  • Storing a paint roller sleeve over night can save time compared to washing them out after every use. In this video I will show you how to make your own storage container. There are a few ways you can store roller sleeves over night or even longer and this is one of the best ways to do it. Using a storage container you can keep the roller sleeve wet for up to a month if keep in cool conditions. If left in the heat it may only last a week or two before it goes hard.

    Excellent video mate , very similar to what i do , i bought some black fishing float tubes off ebay to store mine in and they're excellent for storing 18" sleeves that i tend to use most . The red end caps have a tiny hole that i just cover with glue or silicon to make them air tight . I wrap in a fresh plastic bag as well just to ensure they don't dry out at all and always use a fresh bag after use and storing again.

    Appreciate you sharing the knowledge and tips how to paint. Do you have recommendation for what type of brush or roller to use for internal plaster brick wall? What size of extension poles are needed for DIY paint a new house? Thank you!

    Like that.
    I've been using plastic bags (no holes) that I put a knot in the end after twisting it...works ok.

      Yes plastic bags do the job, have used them before myself.

    Been using tin foil myself. Wrap and then store in fridge if waiting more than a few days before starting back. The foil keeps the rollers wet and are less messy than plastic.

      As long as it is kept in an air tight container then it should be fine.

    • @howtopaintinfo

      Generally I will wash all rollers out before leaving the job so all rollers will be clean and just stored in a plastic tub.

    Great videos. I have a question - I have a James Hardie wood grain fibre cement board that I want to look like cedar. (it's actually the eaves of the house). Is there a stain or paint available and how do I do this.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Год назад

      If its un-painted you could use a stain, you will just need to try a few samples to get the colour you require. The other option is to get a paint colour close to what you want. Hope that helps.

    Im going to make one. Seems so easy. Just pop the wet roller in and cap the tube. The only issue i see is that there would always be some air sealed inside with the wet roller. Ive only seen other painters use plastic bags but they are messy and there will always be some air trapped inside. I think plastic wrap is good as you can wrap tight and better ensure that there is no air.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  Год назад +3

      The air trapped inside will make a difference but I would say comfortable you will still get 2 weeks out of it and longer. I had one the other day that must of been in the tube for 4 weeks and it washed out fine but it has been cool to cold weather here lately.

    That’s a lot of time and expense when you have plenty of containers available that are free. When I was in the trade I had 2 x 10 litre buckets with lids in my van. One was for dirty rollers that needed to be washed for another colour and the other one had cleaned rollers that were stored in water. The dirty roller was stored in water in the dirty bucket and the cleaned ones were ready for use after they had been spun out with a roller spinner. The dirty rollers were cleaned at home with a small plastic cylindrical device that fitted onto a hose and could clean a roller from black in less than 5 listers of water. I went overseas for a couple of years and stayed for 10 and came back and checked the rollers. They were as good as the day I left them

    I have a dumb question...
    Do you remove as much paint as possible before storing the roller?

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  10 месяцев назад +2

      No opposite, the more paint on the roller the wetter it is the longer it will keep.

    Wrap it in a plastic bag or cling film and stick it in the fridge.😊

      Plastic works but the sleeves work better and it's fine if you have a fridge handy, doing new construction there are not fridges.

      They wouldn't fit 14 or 18 inch rollers.
