- Ok so, I heard of this speed challenge put on by Fil at @PoorBoysRC... I'm getting in on this as many of my friends already have..
I'm going BRUSHLESS...
I ordered this Cadillac ATS-V.R body #1543-30 (photo from the package header) and broke out the airbrush (I'm new to airbrushing and it's ok for small detail work, but it's not for me for painting a whole body) and went to work... I have the talent of a double arm amputee graffiti artist.
This might be a One & Done run for me but I would like to try my luck on 2S & 3S, ok Double & Done, Is that a thing??
Good Luck Everyone and remember, this is for fun, so have fun...
Yeah, Uncle Bob, good to have you onboard! This challenge is completely crazy, I think you might like it...
Cool paint job, I needed to look up the Frankenstrat, it's cool, and funny enough almost same colours I am working on for mine... Yeah, all the best paint jobs are rushed and got paint bleed and overspray all over, ha ha!
Looking forward to see some more, I bet it'll be deadly fast with that motor combo!
Thanks Mads!!! My main problem is, I hate putting my fingers and hands into a freshly clean body... RC Body, I don't wanna get finger prints all over the painting surface, so I thought I had the tape down pretty good (It's Tamiya masking tape) but I guess not. Overall, It didn't turn out too bad. I never used this combo before, was stuff I had sitting around, guess we all will see what it does on the "track".
Great looking body👍. Thanks for showing the chassis specs, too. Good luck to you, too
Thanks Dirk, same to you my friend, Das Auto!!! (I know, it's not a VW).. LOL
Looking good Bob! Make sure you take her easy brother! 🔥
NEVER... FULL THROTTLE ALL THE WAY!!!!! Hammer Down Man!!! Thanks man.
That body looks amazing! Great paint job. And that White ESC will look awesome through the windows 🤙
Thanks dude!!!! As I looked for a body to use, I wanted the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body to use but I would feel guilty cutting out the back end and doing what happened in the video. So, I kept looking and seen this Caddy body and when I did Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar came to mind and here it is...
Looking good Bob!👌😀
Thanks Peter... we shall see if it holds together...
Love that body!
Thanks man, I want the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body but I would feel guilty cutting it up or have the car do a "Pete Wylie".. So this is it.. I seen this and EVH's Frankenstrat popped into my head.
It looks good Bob
You know I'm loving the Frankenstein theme, brother, 'cause you sent me a preview! Bollox to the little oversprays and bleeds, still looks freakin cool! Now get her out and thrash her! 😜😜👍👍
Thanks man... The EVH Stratocaster theme (Frankenstart) popped into my head when I seen the body. I need to relocate the rear body post holes, easy enough to do, just make the holes bigger and use a scrap piece of lexan with post holes double sided taped inside.
@@UncleBobsRC It's a cool theme for sure! Yeah, those holes are easily fixed. Take it easy, young man!
@@MarkBryanRC No Box Art Here!!! LOL
Hey Bob it certainly looks fast! Good luck with the speed runs mate 😁👍👍👍
Hiya Pete!!! Yeah dude, this is my first time using this esc/motor combo so we shall see.. While looking for bodies to use, I seen a few, like the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body set, but I couldn't bring myself to cut the ass end out of this body or flip it on it's lid (like yours did)... So, the cheap, no luster, Pro-Line body it is and when I seen this Cadillac ATS body, EVH's Frankenstrat theme popped into my head.
The body looks pretty snappy to me Bob! Good luck with the speed run!
👍😊
Thanks Jeremy!!!! I seen the body and Frankenstrat popped into my head, so here's my take on it. Thanks again but I never used this esc or motor before, just stuff I had sitting around, we shall see how it works out... Might need a long, smooth, quiet, country road to get this thing up to speed.
That looks great. Good luck! Doing it myself.
Thanks man, good luck to you also...
Still pretty cool I like that I know it's not perfect but who is perfect anyway 😜?
Great attempt Imo !! Good luck on the run!
Thanks man!!!! As I looked at bodies to use, I wanted the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body set but it's way to nice to cut up or slide it on its lid at 30 plus mph for 60 feet. So then I seen this Caddy body and thought, EVH's Frankenstart (His Guitar from the late 70's to mid 80's). These Pro-Line/ProtoForm bodies are more for racing and lack most detail you would get with a Tamiya shell, so being a high speed race body and half the price, no brainer. Plus no care in the world if it gets beat up.
cool paint job and nice setup
Thanks Duke!!! Eddie Van Halen!!!!!!!!
