- The Ford Focus ST might be our Best Hot Hatch for 2022, but it’s a different story when it comes to track testing 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
We named the Ford Focus ST our Best Hot Hatch for 2022 earlier this month, just days before it and its little brother were sadly and unexpectedly axed Down Under.
But when road driving is removed from the equation and it comes down to racetrack performance testing, including 0-100km/h acceleration runs and lap times, an entirely different pecking order emerges.

Just got my i20n today love it
Take it easy, keep it shiny.
How the ride quality in the I20n ?
We don’t get that car here in the u.s but just got a 2023 Kona N love it .. I’ve had many gtis .. but this is just a lot harder in everything.. ruff ride but I love it!
@@ljp1942 Its definitely on the firm side which I like
@@brianreardon7700 awesome so much tech
As a focus ST owner, gotta hand it to the i30N. Especially with the DCT, it's ridiculously quick for a FWD car. 👍
Yes, the automatic gearbox on the focus st is really badly managed...
Dear god, a 4wd manual versus an autobox is no comparison.
@@barrypickles6546 what are you talking about? All these cars are FWD.
@@cy9nvsAHH, 4wd versus Fwd. I see. Been looking at the focus RS AWD recently.
I came here for the small hatch comparison of I20 & ST
What a great range of cars, so proud of the little bargain i20n as I have one, and great to see the i30n do soooo well on this track😃😃😃
Like me too. So proud 😊
Hyundai did an amazing job.
Nice test! Congrats.
Ordered the I30N DCT.. happy to hear the fun factor is high. Would like to know how it holds up against Megan RS , new civic Type R and Golf GTI CLUB SPORT.
I'm shocked at how well the GTi did in the laptime. I thought it might be further back, but the mk8 really is doing such a great job of keeping the balance of ultimate daily while also having the performance side of things.
Great video, I'd love to see more like this. (especially with onboard laps)
Huge mistake lifting in the turn-in with the Fords. Almost all Fords are tuned to be tail-happy so that you can easily rotate them and adjust your angle on the apex. Should have turned in while still on power, lifted to rotate and shot your way out. Fiesta's lap hurts to watch. I have no opinion on the i20 or the i30 though, since I haven't pushed one of those yet, but congrats to the N division for these badass cars.
Would've been good to see a difference with the Lap 1 time vs a lap 5 time. See how the tyres & brakes hold up.. Also with engine heat soak.
Other than that it's a great comparison. Sad that Ford have discontinued both the Focus St & Fiesta ST
The fiesta ST with those little brakes after 2 laps catches fire probably...
N = God Mode
I currently own the i20n and it is a really fun car to drive. I just dont like how plastic rattles here and there though. What I just dont like is here in NZ, people like to chase and stick really close behind me. I’m like what are you tryna prove to me? 😂
Good video guys
Lost at least a second in unnecessary wheel spin launching the golf and focus, and although I respect the Hyundai, it seems that there is a little too much talking it up when they understeer considerably more than a focus, Megan, or type R. Tyres also have a serious impact on times, easily varying 1 to 2 seconds, and especially for launching a FWD, or multiple hard laps prior to setting a lap time.
That was a great track test by Luke youlden
Very well done. Please more track videos like this. Love the oversteer in the Fiesta ST but wow did he hit/crashed into that curb hard. Had to hurt the times with that driving style. Luke stating they need a Polo R completely overlooks the fundamental flaws that the Polo GTI has. Adding power and awd will not fix th car. Should have had Scott do this video
Seems to be an issue over the fiesta run, am I wrong in assuming these were the best times of multiple runs?
Great video. subs are on the way.
Wow.. very much nice
great stuff lads i think there all very good cars i will take the ford focus thanks..
Not for much longer bro.
@@ljp1942 yes i know very stupid.. Ford baffles me with some of their decisions..
Lol the chasi of i20n is ahead all of these cars! If i20n had a little more power like throwing a racechip to it it should finish first!! For its cost its obviously the winner here!
Yes plus i30n was auto so quicker gear changes. You're right if chipped the more agile i20n would surely come a lot closer.
Great review just dissapointing theyre not manual
Focus ST with manuel transmission would have done a better laptime
N 🤟
Where’s the Cupra Leon?
