I got my degree in chemistry and am now working as a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry but I’ve always been so interested in soapmaking. This year i finally decided to go for it, so I’ve been researching and watching all kinds of videos. I loveeee watching your videos in particular because you speak my language! I love numbers and ratios and chemicals, it’s just how my brain works things out. Thank you for not dumbing it down; your technical videos make me so excited to make my first batch of soap! I’m still purchasing supplies, but it will happen soon!
And I’m an English teacher with no math ability, but Elly is so easy to follow that I am newly empowered to move beyond precalculated recipes. Thank you!
Mrs. Elly, honestly allow me to say that this was the best video tutorial after haved watched 100 plus videos. I have no words to thank you enough!!! Your time and efforts are very appreciated. I found my teacher... 🤗💚
I print all my recipes off Soapcalc. I store them in a 3 ring binder in sheet protectors. I add notes before and after I make each soap. I cycle through a variety of recipes. I continue to experiment with different oils and additives. Like you, I gift my soaps to friends and family. I get their feedback. This is, by far, the exciting skill I've learned. I still get goosebumps when it's time to cut into a soap.
Ooh, I love that. I considered printing my recipes, but I like to tweak them all the time! There's something magic about my little notebooks. I love them.
Lol I was just going to type this. I’ve been keeping my food recipes and personal care recipes in binders with sheet protectors. I don’t know why but I kept losing my little notebooks and sheets of paper with my notes and recipes 😂 never to be found again.
Hello Elly, from far away Ghana in West Africa, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your videos have inspired me to take up soapmaking, and I've been at it for nearly two years now. I'm on retirement after a very active life and your videos have been a game changer for me. I'm so grateful. ❤❤❤
This is so helpful - all of your tutorials are clear, and I think you may be the only person who breaks down math in such a way that I don't have an anxiety attack! Always grateful that you share so much. Looking forward to experimenting with citric acid.
What an AWESOME tutorial. I just became interested in soap making so I am trying to get some knowledge before starting. I have searched many videos and became overwhelmed trying to understand but then I came across your videos; yours is the only one that I am able to understand thus far. I feel like I'm in "virtual" soap making school. Thank you so much for sharing! I look forward to making my first batch soon!!
I am borrowing your comments just to add that's how I felt watching this tutorial. Is exactly what i was thinking after watching Elly's video to say to her. It's my turn now to thank her very much. Want to leave my comments here for her to see that her time and efforts making this tutorial were very much appreciated. After 100 plus videos, finally, i got it.. I can even say that after this video, now can understand how to use a soap calculator. My first batch will be in your name Mrs. Elly! 🤗💚
I thank God for how your mind truly simplifies complex configurations. I followed your instructions on adding citric acid for my laundry soap bars to turn into the powdered & liquid forms. They turned out perfect!!! Although my liquid laundry detergent turned into a thick white goupy substance, I lost my beautiful golden pourable viscosity, but it still cleans our clothes & dishes very well. I learn the "why's" from you, which I truly like knowing. Thanks again Ellie 🤓
Thanks Monica, the same has now happened with my laundry liquid too! Turns out my weather was warmer than I realised and it gelled eventually as the days got cooler here.
Exactly the same with me too. I have a semi white gel of liquid soap from the making of your lovely easy peasy newest liquid soap recipe. But it is still very good, and easy to manage. 1-2 tablespoon scoops in the washing machine or hand wash bucket. I had to decant it from the gallon container to a 3L plastic tub. as it wasn’t pourable. Perfect. I wonder if it was because I added a little citric acid water to the water as there was none in the soap bar? I didn’t change anything else. Or the colder weather in the UK? What do you think?
I've not made the laundry soap yet, but wish to, and our house here in central TX doesn't really vary much yr-round from 16C indoors. Should I just leave it in an open container from the start?
This was a GREAT tutorial. Straight forward and really easy to follow. This is the most useful recipe design video I have seen. I am new to soap making and this is such a gift. Thank you.
As an art major with a math minor, I’m loving all this! I’m completely new to soap making. I’m part of a crafters’ group, and we lost our soap maker, so I volunteered to give it a whirl. I’ve successfully made one batch so far. I’m such a nerd, though, and this is right up my alley.
Elly, I have learned much from all your videos. Thank you for all you provide. If I take a break from soap making I always go back to your videos for a refresher. Thank you so much. You absolutely Rock and make soap making very clear.
Ohhh thank u very much ,from the long time ago i have watched more than 500 videos of soap making as i was decided last year to go with cold pressed soap making business in Maharashtra India, ur videos r very helpfull to make decisions ,still iam learning phase hopefully will start my own business in coming couple of months....thanks a lot.
Thank you so much! You’re an amazing teacher. I’ve watched so many of your videos and they have helped me immensely. I’m new to soap making. Can’t wait for part 2.
What a super updated calculation video. I had to smile when I saw that your white board has sprouted legs!!!😊 Many of your videos got me started over a year ago and I thank you for that very much! All the very best to you!
