i20N was doomed from the start, clearly a fiesta fanboy
This is the first RUclips review where someone thought the Fiesta was the better car lol
@@ZachNovak
Not true.
ruclips.net/video/qM4h0Y9G2_M/видео.html
Definitely not the first to say the fiesta is better.
Oh yeah. He sets the bar pretty high with the FIST
@@nothanks6665 And it isn't
The heck is with this review, you’d expect going in with an unbiased opinion rather than saying “the fiesta is the best hot hatch. Can the i20N be the fiesta” it’s a different car that will have different pros and cons. I never thought having 3 different choices for an exhaust note would be a con because (stupidly) you can’t decide what mode you want to be choosing as you’re driving?
How about wanting a quiet note in the early morning, or opening up the valve when you get in for a weekend drive.
Might need to broaden your view a bit
His point is: if you have no choice you can't get confused. In other words: you eat up what is on the plate and sh*t up.
quite biased this one... a shame...
@@pedroamado5706 He is biased because you didn't like his conclusion... or there is another reason?
The video should be titled how good the Fiesta ST is, and not a comparison video.
exactly lol, majority of other reviewers have said how neutral and planted the I20n is compared to the more rowdy FiST.
This guy talks the talk but always and I mean ALWAYS favours the bigger brand. He just cannot bare to say that a Hyundai or a Kia or whatever is better.
@@crocoman776 I personally don't favour either brand, but the review just seemed so biased to me. I like Honda's, but the Type R is out of my price range. Biased reviews wont help me find the right car!
@@crocoman776 I'm the opposite. Ive always favoured brands that the masses/sheep don't follow.
I20N....Get mine tomorrow...can't wait. Thanks for the bias review
Congrats mines on order, still months away! Have fun!!
I've driven a Fiesta ST and its a superb hot hatch, I have however, not driven a i20N but I really want to, just like the i30N.
I would say I'm bias towards the Fiesta in some regard, but I am ALL for the i20N all day.
@@Leo-rm3gt I had my car over in Scotland through the amazing B roads....its mega. In a large group of i30Ns it was able to push in some places....I'm stoked at what it can do

@@Leo-rm3gt I had an i30N for almost 3 year...fantastic car...probably the best I've ever driven. The i20N....wow....amazing....its a rally car 🏁
Surly comparing the 120N to the very top of the range ST performance Edition isn’t a fair comparison when their is nearly a 5k price gap isn’t it better to compare it to an ST further down the range?
St further down the range will only be lighter. Therefore going against your argument. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@davothegreat9990 no I was meaning an ST-3 as they are the same price the ST edition is 28/29k so what I am saying makes perfect sense.
This has to be the most bias and pointless review I've seen.
It's basically that top gear meme with the up! And the fiesta. "This is good, but this is great" seems like most people like the i20 more anyways
Couldn't agree more!
I20N would be better value, also nice warranty :)
nope
@@Vibranznl yes, coz the warranty covers track use and to get a similar spec fiesta st you would be paying about the same If not more
@@kennyd7667 That would have sold the car to me that 😂 too late though
@@kennyd7667 Yeah... same spec maybe? I got my Fiesta ST with the essential performance pack for like 70-80% of the price you can get an i20 N at. I know which is better value to me, especially after having taken one on a test drive
@@kennyd7667 who uses the track?? Like 2% of customers. Therefore void!!
I20n is probably one generation away from taking the crown. I would like to try any of them on twisty road
Is this a review or Fiesta commercial
Bit biased review but it must be vey difficult if you really like something ie the fiesta st. Price wise a new Fiesta ST3 with discount is exactly the same price as the Hyundai i20N at £23,000 (again with discount) - l think the looks, the fact it’s new on the market plus it’s 5 year warranty would swing it for me. Enjoyed the review and you certainly can drive 👍
I've ordered the N. Fiesta drives well but I don't like it's looks.
There's more standard kit with the N, the warranty is better and I find it more appealing.
I have ordered the Fiesta, because I don't quite like how N looks XD great to hear, that both are equally good, and it's more the personal taste, than a big difference between them :)
@@marcin.4379 I agree. I think Fiesta can be a little bit more fun to drive on track and more economical but i think Hyundai can be more entertaining in everyday use and more practical. But both of cars are great!

