I really hope that I have given you some information about the collapse, sometimes I get to the end of the video and I wonder if I have helped understand the topic! At the end of the day, I spent a good 8 hours researching this topic, regarding any card or item description that used the word Collapse, searched through each NPC dialogue, searched transcripts of in game dialogue… just to see if we actually know what happened. Even then I still excluded, the Exodus program and detail about Rasputin (but I have covered that before). Ok… now I am rumbling… feel free to leave feedback. If you think about it the one thing all guardians have is a ghost. I think the ghosts prevent some memories from surfacing. In all the story missions there is no fear or wavering conviction in any guardians with a ghost. But those that lost a ghost like our there eyed friend in the tower or those that never had a ghost like Mira and the reef awoken show fear and reluctance to the movements of our guardians. It could be the ghost removes PTSD and other strategic memories to keep us on a given path while allowing just enough of a memory to keep is in a dream state and easily pliable. Just a thought.

Whether or not this is due to some active memory-deletion by the Ghost or simply because we've actually been semi-perma-dead for about a century - who knows. Fact remains that there are almost no records of the Collapse either. If it was just Ghosts ereasing the memory of Guardians, then "normal" people would still have stories that have been told from generation to generation. There would still be written records, or even camara images of what the Collapse did. But there isn't. To me personally, it sounds as to either 1. someone actively tried to erease all memories / data from the Collapse fom everyone (not just Guardians), or 2. After the Collapse almost everything was destoryed, even humanity was so thinned out that whatever stories remain, have turned into legend. Since possibility 2 should still result in at least some camera images, the evidence point towards possibility number 1. Another part of me screams that this is a bit too much doom-thinking, so instead I'll opt for a third possibility: The writers simply wanted possibility 2 to become reality, and hope people don't think too much about the subject.

I seem to remember that during The Blighted Chalice strike on the Moon, when a guardian enters the path to the final boss room and sees the giant "taken orb" above the shrine, the player's ghost asks "Eris, what is that stuff?" to which she replies, "Darkness, given form by Malok's cruel will." Perhaps this "taken orb" was indeed crafted by Malok and is made of pure Darkness? Could that be what Darkness looks like? I also seem to remember that Oryx's power to "take" things is given to him by the Darkness itself - since he spoke with the Darkness directly. Maybe when Cayde was enveloped, he was temporarily taken by the Darkness directly, rather than Oryx. The description of him fitting and not being able to control his movements seems logical since taken can't do that either.

Great video about one of the greatest mysteries in Destiny. It's hard, intentionally I'm sure, to come to any concrete conclusions about the collapse, but you do a great job in highlighting what is known and provide evidence to support your theories without resorting to unsubstantiated wild speculation. As someone who is really interested in Destiny's alternate history I really appreciate that
I honestly think the Darkness is still here on earth and in small pockets all around the solar system, just not in its full strength. The guardians take the traveler's light with them in the form of ghosts, which enables them to venture into the darkness, but whilst inside, if they die, there is little to no light directly provided, to trigger respawning. Makes sense, doesn't it? What does it say when you wipe in a place where respawning is restricted, after all? "Darkness Consumes You" The Darkness is still here. You've just been overlooking it.
It's interesting, the wtich queen has given us more insight about the collapse. Savathuns worms tells us that the collapse was actually stopped by Savathun and it's implied even back then centuries agao she had planned to becoming a light barer, she knew becoming a light barer would free her from her worm, something she has been wanting to do for eons. The Traveller originally intended to enhance the Osmiums aswell. Savathun wasnt really our enemy, we were just in her way. Both the Witness and Rhulk were present during the collapse and woudl have destroyed the traveller if Savathun hadnt of stopped them. How she did it is still an unknown but she likley used her cunnign and trickery to falsifty the travellers destruction. Finally this comes full circle and helps explain the cutscene at the end of the red war, after the traveller reawokened it inadvertidly woke the black fleet up in the process.
Unless the travler knew..now just listan the travler has done multiple things to help us as in forcing is to forget the collapse (proof is of tollends ghoat when it says the fireteam got there memories back when the were far away from the travler) giving us ghost but what if it new it was going to awake the darkness when it awoke but thought it was worth it to save us and savathun was trying to fix it by protecting the travler but then WE KILLED HER AND NOW THE TRAVLER AND OUR FATE REST IN OUR HANDS but the good news is we are making alies so far its guardians,fallen,kabal,awoken,and possibly some hive that could be turned by flinch vs the darkness and i think That explains the little room we had back in season of arrivals were all the speices were looking at the pyramid maybe it wasnt bc they were looking to it but fighting it BUT THATS JUST A THEORY...A GAME THEORY

