Great video. I can't say that I have run into any issues with mine, it has run well and has done what I have needed it to do. Though, I was very disappointed to see that they announced AMD versions coming when they still need to do more with their Intel one. Why didn't they just start with AMD instead of using Intel at all. For the work stuff I have used the device for it rocks. It calculated some very complex spreadsheets better than everything but my gaming laptop which was impressive. The gaming side needs work, but that is also on Intel as well.
A competitor to the amd version is the minisforum tablet but it's also got some quirks... I'd get the lenovo legion go but it's only for 16 gig ram or I'd get the asus x but it doesn't have detachable controllers.. no major manufacturer makes anything like this. Onex x1 amd version vs minisforum v3 that's all there is, i believe, if you want a tablet that's also a pc, with gaming on the side not front and center
Thank you for your critical video, I was thinking about ordering the X1 since I liked the big display and the Oculink-interface but this will keep me away as a customer. The support does not seem to be able to help or not willing to help, serious flaws in both the hard- and the software of the X1 and missing details like what eGPUs would be supported and so on.
Thanks so much for showing your experience with this product. I've been considering picking one of these up, but there just doesn't seem to be enough support behind the product quite yet. Hopefully, Strix Point will make it's way into handhelds soon.
Great video, I was a potential customer too. Do you know if amd version is better in terms of reliability or not? I guess it's better to wait until ~February 2025 for devices with z2 extreme.

Regarding the performance of the X1 mini, what is your assessment? Thank you very much for your advice and feedback.
Glad I'm not alone for about the 3.5mm jack, lol. Why on Earth must it be under a cover!? I have their One-NetBook T1 and the speakers are quiet. They also changed the pen from the one planned and what reviewers received. Did your Legion Go and case smelled liked mine when you got it?
Look man . Eta prime is a big channel . He doesn’t even pushes the device to the limit . He uses a device one day and tosses it away moments later. Thanks for your honest review, I was wondering if it was worth it to buy it, even if they'll launch a 8840U version in the next days 1. As I expected it seems to be too heavy to play without putting the tablet on something 2. Screen size is great but still too little to use as a laptop 3. When I see all the eGPU issues you had, I don't even want to try to buy one 😂 It's sad that these days, I find that customer support is really bad no matter the company it is... like Asus even if it's a big company The only gaming handheld company I'd trust is Valve but I don't like the Steam Deck with performance worse than Z1 Extreme & 7840U/8840U I'm kinda lost with what to choose (Not fan of Legion GO, MSI Claw is a no as it has Intel chip), I guess I'll wait 😢
I found Steam Deck to be controversial as well. But it's quite ironic that the more I used the X1, the more I remembered the carefree days with Steam Deck, as it just worked predictably and consistently.
Shame, it looks pretty good if nothing else. Plus I like that the SD card slot is not next to the charging port so it probably won't get fried. But these issues are unacceptable, my Legion Go is far from perfect, yet it's still nowhere near as bad as this. Windows handhelds need to improve on the SW side.
Thank you for your video ! You saved me of buying this product, the concept is amazing, but the execution is poorly designed. I am right now a sub 100% 🎉
nice video. this is a good concept but: 1. needs steamos or one of the linux alternatives to steamos, and needs to have good support for steam 2. needs better controllers, maybe put out multiple kinds of controllers, especially ones with dual touchpads. and they need to be wireless (without a "battery addon) and low latency. and when they're attached they should have zero latency. 3. needs better hardware and cooling inside, you pointed out all sorts of bugs 4. needs AMD apu or cpu + gpu from AMD 5. needs better support. probably only going to happen if another company does it. this stuff is ridiculous 6. i haven't seen you mention it, so i'll mention it here, it needs low latency gaming display with VRR. 120hz is nice but not if it's laggy. Also, more and more consoles are showing detachable controllers. The industry needs to agree on a standard for the physical connector and protocol and charging and wireless protocol, so I can have a choice of controllers. I really like this form factor. This would probably be the only thing to get me to switch away from my Steam Deck. But it needs to have ALL the points above.