Not sure about the UK. But it has been confirmed that the Australian editions of the i20N are getting an overboost in "N" mode.
From 275 nm up to 304 nm. Making the claimed 0-100kph from 6.7 secs down to 6.2 secs. And would also give more punch out of corners.
Pricing as also being announced. With both cars will be around the same drive away pricing. We get the ST3 version only

@@davothegreat9990 Will soon find out when they get out & about in the media fleet.
The i20N has already done 6.34 in slovakia RUclips video and 6.44 in germany(JP Performance) with 2 people onboard. Both videos show loads of wheel spin so 6.2 is achievable in the right conditions
The Fiesta seems too "eager" and skittish in the corners, the i20 seems more planted, I do prefer it. I can see why people would choose the Fiesta though... more youthful in the driving, more adult in its looks (interior and exterior). The i20 is the other way around, it seems.
It seems to be, and it is if you "over drive" it like they do a lot in reviews because that makes for good video and entertainment. But as someone who drives his MK8 ST in time attack events: It can be planted too if you trail brake it properly. I even put mine to -2 degrees camber front to get even more front bite... and it still can take a bit more, even though it already is really good at it. FWD setups just have to be very "eager" imo.
FiST runs a narrower tyre.
It's funny when people get less options they whinge about it. And now when Hyundai gives you more setting options, you whinge about taking a long time to find the best option? Sick
Ppl ate never happy with what you give them.
But once the manufacturers take all the fun away from cars and no modes and no sound. Then they will complain about that!
I'm just happy with any company that is making any type of sports cars and manual.
Every chav and his dog has an ST. Wife just bought an i20N and I had a quick test drive. What a weapon in the corners, and the brakes are SOLID!
I just bought an i20N even after watching this review, looks way sexier than the Ford!
These prices are Outrageous. Only in 2016 the Renault sport Mégane 275 was £23,950
Well.... welcome to inflation
@@kennyd7667 Yeah I get that. Except inflation has been rock bottom for years. The real problem is hyperinflation. How much is a Fiesta ST going to be in 4 yrs?
@@Stringwar that is a good point tbh. The prices are probably gonna get expensive, that is if ford keep making the fiesta st or they turn it into a hybrid or something
@@kennyd7667 when the first ST came out it was about £18k. If you put that into the bank of England inflation calculator it comes out at about £22k. The Germans have been doing this for years. My buddy is a sales rep and he's always had Audi's, hes gone from A6 to A5 and now for the same money his company is only willing to pay for an A1 or Merc A class.
Current Megane RS Trophy is around £38k now with DCT. I almost bought a manual Trophy 300 18 months ago when I bought my i30N and I was quoted £29k with a couple of options. List was around £32k with no options.
The issue now is option lists are getting taken away for WLTP compliance and the Trophy now gets loaded with more equipment but they pushed the price up.

Yes, a track batlle with a 208 GTI BPS/30th will be interesting
No winner or loser in this test. Both are fantastic. I’ve got an ST I’d to go for a spin a i20N
The problem with the Fiesta ST is not its performance, but that it looks as dull as ditch water inside and out. It just looks like any other Fiesta and I'd want something with a visual pop to match the exhaust note.
What do you mean? The front looks amazing, much better than a mk7
Anyone know the track in the background?
I will pick the i20N
He almost flew out of the bend with that Fiesta. LoL.
Anyone looking at this or a fiesta ST…. Test drove the i20N yesterday with the idea of throwing my money at them after getting out the car with all that I’ve heard, unfortunately that didn’t happen. It was great fun and the rev matching is addictive but the suspension is so harsh! it couldn’t be a daily unless you have ultra smooth roads (we don’t in the UK) its a real shame really as its the main sticking point. If your looking for a weekend car or you like occasionally going to a track then buy this and don’t hesitate you will love it but if you need it to also go into town or drive to work you may get a bit fed up with it. I tested the Fiesta ST as well and its definitely noticeable how more compliant it is, still firm but more tolerable day to day and still gave me the biggest smile driving, ordering my ST this week, im almost disappointed as i was really hoping to prefer the I20N.
The fiesta is so cool but I reckon I'd go i20 just to give it a go!
Does the i20n a harder ride ?
My Mk3 Focus ST has a 91 (US) tune, Pro Alloy intercooler, Quaife LSD, Mountune intake and cat-back exhaust, Ford racing springs and Powerstop pads and rotors. 10 years of fun and still absolutely dependable. Has the original clutch, too.
That has nothing to do with Ford factory clutch durability, you just know how to drive a manual better than others
I'm intrigued by the i20 N but I will go for the Fiesta St just because of the looks . And I like the 3 pot more
Lol the fiesta looks like your grandspa car 😂😂😂
absolutely love the use of dnb
Great video and comparison. 2 fantastic Hot Hatches. I owned a 2015 Mini JCW and traded in for a new MK8 Fiesta ST. I have no regrets! More fun to drive and not much difference in power !
Feeling the itching for a mk7 fiesta ST
Sorry mate I20N wins me over. You can keep your Fiesta.

