The problem is that in Germany every small town wants an ICE stop, because every local administration thinks that their town would be so special and important for the world. This means you have very short distances between the stations which makes it uneconomical to accelerate to 300 km/h and slowing down already after a few minutes. Between Munich and Berlin you have also "ICE Sprinter" trains operated by ICE 3. They only stop in Nuremberg, Erfurt and Halle, what makes it possible for them to run with 300 km/h.

I don't see much of a problem in the network; Sometimes even smaller places are connected to HSR purely for the fact of their location, not due to the size of the place; Thus the only 13k inhabitants counting town of Plattling is connected to ICE HSR, while the 120k inhabitants counting nearby city of Deggendorf isn't connected, as it's simply on the wrong side of the river, with the through-going track being on the other side. On many routes there's a shared track concept combining all sorts of trains, from HSR to freight trains, from international to local commuter trains; Of course HSR won't be at actual high speed there
I am from India and I love trains crazily....exploring Europe by trains is my dream....your journey videos squeez my heart to have such ride...Wish one day soon I will be there somewhere inside the train having window views at fast running ICE ❤️🇮🇳
Start in London. Take the Eurostar to Paris, then the Thalys to either Brussels or Amsterdam and from there take the ICE to Frankfurt am Main and from there to either Berlin or Munich. Some of the best trains in Europe while visiting the most exciting cities at the same time
Great idea, but don't forget to include Italy in your list! Both the Frecciarossa as well as the Italo are great trains and Italy has probably the best High Speed Rail network in Europe. Spend the extra money on first class and you will have the train experience of your life. And I'm saying this as a german who frequently travels on ICE and TGV. Nothing beats the Italian products though.
@@socke2745 Then went with the list of Jim Heeren and drive from Munich over Austria to Italy with the ÖBB Nightjet, which is a great and modern train.
Funny enough, in pre-Corona times DB was saying the delays were mostly due to overload of the whole system: to many trains for the existing infrastructure. Now they have reduced the number of trains... but they are still coming late!
yeah but then they want twice the money just for doing right .... what you could refer to is DR reichsbahn from the pre war/nazi era ... 230 000 and more employees run like the prussian army back in those days
Funny that here in Italy most people make fun of Trenitalia (our national train company) like there in Germany seems that you make fun of DB,expecially elder italian people are convinced that DB trains are like japanese trains that doesn't do delays ecc. just because is Germany so its all perfect for them. I think that both Trenitalia and DB are good even if sometimes they have delays, and then it doesn't exist a perfect train company, probably only japanese are capable to arrive perfect in time like a Swiss clock.
Germany has very few segments of lines for speeds greater than 250 km/h, less than 1.000km. It possibilites to use less powerful stock and increase savings. For example, series capable of 300 km/h (406 and 407) spend more time at max speed outside of Germany (in LGV Est to Paris) than inside.
@@NonstopEurotrip The reason for that s that Germany has, in contrast to for example France, many bigger cities relatively close to each other. This means more frequent stops resulting in less time a train can travel at top speed of 300km/h. Therefore, most HSL are "only" equipped for 250 or 280 km/h.
250 km/h are enough, most distances between stops are below 100km (on Munich-Nürnberg only 80km are for 300km/h), so 300km/h don't make sense, it only uses more electric energy wich became horribly expensive in Germany the last few years. One more point is the competition. The low-cost bus system is successful with 100 km/h max-speed. So, lower fares thanks to a lower energy consumption are more important in competition than 2 minutes less travel time from Munich to Nürnberg.
Munich Berlin is the route with the most 300 kmh sections more than 45% it is one of the inland routes where 300kmh trains would be worth it on all services
An absolutely fantastic and informative video. As an Englishman I think Germany has the most beautiful and interesting trains. Happy to see Erfurt where I spent a year as a student)
I'm bias on this one. My first ever trip on a train was on an ICE2 in 2008. My first ever trip to Europe. I felt in love, of course. After that I had the opportunity to use several other trains, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland but the ICE was always in my heart. After living there and not visiting, the Regional Banh was my daily driver and I also love them. Single deck, double deckers, diesel or electric. I bought for my kids (🤔😁) the miniatures from Marklin. So, again, I'm bias... 🤣🤣🤣
Mate, back in 2019 my son and I enjoyed our trips from Berlin to Cologne, a day trip between Cologne and Amsterdam and then finally from Cologne to Frankfurt airport. We travelled in 1 Klasse and appreciated the “at seat” food/drink service and the seating comfort. Looking froward to revisiting Deutschland once this bloody pandemic is under control/over. Tschuess aus Australien.
