    My teacher once told me:
“You think it’s smoking that calms you down, when if fact, you’re physically removing yourself from a stressful situation by going outside, take deep breaths to calm down for 2-5 minutes, and go back inside ready to face the task again.”
I know that isn’t exactly true but it’s something to think about.

Yeah here in Canada it used to say on the cigarette packs "smoking is more addictive than heroin or cocaine." And I thought yeah right, whoever said that clearly hasn't tried heroin. It's great at first but in the end you'll just be constantly trying to chase that dragon and you're not gonna catch it. You're tolerance will be so high after not long it will barely get you high anymore. It stops being fun fast but most people don't realize that in the begging and by the time they realize it, it is usually too late.

Instead of just saying over and over, "you need to quit" actually having someone working with you and not treating you like you're an idiot can be super beneficial because if it were easy to do, everyone who ever got hooked could easily quit but it's a process and I'm so glad he's on his way again to getting healthy. It wasn't easy for me to quit smoking. I quit everyday for 2 years. I used to think I am in control of my addiction, but I didn't realise how wrong I was. I would throw away almost full packs kto convince myself that I've quit) just to buy a pack again the next week.
I quit almost two years ago and I quit abruptly (rather than follow my planned "slowly lower your intake plan"). I decided one day that I had had enough and that I wasn't the strong person I thought I was. Been a hard journey but I can already see the benefits and the change in my life.
My message to anyone trying to quit smoking - Don't fool yourself by thinking you can quit. Just quit. That's the only way. Everting else is an excuse.

I’m going on day 3 nicotine free so I’m at peak withdrawal stage. I’ve needed a nicotine fix for the last 5 years or so. It’s an overwhelming feeling, the best way I can describe it is that my brain feels thirsty and my head feels pressured. It’s difficult but not impossible to get through. I’ve been dealing with the urge for nicotine by doing push-ups, chewing on straws, snacking, etc. I’m hoping it gets easier soon. Watching these videos helps keep me motivated

I started doing physical exercises in a moderate pace and when I had built bit of physical endurance foundation, I than quit cold turkey and started to take my training up a notch and that made me feel real good. I was exercising, not smoking and automatically started to eat proper which helped in dealing with withdrawal symptoms.
Another important thing I did was to stop socializing because I knew that it would trigger me to smoke. I had to distance myself from my close mates and the ones who cared for me understood my reason.
Exercise, eat healthy and no socializing for 3 months was how I managed to beat the addiction. After 3 months, you will have bit of craving when you start socializing but you will be scared to smoke and after 6 months, you will no longer have any cravings.

Before retirement I helped many of my patients quit tobacco, so it's important to keep in mind the need to SLOWLY STOP smoking. To reduce the cravings, its necessary to actually commit to smoking one less cigarette per MONTH. Cold turkey completely denies your bodies addiction, while tapering down will NOT elicit cravings to a great deal.

I haven't cometely quit, I've cut way down, and what has helped me do that is the same thing he says about being conscious when you smoke - I was shocked that most of the time I smoke, it's not because I'm craving a cigarette, it's because I was not being conscious, like just out of habit. I relapsed when I was emotionally upset, because my mind was "busy" with my emotions, rather than thinking about what I'm doing, it's automatic.

My mema, who is 70 years old, had a stroke only 3 weeks ago. The primary cause was from cigarettes, she had smoked for 55 years. Now, she doesn't have the left side of her brain, and questions everything and cant properly care for herself. She doesn't retain hardly any information, and it hurts to see. She is in need of constant reassurance on what to do. Whereas my Grandma who is 79 and didn't touch cigarettes acts as if she's only 50, she's strong and in great health. It's mind blowing to see the difference between them.

Prior to that I'd smoked 10 - 35 per day for around four years.

@@rajapusapati1 Compared to the cravings right when you quit, yeah they're very insignificant. Kind of in the same vein as the "have a pack on you at all times" I still like to go stand outside with friends when they're smoking and chat just like I did when I smoked. That social component of smoking was something I really missed when I quit and I found that I could still have that as long as I remained steadfast and didn't cave in around them.

I recently quit smoking. Soon to be three months now. It has not been a easy journey especially being around smokers. I woke up one day after 14 years of smoking ciggerettes and said I'm done. No support no cheats , just me myself and I. The worst Is the agitation. I felt alone. But I see changes my breathing is so much better. The color of my lips getting rosy again. I don't smell like ciggerettes unless someone smokes my way. It does agitate me because I walk away but they follow. My workouts I feel I have more control. I don't stop every five minutes to smoke. Saved tons of money from not buying packs. I am going to keep going. The beginning was super difficult I bought Lolly pops to keep myself occupied. My sleep was none existent. And I was sluggish. I kept on working out. And telling myself that I can do this. I was not able to breathe for a while. Now I'm starting to feel more like myself and it was worth it. Even if no one understood or supported me at the time I'm proud that I stopped. I wanted to stop to run a marathon for cancer and mental health. I need to set better examples. And I wanted to make sure that I would not Wheeze through the runs. I set many goals But quiting ciggerettes is the biggest challenge I faced. I set myself that goal. And I feel free . I had to change my mindset I failed many time before I found what was right for me.

I quit a year ago after a big battle against nicotine addiction for 15 years , i actually tried to stop before for 3 months but went back to nicotine, now im 1 year smoke free, what really convinced me to stop nicotine in all its forms is the fact that a non smokers mood is better then a smoker even while the smoker is smoking his cig and getting that buzz a non smoker is still feeling better unbelievable right?! I thought it was a joke and i said to myself let me quit smoking and find out and i can tell you this, me quitting nicotine is the best thing i ever did in my life i feel free i breath air instead of chemicals and smoke i feel very confident and my mood is very good dont get irritated or sad or angry quickly like when i was a nicotine addict, its amazing feeling i know you can do it just convince your mind and brain that nicotine brings stress and then traps you in a nicotine withdrawal stress your whole life if you dont quit