I love your stuf but do we listen to you or the music in the background, I thought it was my tv
The background music should be a bit lower imo. Hopefully the editors fix this in the next video, it reminds me of old top gear with music way too loud
Where was the exhaust noise?
Whats with that REV button?
Man… I sure wish they gave us the new FiST in the states.
I had a FiST and Loved it!
Landed up getting a Veloster N. Which is like a grown up FiST.
If we had the i20N I’d have gotten that tho..
those two small hot hatches u can use all the power. Even stock the Velo N can’t be fully stretched on the road.
Of course my dumb ass did the FBO, tune, meth, big turbo thing on mine. Well I’m waiting on my turbo to come .. Garrett GTX2867R gen II.. finally came in. LAP3 is doing the turbo kit.
500bhp Velo N should be fun tho
This is his opinion as a very competent driver so listen to him
He just favours the Fiesta ST.
It began with his criticism about the seats in the i20N.
Man everybody has other impressions. Very one-sided review.
Because the st is a better car
Q: "Lol, why don't you like the car?"
This guy: The seats aren't as nice as the ones in the car I actually like...
The only review I've seen in which the i20N isn't deemed better than the Fiesta (in three door form, no less, for the practicality advantage? Oh wait...)
very good review
Excellent review!! Much appreciated!! I am excited about the i20N, for me the interior looks waaaay better than the Ford!! I didn’t expect it to be as good a drive on the 1st attempt as the Fiesta, but as you say, not much in it!! Which is great news!
Lastly - I must say, personally, I hate the two-tone colours nowadays - hate it!! The i20N should not have a black roof, there is already the red tints at the bottom of the car that make it look sporty, no need to have blue and black!! The i30N doesn’t do it, that is my only gripe - so for me the only colour I can consider with the i20N is black, which is annoying, because that Bronze colour looks really good too 😫
06:07 ‘They feel very similar - quite tense’
06:19 ‘But they’re not brittle, crashy or tense’

Both affordable by proper fun cars, with very different approaches!
I’m interested to see your thought because I’d love to buy the new Fiesta ST, but am currently weighting up against the GR86!

Even IF you were correct, I'd choose the N because it looks 10x better (IMO)
I'm 47. When I was younger I drove a Civic Type R EP3, I loved that vehicle. The Fiesta ST somehow reminds me of it. A more civilized version of that CTR, that is. But you need a bit more of civilized when you get old. ;)
This review pretty much means your going to have to drive both to know which one you want. I think theres a 4k difference between them though if you want to top end options. Im curious to hear how good that i20n exhaust sounds.
Has anyone in the UK checked the difference in financing them?
Well the i20n comes with everything the top of the range ST does so comparably the i20n is cheaper you would have to buy the Fiesta st performance,
Ik im 11 months late but if you want the Fiesta with everything included bells and whistles its more expensive than the i20n. With the i20n its a set price though. Everything is included in the price so it hasnt got a cheaper option. To get it in the blue colour is 25,800 in the UK

@iNSTAGiB a common misconception is that all renaults have poor reliability. . . Now that might be true of non renaultsport renaults (never owned one) but the renaultsports were built in a completely separate factory and are built to be thrashed.
Owned a 197 then a 200 for 3 years ragged it frequently and never had any issues whatsoever.
My current 2020 fiesta st3 I've owned for 6 months the turbo needed replacing white smoke pouring out the exhaust lol, the seat rattles and the front suspension rattled too but fixed under warranty.
As polite as I can be... The fiesta is more childish and absolutely adorable little monster and the I20 has the looks of a lunatic but a more grown-up driving style while maintaining practicality for a small family... If I could I would buy them both cause I absolutely love them equally... I grew up with hyundais and I bought a fiesta as my first car and its not an ST but its crazy either way

They don't have any. All of the showroom cars and demos were immediately bought. No i20Ns in the country until September.
Given the reputation of Ford (sets itself on fire) and the quaility of Hyundai nowdays, you cannot compare the two. Would take the i20N without a question.
And also you configure your favourite driving options, so you haven't to do it every time.
It's abit unfair to compare the ST edition with coilovers. Why not compare the standard ST?

