The fact that she speaks so highly of having a street mother, it speaks volumes. She’s still literally a child in an adult’s body. Her speech and holding the puppy, the reverting to that behavior in a time of stress, unreal to see in real-time in a stranger.

This video hurt worse than I was expecting. My mom passed away in 2020 from an OD, and this woman is quite literally exactly like she was. From the speech to what she’s actually saying. I hope she finds the help she desperately needs. The love she speaks of is genuine.

You can tell her life is too emotional to talk about. Those are real tears real words with real pain and trauma where being numb and suppressing is just easier. I know a lot of people who suffer from trauma who prefer to be numb and not face it. It's a scary place to go to as an adult because your reopening a trauma wound you never dealt with. The was she's holding and embracing that puppy is the way she wants to be cared for and loved. You are loved shorty god has a place for you and you have purpose.

Glad you got off coke. Please know that alcohol is a depressant, that buzz you may feel is a lie. My younger brother died from years of alcohol abuse. It runs your body. My cousin lost her son to alcohol and a family friend lost her younger brother to alcohol. Do you like to surf, hike, run, dance, build stuff, paint, garden? Do anything else but drink, it's a killer.
The Pain shot out at me from the 1st time she began her story.....I so hope she finds some means of therapy and Peace, because she's been in such Pain from a lack of Love from the start. The amount of people who are calling her disgusting or deplorable for having that amount of children-take into consideration how much drugs impact your judgment and decision making, think about how sexual assault is very common in large cities especially when drugs are in the picture, think about how birth control is difficult enough to get access to when you have insurance let alone when you’re uninsured and on the street. I pray you find peace Shorty. Your answer to Mark’s question about what you have learned from life was profound. It takes a lot for us addicts to see the forest for the trees. As a mother it’s very difficult to live sober after losing your children. It’s not impossible though. That hole all humans have inside of us is meant for the Holy Spirit to fill. I never thought I would be the one who was always trying to get others to know my God. It’s the only thing that I have to hold onto sometimes. He is the only difference in this recovery compared to ones past. I just hit 7 years and 4 months. My heart hurts so much for all the mothers like me. You are beautiful and you are loved. Even though you are not with them, they will always need you. They might not say it but it’s true. Take care.
This is absolutely true. When my kids were removed the only thing that kept me sober is my caseworker telling me things to do and keep doing and they would be back in my custody...3 mths I tried my way it didn't work it never does so I did what they (the state) said and after 9 long excruciatingly lonely months my babies were back with me but I didn't believe it would happen. My best friend is going through a similar situation but some of her kids are adopted out and now they're reaching out to her after years, Our kids will Always come back around Always❤️

I’ve been sober for 20 years and went to school to become a substance abuse counselor and I works with youth. I always tell them the drugs are secondary, it’s what is n your head and heart where the healing ❤️🩹 starts. We have to let go of the guilt, shame, regret and work on putting ourselves first and love ourselves for how strong we are. Not everyone makes it out of this. Her story is like a puzzle, you have to piece it together. The point to all these stories is DON'T DO DRUGS. I know bad shit happens to people, very bad things, I went thru some bad shit. Once you pick up that pipe or needle it goes down hill fast from there. There's always someone out there who can help. Thank you Marc for putting out these videos. I'm sorry for the the shit you've gone through. I hope you're doing better now. I agree with you about not doing drugs. However, I don't believe teenagers watch this channel. Something tells me the audience in here are people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Many of them probably have children and grandchildren. I pray that people will take these stories to heart for real and that they will talk to the children about bullying, abuse, rasisme, sexuality, drugs and so on. If we just would care more about other people, the world would be a much better place than it is now. There's so much hate, judgement and negativity. We need to show love and acceptance. If there were no bullying, no hate, no stigma, no feelings of being an outsider, there would be very few school shootings, murders, and suicides. People who fee loved, included, and are happy, don't hurt themselves or others.

I didn't understand the whole story but I took it that she was attacked or felt attacked and it may have been seen as self defense if she was outside, which she said they were, but she was convicted. She said she has no memory, maybe she was attacked and got triggered to defend herself. Maybe she was inside robbing someone. Who knows if it actually happened or if it was some other conviction, but it seems like she did not see it as murdering the other person.

