similar issue?

    • @zephanmoses

      The hyperdeck should be able to play a clip from an SD card to the hdmi output with nothing else plugged in. Make sure you update your firmware and that you have a good hdmi cable.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 года назад

      Hey Curtis. Yep, you can put multiple videos on an SD card. Just make sure they're the same codec, format and framerate to ensure that it works along with setting the recording codec on the hyperdeck to being the same codec your video files are. So typically I convert everything to Apple Pro Res 422 LT (which is a Quicktime MOV file) and make them all 29.97 fps or whatever my livestream framerate will be. I recommend ordering your videos by placing a number at the beginning of each file name. Once you have it linked up with your ATEM you can use the blackmagic software control to choose which video plays.

      Hi Aixana, thanks for reaching out. My three best pieces of advice here are to 1) ensure that your hyperdeck is set to RECORD in the same codec in which you need your video to playback. 2) Make sure you are using the same codec, resolution and framerate for all videos on your SD card, not just one video - they should all be the same and 3) Make sure you are using one of the Blackmagic approved SD cards: www.coremicro.com/blog/blackmagic-hyperdeck-studio-mini-recommended-sd-cards
      If that does not work I highly recommending Blackmagic support as there is most likely something wrong with your unit.