Then on top of that, the Exo's seem to have some sort of sub-routine that forces them to forget the details of any conflict they fight in. You can see the appeal; perfect robotic soldiers who never fail and never betray you because they do not even know what they have done for you. And I believe that the Traveler is making us forget the Collapse, because if we knew the truth we would give up, we would lay down arms and surrender. It can't take that chance.

Judging by the way the Darkness seems to swallow Cayde with tentacles, it definitely hints at Hive or Taken magic. One of the drawings in the journal also kind of resemble a Taken Cabal Phalanx
If anyone remembers it's always said that the traveler "saved humanity" and "stopped the darkness" although it's never actually stated how, the ghost constantly refers to the traveler stopping the darkness. I remember in a mission (can't remember which) but the ghost says something along the lines of "the vex turned Mercury into a machine in days, they would've consumed everything if the traveler hadn't stopped them." And another thing about the hive encounters, it's directly stated that the hive have been on earth before. The ghost says this when you first meet the hive on earth "the hive haven't been on earth in centuries." Anyway that's enough of my rambling.
This is one of my favorites that you have done. I love how you bring to life the almost hidden depth that most people overlook in the entire Destiny world. Anyone who complains that Destiny doesn't have a story has clearly never heard of you. Where Bungie failed to really bring their world to life, you have succeeded.

You know it would be great to have the Fallen be good guys.They just seem like they want to save their race.I do hope Bungie makes the Fallen allies in Destiny 2.Then again we dont have the full story of the Fallen so I wont jump to any conclusions

Hey, Myelin, do you think the Osiris expansion may be an Earthborne Vex based one? Like, he comes back from Venus/Mercury/Mars to warn us of an imminent Vex attack on Earth? Kinda similar to Eris and the Hive. Or maybe Saint-14 comes instead, to warn us of Osiris reviving Earthborne Vex and leading them to the City after the Cabal attack and whatever happens in the Warmind expansion. I have other ideas if you want to talk about it.

Judging from the look of the ships at the end of D2 final cutscene, the darkness could well be a technologically highly advanced race of aliens. They actually have a bit of Xur vibe.
I always wanted to understand better what exactly the Darkness is, cause all information that I know about it, comes from 'people' using/draining or whatever it is that they to with it. Hope this gets clear with time. Thank you for your work man! Peace :D
Good video, but there's one point you were wrong about and that the Vex were also a part of the Collapse. At the start of the mission Eye of the Gate Lord the ghost explains during The Collapse the Traveler stop the Vex on Mercury. I think the Vex have a better link to the Darkness than the Hive because they worship directly to the Darkness. Whereas the Hive worship the Worm Gods first then the Darkness. The Vex learnt a lot about the Darkness from the Hive and didn't make the mistake of dealing with the Worm Gods they when directly to the Darkness

