Destiny 2 Lore - Lysander & The Concordat. The Banished faction that could soon return!

- Destiny 2's Lore tells us sparse little about the mysterious Lysander & his exiles faction, The Concordat. After the story finale of the season of the splicer and the disbanding of the factions, the situation seems poised for him to benefit politically from the chaos that's been sewn.

This whole factions thing had me thinking of something. At the end of the Season of Arivals we had that message from the Darkness. In it we saw effigies of Hive, Eliksni, Cabal, and what look like humans wearing armor we've never seen before. What if this new collection of Factions, under Lysander, was this group of humans wielding Darkness?
That would be awesome to be able to side with them and choose the darkness
Now that you mention that we are supposed to get stasis legendary weapons next season so maybe we could possibly see that-
great idea man, i never would of thought that, when u think about it, the idea u have raised makes total sense, could there be an all out war against guardians by everyone?
@@wolfofapollo8013 the idea of new monarchy dead orbit and the concordat all rallying together is kinda scary ngl because if the people of the city rally behind them like the did with FWC we could be in deep shit
@@Rnjesus386 100%
While we're speculating I always found it interesting that in the D1 map of Bannerfall, if you go on the Concordat side, at the end of the two story building that runs along the left side, on the second floor look up and hanging from the ceiling are several crates. Two of those crates are marked FWC. Why would they have FWC crates? Considering the fact that the FWC just happened to be the faction that rose to prominence by gaining a seat on the council after Concordat was ousted, and knowing that Lakshmi uses vex tech to peer into possible futures, it stands to reason that FWC may have been secretly supporting the Concordat in its uprising, knowing full well that they were likely to fail which would leave an opening for FWC to step in. Also, if memory serves, that "little corner" in the D1 tower where you received the Lysander sparrow just happened to be right underneath the FWC booth in the hangar.
Oh that is interesting
Interesting
I’d be genuinely surprised if Bungie bothers with factions ever again.
I agree.
One faction requires much less resources so they may actually implement the concordat with loot, story etc. It is much more manageable than 3 factions at least.
@@KingKobra. i agree with this as well, like byf said though i wouldnt expect it anytime soon, but it would be cool to have a big faction takeover arc.
@@KingKobra. i agree with this as well, like byf said though i wouldnt expect it anytime soon, but it would be cool to have a big faction takeover arc.
I think they will do it but it will be a big thing maybe dead orbit, new monarchy, and concordat team up and cause a giant Civil war
I knew it! The first thing I thought when the factions ended was that all of Lysander’s political opponents are gone.
I love how Guardians can hardly like eliminate humans, we kill hundreds of enemies on a raid and call it a Tuesday, but humans are harder to kill than an Overload Captain.
Killing humans rather goes against the whole "protecting humans", thing.
@@Cross31415 This should be expanded upon on how jailing is on the last city.
True Master class lol
Then again we did put a bullet in Uldrens head with no second thought
well given that guardians are protectors fo humanity it kinda goes against our job if we start killing humans in the city
I’m gonna predict that one of the seasons after Witch Queen, heck maybe the last one, is going to involve this power vacuum. I think Lysander is going to start a huge war with the city with the aid of not only the kicked out factions, but also with aid of the alien factions that are against the alien allies we’ve gained. This war could possibly bring about a variation of the Exo Stranger’s Dark Future and kicks off Light Fall.
If we star war with humans and guardians. I will stop playing destiny.
@@KanykaAiM why tho?
A cool idea but I don't think it's very likely; the 3 Factions aren't against Humanity and they very much hate Darkness, so why ally themselves with the forces they know work for Darkness? The 3 Factions are at best Segregationists and at worst are pro-Isolationism, but they're not anti-Humanity. An alliance with Lysander, however, is totally possible albeit it would definitely be a tense relationship since NM are the ones who kick them to the curb and could be used to show that Light, in it's most extreme uses, can be just as bad as Darkness.
I was thinking the same thing.