It was pretty stable when I used my Thunderbolt eGPU with the Legion Go. But I still think it's not an Intel problem, but rather a device power management problem. Also if you don't need m.2. SSD from ONEXGPU, take a look at GPD G1, it has build in PSU and way more portable. And both of them will be noisy :D
@@trysometech52 I will be using m.2 slot to put oculink adapter so I need extra SSD storage. So I'm really confused what to get. Also ONEXGPU now on sale on Aliexpress till June 7 and with my coupon and extra coins can get it for $507 only. So I really don't know what to choose. Yes, GPD G1 more compact but no SSD slot and most important IO's on the front side.
I also have bought the same device and i am really dissapointed in the overall performance. i also bought their eGPU, it works fine via usb c and oculink but it is really loud. Overall i will not buy any intel APU device again without dedicated GPU. And the new and also the old AMD APUs deliver way much more performance for the same price....overall you can use it as a small working laptop, but since it is marketed as a gaming device, it is really a bad product. You can play older titles or emulation quite well, but considering the price there are way better and cheaper devices with the same or better performce...
Do not buy any Onexplayer devices. Their actual devices are no where near what reviewers are showing. If you view their Discord channel, there are many complaints of battery not charging, unusable webcam and microphone, eGPU not working etc. Their customer support will reject all claims and ignore you.
Probably yes, but there are still so many other problems with this device, so I don't know. When it comes to the 9 inch - I think that Legion Go will be better for its price.
What a nice review and opinion about this product, for sure I saw the video from ETA Prime talking about this product and I said omg, this is a revolution but I was afraid of those Chinese companies, that's why I prefer buying something for known brands like asus or lenovo, If you wanna play in a handheld don't try those Frankensteins these companies release, let's go to the safe route and that's it.
Intel turbo boost, boost the CPU performance. This can be good for games that utilize the CPU more. However, games that are more GPU hungry it's better to turn off so the GPU gets more power.
@@trysometech52 that makes sense since the CPU would be the bottleneck in that situation. Then you don’t want to turn off Turbo boost. However if the GPU is bottlenecked then it could help in some apps. It’s the same when playing a game at 1080p and 4k. Most games you’ll get similar performance at 4k with most CPUs in the top end where the weaker CPUs will get less performance in 1080p with the same GPU.
And again, in theory you are totally right :) But if I turn on "Turbo mode" - it works exactly like you described in "Intel turbo boost" and I am getting much higher FPS on CPU demanding games
i backed this one and canceld and now thinking of the AMD version. Think it will be better than this one? Hope they used all the x1 intel buyers to make the x1 and better. What are your thoughts on the X1 mini and X1 with a 8840 u and 32gb of ram?
I was thinking of it but I don’t it has anything to do with intel vs AMD the build quality is just how it is the cooling is great and the ports they used aren’t either
about the egpu unstable frametime,I have the same issue with my msi claw with egpu in some game and 4k youtube,it can be fixed by disable igpu and also vrr,I don't know the reason but it works
I honestly might sell all of my onexplayer handhelds and try legion go ...legion go has accessories...good support and their game center works ...onex is letting me down :( i guess my onexplayer 1 was the best experience and that bricked shipped it away for 2 months ... anything after is a wash
I been having a problem with battery life, the *PC* only charge when it feel like it, some times i can be setting at 70% battery and die 2 to 3 minutes later and it doesn't matter what i do it wont charge
I realize having a handheld PC from that company if you switch their drivers with a normal driver or custom one the device doesn't function well anymore also the device stops functioning good when you put your own windows instead of their software windows type the device stops working good so it sucks because it's like they set up their devices too only work with their software or drivers so that's not cool and that's why when I had the onexplayer 2 pro I sold it after like 2 months I say the only thing that company's good for is they're onexGPU and that's it because at least you can put whatever driver on that and it won't mess with the EGPU.......... So my to go to handheld PC would be my legion go for now I don't care too much that it only have 16 gigs of RAM but I can still play my triple-A games on it with no problem also the battery is not that good but whatever like I said if you have a battery bank you can keep going
plus the model you have doesnt have the improved stick you have apls stick, the newer ones are hall effect. Plus there's another user named Nelly who does X1 videos and she ran into the egpu problem but figured out the problem and post what to do. She both a few different epgu cables and they failed except one and and worked fine after
I was gonna get the X1 mini but after watching this one idk I’m sure they didn’t fix the issues AMD isn’t goin to fix oculink ports and thermal issues That’s more quality control
man..... i was planning to buy this, but after read ur review and customer support still blaming ur dock, i think it will be better stay with gpd....., im currently using gpd product without any problem with g1, others also dont have any problem with desktop class gpu....