I've got the mother of all twists. I have nothing to base this on but here goes. What if we don't beat the Cabal? They and/or the Psions just royally kick our ass. Instead of turning into Dark Guardians we look to the Void. But who can hook us up with a way to the Void? Well, a powerful enough Hive can cut holes in space and who do we know that's close to them? Eris and a few others not to mention Oryx's sisters are still out there somewhere..So we get booted from Earth and can't rely on the Traveler anymore. On our path for new light we run into Eris that, either herself or a Hive directly, gets us into the Void. We run into Osiris and come up with a plan to use Vex tech to travel back in time to stop an event that in the smallest way, butterfly effect, starts the snowball. Osiris tells us that the only way to use Vex tech is to suck down some Vex juice. Somehow Rasputin becomes infected as well and begins the path to becoming Atheon or at least a prototype that will eventually give birth to Atheon. Since we know very little about the origins of the Vex, what if we become the first versions of the Vex?
This is also a theory I had at least on the awoken I was thinking that the queen might actually be one of oryxs sisters who maybe where in persuit of the traveler and the blast could have transformed her. This is supported by the opening video for the taken key no when she states she still remembers the day she was born and how she also mentioned oryx crawling out of the pit which could be the deep
now everything i say is from grimoire Rasputin maybe could have helped -he did not fought but went dormant and turned off population protection protocols -we do not know what other warminds did in the collapse -but we do know that rasputin "assumed control" of solar defenses (written in grimoire) before he went dormant -maybe thats why the warminds did not help, because their arsenal was in the hand of rasputin who was dormant and hided everything -and then we dont know if he did the right thing when he crippled the traveller to stop it ftom leaving us, maybe he was the one who killed it if the traveler is dead -this would make rasputin the most important character in history and just about the "traveler is bad" theory: imagine if we go in to the traveler and after qalking around and parkouring for minutes we find another thing like the heart of the black garden
About the fallen, what about variks speaking about the "Great Machine" (aka traveler) saying in his grimoire that the great machine came, their past was ripped Way, and then they had to fight for their system? What if some of the fallen didn't just come to loot ?
This bring a lot of sense to the collapse. I never really understood it. I always thought it was a natural catastrophy but this makes a lot more sense.
The drawing on the left from Cayde's journal looks like it has 3 eyes, which would imply its a hive, but looks much bulkier and cabal like. Also the other drawing on the left reminds me of Xur a little bit.

Your speculation into how it would contributed to the origins of the awoken makes a lot of sense. Lore video idea/theory- if you haven't at some point made a video about the original khvostov flavor text I would strongly encourage you to do so bc I think there could be a very plausible theory that the exo stranger placed it there. Also she was at the end of the first mission when you leave in your ship and sort of tracking. I think that you should look into it bc you could do a much better job at digging up every piece of info on it and explaining it. Keep up the great vids!
Watching this in late August 2022, after the light fall reveal trailer, does the image depicted at 9:28 in cayde-6'a journal not look awfully close to that of the tormentors? Might give a lot of credence to the thought that the darkness itself was present, the main forces of the witness were there when to collapse occurred

I left it only asking more questions, as Destiny often makes me do. and so i ask; what if the Vex are wiping the ones who are aware of the collapse from existance, as a way to hide the real truth of the Darkness' identity? What if the Darkness is the Traveler, and it has a deal with these agents of the dark? Oryx knew this, he spoke with the dark and gained its power. To Take, to control. The Traveler after all is only heard by The Speaker, so what if we are being lead estray on these "Side Missions." Being told me have to vanquish these foes that are a threat to the city, but who gives us this info? T h e S p e a k e r. The Traveler controls these minions, giving them power for their control of will. Oryx could take, but had nothing to give except his death. Atheon the times conflux lived within t i m e i t s e l f, and yet was killed by us. Again the question comes to mind when you question that some of our allies outside of the tower tell us to be warry of our power. What if the sting of Desthiny 2 Is that The Traveler and The Speaker are extentions of the Darkness. The Cabal attacking the "Last Safe City" removes the control of The Traveler iover us and our light and in a way we make our own Destiny, revealing the big bad as The Traveler and fighting it instead of these mini bosses. This is just a theory, feel free to poke holes and give me feedback!

If you think about it, the theory that the hive had something to do with the collapse may have some accuracy and truth to it. Like you said, not much is known about the hive, especially if humans had interacted with them before the collapse. So what if it wasn't Oryx that caused the collapse, but was instead Nokris? Remember on the mission to kill oryx, there's a pillar you can scan right before you go to kill Oryx. The ghost says it's a god-being that the hive worship, but there's no mention of it in any of the guardians database...thoughts?
Hey, can we revisit this?. Finding out that Rasputin was able to control exos, what if he took control? The pain is from being forced to move, the darkness is Rasputin taking over the vision. He fails and the exos collapse... why would Cade say he was alone yet that they all collapse?
Maybe Nokris was the Hive god who led the assault on Earth during the collapse. When his forces were on the brink of victory, nearly destroying both The Traveler and Humanity, he may have been somehow killed. The lack of leadership scatters the remaining hive forces and we are able to just barely make it out alive.

