I think these features must be enough for any GBA game to be S tier.
As somebody who just got back after years and years of not even looking at Pokémon rom hacks, that light platinum take was not just a surprise but it hurt quite a bit...
Light Platinum did indeed age like milk, but the cheese is still fun after all those years. Personally still think that Light Platinum is still a good baseline that you need to exceed if you want to have a good romhack
Lol 33 pokémon came out when I was either six or eight. I think I was eight. I have been a fan ever since that a die hard fan. I'll admit I got tired of the game formulas but I would always buy them and play them just because I want it to see and learn all the new pokémon and there is so many things they should have done to improve the game over the years. It's like they are afraid to try something new or stray too far from the formula to make a better product. I'll admit pokémon Legends like reignited my excitement for the games. It was the first pokémon game that actually made me want to catch all the pokémon because of the catching mechanic. I just wish legends had the complexity of the main line games for the battle system
I love Inclement Emerald its additions are amazing, sprites are pretty perfect, new areas, updated Pokémon features, new mega Pokémon, and doesn’t take away from standard Pokémon Emerald.

I much prefer the fan game "The First Journey," which offers a much deeper exploration of the foundation of kanto
Great video. Best I've found on the subject, out of the 2 I watched. I'm 37, and my first Pokemon was Red in 1998. I kind of peetered out around gen 4. Pokemon Go got me back in, but I don't want to give Nintendo money with how litigious they're. I just got started on Rom hacks. The first one I tried was dark rising, which was less than ideal. The next one I tried was Unbound, which has been a blast. The fight where you're surprised by the Houndoom after you think you've won is my favorite, so far. I thought it was unfair, but I just needed to use the grinding house a bit. It's been forever since I've agonized over a team comp. I think I'm going to shoot for Tyranitar, Alolan Marowak, Lucario, Serperior, Jynx, and Pelipper. After Unbound, I think I'm goin to do Fire Red Rocket Edition, then Crystal Clear. Thanks for making such a concise breakdown of the factors that formed your opinion. It's so much better than references meant for people that have already played them, or comparing them to each other, at least for me
Likewise I dropped out after 3rd edition, the formula just became to stale, my first is rocket edition I would highly recommend it, story was excellent and I loved seeing the perspective from the other side!
I really love ROWE, one of my favorite hacks of all time, they are even adding the Seville Islands and Kanto, but they updated it recently and removed every pokemon’s cry for more file space… it’s dead now
I'm thinking of getting my brother Cosmic Emerald for Christmas as a gamecard. I'm not familiar with rom hacks at all but I liked the idea of a slightly upgraded emerald game that he could play on his gameboy. Would you recommend I get it or choose a different one?

Orange looks pretty good from what I've seen. Not the same as Orange Islands btw (Tho its the same concept). The one I'm referring to is a Crystal hack that takes the Yellow approach of loosely basing it off of the anime but not actually following it exactly. The most recent version goes into post-game, tho it's currently being rebuilt from the ground up. Haven't really gotten around to playing it yet, but it looks amazing (And so does what we've seen of the new version so far). :) Also Coral. Pokemon Adventure Red my man. Nothing beats playing the True and Original Pokemon Story, The Manga...for the most part. Ash is not really canon here and it features a little bit of every other Region in The Pokemon World.

Can't judge Light Platinum, even without cheats, my brother just get stuck on the intro cutscene and then other time the game simple freeze on a Giratina's cutscene out of nowhere deleting his save file... Probable the worst rom hack we played in life (except by "Pokemon My As$"). The graphics don't aged well even with updates, and its seens they NEVER balanced the Wild Pokemon rate and level, making it kinda funny more hard then Radical Red at the start of the game, making you losing money on the game that not let you buy Pokeballs, and yeah, that will take a LONG TIME to you know HOW THE F#$# get the damn Pokeballs in that game...
Firered Rocket Edition! Like he said in the video, the story is incredible (although it will definitely hit much better for you if you played the original red/blue games before). Difficulty of it is not really different to official games, if anything it might be slightly easier. Pokemon Gaia also has a good story (although I haven't finished playing it yet), and isn't very difficult. Of all the rom hacks I've played which have new regions, it's definitely the closest to an official Pokemon game in terms of the overall experience of playing it. I haven't played too many others tbh, certainly not nearly as many as the number in this tier list, but I did also enjoy blazed glazed (just blazed with minor quality updates) quite a lot, but it's a very long game and I didn't complete all of the post game.
Just played Pokémon Gaia and it was cool as fuck. MEGAS gen 6 I had all my favs on my team before I challenged the elite four, I do wish the Pokémon evo changes weren’t as different but that’s a bias opinion. Light platinum is also cool as fuck with the updated graphics as well as being the first rom hack I’ve ever played, can’t wait for light platinum DS with up to GEN7 Pokémon and Megas as well.
Imo Glazed is the goat during its era. Idk for now since unbound and r.red is present Unbound, Idk how tf did they made everything from scratch of firered. Everything is perfect from the last bit of minute details, graphics gameplay, audio, difficulty. The ai is not dogshit, its bullshit. It can predict almost everything you're gonna throw at it. Probable the worst rom hack we played in life (except by "Pokemon My As$"). The graphics don't aged well even with updates, and its seens they NEVER balanced the Wild Pokemon rate and level, making it kinda funny more hard then Radical Red at the start of the game, making you losing money on the game that not let you buy Pokeballs, and yeah, that will take a LONG TIME to you know HOW THE F#$# get the damn Pokeballs in that game...
do you have any suggestions for a rom hack that has a really good story. Im not looking for really hard difficulty.
Where are Insurgence and Uranium?
Can i transfer pokemons from Unbound to FireRed rocket edition?
Where can you get these games digital for steamdeck? Thanks
The only romhack i played here was radical red and i love really hard to beat games so i put it in S no doubt
Putting Pokémon Dreams in C Tier is F***ing insane
Why
@@JarlBarbossa cuz it’s phenomenal
Pokemon Unbound is the best pokemon game i ever played. Been playing pokemon since Gen 2.
How is Insurgence not on this list?
Bruh Emerald Enhanced on B? Its the most Full (feature) in Emerald rom hack
And shortly after drops pkmn Crown, which is S+ tier
Fire Ash not here?
Just played Pokémon Gaia and it was cool as fuck. MEGAS gen 6 I had all my favs on my team before I challenged the elite four, I do wish the Pokémon evo changes weren’t as different but that’s a bias opinion. Light platinum is also cool as fuck with the updated graphics as well as being the first rom hack I’ve ever played, can’t wait for light platinum DS with up to GEN7 Pokémon and Megas as well.
Imo Glazed is the goat during its era. Idk for now since unbound and r.red is present
Unbound, Idk how tf did they made everything from scratch of firered. Everything is perfect from the last bit of minute details, graphics gameplay, audio, difficulty. The ai is not dogshit, its bullshit. It can predict almost everything you're gonna throw at it. It takes a lot of fuqin time to EV train a team on a fight for it to just get wiped and prepare another set until you beat a boss or a gymleader. Im still currently dying on insane tho im trying to get 5 star trainer card. Im currently on 2 star.
On radical red, I heard it was on par or more or less better than unbound. I haven't tried it cause the unbound has the upperhand on the graphics and im still working on unbound.