@@TheMrFabian1 Not true. The ICE4 is built according to DB demands and the DB itself decided on a lower top speed. The ICE4 is perfectly capable of reaching higher speeds, its just soft limited.
Considering the vast majority of Egypt's population lives along the Nile, it is prime grounds for a dense high speed rail system. Hope it works out well 😍
I just recently got to make a two-way trip in the ICE 4 going from Hannover to Karlsruhe and back. This was actually my first time riding an ICE 4. It was very interesting for a number of reasons: - I also haven't been in an ICE 3 since the interior redesign in 2016 (it is now virtually the same as the ICE 4), so it was the first time I got to see that. Beyond what is said in the video, I really like the ceiling monitors that are easily visible from every seat, especially because they also occasionally show the current speed and position. - On the trip there, I got to sit in a new seat, but on the return trip, it was an old one. For those who don't know: After the redesigned (and ICE 4) interior was introduced, many people complained about uncomfortable seats, so the DB actually redesigned them and is rolling out new trains with the new design and upgrading ICE 3s and older ICE 4s on a per-car basis at regular inspections. I agree both with the verdict that the old seats aren't all that comfortable, but also with the notion that the new design perfectly addresses and eliminates the issue. In the video, I'm pretty sure it's a train entirely featuring the new design, and it really is perfectly comfortable. - On the trip there, there was ultimately a small, but acceptable delay. On the trip back, however, we originally had an 8 minute delay, then had to go on the regional rather than the high speed track for a bit, during which we somehow got the delay below 5 minutes _(even though the DB Navigator app said to expect _*_15 minutes of additional delay),_* and when we arrived in Hannover, we were *20 seconds early!* I still don't understand how this is possible, apparently the ICE 4 has a quantum device on board that can break a hole into the space-time continuum or something. Oh, and as for why I was going to Karlsruhe, I was there for a psychological and medical evaluation. I passed, and will start my apprenticeship as a train driver for the DB Fernverkehr AG this September.
I would agree with everything you've said! It wouldn't be an ICE service if it wasn't at least a little bit late, would it? Good luck with the new job! 🙏🏻😊
Hi, great review! ICE4s were developed to not compete with ICE3s running mostly on a full HS railways but instead to provide an upgrade to current 200 km/h IC sets consisting of rather older coaches (that Regiojet will most probably buy.. haha). The ICE4s were built this way to keep the operational and service costs lower, the overall cost was also lowered resulting in a cheaper plastic materials often used in the interior. I must say that considering all the savings, these trains still look great inside and outside but I don't find them comfortable at all (I'm used to our Czech Pendolinos).
@@NonstopEurotrip DB actually bought 300kmh Trains aswell, starting Service 2022 or so. The ICE 4 are supposed to get a speed increase at some point aswell
@@samanli-tw3id in fact almost the entire station including its wing stations and an underground through station will be rebuilt. Only the massive platform hall remains, but will be renovated.
@@koenigsolomon as with all big projects in Germany the end date is fluent - can be 2028, 2032 or 2034. Just got back from 12 days in Germany where we took 4 ICE trains, and I, honestly, loved the experience. Some of the rides are long, but they are much more comfortable than a plane ride so it was fine. Being able to get from Hamburg to Berlin in about an hour and forty-five minutes was incredible. If you are from outside of Germany I really suggest the German Rail Pass. My wife and I got the German Rail Twin pass for four seperate days of travel for around $415 dollars. You can get it online, but it only took us about 5 minutes to get it in the Frankfurt Airport. This pass allowed us to get on any train on those days, and it really saved us quite a bit of money as many of the trips we took would have cost 200 Euro per person each. I would highly suggest Americans, or people who come from other places with limited train access, to really look into riding these as opposed to renting a car.