I love all these car reviews, but so many YT channels seem to suggest that if you aint driving a manual, you are not a real driver. Time to be real, manuals are for enthusiasts.
The Fiesta could have done a better job if he did it over. He lost a half second on the curve.
The brakes are also bad on the Fiesta, especially when racing on a circuit.
I remember when "hatch" meant a small car.
why not compare with a golf clubsport? or a cupra leon 300? the gti is far underpowered compared to the focus and i30n
We do not get the Golf Clubsport in Australia and our top spec Cupra is the Leon VZx which is $10,000 more than the I30N so it's in the class above the cars in this video.
@@jeanblue8424 Oh my bad. I30n and cupra leon are very close priced here in europe
He needs to do the fiesta again I’ve seen a mk8 st beat a Mk8 GTI before
Am I wrong in saying these were the best times of multiple runs?
Couldn't get your hands on a GR Yaris?
or a honda civic type r
It's as was stated in the 1st video. This is a FWD test. Not 4WD...
@@alpiv64 Current model no longer being built. New model not out till 2023
@@purplehazeffc Agree and wish us luck trying to get one in 2023 . I'll just keep my 2019 i30N as happy with that.
It's a much more authentic test when the driver wears a helmet.
Guess the Fiesta would be a lot closer to the i20N if he didn't hit the curbs that hard at 2:47 which almost ends in losing control...
I agree totally, pretty sure it was a ghost advertisement for Hyundai
thought it was a v8 supercar
I agree 👍
Also seen another channel drag racing the ST against the i20N and the ST edged it in a straight line on multiple runs, pre-faced lifted model with slightly less torque 👍
@@stephenheyes1487 exactly, him saying that the I20n edged the fiesta in 3rd gear acceleration is bs, the only time the Hyundai is quicker in acceleration is off the mark
Wheres A46, Golf R the top 2 of all hatch
The A45 is like $100,000 over here and the Golf R is about $70,000. Totally different class of cars.
AWD cars and way more expensive ya flop
The lap time for the i20N is almost the same as the Golf GTI's.. that speaks both about the brilliant performance of the korean mini and the abusive price of the german hatchback. There are and have been better options than the Golf for a while.
He destroyed the fiesta's lap time
why isnt toyota on it?
Unfair!!
Buying a car in Australia is a joke, one has to rob a bank to have a car. People in Australia have more money than sense. A car is no longer a necessity but a commodity. A car is a luxury item and for anyone that is not earning a tradie wage or a lawyers wage will miss out. Any retired senior wanting to upgrade, unfortunately their independence has been taken away.
Earn more money.
This is what Klaus wants.
He makes a big mistake by entering that corner too fast with the fiesta which messes up his lap time more than he suggests. He's also the only reviewer I've ever heard saying the i20n is more fun to drive than the fiesta. Worthless review of the minis...
What are you talking about? Even the guy from Car Wow prefererred the I20N over the Fiesta.
I agree 💯
Righto Schumacher
Your Fiesta ST is still a great car, so calm down and go for a quick spin.
Where tf is the gr Yaris
2:47 it's not fair to him to Fiesta. I would have made a better time
Y Y Y Y u guys use the gti instead of the clubsport but u compare it with hyundai N Y Y Y
No Mazda3 Hatch, No Toyota GR Corolla, and No Honda civic type R hatch? Disappointed...
gr corolla and new civic not available in Australia yet. Mazda wont bring that 3 to Australia, its also AWD.
Awful driving! Bigger car is what a hot hatch should be? Not a chance true hot hatch should be light weight not these lard arse's
No Toyota Yaris GR 😳
Yaris is awd . These cars were all front wheel drive.
Yaris GR is way more expensive than the other small hatches, and AWD...
@@charlesdr1981 the caption was Hot hatch track test , if the criteria was front wheel the Honda Tyre R should have featured too
@@YamaOma_Kunda There is currently no 2022 Civic Type R. Yet to be released.
Technically the GR Yaris is not currently for sale.
I waited six months for my 2018 I30N and it was absolute rubbish.
So many issues i will never buy anything with a Hyundai badge again. 🤬
Wotthless comment. No details
Yeah sure boy..
