Amazing seriously flawless. I love that she wants to help people. Especially others to understand the addiction of cravings. On top of that describes to replace certain words instead of cigarette. I'm not a cigarette smoker, every now and then I would have one, I vaped constantly and I have EPILEPSY. I drank every now and then, but today I am finally READY to quit. If you can go one day or even 30 minutes to one hour without smoking, you can do it, you're not alone, it's never too late. I haven't smoked in 2 hours maybe even 3 (time flies), but I already feel freaking great. Don't hurt yourself, don't harm yourself. This is a great strategy to persevere, not just wisdom. Keep going!! Thank you.

A lot of the 'depression' is one's interpretation of the withdrawal symptoms. But kept reminding myself its just temporary. Update - I’m still nicotine free! I would say there were some tough (ish) moods around day 28 but now I feel mentally better and stronger than I’ve felt since I was a kid
Excellent job!!! Congratulations!!! Very hard thing to do after so much time but you did it!!! You have inspired me big time. Thank you for sharing your story.

Congratulations, Toni. At the moment, I'm stuck with smoking. Though since last few weeks, I haven't been enjoying at all but for 2 years everyday I've been saying to myself that this one's the last, this one's the last. And I end up failing the next day, and the failure continues.
3 weeks of not smoking after 11 years of smoking a pack a day 🙌 the most rewarding feeling for me is getting to know myself in a new way - I was really convinced that I could never stop, others yes, not me, and here I am, smoke-free days counting. Wishing all the best to you all!
My friends i have stopped smoking for about 4 months now for good and it felt sooo good. I can now breath much better and enjoy my life more..just believe and trust yourself that you can..
DAY 2 Since quitting, this is helping. I want to comment so that i can come back to this comment and remind myself the reasons Why i choose to quit. Good luck to everyone who is trying.
I'll be 1 year smoke-free this week, after having smoked 9 years, all thanks to this video. I followed her youtube videos that broke down the 4 stages. I can breathe again, i started running this year, & my tracking app Flamy informs me I've saved over $1k and gained back 90 days of life.
I have decided to quit today 31-5-2022 , world tobacco free day . Wish me luck. Update 1.....Day 50 without smoke 🤟 Lost 5 Kgs by eating healthy and IF 16:8
Two weeks clean here. Don’t think a couple of weeks will get you out of the water. I’ve been here plenty of times before, and have broken thinking one hit of a cigarette/vape wouldn’t hurt…it will. Here’s to letting yourself breathe. Cheers and good luck all.
The hardest part is the habit or routine that has settled in. I just turned 47 ..... and I just want my healthy life again including working out & running again. I want healthy lungs (air), good breath, a healthy complexion, and not smelling like I came out of a casino. This was a great speech that motivated me now!!🙌 Wish me luck everyone!💯💕
I managed to stop 6 weeks ago after 30 years on 20 s day. I did it by cutting down gradually . From 20 to 15 to 10 to 5 .....and then one day realised I didn't need them at all. I can already feel the difference when walking or doing any kind of of exercise. It's like being 10 years younger !!
I haven't smoked in 4 days, but I feel like it's pointless keeping track because I know that I will never be touching it again. Can't believe I actually started!! All the best to anyone who is quitting too. You've got this! Edit : Day 15 [09/05/22] without a trace of Nicotine. Like I said, yuck! I cannot believe I actually got started. I'll keep updating for anyone who draw motivation from this. Edit : Day 757 [01 October 2024] without Nicotine and I actually forgot about this haha because I decided that I would not be a smoker and it would not be part of my life any longer, but I wanted to give a final update.. Life has improved so much. My skin, hair, nails and FINANCES!😍 Everything is just better without smoking... If you are trying to quit, please keep going! It's so very worth it my friend 🙏😊
had two smokes this morning and crushed the rest of the box, honestly feel like crying already, but i choose life, thank you for this speech. 5 days, boooom!! Feeling free!!
Dont be so hard on yourself. Keep trying when u get a really bad craving take a strew and breath thru it slowly it relaxs the body and take vitamin C it will curb your desire...its not magic its still hard but it helped me..i am on week 5... I was a long time smoker its hard i still get nurves and psychological desires to smoke even that there is no more nicotine withdrawal symptoms...just a strong feeling that i NEED a smoke...i close my eyes and imagine my self having one of my asthma attack and its makes the desire go away...dont give in to it it passes after 10 minints. Remember u can win it. Its just a matter of will power. Dont worry just start again