Easy to say that now, when you have tons of reviews and an AMD version of it. This CPU was new at that point without any benchmarks on the internet. Also, I don't care about poor performance of the iGPU, device is still bad overall.
@@trysometech52 Intel has been struggling with both their CPU and GPU for years. In any case, tech RUclipsrs should know better. Basically, only ignorant people and people who don't know any better buy Intel products. Hardware is one thing, software is another. Anyone who buys completely new products can play a beta tester. In any case, I don't hear any criticism of the Onexplayer T1 and Mini in the AMD version. It would also be strange, 90% of handheld PCs (x86) have an AMD CPU. But thank you for sharing your impressions with us and warning others.
Funny you said that while ~70% of the market is owned by Intel. I myself would have switched to AMD a long time ago if they had an alternative to intel quick sync. So before call others ignorant, you need to know a little better about the subject. Because most of youtubers just making a quick videos and not actually using it (AMD version). Some of them afraid to say something bad, because next time they will not get a free sample, and some of them just using a handheld too casually to find some issues
@@trysometech52 There's actually nothing funny about it, the topic is clearly handheld. And here, AMD is the dominant player, as well as on the console market, with the exception of the Switch. I can apply your theory to Intel reviews just as well. None of the RUclipsrs make long-form videos, everyone is afraid of Intel (and rightly so!) if you know the past.
If we're talking only about handhelds, then I totally agree on that :) I was skeptical when 155H was announced, but at the same time very curious. But again, OXP deсitions in terms of software/engineering/hardware/support/delivery were the main problem here. It's not Intel's fault that the webcam is rotated, that device gets overheated during charging and that BIOS is not capable to handle everything
I feel that too many companies are delivering half-baked products and leaving the beta testing to the customers, which is fine for smaller companies that are just starting up, but I think unacceptable for medium or large size companies like this one.

I did assemble an aliexpress oculink gpu that I managed to get working with my Hades Canyon with non-working TB ports. Which is nice.
@@choboutube I hope it handles whatever you need well. I can confirm, in the 3 hours or so that I've used the Intel equipped X1, I think I can get by with it. Time will tell, but I got it to be a portable device with a sufficiently sized screen for gaming (compared to my Win 4 with a 6 inch screen). I don't intend for this to be used as an all around device like how a PC would be.
thank you for your honest review!
for the new model, I recommend get the AMD version because intel is the reason why it's slow
thanks for your video, I am planning to buy x1 mini and will reconsider once more
What a shady business... I am sorry to hear what you have been through.
I am not sure if it works within the country you're living but you can try next time filing a dispute with your bank with all these evidences.
And, for ETA Prime, I watch him with the audio muted. LOL.
Great Product.. It's performance not worth the cost. Thanks for your HONEST review!!
Its cause of the intel. I juat got the amd one and yea....its wayyy better
I received the AMD 8840U 10.95" version. Its incredible.
Did you try it with some egpu?
