I get the feeling that, with our recent improvements in diplomatic relations with the Cabal and Fallen, combined with this sudden upheaval of the internal governance of Humanity, I could see a major shift wherein we end up forming a true alliance with the enemy races, with a large overarching government made up of representatives from all three groups to act as a united front against the Darkness.

I doubt it. House Light has a good claim to be part of civilian governance, but the rest of the Eliksni and certainly the Cabal have no business being involved in the City's affairs.

The only 2 factions that we can't make a deal with are the Vex and Hive. Hive, because they have a worm inside them and will kill them if they do not follow the sword logic. Vex, they want to be on top and don't understand us or can comprehend us.

I would say Crow could focus on collaborating with the awoken in terms of an alliance, but his past probably left his relationship with the Awoken on bad terms.

I was just thinking about this when you mentioned it vaguely, but very interesting that all of Lysander's opposition is gone now. Zavala and Ikora are already overworked with just Vanguard duties. Targe, Zavala's ghost, even remarked in one of the lore books that the two of them can't keep doing the work of three people. Now they are essentially the only leaders left in the entire city with the factions gone.
I think we need to hold emergency elections to offload some of the burden from Zavala and Ikora and get somebody/anybody in that hunter vanguard seat, whether it is Crow, Shiro-4, Marcus Ren, or whoever else even if it is on a temporary basis. Right now, Crow seems to be the logical choice given Cayde's dare, but given that he used to be Uldren Sov, I am afraid of any backlash that other hunters may have being sent on dangerous missions by him, even though he is a different person now.

I could see different people and Guardians being liaisons between alliance/faction representatives. The way the narrative is going, I think Crow will fulfill the Hunter Vanguard role as well as becoming a peacemaker between the different race the City will have to ally with. He seems empathetic with the right mind to solve social and culture disputes. As for the “Dark Vanguard” as some call them, they would probably be more focused on the threat of the Darkness on the horizon. At least the way the narrative is going.

    • @typhir5911
      @typhir5911 3 года назад +11

@@JKeemTV Sure, I agree that there are more experienced hunters, but what hunter would want to be tied to the Tower for extended periods of time? We saw how Cayde was itching to get back into the action and hated being tied down to the Tower and issuing orders. Experience does not always imply good leadership skills.
I suggested Crow because he is agreeable to most positions that the Vanguard assigns to him and actually wants to help out wherever he can, although I believe right now he is out on a recon mission with Mithrax's old fireteam. Just having someone in that Hunter Vanguard seat, even in a figurehead role, would relieve some of the tension that regular guardians feel right now.
Out of all the hunters that we know of and are currently still around, Ana Bray is probably the most experienced and powerful, but she is so busy with fixing Rasputin's core that she probably doesn't want to have anything to do with Vanguard duties, given that it is implied that Zavala has asked her several times to take the position.

But if you think about it they were just trying to survive just like people on earth were all it took was an opportunistic leader to rally them to his/her cause by promising a hopeful future ( no matter how true the promise was)
It also showed that the scourge of the fallen (
Saint-14 ) who seemed to hate the fallen could come to understand them and see them as allies and ultimately as his own people.

If Eramis comes back we may see them form an alliance and possibly be even aligned with Xivu Arath's hive if Savathun ends up giving up the worm. Lakshmi was acting irrationally for quite a while before this season, to the point that some members asked her to stop using the mind forking vex machine and straight up asking Ikora for help.
Araach Jalal was involved in several internal arguments over how to go about resource allocation and Dead Orbit's objective. He wanted to keep it's original idea of booking it at the sight of imminent danger to the city and never returning, leaving the rest of humanity to its fate, while a sizable section of the faction wanted to use a different approach, evacuating civilians when danger gets to the city and holding out in space until the city is secured and it's safe to return.
New Monarchy was having a serious internal problem as the involvement of New Monarchy with the coup wasn't without reason, Executor Hideo was planning on bolstering Lakshmi's reputation with the city civillians in order to unanimously elect her as monarch, fulfilling the faction's objective. Many of the members saw this action as breaking their code.
Adressing the Transport ships part, we've seen many foundries begin to manufacture civillian, service(medical attention, construction, etc) and transport ships, so the new influx of ships from this private sources should compensate the lack of ships with time.

In full honesty, the factions collapsing shouldn't be too surprising. If you read into their lore a bit, New Monarchy wanted to take leadership of most of the Last Cities resources because they believed they could put them to better use. And Dead Orbit believed that Earth and the Last City were done for and were trying to push the Vanguard to evacuate to space.
One way or another, a coup was going to happen.
Byf also raises an interesting point. Without the factions and civilian leadership, the Last City could end up spiraling into a dictatorship. One that might lead to unavoidable rebellion that could encourage an even harsher dictatorship. If that happens, the Vanguard aren't going to seem much like the good guys anymore. The thought that those more reliant on the darkness might end up coming out morally above those reliant on the light is a very harsh irony.
And it raises more questions for the future of Destiny.