Judging by the way the Darkness seems to swallow Cayde with tentacles, it definitely hints at Hive or Taken magic. One of the drawings in the journal also kind of resemble a Taken Cabal Phalanx
If anyone remembers it's always said that the traveler "saved humanity" and "stopped the darkness" although it's never actually stated how, the ghost constantly refers to the traveler stopping the darkness. I remember in a mission (can't remember which) but the ghost says something along the lines of "the vex turned Mercury into a machine in days, they would've consumed everything if the traveler hadn't stopped them." And another thing about the hive encounters, it's directly stated that the hive have been on earth before. The ghost says this when you first meet the hive on earth "the hive haven't been on earth in centuries." Anyway that's enough of my rambling.
This is one of my favorites that you have done. I love how you bring to life the almost hidden depth that most people overlook in the entire Destiny world. Anyone who complains that Destiny doesn't have a story has clearly never heard of you. Where Bungie failed to really bring their world to life, you have succeeded.

You know it would be great to have the Fallen be good guys.They just seem like they want to save their race.I do hope Bungie makes the Fallen allies in Destiny 2.Then again we dont have the full story of the Fallen so I wont jump to any conclusions
Great video, it's nice to remind us that we were once helpless before this "Age of Triumph" and knowing what we do about Destiny 2, we may be feeling helpless again. I personally love it when stories drag us though the mud.

Hey, Myelin, do you think the Osiris expansion may be an Earthborne Vex based one? Like, he comes back from Venus/Mercury/Mars to warn us of an imminent Vex attack on Earth? Kinda similar to Eris and the Hive.
Or maybe Saint-14 comes instead, to warn us of Osiris reviving Earthborne Vex and leading them to the City after the Cabal attack and whatever happens in the Warmind expansion. I have other ideas if you want to talk about it.

Judging from the look of the ships at the end of D2 final cutscene, the darkness could well be a technologically highly advanced race of aliens. They actually have a bit of Xur vibe.

Good video, but there's one point you were wrong about and that the Vex were also a part of the Collapse. At the start of the mission Eye of the Gate Lord the ghost explains during The Collapse the Traveler stop the Vex on Mercury. I think the Vex have a better link to the Darkness than the Hive because they worship directly to the Darkness. Whereas the Hive worship the Worm Gods first then the Darkness. The Vex learnt a lot about the Darkness from the Hive and didn't make the mistake of dealing with the Worm Gods they when directly to the Darkness

I've got the mother of all twists. I have nothing to base this on but here goes.
What if we don't beat the Cabal? They and/or the Psions just royally kick our ass. Instead of turning into Dark Guardians we look to the Void. But who can hook us up with a way to the Void? Well, a powerful enough Hive can cut holes in space and who do we know that's close to them? Eris and a few others not to mention Oryx's sisters are still out there somewhere..So we get booted from Earth and can't rely on the Traveler anymore. On our path for new light we run into Eris that, either herself or a Hive directly, gets us into the Void. We run into Osiris and come up with a plan to use Vex tech to travel back in time to stop an event that in the smallest way, butterfly effect, starts the snowball. Osiris tells us that the only way to use Vex tech is to suck down some Vex juice. Somehow Rasputin becomes infected as well and begins the path to becoming Atheon or at least a prototype that will eventually give birth to Atheon. Since we know very little about the origins of the Vex, what if we become the first versions of the Vex?

This is also a theory I had at least on the awoken I was thinking that the queen might actually be one of oryxs sisters who maybe where in persuit of the traveler and the blast could have transformed her. This is supported by the opening video for the taken key no when she states she still remembers the day she was born and how she also mentioned oryx crawling out of the pit which could be the deep

Rasputin maybe could have helped
-he did not fought but went dormant and turned off population protection protocols
-we do not know what other warminds did in the collapse
-but we do know that rasputin "assumed control" of solar defenses (written in grimoire) before he went dormant
-maybe thats why the warminds did not help, because their arsenal was in the hand of rasputin who was dormant and hided everything
-and then we dont know if he did the right thing when he crippled the traveller to stop it ftom leaving us, maybe he was the one who killed it if the traveler is dead
-this would make rasputin the most important character in history
and just about the "traveler is bad" theory: imagine if we go in to the traveler and after qalking around and parkouring for minutes we find another thing like the heart of the black garden
I believe at one point in the original campaign they confirm something like that shockwave theory that you talked about. I completely support this btw
About the fallen, what about variks speaking about the "Great Machine" (aka traveler) saying in his grimoire that the great machine came, their past was ripped Way, and then they had to fight for their system? What if some of the fallen didn't just come to loot ?