@@whatcher6968 I have not but truly havent been challenged to need it.
Very good video, please further in such quality
Thanks for the warning. I am sticking with my Legion Go. The 11 inches is a tempting upgrade from 8.8, but I don't trust the company.
Damn I was deciding between onexplayer mini and the steam deck, but after seeing that it’s shipped from china I’m def going with the steam deck which is shipped from within the EU. I’m not risking or dealing with having to pay customs fees after already having spent over €1000.
1 minute into the video and you already messed up by getting the Intel CPU
Brah, which one was I supposed to order back in January?
Just saved me £2000 thank you 🙏
You just saved me a tonne of worry!
Wonderful content sir. You definitely have me subscribed!
Thanks for your honesty
Im so done buying tech from these smaller companies and beta testing stuff. I don't have one of these and this definitely doesnt make me want it.
Beta Tester indeed. This company could make a huge dent in the market with a properly supported product like this. I'm looking forward to the Gen2 of this product or the GPD products. Hopefully, Strix Point will make it's way into handhelds soon.
How is the battery life for video consumption? Will it last 10hour+
Take mini with Amd , not take big with Intel
Great video, I was a potential customer too. Do you know if amd version is better in terms of reliability or not? I guess it's better to wait until ~February 2025 for devices with z2 extreme.
Sounds like I dodged a bullet. Ive been looking for a tablet or small laptop that has 64gb of ram and oculink because i will be doing a lot of traveling in the coming year. Will probably end up with the flow x13 and just do without the extra ram.
Thanks for your video. I've been waiting for the ultimate handheld ever since i saw the rog ally released, i really did think X1 was the one but maybe not. I know it wont be likely due to your problems you have had, but would you do a review on the new AMD model when that releases?
The AMD model might be better, but for now I don't think I would risk my money anymore.
Interesting video man! Looks like an interesting product but its trying to do a lot at once haha :D
Sorry for the problems that have plagued you. I placed an order early in the campaign but then I cancelled it because I doubted the quality. I was lucky that I did so.
You should flip the back cover from the top down so the vents are not covered like with the minisforum V3
There are no magnets, it doesn't work that way here
I really wish they put an AMD chip in the X1 to begin with. Intel was a mistake. Great video tho 👍🏽
hello, I really like the onex player X1 mini, I think I'm going to buy it. but before that I would like to have some information, I don't know what you think about it, isn't it too heavy to be able to play on the sofa or in transport? are the components of quality is the controller of quality? is it securely attached to the screen? Regarding the performance of the X1 mini, what is your assessment? Thank you very much for your advice and feedback.
Glad I'm not alone for about the 3.5mm jack, lol. Why on Earth must it be under a cover!?
I have their One-NetBook T1 and the speakers are quiet. They also changed the pen from the one planned and what reviewers received.
Did your Legion Go and case smelled liked mine when you got it?
hah, Legion Go case wasn't even close to this one
I want to see you review the onexplayer x1 mini(back to amd)
Look man . Eta prime is a big channel . He doesn’t even pushes the device to the limit . He uses a device one day and tosses it away moments later. I don’t like his philosophy , he always plays it safe , he uses low setting with fsr balanced or performance to target 60 plus fps whereas i am interested in seeing how well the device will perform in native conditions with a mix of high medium and low settings. On the contrary you trying to test the device with a 2060 made me quite excited as gpus like the 80 and 90 series are way out of my league .
Yeah you are totally right, I just wanted to warn more ppl about his approach to the reviews
@@trysometech52 i haven’t seen your videos yet but it will be nice if you do some long term reviews of your techs . For example I brought a razer kishi at the end of 2022 and the entire left part of it stopped working suddenly at the beginning of 2024 . These stuff is quite expensive I didn’t even use my kishi v1 that much . And this is quite disappointing especially from a company like razer . This time I went with the game sir g8 . I was planning to buy a rog ally as in my country steam deck isn’t officially available. Thank god gamer nexus saved me . At the end I really don’t trust big channels like eta prime . Taki udon and retro gaming corps are still better channels . I really loved your take on this one x player device although never ever did I dream of getting a device like this .