The regular price for an ICE trip from Munich to Berlin is 139.60 euros. If you book at least 3 days in advance, you can buy cheaper tickets than reagular. Depending on how high the previous booking status of the train is. Early in the morning and late in the evening, the trains are less booked. My absolute best price from Berlin to Munich was € 22.43 with a BahnCard 25% discount and I bought 4 months earlier.
@@NonstopEurotrip But the the savings tickets have a catch. They are for a explicid certain train conncetion and can´t be used for eg a later train. They can also not be given back if the journey is cancelled or postponed.
Amazing trip...! Awesome train, incredible quietness inside First Class, you can only hear the air conditioning and a child screaming back there, cool...!! Leipzig Dome is so wonderful, they did it to last for forever, and what to say about Berlin Hbf is just fantastic..!
Thanks for the vid! Good video quality! Normally it's the tracks that prevent a truly high-speed, but for the ICE4, the design speed was always 250 km/h. So this time, it's really the train. 300km/h is reserved for the ICE3 still (which it actually reaches on the Munich-Berlin destination)
The ICE 3 is used for "real" high-speed lines and the ICE 4 is sort of the workhorse of DB. But as there are now more high-speed lines planned and DB is committing to the "Deutschlandtakt" which will require increased speed they are apparently licensing the ICE4s to run at 265 km/h and buy more ICE3s.
I am American now I love this it is so interesting thank you I always had a fascination with trains /I am originally from Munich born there the Hauptbahnhof holds memories for me .you did a great job to show it .
8:03 Hah! I remember driving on that motorway with my company BMW, thinking "There you go, you are doing 190 kph on the autobahn and still someone is going to pass on the right. Bloody ICE!"
Very nice! You reminded me my trip to Germany in 2019. I just made the opposite travel. I went from Berlin to Munich in 2019. And your video was recorded the same day of my birthday. Thank you!!! Daniel from Rio de Janeiro.
Well on that route the top speed of the line is even 300 km/h for most of the way but DB decided that it's more economical to buy trains that only go 250 km/h cause most of the german high speed network only allows speeds up to 250 km/h. But as they also recognized that 250 is a bit slow on some lines, these trains are currently being upgraded to reach speeds of 265 km/h, also they are going to buy more train sets of modernized version of the class 407 ICE, which has a top speed of 320 km/h, for the use on faster lines.
Two years ago I’ve travelled by ICE train Frankfurt-Düsseldorf-Frankfurt, I’ve arrived to my destination in 1,5 hours, it was the fastest train I’ve ever seen. I also miss traveling 😭😭😭

@@NonstopEurotrip Hi ! Yes, I was sure you were going to tell me that !! It's that when I watched the videos that day, I was very (very) tired and I still am ... Otherwise, yes of course, your videos always make me very happy. Just, hey, by the way, how do we make smileys like you do here?
And the real one, finally the comment I wanted to say is the following: it is true that it is a little heavy trips of more than 4 hours without restaurant, but with the coronavirus, we do what we can ... everyone is suffering. Otherwise, most of the time, I always eat before leaving and / or eat upon arrival. Thanks to you !!!
I miss my frelly traveling experiences :( The last trip I made was to Amsterdam and Coppenhagen in Septemper 2019. I was planing actually to go to Thailand and South Korea in 2020 but....you all know the story....
A well made and enjoyable video. I have travelled on the DB Ice strain from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, the journey time was around 4 hours and so it was a fast and efficient service.
Great video, I miss travelling! In my view, the extra price for the 1st Class is totally worth! Last time I travelled with an ICE from Berlin to Frankfurt, the 2nd class was so packed full of people that I was happy to have paid some 25 Euros more for the 1st Class. You can select a quiet seat where talking on the phone is not allowed, this is perfect for the early morning Sprinter!