@@KanykaAiM Im okay with having a hostile human faction, however I will legitimately. drop destiny if they try writing Hive or Vex as allies
I cant wait until they try to say Osiris was a genocidal maniac against the Vex or how Eris killed widdle hive kids
I believe it was our Ghost during the events of the Forsaken that said, “Now you know why I lay low when you fight.” It made me wonder why Zavala didn’t ask Targe to stay hidden during the meeting with Caiatl after a previous assassination attempt already.
As for the Factions…yeah. I went Dead Orbit for the shaders. Didn’t know then, nor do I know now, what they stood for. lol
idk if it would be of interest, but they want to pack it all up and start colonizing outside of the sol system because of how much attention the traveler gets us.
@@awkwardllama0509 I still like them even after the coup thing, it seems they were less involved than the other two
They believed the Traveler’s presence would draw the darkness back to finish what it started, completely wiping out the last of humanity. Their purpose is/was to create a massive fleet capable of moving as many humans as possible to a new home world in a system as far from the traveler and the darkness as possible.
Targe probably didn't stay hidden as a show of peace and good will. Zavala didn't come there expecting a fight, so Targe had no reason to stay hidden.
Well New Monarchy essentially supports a fascist dictatorship and half of the FWC are space racists so all things considered dead orbit isn't that bad.
Im a solid believer of this faction showing up and offering to take over the role as the people's voice. Not a hostile act but a surprising peaceful act
I'm thinking more of a leadership to those who use darkness since the vanguard doesn't want to trust it, maybe have it based out in the farm in the edz
They do seem like a populist movement. The symbology, name, and history fit remarkably well.
@@eliaspanayi3465 we already have the dark vanguard
@@jeanleroux4702 oh right, I see how that can get mixed up, I mean have an organisation in opposition to the last city led by the concordat, not eris and the others
"Lysander did nothing wrong" -some human, probably.
I'm honestly with you on being loosely affiliated with a faction. I was kinda in the FWC before this season (severe oof now), because I appreciated that they wanted to do research and give humanity an edge in the almost inevitable conflicts we'd see in future. They seemed like a group that'd be handy to have around even if I didn't want them to be the dominant force in the city. Though I must admit I definitely regret that stance in the light of Lakshmi's bullshit.
Me too. Never thought they’d end up being so racist. I assumed if anyone would it’d be those Praxic Order fanatics
I myself was a fan of Future War Cult , untill Lakdsimi starting taking a racist stance. Against the House of Light. I dropped them quicker than, I did New Monarchy after discoving That New Monarchy was Fascist lol.
Lakshmi had terrible decision making skills. But, philosophically, I agree with the premise that mankind must always be prepared to protect itself, that conflict is inevitable, and that we should never let down our guard considering future possibilities. Gazing into what may or may not be the future is a waste of time and resources that could be better used in preparation of greater and more inventive defenses. Having factions at all though is a tribal mindset. I prefer the more individualistic types of society: like network coordination, voluntary co-op, free market negotiation, etc. Can't wait for just one scifi, in any way of storytelling, that envisions people as independent and self-reliant.
"Enemy of my enemy, I guess. Still, never thought we'd find ourselves here." -Shiro-4
This was my favorite story from D1, I so hope they bring back this faction and finish the Lysander storyline
Imagine if the Concordat could give us an exotic catalyst, or god forbid, a brand new exotic weapon, if the guardians pledged their support. The City would be theirs in less than an hour.
If they offered 1K Catalyst which gave full auto and increased RPM or Anarchy Catalyst that gave +40% damage against bosses the Vanguard would fall 2 minutes after reset.
It would be absolutely hilarious if everyone's first reaction to the epilogue was Bungie is just trying to get rid of the faction rallies and then they bring in the concordat as some faction war season/event.