Big oof. Thanks for putting together this video! I was considering grabbing an X1 Mini, and holy moly, I would not have the patience to deal with this. I'll simply wait until Lenovo releases a Legion Go 2 (or until my GPD Win 4 dies)
Thanks for being honest
Sounds like I should jus buy the legion go as my big screen handheld pc so thanks for the review making my decision a lot earlier
Beta products thrown to the customers to be debuged and frustrated... Thanks for the honest review
also the kick stand folds both ways can pull the bottom out or pull the top down, the way your using it your blocking one fan. Pull down from the top so it leans on that and frees up the fan instead of making stand with the bottom kick stand
You're confusing it with Minisforum v3. There is no magnets at the bottom and I didn't say that there is a fan under that hole
@@trysometech52 no im not confused you just don't understand what I'm saying. You can fold you kickstand both ways, fromtthe top or bottom. If you use it from the bottom like this vid your blocking a fan
And again, you can't do that. There is the only one way how you can attach that kickstand. Do you really think I haven't tried? :D

Thanks for your honest review, I was wondering if it was worth it to buy it, even if they'll launch a 8840U version in the next days
1. As I expected it seems to be too heavy to play without putting the tablet on something
2. Screen size is great but still too little to use as a laptop
3. When I see all the eGPU issues you had, I don't even want to try to buy one 😂
It's sad that these days, I find that customer support is really bad no matter the company it is... like Asus even if it's a big company
The only gaming handheld company I'd trust is Valve but I don't like the Steam Deck with performance worse than Z1 Extreme & 7840U/8840U
I'm kinda lost with what to choose (Not fan of Legion GO, MSI Claw is a no as it has Intel chip), I guess I'll wait 😢
Completely agree. I still think that Legion Go is better in many ways + it's cheaper
I've seen at the end of the video that the currency is HUF for the eGPU dock. Are you Hungarian?
No I am not Hungarian, but I am living here for the past few years
Thank you for your video ! You saved me of buying this product, the concept is amazing, but the execution is poorly designed. I am right now a sub 100% 🎉
You should try the AMD version. I just got it and with the bios update its been great!
you deserve a subscribe for sure!!!
nice video. this is a good concept but:
1. needs steamos or one of the linux alternatives to steamos, and needs to have good support for steam
2. needs better controllers, maybe put out multiple kinds of controllers, especially ones with dual touchpads. and they need to be wireless (without a "battery addon) and low latency. and when they're attached they should have zero latency.
3. needs better hardware and cooling inside, you pointed out all sorts of bugs
4. needs AMD apu or cpu + gpu from AMD
5. needs better support. probably only going to happen if another company does it. this stuff is ridiculous
6. i haven't seen you mention it, so i'll mention it here, it needs low latency gaming display with VRR.
Very detailed video. I want to ask about eGPU. Want to get ONEXGPU for my UM790 Pro. Does it will work like that too or with AMD it's more stable?
I haven't used any of them, so it's better for you to decide.
Also, just curious, Why don't you want to build a mini-itx PC at this point?
I also have bought the same device and i am really dissapointed in the overall performance. i also bought their eGPU, it works fine via usb c and oculink but it is really loud. Overall i will not buy any intel APU device again without dedicated GPU. And the new and also the old AMD APUs deliver way much more performance for the same price....overall you can use it as a small working laptop, but since it is marketed as a gaming device, it is really a bad product. You can play older titles or emulation quite well, but considering the price there are way better and cheaper devices with the same or better performce...
Aren't speakers supposed to measure flat? Why are they applying a Harman tuning to speakers?