This is a WONDERFUL tutorial on just what I needed for my soapmaking! Thank you for making it clear.....and yes, it is CLEAR.....and for making it an enjoyable video to watch while absorbing all the math!
it seems like i attend actual class of soap making...surely watch your video Ma'am... im so now inlove in soap making, but im still studying😊 Thank you for sharing
The way you go around soapmaking is really easy on me. I get overwhelmed easily by new things. And looking at you teach helps me absorb it all while staying calm. Loved that you made a recipe on neem soap and aloe vera. Will do that InshaAllah. Just that I wanted a different oil blend to fit my budget and ease of accessibilty. Thank you for all that you do❤
Elly! You are by FAR the best instructor and guide on this subject - soap! I've been watching ALL of your videos/lessons/tutorials on the soap making process. All cool and down to earth to boot. Thank you MUCH! Super grateful 😊
Hello! Fellow soaper here. I can't believe this is the first time I'm seeing your videos here, but glad I found you. I did a soap calc tutorial, but to be honest I actually like to write my recipes in a notebook too!!
Elly, that was awesome. Your love for soap making shows in your teaching with many smiles. Great job explaining everything, you took the hard work out of it for us, much appreciated. I shall try this recipe as due to make a new batch. So easy to relate to, in your explanation. Many Thanks ❤
What an excellent video! I'm new to soap making & i don't just want to follow a recipe, I'm quite curious to know WHY certain ingredients are in specific ratios & what exactly they do to eventually formulate my own recipes. This video is exactly what i was looking for. Thank you so much for making it easy for me to understand. i'm off to watch the other mentioned videos.
Hey Elly! Wow, I finally got around to watching this tutorial that I've been wanting to watch. Just to echo previous commentary, you are by far my favorite mentors in the soapmaking world. I too love how technical you get in your presentations. Because that in all honesty is how my brain works: ratios = this, percentages equate that. So I for one appreciate your astute explanation of the citric acid additive. Finally, someone doesn't dummy down the explanations! You have always talked my language, but I really wanted you to know how much I enjoyed watching and listening to this tutorial. It feels to my brain the equivalent of drinking a perfectly tempered glass of water. The info you impart - always goes down so easily! Thanks again for taking the time!

Thank you for this video, Elly. I learned to soapcalc from your first soap recipe formulating video. I've been making my own formulations since then. Appreciate your effort so much! You're an effective teacher 👍 This is helpful to me as well since I have never tried using citric acid before. I have it in my inventory but I've never used it. I will give it a try now. Much love!♥
Thank YOU, Elly! This is SO helpful. You are so clear to explain. You should consider formulating a whole course on a course platform (I would be your first student). You are just great. Thank you SO MUCH for your time, for your generosity to share your experties/knowledge with us. Thank you! 😍😘
Elly! Thank you so, so much for all of your videos! They're so clear and concise. I'm devouring all of them and am ALMOST ready to make some soap. I'm going to use a wax as one of my "oils," however, and am having a hard time because it's not in any of the calculators (bayberry wax.) So, I'm going to have to do all the calculations by hand. Wish me luck!
OMG, that was sooooo good! Yes helpful, useful, wow, yes, I got it, yes I hung in there by the elastic of my pants hehehe. I am so going to do what you have with writing down all the required details for the different molds I use. I don't have loads. That was a great lesson on the inclusion of CA. Thank you Elly 🌺🌺🌺
Thanks so much, Elly. Great refresher. I followed every word thanks to your previous videos where I’ve learned so much. Since I started calculating capacity of molds, I’ve been doing 70% which I think I learned from you but now I’ll switch to 65%.
Wow!! You are so generous and thoroughly comprehensive in your explanations, I wonder what el your subscribers get!! Do you go to their houses and make the soap for themselves?? 🥰🥰🥰 Thanks for always remembering such important concepts in soap making to all of us!! Hugs from Argentina!!
Wow I just love the way you explain everything as a teacher myself I can notice easily a good pedagog and you are! Im going to try that exact recipe because Im not good with calculator as a beginner cp maker… Im scared of making mistakes in the calculator so a HUGE thank you for this amazing tutorial 😊😊
Thank you madam for this greatful information and knowledge I already was confused about how to use citric acid in the soap making but I have gone through the blog it was understanding but I'm little doubtful but this video explained me greatly I always use lye concentration method because I already watched 3 types of calculating but I find lye concentration is easy because water:lye ratio method to me personally it's little confusing I don't know why . I learned many new things and very happy to start my morning by seeing your video and taking notes waiting for the part _2 video mam . Thank you madam lots of love and appreciation for your efforts 🥰👏🥳♥️
I was contemplating subscribing because I'm getting into soapmaking and one or two of your videos have popped up and been useful... but you being a fellow lefthander clinched the deal :)
Excellent Elly, Im actually very poor in maths but the way you explained is very clear and easy to understand. Iam very interested to fallow your calculation and try soon. Thank you soo much ❤
Wow! Elly, you have a new fan here in Tennessee! Though I gotta say, think a few brain cells may have spontaneously imploded with all that math! I love you work it all out first before using a calculator. There are some things that just need to be worked out by a human first 😀. You are a fantastic teacher and looking forward to checking out your other offerings!