Inspiring to see someone else in the same shoes as me! I quit for a year and started smoking again after a party on New Year's Eve. Ready to try again and take it more seriously!
I am now three weeks smoke free as of today- cold turkey, and it’s been a great way for me to kick off the new year. I wish everyone success and positivity in their quit journey. I’m glad I came across this video.
I remember watching this video for the first time on June 2018. I was more than a 7-years chain smoker back then but really wanted to quit to have better control over my life. I am happy I have been able to quit, been 3 years almost. Thank you. This video has helped me a lot in the process!
I am curious as to how long the cravings lasted for you? After three years, is there any sort of urge or attraction that is still reminiscent of your old, aged habit?
I started smoking around 6 years back at 25yrs old due to my lifestyle(moving to a new city for work). Before this, I was too productive and healthy by having good habits (sports, eating healthy, working hard without any boredom, and also, keeping my mind and body together). During these 6yrs, I didn't feel myself - I was instantly getting rewards by smoking and taking things easy (I just don't want this lifestyle choice anymore, I want to be like an athlete that I used to be and energetic) I have many things to do in my environment, so gonna work on it each 1by1 and get a dopamine. My life is good and grateful for everything - it's just that I don't want a stimulant... So, I'm gonna take a decision as Nasia said "Personal Potential - (Identity, Emotions, and Beliefs)" and QUIT!!! - I will keep updating this thread with my progress, wish me luck!
I am smoke free for 36 days now after 23 years of smoking. I have been watching videos to keep me going and to never again touch a cigarette. That was a really good speech
Thank you so much Nasia. I'm going to watch this every time I get any sort of craving, I love this advice. I do choose to quit, finally. After 15 years of trying and failing. This is it for me. I will post updates!
1:57 dopamine and how it effects you 5:26 your personal potential 7:02 how to eliminate smoking behavior (What to think/do when you smoke). 8:39 what happens during your mind during smoking, how to change what your mind thinks. 11:00 how words create thoughts and what to think during a craving 14:00 how to get dopamine without cigs
I smoked for 9 years and it took me 2 years to stop smoking and it’s been 2 days , today is my third day , i really want to smoke just cause I know it will end my headace but I won’t , first day was hard , second was easy and today is a bit hard. I will have a headace rather than having burning chest , stomach , bad breath , bad skin and yellow teeth’s. I won’t waste my money. Tbh I’m breathing so much better and I have no burns in chest and stomach. I will not be a smoker ever again.
Quitted smoking 48 hours ago, and was trying to find motiviation to keep going and this is truly inspiring. "Desire manifests in words, belief in behaviour" is mindblowing to me, so simple and logical but incredibly powerful. Every point she makes in this Talk is incredibly useful
Philip Piller 1 month and 16 days smoke free here after watching this video! Replacing the sentence ”I want a cigarette” with ”I want air” worked for me the most in the first few weeks, even if it sounds silly! I cannot thank her enough for this TEDtalk. :)
I stopped smoking ten days ago this video has changed my way of thinking. I am not using patches or anything just your advice off the video thankyou so much smoker of 20 yrs
22 and a smoker here who is desperately trying to quit. One of things that help are my memories of when I was pre teen and I try to recall the things that made me happy as a kid. We all had moments of bliss no matter how small or fleeting they were. Moments devoid of any thought of external stimulants. I try to connect with that version of myself and so far it has been working, simply remembering that I had been happy without ciggarettes.
Wow, just wow! I really want to quite. I find just saying the words I love my son. Makes me not want to smoke. Because I do not want to die. I don't want my son not have his mummy. I'm going to watch this again. It really helped me to think about where I want to be in life. My greatest joy is being a mum. I want to live a long happy life with him. I can do this, you can do this. My son keeps me well and he is only 3. I'm so grateful for this video. Thank you xxx
It is so wonderful to see someone that truly spends their life helping others. The joy on her face, when she talked about Mellissa’s surgery being successful, was so beautiful.
5 days of not smoking so far, I really feel like I am going to make it this time. The trick with thinking positively and not thinking like "I am not allowed to smoke" worked for me.Thank you so much!!