I know enough druggies to know it's not a place for pets (or kids). The animals suffer even if they get loved and fed well. It's just the unbalanced lifestyle, there's a lot of commotion. And more so; the animals end up inhaling the same drugs their owners are smoking - pot, crack, heroin, whatever is being smoked the pets are passively smoking it too. So sorry to say this, but Shorty shouldn't have this puppy. Adults make decisions, but pets (and kids) are innocent and shouldn't be brought into that lifestyle.
We’re all looking for love and acceptance. These people live a very lonely and horrible life and im not saying that a puppy should be living in a tent with her but they take any bit of happiness they can get and animals definitely offer unconditional love. So if something like a puppy with help her then so be it let’s just hope she takes care of it.
That puppy needs to be taken to a proper home. I am terrified for both of them, but the puppy could easily be saved from the suffering that awaits it on the streets.
That dog might just save her life. And for all we know she might have saved its. The streets are cold and lonely. The warmth of another body, human or animal makes more difference in strength both emotionally and physically that most of us can imagine. Concrete is icy even through a mat should one be lucky enough to have that. She knows when it is time to let go. She found that husky, and she saved it. She will always do right by that puppy.

@Jedimaster420 Everyone said it would take therapy at least 3 times a week for years for me, too. I was as “bad” as her on drugs. All it took was a good Intensive Outpatient Program (half day, 3-4x/wk for a few months) and to go back to school and have something meaningful to do and learn. People who have been through a lot have things to process, but we also (typically) develop more resilience, at the same time. Meth and other drugs cause emotional turbulence. When I left the drugs alone and got my Bipolar Disorder treated, I behaved like a whole different person. My emotions became a lot more even. Hardly anyone can use drugs and not seem moody, after awhile. That’s why treatment centers don’t give a mental health diagnosis, or prognosis, in early recovery…because drugs alone can make you a basket case.

Shorty is such an inspiration, I admire her tenacity in the face of so much adversity, and her using that dog as a comforting/coping mechanism is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Of all the interviews I've watched on SWU - this one has broke my heart. Shorty doesn't deserve the hand that she has been dealt. I can't imagine anyone going through life feeling completely unloved but it's obviously a very common emotion in this world. I wish I could take her under my wing and give her a home and love but that's not possible so I'm sending all my love to you Shorty and you'll be in my prayers.

Yes, I'm street mom to a young woman. She's had a horrible life. She says that having someone in her life who cares makes all the difference. When I was a homeless kid, I had a godfather. Because of him I'm still alive.

It’s so sad to see someone in such a desperate state because of their struggles with drugs, caused by trauma and horrible foundations due to lack of a healthy family structure. I hope Shorty has an opportunity to get some help, learn to heal, and get back on track.
Hope she gets better. Playing a little innocent girl victim won't help to much, she should own up to her mistakes, if you never admit what you do wrong, you can never fix it. I know she's had a tough life but I've been an addict and been to rehab. I could hear my old counselor jumping on her about certain things. She tore me a knew asshole in front of our whole class, she did it to everybody. We needed it and loved her very much for doing so. Including myself, addicts are master manipulators and bullshitters in order to get what they want. They can play whatever role they think you want them to play to get what they want. God is the only thing that saved me.

Some people think by feeling bad for everyone and erasing fault for everyone makes them a good person so they do so for what it gives them. Addicts know that it works for them, which we see in the comments, but sadly while it makes the person saying "You poor thing. Nothing's your fault", it actually helps harm the addict and when people do it all the time, it helps kill the addict. Personal responsibility and ownership is our power, addicts and non-addicts alike. Stripping their power, how is anyone suppose to have the strength to fight the biggest battle of their life, which only they can do. Those crying "Poor baby" sign off, feeling special, and these people are left further in an addict lifestyle and weaker than they were before due to it, which is sad and selfish.