Do not buy any Onexplayer devices. Their actual devices are no where near what reviewers are showing. If you view their Discord channel, there are many complaints of battery not charging, unusable webcam and microphone, eGPU not working etc. Their customer support will reject all claims and ignore you.
Is not True i Got x1 and i Got broken keyboard the send me replacement ofter 48 hours when i write mail.
@robertbigkrbk7692 are you on their Discord?
China QC at it's best (meaning no QC 😂)
Would you have been happier with the new AMD version and would you prefer 9 inch or 11 inch size?
Probably yes, but there are still so many other problems with this device, so I don't know.
When it comes to the 9 inch - I think that Legion Go will be better for its price.
9 version Got 2230 nvme . On oculink 155h i Got better performance than 8840u
I wouldn't generalize about all Chinese companies, I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there.
amazing video friend!
Intel turbo boost, boost the CPU performance. This can be good for games that utilize the CPU more. However, games that are more GPU hungry it's better to turn off so the GPU gets more power.
In theory - yes, but here when I turn it ON even with eGPU connected - performance still the same
@@trysometech52 that makes sense since the CPU would be the bottleneck in that situation.
@@trysometech52 yeah. We’re definitely saying the same thing. lol.
i backed this one and canceld and now thinking of the AMD version.
Is there AMD version having the same issues?
I backed out of this one at the last minute, then bought an Ayaneo Kun. Love the Kun. Happy I backed out.
about the egpu unstable frametime,I have the same issue with my msi claw with egpu in some game and 4k youtube,it can be fixed by disable igpu and also vrr,I don't know the reason but it works
Mmm, sounds like more tinkering to make it work. But I'll give it a try, thanks.
Thanks. I will not buy the Mini
I'm considering the AMD version
thank you for your honest review sir :D
I honestly might sell all of my onexplayer handhelds and try legion go ...legion go has accessories...good support and their game center works ...onex is letting me down :( i guess my onexplayer 1 was the best experience and that bricked shipped it away for 2 months ... anything after is a wash
Bro, do u need thumbnail designing services at affordable prices?
I been having a problem with battery life, the *PC* only charge when it feel like it, some times i can be setting at 70% battery and die 2 to 3 minutes later and it doesn't matter what i do it wont charge
Feels bad man. Do you use original charger?
I wish this guy review more stuff, tired of ETA where everything is "perfect", really misleading
Does the new one with AMD CPU change anything?
plus the model you have doesnt have the improved stick you have apls stick, the newer ones are hall effect. Plus there's another user named Nelly who does X1 videos and she ran into the egpu problem but figured out the problem and post what to do. She both a few different epgu cables and they failed except one and and worked fine after
They are the same, that's not a "newer" model, man.
Regarding eGPU - that's right, different eGPU different problems, mine were solved as well.
@@trysometech52 yeah there's two sticks that are out for the X1, apls that shipped with it or you can buy hall effect ones.
glad buy steam deck

That’s more quality control
man..... i was planning to buy this, but after read ur review and customer support still blaming ur dock, i think it will be better stay with gpd....., im currently using gpd product without any problem with g1, others also dont have any problem with desktop class gpu....

Will AR glass work with this?

The intel chip seems to be a miss.
Dude, your first mistake was choosing the Intel version. You call yourself a tech RUclipsr and make such a questionable decision. Fooled by yourself.
If we're talking only about handhelds, then I totally agree on that :)
I was skeptical when 155H was announced, but at the same time very curious. But again, OXP deсitions in terms of software/engineering/hardware/support/delivery were the main problem here. It's not Intel's fault that the webcam is rotated, that device gets overheated during charging and that BIOS is not capable to handle everything
hey thats not all bad, you got a free desktop fan
I like the way you think
I feel that too many companies are delivering half-baked products and leaving the beta testing to the customers, which is fine for smaller companies that are just starting up, but I think unacceptable for medium or large size companies like this one.
Yeah, and it feels like they're not even trying to polish their software. They are happy with the current business model