    FACTION TIER LIST
    1-FWC
Pros: best ideology for a guardian. Revolves around anticipating future events and being eternally ready for the next fight. you could technically practice this and still support another faction, in fact. it's the most adaptable.
Cons: a faction focused on being ready for the next fight isn't as well prepared to take advantage of opportunities to make peace, like the ones we've been presented with in short succession with Caiatl and Mithraks recently. [note: I know people were happy to see Lakshmi-2 dead after hearing her politicking this season, but I still think it's a shame an Exo with the second lowest reboot count in the series wasn't a part of any of the Clovis Bray corp. lore, and even when they had built her up to be a hateable villain, she got an offscreen death. Total misuse of a character, frankly.]
    2-Dead Orbit
Pros: wants humanity to branch out among the stars, like our golden age ancestors longed to do. life is hard for pioneers, but our enemies might not be able to get us all if we spread far and wide.
Cons: we are not alone. the hostile aliens in this system are bad enough, the Drifter and people like him who venture out past the heliopause have found worse monsters than anything we've seen in Sol, and the Red War has proven abandoning the Traveler would be suicidal. We couldn't commit all of humanity to an escape into the deep black. Home is far too important, even with our worlds disappearing.
    3-New Monarchy
Pros: no more squabbling faction heads or dithering vanguard mentors. NM's mandate is to find us the perfect leader and put him or her in complete control over City government.
Cons: literally a dictatorship waiting to happen. Somehow I'm sure we wouldn't get someone as compassionate (if harsh) as Mara down here on Earth.

Perhaps we'll even find out he's being manipulated by Savathûn or the Darkness in order to start a civil war within the City, weakening it from the inside.

Personally I believe the fall of the factions was perhaps Savathun's main goal with the Endless night ploy. Knowing what we do of her actions and capability's it seems unlikely that the Vex invasion of the Last City was Savathun's real end goal with this whole orchestration. What I see as more probable that this was a targeted attack on the Last Cities leadership under the guise of a large scale war. The end goal being the destruction of the civilian representation and simultaneously sowing the seeds of distrust for Ikora and Zavala, all the while stretching them thinner and thinner until they begin to slip up. This also makes the loss of Cayde at Uldrens hand seem more relevant as he was under her influence at the time. The only part of this situation which I believe may truly have gone against her plans possibly being the closeness with which we were able to bond with our new Eliksni allies.

A thought experiment we ran concluded that, in the early days of our society, at least, people would have provided these base goods and services because other people were in the same boat, the people provided their own goods and services. With the directions all the seasons are going this year, I have an idea where the City's government structure will go: similar to how the Vanguard is currently, different figures will represent different groups and demographics within the City, the two most obvious members being Crow taking his place as Hunter Vanguard & representing the Hunter population, as well as potentially holding some kind of role similar to the Speaker, although I imagine the system will be more democratic, and Mithrax being a representative for the Eliksni population. We could see Hawthorne have a renewed relevance, acting as Humanity's representative, and, should we be on good enough terms with them, the Cabal, with Caiatl acting as their representative. As for who else I think will join this hypothetical structure, I believe the so-called "Dark Vanguard", consisting of Elsie Bray/The Exo Stranger, Eris Morn, and The Drifter, will have seats to fill a role that Crow, Zavala, and Ikora cannot, overseeing the Darkness-wielding Guardian population and making sure everything goes smoothly regarding such efforts, as well who I believe will be the final ally we make in the joint effort to battle the Darkness, Mara Sov, representing the Reefborn Awoken.
While we obviously don't know how next season will play out, a lot of people, including me, are anticipating an Awoken-based season, primarily because of the death of Quria, who sustained the Dreaming City's curse, but also because of the direction and common theme every season this year has had leading up to now, creating new allies to combat the Darkness, and the Awoken are basically the last eligible ally left, the Vex, Hive, Scorn, and Taken aren't willing to sit down and discuss politics after all.
We obviously don't know where things will go in the coming months, but it's safe to say we'll see at least some, if not all of these faces fill the seats left behind by the absence of the Factions, and, in the case of the non-Human representatives should we see them, it'll be interesting to see how their government practices will both benefit and impede the efforts of the Last City's government as well as their allies, political discourse between figures like Zavala and Caiatl would be fascinating, as well as the repercussions of such political clashes, if you ask me.

I feel like mithrax could make a good faction leader, he is strong dependable and compassionate, so good at hearing the voices of the people of the last city, then we could get a representative from the cabal since they have honour and resilience as well as being good at leading, caitl has shown us they aren't all big brutes that want to murder everyone else. Crow can be the new hunter vanguard and let's get eido to become the new speaker. We would still need a third faction though but that's how I see the future political structure going

Representatives for the following; Guardian, Civilian, Cabal Military, Eliksni Military, Cabal Civilian, Eliksni Civilian, Eliksni/Human Alliance, Cabal/Human Alliance, Eliksni/Cabal Alliance, and Massive Alliance. Since we're on the good side of some parts of the Eliksni and Cabal, we're gonna need more representatives. And I can totally see alliances happening and civilian splitting away from military in all of the factions. It's only gonna get messier if the Hive and Vex get in on this.

As another thought, the possibility exists for the allied races to fill in the factions
Vex would be FWC (predicting and analyzing potential futures, and providing suggestions from that, but untainted by organic problems like paranoia and prejudice)
Eliksni would be Dead Orbit (aware that the Traveler may yet fall, and bringing a myriad of contingencies to the table, but less willing to cut and run until then)
Cabal would be New Monarchy (adamant that we stand and fight the enemy before us, and keen on uniting under a single leader, but offering a tempered view (Cabal society had both an Emperor and a Senate))
Hive might fill in an extra role, offering a shady support network that isn't... exactly trusted

Was thinking about this very topic while working the late shift at work. To be honest I can't help but think this was part of Savathun's plan for this season. I mean the endless night was to disrupt and destabilize the city. One being to disrupt the cities power and supplies to keep the city going. Two, in fighting within the city and three, the city's leadership. All things considered, maybe we could maybe see the something of a new Consensus. I mean Crow has grown as a character to where it looks like he will take the Hunter Vanguard spot. Now that the House of Light is now in the city it would make sense that either Mithrax or his daughter Eido would represent the Fallen. As for civilian representation you could see Hawthorn and maybe other non light characters fill those positions.