why does it matter if she has tattoos on her face, or if she's smoking math or meth, or if that dog is safe with her. Why are so many concerned with her children, before throwing any stones, make sure none are coming back to you. We are quick to judge, have solutions to every problem, however one should never speak on what they know nothing about. Maybe this is her therapy, anyone who goes through trauma feels a need to tell their story over and over again, it's their way of releasing the pain. Whether she's lying or not, how does it affect any of you, for those who want to help that's awesome. It seems everyone is more concerned about the dog, about it's well being; rather than showing compassion for her. All All any of the people that come on here need is love, the need to be loved as they're, and to meet them where they're at. We judge what we don't understand; usually what we say about others is a reflection of ourselves. I'm sure most of the people that come on here to tell there story have been told most of their lives, they're no good, they will never be good, all they receive is criticism, rejection; knowing no one believes in them. In turn most of these people; unfortunately for them become what they've been told they're, unable to comprehend that they're not what others have told them they're, not knowing they don't have to accept others opinions of them as their truths. She may be a better human being than most of us on here. Usually the people who suffer the most are the ones that would give you the shirt off their backs without any hesitation. The methamphetamine can do that to a person's affect. That means their face, way of speaking, and mannerisms will have a kind of mask pulled over them. It can be flat, and then there is the speedy effect happening underneath. She is trying to talk normally but she's also speeding away underneath. The meth blunts the emotion so that's the flat affect.
Yeah, she said she was in prison before she was accused of murder, so who was looking after her kids then. Obviously she's had a very chaotic life and the drugs will have worsened her mental state further.

Powerful interview. Made me choke up. She is so pure and has emotional traumas and certainly needs to heal her inner child. That puppy is in her life and I hope she can continue to keep it because that puppy is her emotional support. People really under estimate the power a connection we can have with animals. She obviously loves something about it, so much that she doesn't want to give it up for them. I know I seem kind of mean. But I'm an addict as well and I know how addicts think unfortunately. And I've met a lot of women like her. They say they love their kids, and they show pictures of their kids from like literally 5 to 10 years ago (they never have recent ones}. And they just love the attention from it all, because it paints them as a victim in a way as well. A victim of a terrible upbringing, abuse, addicted parents, etc. And it's always the reason they do what they do and are so hurt that they can't have their kids with them at whatever trap house they're crashing at nightly. But when it comes down to it, they forget about their kids like literally 5 minutes after the conversation and never bring them up again. Instead, they sit there and continue using their drug of choice, like it never happened at all. The fake sobbing and sadness are also gone the moment they've gotten what they wanted from the conversation or the person. Honestly, they're willing to say anything to get anything out of anyone. Even exploiting the children, they no longer have custody of for monetary gain or sympathy and use whoever falls for it any way they can. Btw, many of these women usually end up pregnant again and again. And are reminded of the kids they abandoned every time they glance down, I'm guessing. They always plan to "keep this one" and "do better". But most I've met were ready to pop and hadn't even been to a doctor even once during their pregnancy. And definitely continued using their whole pregnancy for a fact! It's all BS in a lot of cases. I mean how does one react to that and how are others to believe that they really want to change ever? Hell, that any of us want to change? It just gives non-addicts more ammo to use against us in a war that shouldn't have ever been waged to begin with. I have yet to see either party do better unfortunately, maybe one day. Til then, people still suck.
I feel sorry that her upbringing was really rough but where is the responsibility for your actions? 10 kids and she dosent have 1. Idk I have a lot of empathy for people but a common theme in all these videos is that they don't work take care of their children or make an effort to change themself or their circumstances.if you question them why their life is where it is it's always someone else's fault. The system their parents a spouse.When the truth is most of these people spend their days and time getting high and that is what they deem important. That is why their life is in shambles not because of trauma or circumstances I understand trauma makes drugs feel like an escape but I had a crappy upbringing lost both parents young and I still raised my children and go to work every day because having food home security is important to me. Point is until they take personal accountability and are willing to work nothing is gonna change. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

The lack of priority I guess .. my father being one of these people , has been the absolute best dad I can safely say that I have had such a great dad compared to anyone I know even my own cousins .. he chose to give us a great life instead of drowning his sorrows but many people hurt those that love them By only being defined by their traumatic pasts .. they keep the cycle going instead of ending it and I’m a product of someone who chose to break the cycle and I am beyond grateful for my family , and how I was raised.

You can tell her life is too emotional to talk about. Those are real tears real words with real pain and trauma where being numb and suppressing is just easier. I know a lot of people who suffer from trauma who prefer to be numb and not face it. It's a scary place to go to as an adult because your reopening a trauma wound you never dealt with. I pray you find peace Shorty. Your answer to Mark’s question about what you have learned from life was profound. It takes a lot for us addicts to see the forest for the trees. As a mother it’s very difficult to live sober after losing your children. It’s not impossible though. That hole all humans have inside of us is meant for the Holy Spirit to fill. I never thought I would be the one who was always trying to get others to know my God. It’s the only thing that I have to hold onto sometimes. He is the only difference in this recovery compared to ones past. I just hit 7 years and 4 months. My heart hurts so much for all the mothers like me. You are beautiful and you are loved. Even though you are not with them, they will always need you. They might not say it but it’s true. Take care.
This is absolutely true. When my kids were removed the only thing that kept me sober is my caseworker telling me things to do and keep doing and they would be back in my custody...3 mths I tried my way it didn't work it never does so I did what they (the state) said and after 9 long excruciatingly lonely months my babies were back with me but I didn't believe it would happen. My best friend is going through a similar situation but some of her kids are adopted out and now they're reaching out to her after years, Our kids will Always come back around Always❤️

