I ended up getting a C3 65" recently, and I was surprised at how well it does in a bright room. I was expecting sub-par performance based on my previous CX, but no. The C3 is very bright, and the colors are much more punchy.

Yo!!! I came from my CX to a C2. And I’m right there with you. The CX let me down a good bit in quite a few areas. The C2….just makes me happy, and I don’t have much to gripe about.
I was NOT expecting any big brightness advancement in the C2…I was shocked tho. Its noticeably brighter in every aspect. It’s just such a more capable panel, with some actual head room. Where the CX wasn’t nearly as capable, and had virtually no head room. It was being pushed to its absolute limits, and the ABL behavior, and often occurring image retention really showed it. Along with the colors being so washed at those higher luminance levels. No amount of calibration could fix the gripes I had with my CX. Near black was also rather poor on the CX, especially low-bit rate and chrominance overshoot artifacts. The C2 addresses virtually all of that, and shadow detail is this TV’s strong suite.
Please don’t get me wrong…I love the CX and it was my introduction to OLED, and I’ll never go back to transmissive tech lol. But it did leave a lot to be desired, and did fall short in some aspects, even to my TCL r625, which was a fraction of the cost, and the TV it replaced. I miss that set tbh. Just bc how far above it’s price point it punched, and how damn accurate it was for a QLED.

I always heard the C9 was even brighter than the CX, i still have my C9 55 inch in bedroom for 4 yrs now, and I’m dying to replace with G3 or Sony A95K or L, since I have S95B in basement. Still love C9 but brightness is lacking by todays standards. I would go G3 but game mode I hear isn’t too great..plus I’m curious about Sony QDOLED with the much hyped processing I hear about…

Is this done with HGiG or DTM enabled on the G3? To me, it looks like DTM, and it is blowing out the image a bit. Basically, the APL looks greater than it should, and this is why I constantly employ ppl to use HGiG over DTM. I get people like the brightness of DTM, but it hurts overall image quality. Raises mids too much, while sacrificing too much detail in the highlights. Plus, HDR is for dark viewing conditions, and that’s FACT! DTM has come a long vs the way it use to behave, but it’s still trying to tone map static content, and errors are made, especially with LG’s implementation.
I’m also curious on the S95C’s tone mapping settings. Is it game HDR/static? It seems like the Samsung is tracking closer to reference/PQ EOTF.
Regardless, both of these are absolutely amazing! For me tho, I’m hanging onto my C2 for another year or two. It still puts a big smile on my face. Truly, I’m just looking for QDO to keep maturing, and get even brighter full field and peak, with less ABL.
Speaking of the shadow detail aspect…this is where LG made HUGE strides. Even just coming from a CX to a C2, both fully calibrated…the C2 handles near black so well compared to my old CX. It’s an area I truly appreciate, especially as a HDR fanatic.
PS…did you take the dE’s yourself, or just from Rtings? Bc the LG’s are NOT ACCURATE in game mode. Not in the least, out of the box. They use a cold white point, and DTM is enabled. It’s easy to get very accurate, but it’s nowhere near accurate. The Samsung’s having a dE of over 20 is not the true story either….they’re also very accurate when set up correctly in game mode. The color space bug is the biggest issue I have with Samsung, and I want a fully working CMS, with correct color space conversion/mapping.
Before I bow out….BRING BACK HDR videos bro!!!! This SDR just ain’t it lol. Still looks good, but nothing like the old HDR uploaded videos.