I put my comments on the Berlin-Munich journey by mistake. I watched this video because I wanted to re-experience the journey I had made in 2005, hoping to re-visit all those places, but this video disappointed me AND delighted me. Disappointed because the train didn’t go via Göttingen, Braunschweig, Magdeburg etc all, but went through Thuringia, via Erfurt and Leipzig! That delighted me, too, I got to see new places!
You know you travel a route way too much when you recognize every single scene in a Tripreport lol! Munich - Berlin is by far the route I use the most (usually one round trip every 2 months), and since 2019 the ICE4 is the train type I use the most! And I actually like the ICE4’s and don’t understand why they get so much hate. Of course it would be nice if they were faster, but I think they are reliable and comfortable. The ICE4 wasn’t built to be faster because most routes in Germany only allow speeds up to 230 or 250 km/h. Also energy consumption increases dramatically when reaching speeds around 300 km/h, and the time saved is less worth than the extra cost of energy, at least that’s what DB said. Also the certification process was faster/easier to do. But DB realized that it would be nice if the ICE4’s would be a bit faster, and therefore they will get an upgrade to 265 km/h soon (that’s the fastest they can go without changing parts). Are you traveling in Germany so often that the BahnCard 25 is worth it? :O Btw as a recommendation, if you are younger than 28, you can use a so-called Sommerticket during the summer months. It costs 90€ and allows you to do 4 trips across all of Germany. Usually it was a paper ticket where you write the date and from/to on it (so completely flexible, you were allowed to take any ICE or IC train on that route on that day). Unfortunately thanks to Covid you had to pre-select your train online in 2020 though, so not so flexible anymore. Side note: The Meridian was rebranded to BRB (Bayrische Regiobahn) last year, which also includes the former BOB services south of Munich. edit: typo
@@NonstopEurotrip no worries! Thanks for the video btw, I got so excited and happy watching a tripreport about my number 1 key route! :D I actually didn’t know a 3-month BC25 exists :O
I’ve done this trip the other way around in 2007, that was, 14 years ago 🥺 After arriving at München, I switched to a slower train to see Mozart. The next day was the Sound of Music tour...
The original ICE already featured the white paint with the red "rally stripe". Nice to see that they're still being painted like that, looks really good.
I got admission in Tu llmenau Nd I never been to Germany before. Gonna watch all your videos to know about ICE. My first ICE route is going to be Frankfurt to Erfurt 😍🤩 in September.
You haven't experienced a real delay with DB until they cancel your train and leave you stranded in Fulda, an anonymous small sized city in the middle of Germany!
@@NonstopEurotrip it's because of the coronavirus. Trains have less delays cause fewer passengers who may block doors or do other stupid stuff. Also the stops at stations can be too short for the amount of passengers to get off and on. In Germany it's usually 2 minutes, in France 3 minutes.
@@NonstopEurotrip ICEs tend to be more on time because they have a higher priority, there is a pretty interesting lecture on RUclips (in german unfortunately) that analyzes data about DB its called "36C3 - BahnMining - Pünktlichkeit ist eine Zier" 😂
You will not be left stranded. At least not in the sense of being left to your fate. DB will book you into a hotel (with complimentary breakfast to boot!) at no cost. If a taxi ride will not get you to your destination. Had it happen to me more times than I like to remember. On one occasion they intended to send me and two other travellers by taxi cab from Hanover to Bonn. More than 320km! I rejected that torture because I wanted to ride in a safe train and not an automobile with whomever as driver. So I spent the night at a good hotel, had breakfast the next morning and took a train of my choice for the remainder of my journey all on DB. If your schedule allows it I would recommend that option all the time.
Well i have beeb stranded once in a dead town called Brugg in Switzerland enroute back to Zurich. Someone committed suicide on the tracks and we were all left off at Brugg and i had a flight to catch in 4 hours fron Zurich airport. The anxiety, stress and pressure was immense!
Hello and thank you for posting this video It looks amazing i never traveled on such trains and only saw them in the movies I also have a message to Europeans anyone wishing to travel to Melbourne Australia and expierience train travel don't you will be disappointed the rail network is very backward unstable and dangerous at times 👍
I agree, mate) I love the Sapsan from Moscow to St.Petes. I booked first/business class and i was shocked that i could ask for as much booze as i wanted) Love Russian trains. In England ours are shit (
I really need to get a trip to Europe dedicated in the books. It's long overdue. I'm really hoping that by the second half of summer (July/August), it will be open for foreign tourists and I can come visit and ride these trains! Very nice video!