I’ve been sober for 20 years and went to school to become a substance abuse counselor and I works with youth. I always tell them the drugs are secondary, it’s what is n your head and heart where the healing ❤️🩹 starts. We have to let go of the guilt, shame, regret and work on putting ourselves first and love ourselves for how strong we are. Not everyone makes it out of this. However, I don't believe teenagers watch this channel. Something tells me the audience in here are people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Many of them probably have children and grandchildren.

If we just would care more about other people, the world would be a much better place than it is now. There's so much hate, judgement and negativity.
We need to show love and acceptance.

I didn't understand the whole story but I took it that she was attacked or felt attacked and it may have been seen as self defense if she was outside, which she said they were, but she was convicted. She said she has no memory, maybe she was attacked and got triggered to defend herself. Maybe she was inside robbing someone. Who knows if it actually happened or if it was some other conviction, but it seems like she did not see it as murdering the other person.
Not sure she should have a dog. Dogs are a big responsibility on many levels. She can't really take care of herself.

I know enough druggies to know it's not a place for pets (or kids). The animals suffer even if they get loved and fed well. It's just the unbalanced lifestyle, there's a lot of commotion. And more so; the animals end up inhaling the same drugs their owners are smoking - pot, crack, heroin, whatever is being smoked the pets are passively smoking it too. So sorry to say this, but Shorty shouldn't have this puppy. Adults make decisions, but pets (and kids) are innocent and shouldn't be brought into that lifestyle.
And the biggest and worst of all drugs that’s legal is ALCOHOL… it’s broken more families, and drunk drivers!! It’s disgusting

@Jedimaster420 Everyone said it would take therapy at least 3 times a week for years for me, too. I was as “bad” as her on drugs. All it took was a good Intensive Outpatient Program (half day, 3-4x/wk for a few months) and to go back to school and have something meaningful to do and learn. People who have been through a lot have things to process, but we also (typically) develop more resilience, at the same time. Meth and other drugs cause emotional turbulence. When I left the drugs alone and got my Bipolar Disorder treated, I behaved like a whole different person. My emotions became a lot more even. Hardly anyone can use drugs and not seem moody, after awhile. That’s why treatment centers don’t give a mental health diagnosis, or prognosis, in early recovery…because drugs alone can make you a basket case.

I wish I could be more empathetic towards her, but harming an animal and continually having children u can’t care for... I really can’t justify under these circumstances. If something happens to this puppy, she’ll probably just get another🙁

Of all the interviews I've watched on SWU - this one has broke my heart. Shorty doesn't deserve the hand that she has been dealt. I can't imagine anyone going through life feeling completely unloved but it's obviously a very common emotion in this world. I wish I could take her under my wing and give her a home and love but that's not possible so I'm sending all my love to you Shorty and you'll be in my prayers.

Hope she gets better. Playing a little innocent girl victim won't help to much, she should own up to her mistakes, if you never admit what you do wrong, you can never fix it. I know she's had a tough life but I've been an addict and been to rehab. I could hear my old counselor jumping on her about certain things. She tore me a knew asshole in front of our whole class, she did it to everybody. We needed it and loved her very much for doing so. Including myself, addicts are master manipulators and bullshitters in order to get what they want. They can play whatever role they think you want them to play to get what they want. God is the only thing that saved me.