Hgig vs dtm is really about preference. Few games I like hgig, but sometimes it feels like highlights just not bright enough I I end up going with dtm

    • @ye-rochawkins5432
      @ye-rochawkins5432 11 месяцев назад +1

@@theelusivememe1772 That’s your prerogative, and sometimes I like DTM too. Rare tho…It has entirely to many compromises. Unless my room is too bright, and I’m compensating. But I’m doing it technically “wrong” then. HDR is not for bright environments..period, end of story. And if a game looks as if it “needs it”…that tells me the HDR was done poorly.
I wasn’t asking about your preference tbh lol. No offense. I was asking Villaman if DTM was enabled on the LG, bc it seems to me that it is, and it’s boosting EOTF and the entire APL, thus hurting colors and color volume. Brighter doesn’t just equate to “better”, in all scenarios. It’s nice, but there’s limitations, and only a certain set brightness/APL for a game/film. There are standards…
HGiG doesn’t need “support” either. All HGiG is, is a way to disable tone mapping, in order to have a 1:1 map to the display actual capabilities. A hard clip essentially. To avoid double tone mapping, or having DTM mess up, which will always happen, even with the best tone mapping. All HGiG needs is a correction working slider, to set peak brightness, paper white, black point, etc…or just use the system level, and implement it correctly. Most are implemented well now.
There’s always a trade off and compromise with DTM and gaming. When it comes to none gaming, and using it in FMM, where the algorithm is more accurate, I get that too…but again, there’s trade off. Yeah, those highlights might be “brighter”….but they may have lost the detail, or the saturation it should. There’s a reason for this whole “HGiG” thing….you just also gotta know what you’re looking at, and what it should look like…a reference/hero display is always best. iPhones work great 👍
If you want to use DTM….the way to use it, is to first set the game/system up with HGiG first, and then switch to DTM after. Never set a system up with DTM enabled. You’re just fighting yourself at that point lol. Literally fighting yourself/TV.

You probably have screen tearing because you GPU renders more then 120fps so freesync (or g-sync) does not work at that point. The best thing to do is to lock your framerate 3fps under the max HZ. So with 144hz 140 or 141hz. And so forward. Then you are always in the freesync range and you never have screen tearing. Why 3 and not 1fps? Because the FPS sometimes comes a little bit higher. So 144fps cap will give you 145/46fps every now and then.
Thats also why cyberpunk does not give you screen tearing, you dont get over the max hz

VRR not working in Overwatch could be because your fps was outside the tv's refresh range. That's the reason the Nvidia control panel asks you to also force Vsync in the global settings so that no application can get over the refresh range of the display and introduce tearing which would also explain why VRR started to work in Cyberpunk since it was within he refresh range. That said without having both tv's fully calibrated (which I assume is the case since you only said the eco mode is turned off which any sane person should do buying such an expensive tv, and the max brightness part) I'm not sure what conclusion to draw from this. Also did you check that none of the tv's turned on any kind of "enhancements" like higher shadow brightness after it switched to game mode? What about dynamic tone mapping? Games don't play well with that.
My guess on why the G3 looks less vibrant (besides Samsungs bad out of the box Delta E values) is because the white subpixel is multiple times brighter than the individual RGB subpixels, which the S95C doesn't have, technically making the image less colour accurate when both are calibrated. So from that perspective it's the game devs that made everything oversaturated. That said I generally prefer more muted tones in games and I'm not a fan of cartoony artstyles. You could try turning down digital vibrance in the Nvidia control panel and mess with the gamma settings. I'm sure you could get pretty close to the G3. Cheers!

The LG looks a little washed out when put side by side with the Samsung but in actual use its what I'd expect a balanced, reference-level image to be close to. I like the colours that QD-OLED can produce but side by side here the G3 is just an overall more dynamic picture. During the Overwatch gameplay it looks incredibly dull on the 95C vs the G3. Obviously if you were viewing the 95C alone it probably still looks great, but having the inky blacks and the ability to get that bright on the G3, I’d take that all day.
The Cyberpunk gameplay does turn things around a bit though, when you see those reds and yellows so vibrant on the UI.

To fix the screen tearing, turn on g-sync in the control panel and then turn off v-sync in both the Nvidia control panel and the game settings. Make sure the TV is set to 120HZ and download RTSS and set the global frame rate limit in RTSS to 117FPS and set in game frame limit to off or as high as the game allows
The Samsung can go up to 144HZ so set the RTSS global frame limit to 141FPS if the Samsung TV is set to 144HZ
