I have had some cravings, but I am so thankful I haven't had any bad mood swings. The last time I tried to quit the mood swings were so bad no one in my family would talk to me. Plz don't smoke. Also don't compare your progress with others. That is so self defeating. Just cause some people can quit, cold turkey, or in a short amount of time, that doesn't invalidate the progress you make, nor does it make you less of a person. All that matters is that you get to the point of being free from the addiction, no matter how long it takes, how many ups and downs, and restarts. Just keep going.

      @@susanlivingston8252 I know it's hard, but also know that it gets easier and easier. A friend of mine said it takes 30 days to build a new habit, stay strong and think ahead of the rewards of your hard work. Everyone can do things that are easy, but as David Goggins says "stay hard"! Do it because it's hard and to prove to yourself and others that you can. It gets easier, but never easy.
      Some tips for what I did: Initially I stayed away from high risk areas or situations where I would often crave a cigarette like the pub down the street etc. Instead I found other things to distract my mind with like a new video game that was really fun or a really hard workout at the gym that only made me want to go to bed after. Also working out you almost don't have a conscious to take a cigarette after.

    I quit smoking five years ago. I read a book on how to quit smoking by a guy called Allan Carr, then went to one of his classes. I was promised in the class that if I started smoking within a year of taking the class, I would get a full refund. I haven't smoked since, and haven't felt the need to. Quitting is relatively easy, if you put your mind to it, and the best way to quit is cold turkey as, unlike drugs like heroine, the addiction is mostly psychological, not physical, so if you use things like nicotine patches and gum it will reinforce the addiction and make it harder to stop.

      It does work for some people according to research, but the numbers are not great, it's about 20% more people on wellbutrin stop smoking compared to placebo. You want 100% considering with Wellbutrin you'll be hooked on an antidepressant with several possible side effects and difficulty stopping. 20% doesn't justify using it. Just look up the research paper, it was free to view when I read it.

Having cptsd and autism my body doesn't respond to neuro typical toxic environments/people the same, especially when triggered. Imagine Ritalin/cafene upper for add, and then nicotine for autism.... hope somebody looks into this with a real study and gets facts from others. Could change many lives. ❤

    I'm sorry, but she is so full of it. Smoking cessation programs including NRT don't work and that has been proven time and time again by millions of people. Personally I stopped onky thanks to the Easy way to stop smoking audiobook, that attempt I stopped for 3 months cold turkey only thanks to that book. Then I started again because my friends all smoke in my presence. Now since new year I listened to the book again and now I'm 4 months clean cold turkey. This time I don't miss it anymore, no more cravings. I'm happy. I still have other addictions in my life, but smoking was the most difficult to beat because of easy access to it on every corner, because it's so cheap and at least 20% people smoke where I live. Please, do not listen to this doctor, she is lying even though she doesn't realize it.

    Is a habit different from an addiction when it comes to substance abuse?

    • @crit-c4637
      @crit-c4637 8 месяцев назад +3

      Yes. Addiction is dependence on a chemical. In the case of tobaco it's nocotine. Your body becomes dependent on nicotine and if you go a certain amount of time without it, you have really bad cravings, emotional disregulation, and eventually suffer physical withdrawal symptoms.
      Habits are just behavioral routines that become a default because we've done them so much.