Picture this: Concordat teams up with Psion Conclave because they hate the City. Conclave teams up with Scorn/Fikrul as they hate us personally. _That wouldn't be a good time._
Fikrul’s dead
@@Nocbsocbsox according to "hidden intelligence" he self resurrects like the Scorn in the Glykon do. Every time we run the hollowed lair strike is canon as we are sent to kill him after a resurrection. All it takes is for someone to take the body and move it after death for Fikrul to reanimate elsewhere, breaking the cycle.
@@Nocbsocbsox he’s undead and can resurrect himself
This could be the catalyst that finally pushes the remaining Vanguard members to select a new Hunter Vanguard. I’m just speculating, though.
It kind of sounds like no hunter knew what Cayde's dare is though xD Hence why they all fled; for all they knew they met the requirements for the Dare and thus were the new Vanguard
My bet: Crow takes over as Hunter Vanguard and Mithrax becomes the next Speaker
As soon as the Factions left I immediately began to wonder/worry about the Concordat…
Lysander could return sometime during Witch Queen's season pass.
Imagine a concordat season
I suspect that if the Concordat teams up with Dead Orbit and New Monarchy, it will be similar to the Battle of Twilight Gap, where the Houses of Kings, Devils, and Winter teamed up to try and destroy the Last City... It's fairly clear from the Lore that the House of Kings (Who arranged the alliance and attack) were effectively using the Devils and Winter as cannon fodder and Eliksni Shields to protect their own forces.
I foresee that an alliance between the Concordat and the exiled Factions would be similar, with New Monarchy and Dead Orbit being the bulk of the forces and soaking up losses while the Concordat bides it's time until they can sweep in and take the City with minimal losses to their own troops (Simultaniously toppling the Consensus and crippling the other 2 Factions so they cannot effectively oppose Lysander's decrees)
Had other thoughts, but specifically, what if Lightfall is, indeed, meant as a reflection, bookend, and revenge, for Bannerfall?
Lightfall has a pyramid ship covering the travel (on the cover) so probably not. Plus bungie won't use a minor faction for their grand finale.
@@KingKobra. probably not, but would be interesting if Lysander's faction allies with the Pyramid ships.
Might be too much to expect from someone mostly known only by lore junkies, but fun to imagine.
My personal theory, and this is a best case scenario, Eido (Misraak's daughter) becomes basically the new speaker, Crow becomes the new hunter vanguard and the city gains a new civilian council based on democratically elected members similar to a parliament or senate. Again, wishful thinking but could you imagine? Eido has a strange connection to the light and from the lore, Eliksni scribes sound an aweful lot like the role the Speaker had.
I would rather like to see micah 10 become the new speaker
I was an FWC follower since the beginning. Out of the three factions, they made the most since to me. That isn't to say that support the idea of endless war-- quite the opposite. But Whether we want it or not, the Darkness is out there, and wants to reduce us to nothing.
But in the end, Lakshmi and the other factions went too far. As much as I supported FWC, I can't support xenophobia and placing the lives of the City in danger for their own megalomania.
I was an FWC follower since the beginning. Out of the three factions, they made the most since to me. That isn’t to say that supports the idea of endless war- quite the opposite. But Whether we wanted it or not we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He’s well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

Well now that Osiris is implicated in the Vex incursion into the city it would be pretty easy for Lysander to tell the citizens "I told you so". A Lysander story arc needs to happen, because nothing would shake up the overall story more than having our own comrades and the citizens we protected turned against us. Wouldn't be surprised if Savathun has a role to play in Lysander's rise to power.
T perfect timing. What if Savathun knew something about this guy. Or its just the Last City making everything easy for the With Queen.
Oh great lore father, thank you for another blessing of lore video
ay lore papi
Felt like a throwback to the classic Destiny 1 lore videos with the grimoire card and everything. I have to admit the appreciation I have for Destiny 1 lore content. Byf, and others, made comprehensive videos off a few limited resources. Now, look where we are today - complete lore tab built right into the game, seasonal stories and cutscenes, and villains and plots teased for months on end. Despite the relative ease and abundance of world building in Destiny as now compared to 4 years ago, there is certainly no slouching or lack of effort from Byf and fellow loremasters, digging as hard as ever to give us the good stuff. I've always loved and been thankful for the many and overarching narratives of Destiny. Seeing things like this, calling back to the Destiny 1 times, I can't help but smile at how far the game and its community have come.