Hi there Bob, a great attempt at airbrushing my good friend. In my humble opinion, I think you’ve done an awesome job! Especially for 1st attempt at airbrushing a polycarbonate body. 😊😊. Well done my good friend. Looks good ready for those speed runs. 😊😊best wishes to you and the family 😊😊
Hiya John, how ya been man? It seems like RUclips is eating comments again, I left some on other posts (your Hornet tire video too), and a few others and then they are gone... It's happening to other people to, not just me... As for airbrushing a whole body, yeah, not for me... I used the .3 needle and I should have put in the .5 needle, large surface area, larger needle. Airbrushing smaller things, it will be fine. I'll stick to rattle cans for most body painting. As for why I painted the Caddy this way, well, when I looked for bodies to use in the speed run, I seen this and Eddie's Frankenstrat popped into my head..
@@UncleBobsRC hi there Bob, sorry that RUclips systems is playing up. Don’t worry, I know you there my good friend. I think your bodywork came out really well. Excellent attempt. I think 0.5mm needle would make it easier, but if you prefer cans, not an issue, all down to personal preference. Great work bud! Just spoken to Kevin too, awesome! Best of health and wishes to you all 😊😉🖐️
Hey you said you would see us at the test track four times I'm still waiting lol.looks good brother can't wait to see your time as you know it has not gone good for me.
I am far from a master of the airbrush so I can't give you many tips on it at all! Rattle cans are pricey but cover much faster so I keep suing them. I like the body and they are never going to come out perfect. That is what sponsor sticker were made for! LOL! I agree that often those vinyl paint masks are over sized for the windows. I have had to even trim some of the Tamiya ones down to fit right. It will look great once you are done with it and it is out ripping around!
Thanks Addam!!!! I wanted the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body set but I would feel guilty of cutting out the ass end or Pete Wylie-ing the the car... I used Tamiya masking tape but I hate getting my fingers all inside a freshly cleaned body (Lexan body) while masking parts off, now I do (most times) wipe down the area(s) with isopropyl alcohol after masking and before painting to remove finger prints, palm prints, dust or dirt and this flipping dog hair that's every F'n place, UUGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Why is dog hair, dog hair off the dog but dog fur while still on the dog???? This EVH Frankenstrat theme popped into my head when I seen the Caddy body, so, hear it is in my own way...
@@UncleBobsRC ours is cat hair but yeah, it is everywhere!
Well Done Bob with the EVH themed shell. The rear wing should be red with yellow + white stripes and a "Running With The Devil" soundtrack for good measure 👍
EVH rocks ✌️
Epic Idea on the wing, that means more airbrushing for me... Cause I only have Red & Yellow in Pro-line airbrush paints. I thought about Light Gun Metal (PS-63) with a few 6mm stripes in black to match the grill & hood (bonnet).
@@UncleBobsRC The Gun Metal and Black would look pretty cool too😁
Maybe airbrush a red or yellow line over the top after you've removed the film of course 😉
@@cw-01creations46 Thanks for the suggestions mate... I think I know what I'll do... And I just got this cool light brown 12x14 inch thing in the mail (post)...
@@UncleBobsRC Arghhh!!!
No Bob.....
Not the dildo box wrapping....
😁🤣🤪😛😝
Uncle Bob, that body and paint scheme is looking wicked. I do have one question for you. Are you trying to send that car to the moon with that setup (motor/esc) you might have to have spare tires 🤣🤣🤣 after your first test run. Good luck. 👍👍👍
Thanks Al, as you can I rushed the paint work but it's not a show body, it's just for this speed run (or others that may come along). I was trying to go as fast as I could with what I had sitting around. My buddy Kevin pointed out to me that my motor is not 3S rated, we'll see how this turns out..
Hey there on your next body, before you peal the outer protective film off take and Exacto knife and cut out all the window trim. Next paint the cutout frame with a semi-gloss black and finally remove the rest of the outer protective film and vola windows done.
I did think of that after I was done but me being me, I'm a bit impatient, ok a lot impatient...
Very cool body Bob, made a good job of that from what I can see.
I admire anyone who puts that much effort into a shell that's going to be running a 6900 KV motor!!!
You nutter!! 🤣 😂
I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing your speed runs matey..... how the hell are you guna keep that thing on the ground??
Great stuff! 👌
👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks Guys... I have never used this esc or motor before, so all new to me.. As for the body, man, it's just a runner or beater body, I don't care for the Pro-Line/ProtoForm bodies as they lack detail, They are more race style bodies than a concourse winning bodies, I been spoiled by Tamiya Lexan.. I wanted to use the Tamiya 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR body bit I would feel guilty of cutting the ass end out of it or doing a Pete Wylie with his Mercedes-Benz body. We shall see how it works or don't work together...