I guess the major difference between 1st and 2nd class is the separation from crying kids, overwhelmed moms, and smurfs who have their "Geldbeutel vergessen" like the lady at the beginning of your video 😛.
Yes. Thats why i advocate to reintroduce third class. So the noisy and primitive plebs who pride themselves to save 10 euros on a 400 mile trip can stay among themselves. Yes, i would make 3rd class just 10 euros cheaper, to see who is greedy enough to accept no comfort whatsoever for a 10 euro deduction. No seats, only standing. No windows. The children will run around all the time anyways, and there are no tables or seats for „Geldbeute vergessen“ scenarios! Hahahaha!
I will never forget when we traveled First Class in an ICE when I was four. People always passed by us, and the whole wagon was empty, even though we didn’t scream or made any noise. It was so nice haveing so much space lol
There's also one ICE 3 (funnily enough the one named after my hometown) where the entire stripe is in green, and it was the first to feature green starting a few years back.
Two comments to this nice video: The IC2 set at Nuremberg is the latest version with one of the new Bombardier TRAXX locomotives that can also be used in Switzerland. The IC2 sets at Leipzig are from the first version which had just been enhanced train sets based on the overall used regional train sets. The ICE 4 is built from Bombardier and Siemens. Siemens coaches are the one with the electric drive. The non driven coaches are from Bombardier. They can already be identified from the different outside experience. ICE 4 was built to take over the former ICE 1 courses. From the ICE 3 trains had been the class 406 and 407 in the video. Class 406 was originally developed for DB. While class 407 is the latest development of Siemens Velaro trains which are based on class 406 but already have some updates regarding technical aspects and higher speed.
I love to travel with the DB trains specially the ice they are very comfy and relax! over 4 months and 2 weeks I going to travel again trough Europe I cant wait!! I like your videos they are very helping to get an idea of the German ice trains and for me it brings good memories
Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Milano Centrale, even though originating from two different eras, are - in my humble opinion - the two most attractive train stations in Europe.
Train travel across Europe is always a pleasure. Especially on DB. Your video is wonderful and took me back to my travel experience. Liked the way you have covered.

I prefer the trains in Romania and Bulgaria, where they amble along at a leisurely speed and you have time to take in the beautiful countryside............and the buffet on one train was a guard carrying a plastic bucket with a few cans of drink and some packets of biscuits.😊
I did only one trip on an ICE 4, from Ravensburg in the South up to Koblenz on the River Rhine. As far as I remember, there was only a stretch of real high speed line, between Stuttgart and Mannheim. This being a rather long journey, I treated myself to first class. I found the seats very comfy and the ride smooth. The only annoying part was the constant noise of cutlery out of the kitchen as I had the compartment adjacent to the restaurant section.
The ICE 3 does have a top speed of 330 km/h, but it never really goes there for safety reasons, and for economical reasons. In the ICE 4 I guess they decided that since the trains never really went above 250, why add all the extra more powerful motors to get there if it really isn't used.
The long tunnel segment before arriving in Erfurt goes under the Thuringian Forest, which is protected and also quite hilly. It was the last segment to be finished for the line. I vaguely remember the public debate, the usual cost vs. protecting the environment. There were people even speaking out against building tunnels, because of fear ground water necessary for the forest could be affected. Erfurt is well worth a visit. The old town has lots of half-timbered houses and is rather picturesque.
Just a quick info regarding the Flirt 3 you labelled as a Meridian train: the brand Meridian doesn't exist anymore. Since mid-2020 the Bayerische Oberlandbahn, which ran Meridian, has rebranded all their trains to BRB (Bayerische Regiobahn), which is another private operator owned by Transdev. I think DB decided for the ICE 4 to have a lower maximum speed because of the very few parts of the German rail network that actually allow for speeds faster than that. Plus, as far as I know, the ICE 4 was originally intended to replace the old Intercity trainsets, but somehow ended up being used for the new ICE.
