From this video I took that starting small is the best way to get things done. I am also a big procrastinator and I learned that doing the small tasks made me feel good and accomplished since I got it out the way. After that, I had more motivation and willpower to get the bigger tasks done.

That is exactly how I feel!! Getting the ball rolling really helps me to keep it rolling!

Let me start by saying I love these tips! I have dealt with depression and anxiety for many years now. I find the best way to manage it for myself is to find activities that will help elevate my mood. It took a long time for me to find out what those would be for myself, but once you've got an understanding of yourself and what makes you happy, it helps a lot. When I get into a negative space that I have trouble escaping, it's helpful for me to stop what I am doing and refocus my energy on something I know I will enjoy. Once I rebuild that positivity, I will jump back into whatever I was doing and pick back up.
Sometimes I can refresh after just a few minutes. Sometimes it's something I wont be able to tackle until tomorrow. Either is fine, it will still get done! I used to feel incredibly guilty doing this because I felt like I was focusing on hobbies instead of actual work that needed to be done, but over time I've realized that it is actually beneficial for me to regroup and refocus. Speaking from personal experience, usually the outcome of taking these breaks increases not only the quality of my work, but the mental state I am in for the remainder of the day.

Hi Philip!! This is such an AMAZING tip! You are so right about the guilt that comes with doing something you enjoy when there is "work" to be done. It's ok to allow ourselves some joy, even if we haven't finished our chores! Especially when it leads to lasting happiness that will get us through the tough times! How did you get so wise???

How about “eat the Tic Tac?” Great video, very helpful advice for spoonies!! ❤️

I completely agree about starting with the smallest, easiest task first because it helps build momentum and motivates you to do harder things. I hate that "eat the frog" saying. I also like what you said about lowering expectations. I live with ulcerative colitis and when I'm in a flare, it's difficult to accept that I'm not capable of doing what I can normally do when I'm in remission. But once I accept that, it takes the pressure off and makes doing things much easier!

Hi! I'm so glad this resonated with you. Everything on RUclips, TikTok, etc tells us to be a boss, do it all, bla bla bla. Some of us need to start small!!

I use a bullet journal and plan out the week with as much flexibility and rest time as possible. I do have a section for the frogs I want to eat, but if that is the priority it may well be the only task I get done. It allows me to think carefully about priorities. I have a separate journal where I do a brain dump first thing. It's a meditative activity. As much as I kick against the idea of routine I have a very basic order I do things in. Some days it's a fools errand, but it feels like I've achieved something on days I can do. Being kind to ourselves is the most important thing.

I relate 100% to everything you are saying!! Of I do actually eat a frog, it's the only thing I do that day, or for a couple of days! I could not survive without a brain dump. I have Alexas all over my house that I "dump on" 🤣 as random things come into my mind. I add them to the master to do list in my planner later. Routine is hard when you don't know what your body will do to you on any given day...and then if I don't completely the routine I feel guilty. You get me!! ❤️

I just need to express how grounding this video was for me. I’ve been crying every morning and night about how I have been trying to be better with myself forever now and I feel like I’ve gotten nowhere, but I’ve really just strayed too far from the basics. I haven’t been able to move a muscle unless my employment depends on it for months now. Watching this video reminded me that I need to accept that I am at square one and I need to build myself up thoroughly. I may have made a lot of progress in the past but I took a lot of steps back recently and I need to slow down and be patient with myself because I am not where I used to be. It sucks, it hurts to fully realize, and it’s disappointing. But it is realistic. I am not as far ahead as I was starting to be a year ago, but I am still light years ahead of where I was the last time I really felt this way. It’s hard to pick myself up. But I need to remember that motivation often follows action, not the other way around and that I am extremely capable. I hope I can continue to slow down and remember that all in the moment in the near future

I am so glad this video resonated with you in this way. I have been in exactly the place you are describing and it was so difficult mentally. Its so difficult to just accept where we are today, instead of expecting ourselves to be where we were before we were this sick. I try to keep a positive attitude always, but being realistic is so important in our situation. And being realistic isn't being negative, its just necessary for what we need to move forward. I hope to hear more about your journey in the future! Fine me on insta and keep me posted! @chronically_beautifill!

I stumbled upon your channel when I was watching craft room tours trying to get motivated to clean my craft room so I can move my bigger desk into it. I have pictured the outcome and it makes me so happy but yet I still struggle when it comes to actually getting it clean. Its like no matter what I just cannot bring myself to do it. I'm diagnosed with depression along with PTSD-long term, and anxiety. Plus I live in chronic pain. It kills me because I was that mom that lost 120 pounds and always was dressed nice with makeup and hair done all while being a single mom. Thankfully I met a man that has stood by me through it all. Hopefully one day I will be that mom again. I know your video helped me realize that as long as I'm doing something more each day then I will get back there. I had already started setting a goal or 2 small ones a day. I have also realized the seasons affect my depression and anxiety and its always a lot worse in the winter. I'm subscribed and look forward to your next video/talk.

Hi! I'm so glad you found my channel! I remember being "that mom" too and I still sometimes expect that of myself, but that lady wasn't dealing with depression, chronic illness, and all the other things that this current version of myself is dealing with. I've decided its ok to let her go, and just work with who I am now, which is someone who has different priorities now...survival being the top one most days. Seasonal depression is SO REAL!!! I live in the midwest, so I get that for sure! Just keep plugging away a little bit at a time and you'll get there with your craft room. And if not, craft in the hallway, lol! Keep me posted on the room, I want to see a pic when you're all done! Find me on instagram @chronically_beautifill.

Great tips. I'm so excited about your eyeshadow combo! It looks so beautiful on you. Could you please share what you used (I'm guessing it's at least 3 colors)? Did you use one of your BH Cosmetics Brasil pallets? If so, could you please share the colors by row and column? (I'm just guessing they didn't name every single color if it is from that pallet.) If it's a different pallet, please share! Hope you're feeling up to it. I understand how just typing can seem impossible. Sending love and well wishes :)

Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words! I LOVE having fun with makeup! Just because I feel crappy, doesn't mean I have to look it, lol! So I filmed this video quite awhile ago and for the life of me I cannot remember what palette I used! But I know it wasn't the Brazil palettes (I do have them). I swear I'm not gatekeeping, lol! I'm at work right now, but let me take a look through my 3 billion palettes (I have a problem...) when I get home, perhaps it will jog a memory!

@@ChronicallyBeautifILL Oh my gosh! Thank you so much. I love this look on you. You need to wear it every day!! It really makes your eye color pop so much. If you do happen to remember, I would love to hear, but I totally understand if it's just one of those things that end up disappearing from the brain! LOL. :)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s such a difficult experience, especially because we all go through it differently and there is not one solution. I’ve been there. The best thing I ever did was get up the courage to talk to my doctor about my depression, get on Lexapro, and start seeing a therapist. It took me YEARS to finally get there, but I’m so glad I did. I truly hope you are able to find some comfort during this depressive episode. Try to think of it as just that…not permanent, but an episode that will eventually lift. ❤️

The "invisible" part of having a chronic illness makes it so hard. People have to see someone bleeding, or in a cast to believe that there is pain. Most days I don't look sick at all, but I am hanging on by a thread and in constant pain. Its definitely a tough cross to bare for us. I see you!!!!!