God spared my aunties legs cause she almost had to have them amputated from smoking 🚬 cigarettes for 46 yrs plus a new medication helped cause it. But all they did was put stints into her legs. I’ve been smoking 29yrs and I’m here watching this video while smoking the last few cigarettes I have left. I will be sharing this great advice and video with my auntie to help her as well as myself. She and I quit drinking 🍷 together, so we’re quitting smoking together. I’m ready for freedom and not being held bound to a strong hold called a cigarette. I’m going to replace my cigarettes with better thoughts, a pen, paper, and a guitar. Gaining new knowledge, writing songs, and learning to play the guitar after all of these years putting it off. Thanks so much for this video and the wisdom it brings me. And I pray it helps my auntie as well. Much love!!
Firstly, I'm so glad that so many people made the decision to quit and was highly successful! This makes me believe that its absolutely possible. So I'm also embarking on my smoke-free, healthy lifestyle from today. Will keep updating as it goes! Day 1: Smoked only 1 cigarette! (When I used to smoke 12 per day). Day 2: had 1 cigrette

30 pack year smoker....Watched this video last year October 2019, I quit smoking a month later and have not had a cigarette since. Following her instructions to harness strength from the love of my wife and children, to HATE cigarettes and what it has stolen from me & my family. Get emotional about quitting, it works.
Because of this Ted talk it was really easy to quit smoking. Even on my first day I only felt happy en relieved instead of horrible with cravings. I even took a couple of beers on the first day because I immediately felt that 'it' worked for me:D I smoked from 14 until 33 years, 25 sigarettes a day and I never tried to quit before. Im smoke free since May 19th 2020 and I thank u Nasia Davos. U changed my life and I thank u for that!

Amazing inspiring and I've quit many many times but when emotions are intense I go back but I will never stop trying. I stopped for various periods and tried vaping 3 months ago. Got off ciggarettes and when i successfully stopped vaping in4 days I started smoking again as weight increased. 3 weeks vape free I managed to stop cold 4 days a week ago but bad news came and i smoked. 28 days vape free, 3 weeks smoking and im always ready to stop but struggle with fear. Universe brought me positive news today re a new career and smoking won't be good in this industry then this video was no.1 on my home page so as the sun is shining here in UK September 16th and 16 days till my work trial I think this is a sign to let go again. Thank you for reading and thank you for this video I will update also 🙏🏾💜✨️
I listened again just now. She talks you through the logistics of the psychological process of quitting smoking and all addictions. Well worth playing at addiction rehab centres.
So many in the comments here, saying they watched this 17-minute talk and successfully quit smoking because of it. Guess it's a powerful 17 minutes! Maybe I should watch again, but pay more attention; I've switched from smoking to vaping, but it's time to quit THAT too.
I applied this speech to my addiction to sugar. The hardest part is truly seeing yourself as someone who doesn’t eat sugar and to believe it’s possible to stop eating it. Every time I go to a restaurant I’m going to struggle with the temptation to order dessert. The same applies any time I go to a cafe, ride by an ice cream store, etc.
This is sooo aplicable to other bad habits!🤔 Especially the part about believing in the possibility and seeing myself as a non-smoker. I am just starting to apply these ideas and perspectives!🙏 🙏🙏
its just been an endless loop for me, quitting and then feeling proud for choosing to stop, then the next day i wake up with immediate morning cravings, and nothing else matters- i convince myself that i enjoy it, or if something pushes me over the edge i give in because i believe “it will make me feel better” but after i give in i feel so guilty, which then leads to more cigarettes. I need to stop now, because i know that truly feeling good is not having to rely on a substance and having amazing physical health. I hope that my next attempt is successful and pray i find the discipline. 🙏 wish me luck 🍀
Im in my 10th day mark and i can totally relate to u i was a heavy smoker for 19year All my friend are smoker not a single one i will the first I made cold turkey i was fed up and evry night i used to take oath for not smoking
After many tries to quit smoking (and then started again after few months), I found the most important part of success is very simple.... Love yourself. Value yourself and your body. Second pillar is... Let the emotions flow freely throughout and out of your body... Including negative ones. Those two points are crucial IMHO.
This speech is one of the best speeches I have heard on smokers and why we do what we do and how to help yourself. I mean I have personally gone through those thoughts and what Ross said makes perfect sense to me. Thank you very much ma'am.
This Video and Speech is really amazing , thanks NASIA , I stop smoking from 6th of Oct 2017 after 26 years of continuous smoking , I followed shes advice , I cultivate my potential , with dreaming and Identity , using my strong emotions and moving toward my goal with BELIEFS , my smoker friends ,believe me even in one week time the results and recovery of my health is amazing , thanks again NASIA for your magic words , thank you for giving a new birth to my life at age of 44 .