Much of the section between Petershausen & Ingolstadt is the standard main line out of Munich along the Munich-Ingolstadt railway line... as such will have to share trackage paths with freight & local regional services. Track speed limits here are as low as 160km/h because this section of the NBS (neubaustrecke) or high speed line has not been built yet. Between Munich & Petershausen there is HSR, but, none between Petershausen and Ingolstadt. After then the HSR / NBS resumes. Line speeds on the NBS sections are 300km/h. However, ICE4s, can only do either 250km/h or 265km/h (13-car set). I assume it is because that DB intends to keep the ICE 3s (Baureihe 403, 406 / 407) as the dedicated 300km/h services, running non-stop, whereas ICE 4s will stop at a few more stations, and as someone commented earlier, these are replacing formerly loco-hauled RegioCity or InterCity sets that now have ICE 4 EMUs operating them. EMUs are a safe choice for more rapid acceleration and able to climb steeper gradients, but lower higher speed, as the traction motors are spread out evenly across the train, anywhere between 12 and 16 powered axles (2 axles per bogie, 2 bogies per car), compared to loco-hauld where it is 4 axles (2 bogies) at each power car (so a total of 8 axles). An example of this would be to watch one of the train driver cab view videos of both an ICE 3 and a ICE 1 or ICE 2 on the tunnel climb from Nurnburg to Ingolstadt, heading south.
awesome trip report i admire the ICE trains very modern long and modern and also the dining car Munich looks like a great city but especially berlin with many attractions and the huge central station one of my favourites in the whole world i also want to go Germany myself also when the time is right
In December, I took the ICE 3 from Amsterdam Centraal to Zurich HB. The ICE3 took us to Mannheim where we switched to an ICE4 that rode all the way to Zurich HB. It is still the best long distance train I have ever done, also the longest at 8 hours. The cabin in the ICE4 is nice, but the seats of the ICE3, well, the 1st class seats for me were more comfortable. The restaurant onboard is terrific as well. You should try NL - DE ICE services, you'd be surprised how great they are.
@@burgerpommes2001 Yes, I believe the seats on the ICE4 are the new ones. The ICE 3 seats are really comfy tho. The design is slim but the padding is great and the recline is gorgeous.
i can also recommend the ICE 3 sprinter trains between Munich and Berlin. They are the fastest option on this long distance because they stop only on the main stations and are the only ones what reach the 300 km/h. PS: Munich main station is actually under construction for next few years. In Munich is since December 2020 a new good connection to Zurich with the ETR 610 Astoro tild train as ECE (Euro city express) what makes it possible now to travel with high quality trains between Hamburg or Berlin and Roma (Hamburg / Berlin - ICE3 or 4 - Munich - ECE - Zurich - Giruno trough Gotthard and mont ceneri base tunnels - Milano - Frecciarossa 1000 - Roma
Germany looks so pristine and pretty, clean and efficient. I'm a little surprised that this service seems under utilized, perhaps the world virus alert in action... I was a train driver in Southern Africa years ago, old world railway with beautiful coaches finished in teak and mahogany, and the smell of coffee and leather seats. The dining cars were things of style and luxury (have a look at Rovos Rail on RUclips). Getting to the destination in a hurry was not the intention, the pleasure of the journey was. There was also the ordinary commuter travel of course. I loved the contrast of scenery - wide open spaces, lines hugging the coastline, slow and curved lines winding through the hills, if only we have good digital cameras and recorders in those days. Some trips, especially from the inland to the coast could mean you started on electric units, changed to steam or diesel and back to electric, not highly efficient but rather romantic. We sometimes hauled goods only, quite a different driving style to the gentle controls required to keep the drinks from spilling on passengers...

Tip: when travelling in Germany, you can get excellent first class deals by booking ahead. That said, on many trains, there is more room at table seats, and reservations can sometimes restrict you to a seat when a better one is available. Irrespective of ticket, if the train is busy and there is not much spare room, it is sometimes pleasant to sit in the restaurant car and chat to others, though you will be expected to be eating/drinking whilst so doing.