Such a bad and bias review 😂 what car lover doesn't want loads of settings? Have the car exactly how you like it. I have an m2 and always changing stuff. I like the fiesta, but for me the i20 is better overall. my mrs gets hers in a couple of months.
Just hope the Fiesta doesn't have to be scrapped after 50k miles like many of the three cylinder eco boosts.
I had a mk7 st. Something about that car made it special. Don't get that with the i20n.
i would consider the comparison more fair, if fiesta was using the stock dumpers and not coil-over ones.
As we all know coil overs can transform a car, making it more comfortable for the everyday driver, and same time more sport by letting you change the stock camber, caster and toe numbers. Furthermore coil overs let you change both bound and rebound. Stock st dumpers are really annoying for everyday drive, and ford knows that, so to deal with this, they gave the 28.000 pounds edition, so as to keep this con secret. Finally, for the more ...punchy top end of the ford, i would like to know what boost the ford runs, above 6.000 rpms. I20N drops boost below 1 bar above 6.000 rpms (0,8-0,9) for long run reliability and to keep the engine strong. If ford uses 1.2-1.4 bar boost them in the long run i see a lot of engine funerals. That why hyunday gives 5 years warranty without miles limitation, and ford gives only 2 years. ( i speak for factory quaranties).
Great small hot hatches!
Yea these reviewers never talk about reliability.
Idk how the i20N is tuned from factory, but in my 2k18 i30N boost falls of in the higher revs aswell to about 0.8-0.9bar as you say.
Ford gives 3 years/60,000 miles warranty in the UK. Obviously not as good as 5 years, but pretty standard for non-Korean brands.
@@Xenon0000000000001 Hyundai is so confident about their product, that they cover the i20n for track use too. Why do you think ford does not cover track usage? Prefer the reliability of the Hyundai engine over the Ford. Drive modes are easy to follow, and shouldn’t be bewildering for an “experienced” tester. I also noticed you didn’t put them head to head for an objective test.
they made the st look like a golf, and stopped making it for the US market
A huge one for me is the i20N has auto rev-matching (a feature usually reserved for more expensive hot hatches) whereas the Fiesta ST does not.
Why not rev match normally??
@@jimmihall1347 It's just a nice to have
i kinda prefer i20n as it's as fun as Fiesta and much more stable throughout the corner.. while Fiesta kinda aggressive
So Dan is confused by the choice of settings in the Hyundai? Maybe he should get another job that won't tax his brain cells too much, when did options become a bad thing?
Nobody complained that the i30N had an individual setting to set the car as you'd like it, diff, exhaust, throttle, steering, damping, with multiple settings, plus Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N individual but many journalist complained that the Focus ST didn't have individual settings so to get it sounding it's best you had to put up with rock hard suspension settings. As a note the i30N has more settings as it has adaptive dampers which aren't on the i20N and sometimes you might not want the full on pops and bangs of the exhaust in it's most expressive setting.
Yeah, this *_'comparison'_* seemed like a sales video for the Fiesta...

Just a reminder that the i20n is £25k and includes everything! The ST driven here costs £29. I rate Hyundai because the colour is the only extra you get to pick, as it should be. As for the review, i came for a comparison and got a bias opinion instead..

Unfortunately, not enough people in the US would buy this. They can’t even muster the enthusiast demand for the new Toyota Yaris GRMN and Honda Fit. In the US, the cheapest Ford Mustang is $27K, at $35K you can get a record breaking 306hp Honda Civic Type R or $30K for a 275hp Hyundai Veloster N.
I guess the best thing to do if you’re super hatch enthusiast in America is to become a mechanic and build your own hot hatches 😅
@@SilverScarletSpider See my other reply. We would NEVER have to pay that price for these cars in our market - that's the UK / EU pricing, which is higher for all cars, not just Fords. Seriously, don't compare the price without understanding that first, it's completely wrong.
We got very lucky in Australia. Neither Ford nor Hyundai sell the normal base version of the Fiesta or i20 but luckily our hot hatch market is still thriving and so we still get the hot hatch variants
