  • In this video I show you how to make a super gentle and unscented bar of soap using calendula, coconut milk, and carrot puree. This soap should be gentle enough for even the most sensitive of skin. The below recipe should make approximately 3 lbs of soap which fits inside most beginner-sized molds. It is also a great recipe for beginners to make an amazing bar of soap.
    Recipe:
    Palm Oil: 200g
    Coconut Oil: 200g
    Shea Butter: 100g
    Olive Oil: 500g
    Lye: 136.79g
    Water (or water replacements): 277.73g
    If you don't want to use palm in your recipe, you can replace it with other oils. Just make sure to go through a soap calculator to make sure your new recipe has the correct calculations. Shea butter, cocoa butter, and lard are comparable type oils to palm and make good replacements. I use www.soapcalc.net for all of my recipe calculations.

    Hello Nate question from the recipe the water is 277grm so from this amount I have to reduce the 4 gram of coconut milk, and 4 gram of carrot. Sorry I’m a little confuse.
    Ty so much, loved your videos.

      For your additives like carrot or coconut milk, you can reduce your water by those amounts.

    Hi I love your video! Thank you so much for taking your time and explaining this.. Im newbie. Just curious, you said 2:1 ratio, The lye amount that you list said 136.79g. If I do 2x of that it would be 273.58g. Why didn't it get the same water as you list (277.73g). Did i miss calc? Im so sorry im new and trying to understand.

      @clover.soapworks  2 года назад +1

      Great question! There is rounding going on here. 2:1 is 33.3333333% I enter my ratio into soap calc using a 33% ratio, which isn’t technically 2:1. It’s close! It is more just meant to be a guideline. Water is a lot more optional. I normally just look at the lye calculation and multiply it by 2. I don’t even pay much attention to the water % listed any more! 273g water vs 277g water is negligible. But please make sure to use the exact amount of lye. Hope this helps!

    I would love to try this recipe. May I ask what the super fat is and what Lye percentage you used? Thank you so much! Can’t wait to try carrot in soap. X

      This is a 6% superfat and 33% lye solution listed in the recipe.

    So if I wanted to add fragrance in this, do I just add the recommended percentage (like 3%) of the total amount of grams in the recipe? Sorry I’m new, love your soap by the way. Also love your videos! ❤️❤️

    Quick question, the container you used for your lye, what size is it and where did you get it?