I’m an American and I really enjoyed this. Once the pandemic ends, I’ll visit Europe and ride ICE, Thalys, and the TGV.
Excellent, you'll have a great time! 👌🏻😃
Thalys is very nice. The seats are so comfortable. And they speak in english, french, dutch and german.
Senk ju for travelling wis deutsche bahn! Imagine using DB and being on time with no delay
I know! Crazy right LOL
That wouldn't count as the true DB experience, man.
Yeah that's what I thought, but wasn't sure 🙂
About 5 trains a day run between Munich and Berlin using a ICE 3 train with a top speed of 300 km/h and a travel time of just 3h 55 min.
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the comment! 😁

trains in England are not the best in the world??
@@barhat961 You're in for a shock then, British trains are pure trash compared to German trains
Since you are in Germany, try visiting AACHEN. The 3 border mark. Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
I admit I do like DB too ☺️ I have the 3 borders on my to-do list 👌🏻
Mate, back in 2019 my son and I enjoyed our trips from Berlin to Cologne, a day trip between Cologne and Amsterdam and then finally from Cologne to Frankfurt airport. We'll acquire ICE 3 in Egypt in a couple years, we're building the rails now, hope u come and try it soon 😊
Sounds great!
That's great. DB actually ordered ICE 3 after introducing ICE 4 because the newer gen turned out to be too slow.
It was very interesting for a number of reasons:
- I also haven't been in an ICE 3 since the interior redesign in 2016 (it is now virtually the same as the ICE 4), so it was the first time I got to see that.
Makes sense really, why have a 300kmh train when you can save money by having a 250kmh train 😅
@@NonstopEurotrip DB actually bought 300kmh Trains aswell, starting Service 2022 or so. The ICE 4 are supposed to get a speed increase at some point aswell

Just wanted to add that Munich central is currently under full reconstruction, which is why everything is a bit old and messy at the moment.
Yes, this is very true 🚧🦺🔨
Only the front facade is being reconstructed, the platforms and tracks are still the same.

Since the rebuilding of the concourse is closely connected to the construction of the 2nd S-Bahn trunk line, the stations appearance is heavyly depending on the progress of this tunnelling project.
I completely agree, but it's your fellow Americans you probably need to see it too 🙃
The regular price for an ICE trip from Munich to Berlin is 139.60 euros.
Wow that's a very good price! 👌🏻 Normally yes, very expensive! 😲
@@NonstopEurotrip But the the savings tickets have a catch. They are for a explicid certain train conncetion and can´t be used for eg a later train. They can also not be given back if the journey is cancelled or postponed.

ICE3s (300km) are used on high speed lines such as Frankfurt Airport to Koln.
This one drives the new SFS to Erfurt, but stops a lot before and after, so they use ICE4
Köln, with Ö
Thanks for the vid! Good video quality! Normally it's the tracks that prevent a truly high-speed, but for the ICE4, the design speed was always 250 km/h. So this time, it's really the train. 300km/h is reserved for the ICE3 still (which it actually reaches on the Munich-Berlin destination)
Yeah I would have taken the ICE3 sprinter, but wanted to try the ICE4 🙂🇩🇪
The first day I used Ice was on Christmas while going to visit my Oma in Magdeburg. It was the best experience.. I loved it
Thanks for watching! 😃🇩🇪
Appreciate your sharing ..i loved the Berlin station and the trains. Top Notch !
😍😍
The ICE 3 is used for "real" high-speed lines and the ICE 4 is sort of the workhorse of DB. But as there are now more high-speed lines planned and DB is committing to the "Deutschlandtakt" which will require increased speed they are apparently licensing the ICE4s to run at 265 km/h and buy more ICE3s.
Ah that's nice to know, thanks! 👌🏻

DB is one of my favorites, especially the High Speed Train Köln Frankfurt crossing the Taunus Mountains at 300km
Amazing trip! 😁
I loved my last ICE trip from Hamburg to Basel. The sit down dining was an absolute favourite feature after a night on the train.
