    lol yeah I remember originally you thought this was like, Umun'Arath or something? But Ghaul actually makes more sense in my opinion, Ghaul was something Caiatl idolized like a divinity, and not without reason. Not only was he a great warrior who has a pretty classic rags to riches story, but he held the Cabal and the Empress in particular to a very high standard that he himself had risen to! Ghaul is her nightmare because she respected him, and because she feared his disapproval.

      Ironically, Ghaul was everything her father wasn’t, which is why Caital admired and respected Ghaul. I feel by the end of this season, Caital will learn from the failures of her predecessors, and find balance in restraint and vigilance. The opposite of the things that drove Calus and Ghaul to ruin: obsession and complacent gluttony/sloth.

    After one of my Nightmare Containment clears earlier today, I heard dialogue where Caiatl asked Zavala what the objects he offered during Eris Morn’s ritual were. Caiatl chose peace and cooperation with humanity over subjugating us. In many ways, this is very similar to what her father had tried to do with other species. As a result her father and his ways have been a constant reminder of what happens when you allow peace and complacency to stagnate you, failure.
    Ghaul as her nightmare is very fitting, as her nightmare constantly tells her that her way, the way of peace, is a legacy of failure, that she is indeed like her father, something that must terrify her. The nightmare urges her that she must return the Cabal to their old roots, subjugate us under their heel, instead of treating us like equals. Anything less would be considered failure to her empire.
    However, Empress Caiatl is a mix of both her father’s peaceful ways and Ghaul’s more warlike tendencies. These two outlooks have shaped her into becoming a magnificent leader that prioritized the survival of her civilization and empire. Thanks to her decisions her empire is surviving and arguably in a stronger position to strike against the Hive and Black Fleet, she not only has an Iron Lord now serving on her council, but she even has the loyalty of the Vanguard and it’s guardians at her beck and call, not to mention the allegiance of the House of Light and a potential allegiance with the Awoken.
    These are achievements that neither Calus nor Ghaul could achieve. Calus offered riches, but the guardians who served him did not do so for loyalty and all eventually abandoned him. Ghaul attempted to conquer and use the light against us and as a result was destroyed by us. Caiatl offered us strength, a new sense of unity, and her loyalty.

      @@shorddy1668 As Caiatl and some lore pointed out, the Cabal civilization eroded into decadence, complacency, and opulence. • @garrettviewegh677
      @garrettviewegh677 2 года назад +3

      Caital was probably hestitant to seek conflict with us after the news of the red war, and Ghual’s failure. That, on top of the Hive and Xivu Arath decimating Torobaital must have shown Caital that the Cabal’s old warmongering ways of conquest can be self destructive in the end, given she’d experienced first hand what the countless worlds the empire may have subjected felt like when her people conquered them. She probably learned to be more empathetic, and that consistent conquest, and opulent complacency both are not the way to rule. She may yet forge a new path for the Cabal, a third one less traveled. Who better to help her forge that future and this alliance than an Iron Lord? Knights of old, wielders of flame and iron?

    I really love how much they are developing Caiatl as a character, for someone who is such a relatively recent addition to the cast. Mithrax is great too, but Caiatl is a much more complicated and therefore interesting character, at least as of right now in the story. It's not easy to be the leader who has to steer your people through a crisis by changing 'the way it's always been' and finding a new way forward. The way she both tries to preserve Cabal culture as much as she can, while also recognizing its past weaknesses and trying to improve on them, is honestly really inspiring.
    One of my favorite lines between her and Ghaul is where he basically tells her she should be ashamed for allying with the Guardians after they defeated the Cabal, and claimed she was doing it because she was a coward and afraid of us. Her response was "There's a difference between fear and respect, Ghaul. You used to know that."

    Empress Caiatl is easily one of my favorite Destiny characters at the moment, and as someone who immerses myself into the world and narrative, it feels like an honor to help her resolve her insecurities and trauma. It make me hope that after the Witness has been defeated, we will have the opportunity to help her liberate Torobatl.
    She is a wonderfully complex character, with strengths and weaknesses rarely seen in female characters in video games. A natural and charismatic leader who struggles with imposter syndrome and feels that she has to stick to tradition to keep her people safe, even when she knows it would make it worse. She's selfless and compassionate, but determined and even vengeful. She cares for her people, such as freeing and uplifting the underclasses of the Empire and tending to her wounded soldiers. She uses her power in the interest of her people. She can use diplomacy and negotiation instead only force and manipulation. In our alliance against the Witness, I hope Caiatl will join us on the other side.

    Thanks for the video, Mr. Byf. The nightmare of Ghaul was my biggest anticipation this season, right up there with Uldren’s nightmare. But I think what we’re missing is seeing what the Cabal themselves think of Caital, from the general citizens to the military forces. I imagine it’s a sharp split between those who favor her, plenty who disapprove after their humiliating defeats under her leadership in-game, and many who are generally unsure.
    We’ve had lore about the Cabal’s past but rarely about them in the present, and that would help with all of this. I could be wrong and there’s lore stories I missed that cover exactly that. Plus, I doubt all it will take is a single rousing speech to sway everyone to her side. The Cabal demand action more than words, and this could be an ongoing storyline for Caital for years trying to keep her people together.

    From a character perspective, we know she isn't insecure about her leadership compared to Calus and now we get to see how it shapes up to Ghaul's, a style which is a bit closer to her style.

Yet I find those head cannon conversations being almost more applicable to caitel. And now a days I sometimes head cannon him going on a occasional patrol with cabal, either at Saladin or his own finding.
    And then this severance. A firm middle finger was given and his temperament was shot both before and after, occasionally turning goals shitty excuse of back talk into a compliment for the empress, as a way to do… something…. All I know is caitel is more worth standing with than most would ever admit as a person. And a leader.