All this faction and Vanguard chaos reminds me of why I chose to side with the Drifter. Specifically, because I think it’s important that we understand how to properly balance the powers of Light and Darkness so they can in turn be used accordingly against any threats to one’s wellbeing. It’s essentially like using the right tool for the job. The other main reason is I like the idea (and I personally trust the Drifter on this) of escaping to the Nine Realms at some point as a means to avoid the coming collapse and (hopefully) find new power or technology to grow stronger (maybe command an entire Taken army to guard the Realms or even attack the enemies of the Light, who knows, the possibilities at this point are seemingly endless from a narrative perspective concerning the Nine Realms).
Also, as a side note: where’s Shin Malphur when you need him? I mean we’ve got Guardians (Lysander) who may have the technology to perma kill Guardians. Who cares if these Guardians haven’t fallen to the Darkness, they’re potentially contemplating perma killing others.
Side side note: Imagine a cutscene of a standoff between Shin and Lysander... I’d pay money for that.
Shin retired
So I just realized that because of the anti-ghost rounds even existing, there is just a slight chance they can be mass produced. All’s it takes is for Lysander to create one factory for these bullets and the vanguard will have a massive problem.
Not necessarily, all they’d have to do is advise everyone to NOT PULL OUT THEIR GHOST IN A HOSTILE AREA
Lysander / factions / darkness / others vs Vanguard and its allies. We're heading that way.
If there's a season coming up with Lysander as the antagonist, it should be called Season of Vengeance.
Power Vacuum: *exists*

Haven’t played destiny in about a year but man I love keeping up with these lore videos
New Age of Warlords PLEASE! I'm dying to fight some human bosses. Especially if the raid is just an abandoned wooden complex with low-tech traps.
There was one other reference to the concordat. Cayde had a idle dialogue if you stood next to him for long enough he would make a statement saying he found a concordat frequency and how that was strange/impossible. I hope we get more lore over Lysander and the concordat
I'd kinda like to see a "council of light" so to speak that has the vanguard, Mithrax, and Caital as a governing force
Still waiting on him to make an appearance. Been waiting for some time now. It would be a great time to bring him in. Its the moment he has been waiting for.
Since Season of the Splicer and Lakshmi's coup idea have started, and even before that, I immeadetly thought about Lysander's comeback in a middle of The Last City's and broken Consensus crisis. Just didn't expect all three factions leave. Now his job to take the power to rule is much easier...
cant wait for the new DLC “Destiny 2: the Politics and the Paperwork”
You'll get this new fancy pen if you make thru 30 council meetings, the pen gives you better stamina and a boost your penmanship
Fantastic lore video as usual but... dude, watching you use Wish Ender in the crucible was freaking great. I've never taken it there but seeing you wield it makes me want to give it a go.
Saint-14 went on a Crusade against the Fallen after Twilight Gap, who's to stop us from going on our own personal Crusade against the traitorous factions and finally putting down the Concordat once and for all? C'mon Bungie, let me go full Doom Slayer on those Dead Orbit Emos I'm begging you.

Well, considering my only other options were pessimistic nihilists and authoritarian fascists, there wasn't much of a choice.
Funny enough, fwc also turned out to be authoritarian fascists
i mainly join because I agreed with their core tenet of preparing for war that is more than likely coming. But now I wish House Light was a joinable faction.

I believe there are two other references to the Concordat in D2. When Cayde was in the tower he had a voice line about finding Concordant signals. There was also a voice line from one of the civilians in the tower saying that "the concordant was right."
At the end of your previous video on the factions, you mentioned someone that could spell trouble for the Vanguard, and I immediately remember Lysander.
