I had an 86 Si Black on Black 5 speed- new Michelins, Brakes, clutch, absolutely mint - I got it used with the idea of meeting my wife in 1992 - It worked and I met her 6 months later, married her after 3 months, and had a our first of 5 one year later - but now we did not need a sports car, but did need money to pay bills so I had to sell it. 10 years later after drooling over every Prelude that passed I got a mint 97 BMW 328is 5-speed and loved it. Drove it for 1 year and decided to sell it and my boat to adopt 2 of our boys from an orphanage in Haiti - Great decisions all but daddy missed his sporty cars. Now we are celebrating 30 years this December and all the kids have left the house - 2 weeks ago I got a great deal on a 243K mile but well kept 2013 Accord EX-L V6-6 speed for a great deal. Black on Black and let me tell you - I am 56 in two months and feel like I am in my 30s again, just much wiser. Great video - I am having so much fun watching it and can relate to what you are saying. 😊

Never had a Prelude but had two 6-6 Accords before, such an awesome sleeper. They are rare & harder to find now, the manual is geared very aggressively & when the v-tec kicks in at high RPM it's a lot of fun , damn I miss mine.. one thing it needed was a limited slip differential, the 2017 gen got one

I never thought about it but you're right. They just took away the "Super Handling".

Miss the prelude. Such a beautiful car for its time. Kind of had a body style of a GTR.

Thats one good looking car. I wouldn’t buy it for performance but I bet it’s a good car for comfort and style with bulletproof reliability

I would disagree only because the Accord never got 4WS, the Prelude never got a V6, and the Prelude simply got too thicc, decontented and expensive ultimately leading to its demise.
Regardless, the “6-6” is a great car because it is a great Honda and aside from the CTR, it exemplifies what is sorely missing from Honda’s lineup today no matter the comparison. (Prelude, Legend etc.)

Good points. I think the lack of 4WS in the Accord is because it's too complicated and unnecessary. Even the ATTS system which was novel brought very little benefit to cars thus equipped. In terms of V6 you're also right, but I'd argue that the V6 might have been the next step in the evolution of the Prelude. It's all conjecture anyway.

its literally getting the accord drivetrain so yeah...the new prelude will just be the accord hybrid coupe. I agree the accord coupe's pretty much took the place of the Prelude after the 5th gen. The only thing that changed was the accord coupe doesnt get tech updates like the Prelude did.

Sweet car and interesting observations! I just got the identical car but it's a 2014. It's a great car all around and I'm getting more comfortable with it every day. The engine is punchy!
    How many miles on yours?

      I didn’t hear you say 95/96. Sorry that’s my fault 😅

Nice comparison vid there, Thanks!! I have owned an 89 Prelude si, & still own my base/manual 01 5th gen here. Also owned an 07 V6 auto accord sedan, great car too. At one point I was thinking about trading in my Lude for a v6 sedan Manual. I wanted something just as fun, But more Stealth!! All my friends said "No, Keep the Lude, cooler, more rare!!" (At that time..) I would say that the 5th gen is the third gen on Steriods!! Modern lights, slightly wider, Much Quicker.. The base models weigh 2950 (about 80ish pds. less than the Sh models) & were a tad quicker in a straight line. Also the SH was like $2,300 more!! From what I have read over the years, Honda Purposely made the 5th gens to be a modern version of the 3rd gens (Which were the most sold/popular ludes..) after people said the 4th gens were to "Non Classic, Overstyled, Gimmicky dash etc.." I love the look of the 4th gens.
Also, the 5th gens were made in Japan & had specific tooling, therefore were very Expensive for the time. I have heard discussions that it should have been marketed as an Acura to justify the price, But they just came out with the tl/cl type S coupe line,so didn't make sense..
I have also heard that another reason that lead to the Preludes demise was, peeps wanted/needed a Bigger, More Usable, back seat & trunk especially for daily driving.
(I always say to myself, that my back seat is pretty much a waste, & I hate getting back there to condition the leather,Lol!!)
Another point, Honda only offered a dealer-aftermarket Leather option, to keep the cost down on the 5th gens.. The top model 4th gen Si & Vtec models, came with factory leather I believe.
Some people say they like the lighter, high reving nature of the dohc preludes, other peeps say they prefer the more powerful, torqueier, V6 accords..(Like you also referenced, I also feel that in Todays World with bigger cars in general, I think people most definitely prefer a Bigger, Heavier Easier, more powerful V6 in Auto only!!😑
Bottom line "Both were/are Great Cars, at different times!!

My v6 had an oil consumption issue. Every other gas fill up the dipstick was as dry as a bone. I loved the way it drove, but........