    Caiatl is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She understands that the old ways of the Cabal must be set aside and that her people must adapt if they are to survive. However at the same time, she is disgusted with herself at what's that cost her and her people. Instead of coming to Sol to subjugate us, she was forced into signing and Armistice and agree on peace between the City and the Ascendancy, an act that cost her the Red Legion and some of her forces to defect. Then there was the events of Witch Queen and Risen, where she had to look the other way 2 times. The first was when we attacked that Cabal base on Mars(not really our fault but still) and the next when Crow accidently killed a close friend and Confidente of Caiatl. Cabal law demanded a life for a life, and Instead of Crow paying for that, Caiatl accepted Saladin's offer. To the Cabal, this all just looks like Caiatl groveling at our feet. They are a culture too steeped in pride to easily accept humility and would rather wage war then make peace with anyone they would contact to be equal. So, the burden of leadership weighs heavily on Caiatl, whether she admits it or not.

    despite doubting herself, Caiatl is the best leader the Cabal ever had. Calus focused to much on enjoyment of life that led to the military being weakened, thus Ghaul pulled off the coup with most of Calus's highest ranked joining in. But Ghaul's flaw was that he turned the Cabal Empire into a machine for endless war, endless war is not sustainable, eventually you'll burn too fast through resources and over stretch yourself. But Caiatl is different because of the fate of her home, if she had gone with Ghaul to our system she'd most likely have died like Ghaul at our hands. The closest the Cabal have ever come to wining were times when they took our light like Ghaul or the assassins who tried to kill Zavala, or tried to crash the Almighty into the City, saved thanks to us arming Rasputin to smash it. But Caiatl is different in that she saw that their war path gave Xivu Arath the strength to destroy their home. Thus when she arrived in Sol, she negotiated for the Guardians to join the Cabal. Her mistake was ordering us to bow to her will. But she saw an open war would be futile with us, and so the Right of Proven began, we challenged her potential commanders recruited from the Red Legion and eventually lost the final challenge. Thus we signed a ceasefire and occasionally cooperated, she grew closer to us by seeing how we handled problems like the Endless Night and the attacks on the Dreaming City, during Witch Queen we formed an official alliance with her. She has since grown to respect us more as allies. She's seen the strength of working with others rather then constantly fighting everything, even though the Red Legion no longer wants to join us. But that's because the Red Legion was mostly loyal to Ghaul, even after his death, they continued many schemes to defeat us, and will continue to fight us to the end. I'm certain in the next Sever mission she'll finally see this, that by allying with us, she and her people have a chance to survive the arrival of the Witness. We will stand and survive together, or die fighting together, what's more honorable of an end then that?

    Id honestly love to see a point where either our gaurdian or Zavala coming to the side of Caital and having something of a "heart to heart". Putting aside titles and speaking with each other not as leaders or heroes, but as individuals. Reminding her of her roots and the reasons she grew from them instead of withering and explaining how that "she is enough". She has been through hell and how that she has been truly tempered through the fires of her life and reminding her of that fact.

    My theory is that Cayde will be our nightmare along with him being Ikora’s as well.
    My logic being we “failed” cayde. We were incredibly close with him in terms of lore and in a sense we are his living legacy. For obvious reasons the play character doesn’t take over as hunter vanguard being that we aren’t necessarily a hunter.
    I feel we’d have the regret that we couldn’t save him in time. But of course there’s always the chance we don’t have a nightmare. Our guardian typically has overcome every challenge we’ve come across. Therefore we have nothing to personify as a nightmare

    • @AvatarBowler
      @AvatarBowler 2 года назад +1

      I genuinely don’t think we have one. In the cutscene where Zavala and Crow gave something at the ritual as a symbol of their past trauma, not only did our guardian give nothing, they didn’t even flinch once the ritual started.
      Not only that, but the Sever missions are structured in such a way where they (and by extension, us as players) do all the heavy lifting in terms of combat. If they/we are gonna commit to a severance, then who would defend us in the middle of it?
      The only amount of legitimacy for our guardian having a nightmare is Eris saying in the first mission “I don’t think this is the Guardian’s nightmare” when we saw Safiyah, but even 1 line of dialogue isn’t proof of such a thing.

      I believe somehow with our stronger Darkness abilities with Deepsight this expansion, it gives us some resistance to having any Nightmares plague us. Even if they did, they don’t stay around long. We killed plenty since Shadowkeep. But this is just hypothetical. Not a for sure thing.

    I'm wondering about the final mission or two. I'm wondering if our guardian will face a nightmare and who it will be. Cayde-6? Maybe Savathun will face a nightmare of Oryx? Or Taox? Though that would take some hefty story progression in the next couple weeks, but I thought it'd be really cool!

    First of all, you don't need to apologize for taking time off. The best way to make the excellent content that you do, is for you to be in the best mind space. That being said, I've gotta wonder, why aren't we getting a Nightmare? Crow got his old self. Zavala got an old Loved One. Caitl got an old mentor. Hell, Ikora even got Cayde (which we should have got but they were older friends, so I get it). It's just got me wondering.

    Here’s my theory. Sense the Emps was a bad father. Gaul was the closest the Empress had to a father. Gaul cared for her where Callus didn’t, Gaul most likely consoled Chital where Callus butchered Chital dog. So yeah, that’s my logic.

    I didn't trust Cital for far to long. But since witch Queen I have started to trust her more. The fact she hasn't realised she's a great leader is really sad. She idolises Gauhl who had no honor (remember all the human bones in the warbeast pens) and died by our hands. Cital is his opposite, I hope she understands what makes her a great leader next week.
    I honestly think both her and mithrax if they are killed in the future would both be their races first guardians.
    And that would really be ironic since Gauhl stole the light.