"A golden age experiment reincarnated by a faulty ghost..." How dare they speak ill of Sagira!! She was precious!! I still mourn her and Cayde as the two greatest losses of my Guardians tenure.
YES! I have been waiting for an updated video on him and maybe his future plans for revenge!
Anyone else think that there will be new factions in the city now that the top 3 have left, from what I understand is that they were simply the biggest factions, not the only factions.
I’ve waited so long for this video because Lysander has been a mysterious figure for YEARS. This would be a great season for the lore
It's videos like this that make you the absolute best.
So you know how the Helm is pretty clearly a ship? Maybe the city never falls, but we get kicked out alongside the vanguard
The helm is in the tower itself, i believe in near the hangar, its basically a big room, it is not a ship
I thought that Dead Orbit refused to help the coup? The lore seems to indicate that Lakshmi and Hideo were in it, but Jalal was going to leave the city. All the plotting lore involves just the two leaders, and besides the one where they approach Jalal, he is absent. He even mentions that he is accelerating his departure timetable. Lakshmi herself only credits FWC and New Monarchy with the coup when she made her announcement. I think Hideo just decided to flee when the coup failed, and Dead Orbit would have taken them because the more the merrier when setting up a new human colony.
With the upcoming arrival of light bearing hive, I wouldn't mind seeing a season introducing the guardians of the city fighting the guardians of the broken factions.
Aha the video I've been waiting and perfectly ready for my workout!
Lysanderoth? From the ProZD skits?
I kind of want Lysander brought up in the next Festival of the Lost. Like people think the seat occupied by the Concordat and then the FWC is cursed and turns the faction leader a traitor. It's weak and not scary but it sounds a little fun.
I have theory that we will see this Second Concordat War unfold either in late Witch Queen or Lightfall. It would make perfect sense: Lightfall might see Guardians choosing sides in some grand conflict, and one of those sides (the Concordat most likely) will be aligned with the Darkness.
I’ve been waiting on this since last week
Right on time, Byf. Just went on Lunch Break, lol
I was always on Dead Orbit’s side, but even I had my misgivings. The only way I would truly abandon the Last City, my home and heart, it would be if we could evacuate everyone to the last. Baring that, I’d stay in stand so others can run to safety.
I remember seeing a few tweets from one of the Bungie staff talking about revamping the Crucible. If there's a potential season we see Guardians against Guardians with Lysander at the head of all... imagine what kind of season we'll be playing
Each faction has their own purpose/theme that reflects their goal as a faction and how they intend to impact humanity, whether good or bad. My question is, what is the Concordat’s goal? What intentions do they have for humanity?
This makes think about how when you die in game types the enemies continue to shoot at your body/ghost. Makes me think that there will be a game type in which you are cut off from the light and must be revived by teammates before “your ghost is destroyed”. Like maybe some sort of prolonged survival gametype like horde or zombies
Byf: Here’s another new lore video
Me: Thank you for this blessing father
This would be a really cool arc, and maybe they’ll save it for after light fall. But if we actually get this in season 15, with the remains of each faction+Lysander allying against the vanguard due to stasis and eliksni hospitality, then we might be fighting humans/guardians in season 15. Doubt it, but with a 5 month storyline they could probably nail it down to one season although seeing this as an expansion around 2024-2025 is probably more likely
With all this lore you just have to imagine. How expansive this game could be if all this time or at least for d1's lifetime bungie was developing a proper plot and heaps of new locations like the wilds. I do hope that after the first saga that they perhaps discuss making a true mmo between factions but with older weapons and old subclasses.
I love that you brought up Lysander. I just hope Bungie remembers him too. I know they’re hiring a lore person. This would make a great plot line I think. Anyway good stuff as always!
Dead Orbit could bring one of the greatest space fleets humanity has to offer to Lysander.
And I'm sure New Monarchy has a nice personality...
According to Oxford dictionary: “[a concordat is] an agreement or treaty, especially between the Vatican and a secular government relating to matters of mutual interest.”
