Absolutely my favorite Meatloaf tune, and yes, I too love the lines, "Can't you see my faded Levis, bursting apart." Beautiful, thought provoking, with a hint of erotica. Doesn't get any better!
Which is a testament to the 'innocence' of that era, where the sexual innuendo was quiet and implicit. Now, it's too vulgar to print. And kids listen to it with their parents! And it's funny that he said it was his favorite too -- and I think it's the best song on a masterpiece album -- because I've read so many comments on his songs that people say the same thing. Yet, no one reacts to it. It deserves more prominence in his legacy.
I just turned 60. Still have my original vinyl that I still listen to regularly. Can "sing" every line. Masterpiece. I have had a copy of this album and every available medium as technology "improved". Vinyl to 8 track to cassette to CD to now digital. Best money I have spent on music giving me decades of enjoyment. Thanks to Jim, Meat, and Todd.
What about Pandoras Box. It's all coming back to me now.? Another shining example of Steinmans brilliance. Rip Jim you will be remembered as a heart stirring, lyrical genius.
Tell me i'm thinking too deep about this but, the line "You belong inside my aching heart, can't you see my faded levis bursting apart?" is not a simple proclamation of love but a backhanded confession of a young, inexperienced teen conflating love with lust. It seems the first two verses (acts 1 +2) show that he was at rock bottom and needed her as a way out and to fulfill his carnal desires but the last verse (act 3) he realises every single way in which she helped him and how the accumulation of that duty to him makes him realise EXACTLY how much he loves her. The world will never be the same without the pair of them working together. RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.
You can get a boner from love, it's not always about lust. You gotta realize this was the 70s, during practically a sexual revolution. I know that part of the album the boy at first just went for lust, but I don't believe this is a lust boner, it's a love boner.
I have always loved Jim's writing, ever since first hearing Bat out of Hell when it was released.....I was in the 8th grade, and just loved the production on the record, and the lyrics. To me, the way he juxtaposes religious, and sexual imagery, as well as death, and humour is masterful....
Jim Steinman was the genius that wrote the meat loaf songs . I bought the Album , Bat out of He'll at a local record store in 1982, when I was about 14/15. His interview here, gives a clue as to why he was such a hit with most young people at the time, and remained so , with my generation, ever since!
YES., ,the best song on the BOH album.....still my overall fav song....amazingly... its relatively unknown by most, who only know Paradise by Dashboard or heaven can wait
What I love about this song is how it promotes this connection between deep emotional love and sex. Everyone says sex should be a deep intimate thing and yet Love songs never mention sex (and vice versa). What's funny is before I saw this video (though I know what Meat Loaf looks like) I had never noticed that it could be about his weight. The only meaning I noticed was the obvious (sexual) one.
If me it's the most heart bearing song I HAVE EVER HEARD. The Levi's lyrics is a boner lyric? OH...MY...GOD 🤭. When I hear that song every time I think, why would Meat not have you change that part because of what he went through with the Levi's commercial. Every time I heard this song up until now I have been shocked that Meat kept that lyric
I can sing but I do like to sing when no one's around 😂 but I can sing along with this. The one I find hard to sing along to is making love out of nothing at all.
Why not combine love and sex in lyrics??? IMO, the best sex comes from deep love, and deep (romantic) love does include sex. Makes sense to me! 😊 This is my favorite Meatloaf song as he mentioned so many people have told him. We miss you, Jim and Meatloaf ❤️
Ah dang XD I thought the faded levis verse was about him having aged significantly and still clinging on to the old feeling and trying desperately to to bring it back by wearing the same old pair of jeans. Of course, the levis are old now and the protagonist is not as fit.... And now i learn it was about a boner. XDDD
Jim was the best song writer EVER

A bit of sexual innuendo which is perfect for a pg-13 love song.
Perhaps one of the greatest love songs ever written

And that’s exactly why I think Jimmy was the best song writers ever. His music was epic and humorous.
Meat Loaf gave Jim Steinman's heart a voice and a life.
Jim was a master. We need more of him

How did it survive? I wore my out…destroyed two cds and went back to vinyl.
@@darbyheavey406 It's all about needle maintenance. LOL
Amazing song. Didn't hurt that he got the best rock singer in the world to perform it.
One of my favorite Meatloaf/Jim Steinman songs 👍💞
I love this man with every ounce of my being.
Jim we love it too. Thank you. Sleep well x

To me, Jim is the most influential songwriters in rock. Thank you so much for the beautiful music.
R.I.P Mr. Steinman

I think so too. What an amazing way to close out a groundbreaking album.
What a talent
So sad that he passed away on Monday ): RIP to the most talented songwriter.
Simply magnificent.
You couldn't beat Jim and Meat when they teamed up!!!!
No question.
Why does this only have 38 likes after 5yrs? It's absolutely true 👍
Это да.

best song on the album
This song pumps me up so much.
Best by far on the album .
Came upon your posts in the wake of Steinman's death. Your channel is a goldmine! Thank you for these.
RIP !🔥Jim and Meat loaf ! Job well done here on earth! We LOVE YOU 💕

"Can't you see my faded Levi's bursting apart"!!!!
And don't you hear me crying oh babe don't go and don't you hear me screaming how was I to know.
@@animalanimal4627 :)
Steinman's ballads were frigging epic, all of them. But this one takes the cherry for sure.
The best song ever written.
My favourite line too 'Can't you see my faded levis bursting apart'.x
That means his penis is having an erection.
Bruce Springsteen has Jungleland on Born to Run and Meat n Jim have For Crying out Loud on Bat. Both musical and lyrical masterpieces
Love this.
rock on jimmy
you are god
Agreed my friend.
legend
best song ever JS
rock the afterlife brother

Jim Steinman wrote a song that couldn’t be sung, and Meat Loaf sang it.
I can sing but I do like to sing when no one's around 😂 but I can sing along with this. The one I find hard to sing along to is making love out of nothing at all.
it's just a great song writer
All the meatloaf's albums he created with his songs are great
Dang. Have loved this song since 1978 and never connected that lyric to a boner. Lol Just thought of worn jeans.
Wow
that chord progression sounds the same as Seize the Night on the 3rd BOHell
Michael Slotwinski as he said, it's one of his favorite progressions. I noticed that, too^^
FCOL was Elvis' last song. Elvis died and part of his soul transferred to Meat

@CzarChoiThe2nd I think that permeates a lot of his songs though. Plus the kinda gothic feel he injects.
where are these video clips from? I'd love to see the whole thing without the cuts
From the Classic Albums DVD series.. Making of 'Bat Out Of Hell'.
first few sections of that song sounds alot like seize the night
Noooooooo!!!!
@fignon cut the hair, lose you're power
Ah dang XD

He's a bit of a perv, isn't he? Talented, yeah, but...
why does this Seem Chopped up ? ... that Sucks ass ..
..and force feed him a copy of Bad for Good!!!!
Wow, i love that album and that song, but that's the one lyric I can't stand. To me it's just so hammy and out of place!
Well he is the writer and he can come up with anything he wants.
@@animalanimal4627 Didn't say he couldn't, doesn't mean everything he writes is going to come across like magic though.
@@beckybarnes4651 well song writers don't always have to be perfect but at least he knows what hes doing.
I think it's brilliant and mature to integrate honest male lust into a text about deep love and longing.