Some people think by feeling bad for everyone and erasing fault for everyone makes them a good person so they do so for what it gives them. Addicts know that it works for them, which we see in the comments, but sadly while it makes the person saying "You poor thing. Nothing's your fault", it actually helps harm the addict and when people do it all the time, it helps kill the addict. Personal responsibility and ownership is our power, addicts and non-addicts alike. Stripping their power, how is anyone suppose to have the strength to fight the biggest battle of their life, which only they can do. Those crying "Poor baby" sign off, feeling special, and these people are left further in an addict lifestyle and weaker than they were before due to it, which is sad and selfish.

why does it matter if she has tattoos on her face, or if she's smoking math or meth, or if that dog is safe with her. Why are so many concerned with her children, before throwing any stones, make sure none are coming back to you. We are quick to judge, have solutions to every problem, however one should never speak on what they know nothing about. Maybe this is her therapy, anyone who goes through trauma feels a need to tell their story over and over again, it's their way of releasing the pain. Whether she's lying or not, how does it affect any of you, for those who want to help that's awesome. It seems everyone is more concerned about the dog, about it's well being; rather than showing compassion for her. All All any of the people that come on here need is love, the need to be loved as they're, and to meet them where they're at. We judge what we don't understand; usually what we say about others is a reflection of ourselves. I'm sure most of the people that come on here to tell there story have been told most of their lives, they're no good, they will never be good, all they receive is criticism, rejection; knowing no one believes in them. In turn most of these people; unfortunately for them become what they've been told they're, unable to comprehend that they're not what others have told them they're, not knowing they don't have to accept others opinions of them as their truths. She may be a better human being than most of us on here. Usually the people who suffer the most are the ones that would give you the shirt off their backs without any hesitation. Everyone deserves to be heard, we all have a story to tell, no one's story is better than the others, everyone's story is important. Maybe we should listen without judgment, be kind, have compassion. We never know what life has in store for us, we don't know if we could be telling this story as our own.

The methamphetamine can do that to a person's affect. That means their face, way of speaking, and mannerisms will have a kind of mask pulled over them. It can be flat, and then there is the speedy effect happening underneath. She is trying to talk normally but she's also speeding away underneath. The meth blunts the emotion so that's the flat affect.
Yeah, she said she was in prison before she was accused of murder, so who was looking after her kids then. Obviously she's had a very chaotic life and the drugs will have worsened her mental state further.
Its everyone's fault but her own . She will never get better with that mindset.

Powerful interview. Made me choke up. She is so pure and has emotional traumas and certainly needs to heal her inner child. That puppy is in her life and I hope she can continue to keep it because that puppy is her emotional support. People really under estimate the power a connection we can have with animals.

i guarantee she doesn't want to but definitely knows that. im willing to bet that she likes the thought of being "the mother full of sorrow and guilt of the loss of her children" And likes to seem humbled and concerned in the eyes of others. Because then she won't be judged as harshly as she knows she should be. She chose to give them up. And to stay away even until now. She obviously loves something about it, so much that she doesn't want to give it up for them. I know I seem kind of mean. But I'm an addict as well and I know how addicts think unfortunately. And I've met a lot of women like her. They say they love their kids, and they show pictures of their kids from like literally 5 to 10 years ago (they never have recent ones}. And they just love the attention from it all, because it paints them as a victim in a way as well. A victim of a terrible upbringing, abuse, addicted parents, etc. And it's always the reason they do what they do and are so hurt that they can't have their kids with them at whatever trap house they're crashing at nightly. But when it comes down to it, they forget about their kids like literally 5 minutes after the conversation and never bring them up again. Instead, they sit there and continue using their drug of choice, like it never happened at all. The fake sobbing and sadness are also gone the moment they've gotten what they wanted from the conversation or the person. Honestly, they're willing to say anything to get anything out of anyone. Even exploiting the children, they no longer have custody of for monetary gain or sympathy and use whoever falls for it any way they can. Btw, many of these women usually end up pregnant again and again. And are reminded of the kids they abandoned every time they glance down, I'm guessing. They always plan to "keep this one" and "do better". But most I've met were ready to pop and hadn't even been to a doctor even once during their pregnancy. And definitely continued using their whole pregnancy for a fact! It's all BS in a lot of cases. I mean how does one react to that and how are others to believe that they really want to change ever? Hell, that any of us want to change? It just gives non-addicts more ammo to use against us in a war that shouldn't have ever been waged to begin with. I have yet to see either party do better unfortunately, maybe one day. Til then, people still suck.

Point is until they take personal accountability and are willing to work nothing is gonna change. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

The lack of priority I guess .. my father being one of these people , has been the absolute best dad I can safely say that I have had such a great dad compared to anyone I know even my own cousins .. he chose to give us a great life instead of drowning his sorrows but many people hurt those that love them
By only being defined by their traumatic pasts .. they keep the cycle going instead of ending it and I’m a product of someone who chose to break the cycle and I am beyond grateful for my family , and how I was raised.