If we mirror this to the destiny universe, it could be possible the Concordate thought of itself as a separate entity from the city consensus, which it saw as an ally of necessity. It could’ve also been similar to New Monarchy with its tenets, simply more radical. This is of course just a theory of what their values could be
That was some impressive Wishender gameplay
This would be such a cool story beat. Imagine Arach Jalaal and executor Hideo sporting a green fist alongside Lysander
It makes sense that as the guardians make allies of once-enemies, that enemies can be made of once-allies as well. Bungie’s got the mirroring story arcs working well
I held the same exact opinion of New Monarchy (overall liking/supporting them but not their goal of ruling the Last City). Glad to see it wasn't just me!
I realize this may technically be off topic.. but damn Tulus was going off with Wish-Ender!
That bow fighting though, flexing much? XD love this guy
Videos like these are really enjoyable but I can’t help but always feel like Byf is making narrative suggestions for the team to consider
He is Bungies, red shirt guy
I really don't know how Dead Orbit would be an enemy of the Last City...it's a fun idea to muse on, I guess, but at WORST, I could see them being a neutral entity, like Caiatl's faction. Unlike Lahkshmi, they didn't act to overthrow the Vanguard, nor did they even back her like the New Monarchy did. Anyone who paid attention to Dead Orbit KNOWS their ideology was always to leave Earth, and as far as I can tell they've done that silently, and WITHOUT pulling a total Clovis in the heart of our city. Assuming Dead Orbit survives SOMEWHERE in the system on their own (between the Black Fleet, the Cabal, and Hive all out among the cosmos), I don't see them being hostile towards the City and its Guardians? Maybe not full allies anymore, but I can't imagine Dead Orbit displaying hostilities toward the Vanguard just because one of the Arachs was mentioned once talking to Lahkshmi during the season, and didn't even agree to side with her.
Dang Byf kinda nice in the background gameplay. Popping off w wishender
I didn't even think about dead orbits' fleet. Now that they are gone, we do not have any escape options ready to go in case we cannot defeat the darkness or savathun( the only believable exits now could be caital and her fleet, but I doubt it).
lysander: I HAVE THE DEAD ORBIT FLEET I WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE
zavala with caiatl and mitrax and their fleets: oh? _especially caiatls fleet_
I would love to see us finally see a group of humanity not based out of the city. We’ve been teased with a couple of them a few times (Efrideet’s colony and sunbreaker titans) but never really seen them
Perfect for watching right before bedtime
As someone who has always only supported Dead Orbit because it was the best of three evils (and, y’know, shaders) I’m very interested in the Concordat returning, perhaps at first as a seasonal activity where we eliminate dangerous insurgents within the City in the name of Lysander, as a way to garner people’s support for him
Lysander, you were behind all this?
Yes it was I, my machinations lay undetected for years, for I am a master of deception....
- Lysander, 2021 probably
As much as it might make sense for New Monarchy to ally themselves with the Concordat, it makes absolutely none for dead orbit to do so. Dead Orbit wants to get the hell out of dodge, why would they care about trying to take the last city back from the Vanguard.
bro this was actually super interesting anything remotely close to this would be wild to see in game
I'm sure the joke's been made before, but here we go:
Dead Orbit and New Monarchy: *Crying on the gallows*
Lysander and the Concordat: "First time?"
Imagine calling a human guardian a golden age experiment, meanwhile a bunch of exos are around
“Maxim 29: The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less." -The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries
Honestly, love to see all new factions added, maybe have a competition to vote or choose which ones to take the place of the ones that left, who knows tbh
Mr Cayde often would comment on concordat signals if you stood by him for long enough. I really hope they do something with this stray thread, it would truly be cool!
That Concordat story would be cool introduction to Human Enemies as Old Destiny i think 1 were with Human forces as enemies to fight guardians.
power vacuum? with Savathuun in the city? Lysander may find himself as a meal for a bigger fish.
Good job!
I was just thinking about how The Concordat hasn’t been really mentioned since Rise of Iron.