Update 1.....Day 50 without smoke 🤟
Lost 5 Kgs by eating healthy and IF 16:8
Day 21.... Holding strong....
Two weeks clean here. Don’t think a couple of weeks will get you out of the water. I’ve been here plenty of times before, and have broken thinking one hit of a cigarette/vape wouldn’t hurt…it will. Here’s to letting yourself breathe. Cheers and good luck all.
3 days smoke free, This vid gave me encouragement. Im fighting it.
I managed to stop 6 weeks ago
after 30 years on 20 s day. I did it by cutting down gradually . From
20 to 15 to 10 to 5 .....and then one day realised I didn't need them at all. I can already feel the difference when walking or doing any kind of of exercise. It's like being 10 years younger !!
All the best! You can do it!
How did you go Tona?
MY firs 48 hours as a non smoker- Good luck to all of us!
Well done! It’ll only get easier now
Do you keep going ?
Update please
How have things gone since September for you?

5 days,boooom!! Feeling free!!
Well done!!!!
Have you more air now?

Matthew Slivar same here 11months went back 8months ready to quit for good... good luck
Were you having any panic attacks or mood change??
I remember watching this video for the first time on June 2018. I was more than a 7-years chain smoker back then but really wanted to quit to have better control over my life. I am happy I have been able to quit, been 3 years almost. Thank you. This video has helped me a lot in the process!
Glad to know that! Congratulations on your success!!
Nice!
-
I will keep updating this thread with my progress, wish me luck!
I am smoke free for 36 days now after 23 years of smoking. I have been watching videos to keep me going and to never again touch a cigarette. That was a really good speech
Are you still smoke free ?
Thank you so much Nasia. I'm going to watch this every time I get any sort of craving, I love this advice. I do choose to quit, finally. After 15 years of trying and failing. This is it for me. I will post updates!
You're welcome! Keep us posted :)
1:57 dopamine and how it effects you
5:26 your personal potential
7:02 how to eliminate smoking behavior (What to think/do when you smoke).
8:39 what happens during your mind during smoking, how to change what your mind thinks.
11:00 how words create thoughts and what to think during a craving
14:00 how to get dopamine without cigs
Good one, thank you!
This video helped me so much, 4 years smoking free today 🎉 🎉
That’s awesome
Congratulations! That's awesome!
Congrats! Hope you're doing well :)
I stopped smoking ten days ago this video has changed my way of thinking.
I am not using patches or anything just your advice off the video thankyou so much
smoker of 20 yrs
22 and a smoker here who is desperately trying to quit. One of things that help are my memories of when I was pre teen and I try to recall the things that made me happy as a kid. We all had moments of bliss no matter how small or fleeting they were. Moments devoid of any thought of external stimulants. I try to connect with that version of myself and so far it has been working, simply remembering that I had been happy without ciggarettes.
Thank you madam! I’ve use your method and overcame my cravings. Happily Non-smoker for 1 year and half now.U have done a really good job on us.
70 days from last cigarettes
Lock down helped me
superb presentation - I've started her CBQ method of becoming a non-smoker. Already inspired and changing. Glory to God
The best video about quitting smoking I have ever seen
BulldogEDC Do you smoke?
Yes she is a great presenter.
Day 16 of sobriety, and I feel amazing! Today, 2/8/24 is day 1 of breathing pure clean air! I'm commenting to keep a record to come back to.
5 days of not smoking so far, I really feel like I am going to make it this time. The trick with thinking positively and not thinking like "I am not allowed to smoke" worked for me.Thank you so much!!
More than 20 days so far
This lady has some amount of magic within her ❤