This bring a lot of sense to the collapse. I never really understood it. I always thought it was a natural catastrophy but this makes a lot more sense.
The drawing on the left from Cayde's journal looks like it has 3 eyes, which would imply its a hive, but looks much bulkier and cabal like. Also the other drawing on the left reminds me of Xur a little bit.
The key to a good ongoing story is to leave people guessing . Don't be disappointed . Make it your own Destiny! In my destiny we smoke it up and everyone rips on zavala.

Thanks for your hard work with these vids. i watch em all! Ive actually thought about the light shockwave theory before, as a last ditch effort from the traveler to push back the darkness. Your speculation into how it would contributed to the origins of the awoken makes a lot of sense.
I think "true darkness" will eventually be revealed a whole new enemy type. something even worse than thr hive

Lore video idea/theory- if you haven't at some point made a video about the original khvostov flavor text I would strongly encourage you to do so bc I think there could be a very plausible theory that the exo stranger placed it there. Also she was at the end of the first mission when you leave in your ship and sort of tracking. I think that you should look into it bc you could do a much better job at digging up every piece of info on it and explaining it. Keep up the great vids!
Watching this in late August 2022, after the light fall reveal trailer, does the image depicted at 9:28 in cayde-6'a journal not look awfully close to that of the tormentors? Might give a lot of credence to the thought that the darkness itself was present, the main forces of the witness were there when to collapse occurred
The Vex WAS there at the Collapse. At start of the Eye of the GateLord mission our ghosts tells us that the Traveler stopped the Vex on Mercury.

Loved the video! I left it only asking more questions, as Destiny often makes me do. and so i ask;
what if the Vex are wiping the ones who are aware of the collapse from existance, as a way to hide the real truth of the Darkness' identity? What if the Darkness is the Traveler, and it has a deal with these agents of the dark? Oryx knew this, he spoke with the dark and gained its power. To Take, to control. The Traveler after all is only heard by The Speaker, so what if we are being lead estray on these "Side Missions." Being told me have to vanquish these foes that are a threat to the city, but who gives us this info? T h e S p e a k e r. The Traveler controls these minions, giving them power for their control of will. Oryx could take, but had nothing to give except his death. Atheon the times conflux lived within t i m e i t s e l f, and yet was killed by us. Again the question comes to mind when you question that some of our allies outside of the tower tell us to be warry of our power. What if the sting of Desthiny 2 Is that The Traveler and The Speaker are extentions of the Darkness. The Cabal attacking the "Last Safe City" removes the control of The Traveler iover us and our light and in a way we make our own Destiny, revealing the big bad as The Traveler and fighting it instead of these mini bosses. This is just a theory, feel free to poke holes and give me feedback!

If you think about it, the theory that the hive had something to do with the collapse may have some accuracy and truth to it. Like you said, not much is known about the hive, especially if humans had interacted with them before the collapse. So what if it wasn't Oryx that caused the collapse, but was instead Nokris? Remember on the mission to kill oryx, there's a pillar you can scan right before you go to kill Oryx. The ghost says it's a god-being that the hive worship, but there's no mention of it in any of the guardians database...thoughts?

Hey, can we revisit this?. Finding out that Rasputin was able to control exos, what if he took control? The pain is from being forced to move, the darkness is Rasputin taking over the vision. He fails and the exos collapse... why would Cade say he was alone yet that they all collapse?

Maybe Nokris was the Hive god who led the assault on Earth during the collapse. When his forces were on the brink of victory, nearly destroying both The Traveler and Humanity, he may have been somehow killed. The lack of leadership scatters the remaining hive forces and we are able to just barely make it out alive.