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Perhaps a couple more, wouldn't want to get a big head! 😉 Getting things pulled together to make my first batter! Watching all your videos and love the added guidance and lessons learned.
Elly, I love chemistry so this is all fascinating. I wish I would have had you for my high school math teacher because I did not really understand math until I got a great teacher in college. You make this so simple and I love your laugh and personality. You are so relatable! Thank you for explaining all of this. 😊
Wow Elly, I learned alot watching this! Now I understand the properties in the mixing process better than just "watching other videos" of people making soap! You helped me understand the calculations needed and understand why. Thanks! Great video! :)
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking been binge watching your videos lately, been wanting to start possibly making my own soap now, not necessarily for cost but I believe in "preparation" and knowledge like this is priceless, God forbid if the stores ever close and never open again! lol Learning all I can lately! :)
Un grand merci pour vos explications claires et détaillées !!! Créer ses propres savons est pour moi un loisir très gratifiant et vos vidéos m'ont vraiment beaucoup appris !!!
This was very informative. I have been wanting to do my own recipes but was at a loss and very intimidated by the soap calculating. I am still learning. Your detailed explanations makes the process a lot less complicated and intimidating. ❤
Elly that tutorial was really clear and well explained. A couple questions I haven't seen you deal with. I've starting using sodium lactate in my hot process soap. I like the texture and the soap dries more quickly. Also salt makes a harder bar and sugar produces more lather. I've been experimenting with both. You haven't mentioned these 3 items in your recipes or maybe just incidentally. Just curious about your thoughts on same? Thanks!
Hi there, yes there are a multitude of additional ingredients you can add to your soap bars, but they all have their drawbacks too. I mainly wanted to show the citric acid main calculation in this video. I don't use sodium lactate anymore, did years ago, but it's just another ingredient I don't think I really need to be honest. Salt, yes, it's great too, but can hamper the lather. I didn't include it here because I don't use it that often :)
Another great video Elly, appreciate all the time you put into them . I’m onto my second soap book , also since 2014 and write EVERYTHING down too so I can refer back to it in case of a weird batch. My last Hot Process Aldi supergreens batch turned out crumbly and I have no idea why but it’s now Laundry Soap 🤣🤣, thanks to good ole Washing Soda! That DIY laundry soap recipe of yours is brilliant. 😊

Thanks Arlo, stick with 70% if that's been working for you. I change the level depending on other factors in the recipe.
Wow!! You are so generous and thoroughly comprehensive in your explanations, I wonder what el your subscribers get!! Do you go to their houses and make the soap for themselves?? 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for always remembering such important concepts in soap making to all of us!!
Hugs from Argentina!!
Thanks Ramiro!
I always had a hard time understanding the caiculating part but you made it clear and simple! For a new B Thanks!!
oh, that's great! Glad it helped. :)
You are a great teacher. I understood everything you taught me and believe me, I am a tough student.
Very reliable and I really learned a lot from all of your tutorials❤ thank you for sharing some knowledge to us.
Most interesting! Thank you Elly.
Thanks Kajol :)

I was contemplating subscribing because I'm getting into soapmaking and one or two of your videos have popped up and been useful... but you being a fellow lefthander clinched the deal :)
😁🙌
Its just amazing. So nicely explained.
I enjoy all your videos and really appreciate the details.
Such great information!!
Thank you, Laura! :)
Excellent Elly, Im actually very poor in maths but the way you explained is very clear and easy to understand. Iam very interested to fallow your calculation and try soon. Thank you soo much ❤
I love your explanation y are such a soul with beautiful heart ♥️ thanks for such informations
You did an amazing job. I am a beginner soap maker, and so appreciate this presentation.
Thanks so much.
Thanks so much Michelle, I'm sure you've got more brain cells now after watching that, not less 😂
Thank you!
Wow Elly, I learned alot watching this! Now I understand the properties in the mixing process better than just "watching other videos" of people making soap! You helped me understand the calculations needed and understand why. Thanks! Great video! :)
Thanks Brian! Glad this was helpful. If you haven't seen them, you'd probably love my other 'techy' videos too :)
Super useful, thank you so much Elly !!
Un grand merci pour vos explications claires et détaillées !!! Créer ses propres savons est pour moi un loisir très gratifiant et vos vidéos m'ont vraiment beaucoup appris !!!
Je t'en prie!
This was very informative. I have been wanting to do my own recipes but was at a loss and very intimidated by the soap calculating. I am still learning. Your detailed explanations makes the process a lot less complicated and intimidating. ❤
Thanks so much.
Brilliant! Just Brilliant!
Thankyou so much, Ellie👍
You're welcome Judy
Thanks Elly l’m always learning when l watch you.. so well explained
Thanks Nerina.
Yes this is what I needed
Thank you I love your videos they help and relax me too
You are so welcome
I think you're an amazing teacher!
Thank you :)
Thanks Jo! I may not see it if you reply, but won't the supergreens make your washing green? Use for dark coloured clothes I guess :)
Great instruction , very handy calcs , thank you