Thank you so much Aniket. Much love to you - Nasia

My God, I cried while watching this! I am quitting smoking now! I want my life back...

Almost 1 month off cigarettes, after 7 years of smoking. We are on a good direction guys. Wish everyone the best.🫶🏼
Much love!!
you are just an angel sent to rescue me from smoking.... i am free ❤ i send my love to you wherever you are❤
Firstly, I'm so glad that so many people made the decision to quit and was highly successful!
I'm quitting smoking as of tomorrow December 5 2021, been smoking for more than 20 years and I've seen many videos and I think I'm ready, wish me good luck and my God give me strength to do so!

30 pack year smoker....Watched this video last year October 2019, I quit smoking a month later and have not had a cigarette since. Following her instructions to harness strength from the love of my wife and children, to HATE cigarettes and what it has stolen from me & my family. Get emotional about quitting, it works.
👏👏 Congratulations!!! - Nasia
Because of this Ted talk it was really easy to quit smoking. Even on my first day I only felt happy en relieved instead of horrible with cravings.
I even took a couple of beers on the first day because I immediately felt that 'it' worked for me:D
I smoked from 14 until 33 years, 25 sigarettes a day and I never tried to quit before. Im smoke free since May 19th 2020 and I thank u Nasia Davos.
U changed my life and I thank u for that!

This is probably the best advice on quitting that I have ever heard and I have been smoking for 10 years now. I will put this advice to good use.
It’s been 4 days, a lot more to come!!

Alochol & Tobacco , the worst legal drugs. 😑
In your dreams it looks like that.
I hate the government not making it illegal, selfish people causing harm to generations after generation
Smoking weed can also be carcinogenic.
I thought it was a large mole.

Yeah it’s hard to quit. Don’t beat yourself up if you fell back to it. Keep fighting and work on changing your thinking about it.
I put out my last cigarette 10 minutes ago and I’m looking forward to a life without addiction!
Hows it going sam? Still smoke free? I hope so. God bless you man!
Uh oh
How’s it going ?
Nice tips, thanks, I used to be a stress smoker, something changed... realized that stress is an illusion...now is all and all is now
So many in the comments here, saying they watched this 17-minute talk and successfully quit smoking because of it.
Im in my 10th day mark and i can totally relate to u i was a heavy smoker for 19year
All my friend are smoker not a single one i will the first
I made cold turkey i was fed up and evry night i used to take oath for not smoking
After many tries to quit smoking (and then started again after few months), I found the most important part of success is very simple.... Love yourself. Value yourself and your body. Second pillar is... Let the emotions flow freely throughout and out of your body... Including negative ones. Those two points are crucial IMHO.
agree!!
This speech is one of the best speeches I have heard on smokers and why we do what we do and how to help yourself. I mean I have personally gone through those thoughts and what Ross said makes perfect sense to me. Thank you very much ma'am.