Yeah I totally agree! Eating in a full restaurant bar 250kmh+ is amazing 😁🙏🏻👍🏻
Ahh interesting, thanks! ☺️👍🏻

Btw as a recommendation, if you are younger than 28, you can use a so-called Sommerticket during the summer months.
Side note: The Meridian was rebranded to BRB (Bayrische Regiobahn) last year, which also includes the former BOB services south of Munich.
edit: typo

You haven't experienced a real delay with DB until they cancel your train and leave you stranded in Fulda, an anonymous small sized city in the middle of Germany!
I've been lucky with the 6 or so ICEs I've taken have all been on time. But I did see one that was about 4 hours late on a departure board last year 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip it's because of the coronavirus.

No windows. Two comments to this nice video:
The IC2 set at Nuremberg is the latest version with one of the new Bombardier TRAXX locomotives that can also be used in Switzerland.

The ICE 3 does have a top speed of 330 km/h, but it never really goes there for safety reasons, and for economical reasons. In the ICE 4 I guess they decided that since the trains never really went above 250, why add all the extra more powerful motors to get there if it really isn't used.
Makes sense really 👌🏻🙅🏻♂️
370Kilometerprostunde is max
Very impressive lovely modern railway 👍🏻.
Indeed it is!
Yes, I will definitely be going to Erfurt this year! And they're having the same debates about the HS2 line in the UK right now 🤣
Just a quick info regarding the Flirt 3 you labelled as a Meridian train: the brand Meridian doesn't exist anymore.
Ah ok thanks for the info ☺️🇩🇪
Very informative comment, thank you! 😁
Love from India. Nice site scenery and I love trains
Thank you 🙏🏻
love the video took that train in 2018 same trip.the wifi was good thx for the memories
You're welcome 🙂
Somebody said: "Berlin is a world metropolis. Munich is a big village." Is it true?:)
Not really 😂
awesome trip report i admire the ICE trains very modern long and modern and also the dining car Munich looks like a great city but especially berlin with many attractions and the huge central station one of my favourites in the whole world i also want to go Germany myself also when the time is right
Thanks Daniel! I'm sure you'll get there soon 😃
@@NonstopEurotrip no problem and thanks once passport process and pandemic downfall is done ready to travel
Thanks, it's definitely on my to-do list! 👌🏻☺️
They still have the old seats in some ice3?
@@burgerpommes2001 Yes, I believe the seats on the ICE4 are the new ones. The ICE 3 seats are really comfy tho. The design is slim but the padding is great and the recline is gorgeous.
I'm from frankfurt.. I really enjoy it ❤
Thank you!! 😃
i can also recommend the ICE 3 sprinter trains between Munich and Berlin.
Yes! I wanted to try a 4 though. Will be doing Zurich-Munich this year 😊
Germany looks so pristine and pretty, clean and efficient.
Rovos rail looks amazing! I've watched a few videos. Germany is pretty nice yeah 🇩🇪😄
never seen a DEUTCHE BAHN WC so clean.
😂😂😂
1:20 are you sure about the length? According to Wikipedia, the 12-Car ICE4 has a lenght of 345m and the new 13-Car version a lenght of 374m.
I miss traveling by train, can't wait for the pandemic to be behind us and return to traveling around Germany.
Yes, you're right, English Wikipedia is wrong 😂
Thank you. Great on board review. Been to Germany 3 times. Love it. Baden-Baden is one of our small town cities we love. The Spas.
Love the trains of Europe. If you can next video, please extend the caption time a little longer.
Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback. I try to leave the captions up long enough for me to read them twice, but will extend where possible 👌🏻
Yeah I often book 1st on FB as usually not much more in advance, as you say ☺️👍🏻
Fabulous ride ,enjoyed every bit of it,,,,keep up the great job
Thank you!!! 😁
Fun fact: Nürnberg HBF is actually the non-terminal (idk the English word) station with the most tracks in all of Europe (22 Tracks)
Wow! We just call it a 'through station' 👍🏻
i travel with this exact train back and forth from Munich to Erfurt every 2 weeks and i gotta say, not a single complaint up to now...
Me too 😊
