Imagine the outcome if Viserys just said "ok, I'll annul your marriage to the bronze bitch, you marry Rhaenyra and your kids can marry Alicent's kids and we all live happily incestly together". We'll squeeze Leanor and Laena in there somewhere, problem solved, you get a dragon, you get a dragon and you get a dragon, Valyria 2.0
Don’t think we’d be having much of a show but the more we see them suffe the more we’ll think such thoughts.
@@mistercheetah9717 Yeah, guess there would be problems either way, that's how Westeros works 🤷♂
Lol
Lmao
Only if😂😅
I think Damon’s reaction was way more complex than just losing power. He expected a young naive Rhaenyra and instead was met with a powerful young dragon. He can’t go through with it because his original motives were reduced when faced with the reality of a young woman he respects and likes way more than he expected. It’s twisted and dark but I love the fact that Rhaenyra is wayyyy more like Damon than he expected and that undid his plan. His emotions got the better of him
wack
It's true. He turned her around to take her but she turned back around to face him abd he couldn't do it with her facing him.
I completely agree !!! Very well said 🐉🐉
Yes I agree they are the Blood of the Dragon very much so
100%. testosterone is a hell of a drug, and she surprised him and left him on the backfoot.
Let’s also not forget moon-tea is what Cersei repeatedly took so she wouldn’t have Bobby Bs children
That’s wild. Had to effect her in different ways
Poor Crispon, not because he was “taken advantage of”, but because he’s about to get his heart broken in the next episode. I feel he really likes her, even though it’s punishable by death for them to be together.
That man is in love with her.
Lol.....omg, I cannot. He's really gonna be "Crispon" now in the fandom, huh?
😂😂😂
That's too funny
@@ClaytonScottRhodes It's the Dickon moment of HotD😂😂
@@Darkstar_Dayne Wait, his name isn't really Dickon?? 😂😂😂
They have absolutely crushed the character of Alicent. So incredible to see what she’s gone through already and how this feeds her desire in the future. So well done to expand upon her in this way. I’ve always thought there was much more to her character than Fire and Blood could explain. So dope!
Totally! F&B portrayed her as perhaps the next Cersei, and she may well turn into that in time, but her being so young when she was "reading" to Old King Jaehaerys, and then again to Viserys...always suggested to me that she was actually directed by Otto Hightower instead.
It just seemed way too Machiavellian to be entirely conceived and orchestrated by a teenager, all by herself.
And the show making her both a sympathetic character in her own right, AND a friend of Rhaenyra...is just going to make it all the more heartbreaking, what's to come.
I hated her before the show, b cause I thought she was the instigator of the whole affair. But wow and woe!
She is a prisoner of royalty, and has little choice but to play the game of thrones.
Song name?
Yessssss I love her they are not making her the villain she reminds me a little of Sansa when she was young and naïve
Still team black lol
I can't believe some critic wrote that Alicent became interesting only when big time skip happened. She has so much depth right now. I love it and really scared of what's to come
I’m personally not listening to any critics who aren’t knee deep into the lore. It’s just a totally different take.
@@blacklite911 They're the Jon Snow of real word
"They Know Nothing "
Best episode by a mile, especially as a book reader. Made that whole night amazing and adapted the material so well.
YES!!!!! 100%%%
This portrayal of Alicent is so, so good. I'd never thought before the show that I'd be taking her side so much.
Right! I appreciate the effort they’re putting into telling a story realistically. I do wonder if they’re doing that just so we don’t fully hate her for the stuff she’s gonna pull in future seasons/episodes
Agreed, but that doesn’t mean I’m
not annoyed at how much I care for her.
I sensed more than just concern from Alicent. I picked up jealousy. Rhae is outchea living it up for the city and Alicent wishes it could be her. That’s the vibe I got.
As Otto was walking out of the Red Keep, Rhaenyra yelled out a window, " You played yourself! "
That 'King of the Narrow Sea' crown may have been kindergarten crafts quality, but it had a huge-ass ruby attached to the front of it, which I thought was an interesting detail.
The king fucking Alicent strongly reminded me of the wives of Henry VIII, especially 4th and onwards, because by then he was much older, extremely overweight, and had an ulcer on his leg that never healed (actively rotted, constantly filling with pus, which was not only gross to look at but stank terribly). The only thing Alicent has going for her that's different is her king at least isn't also clinically insane, and tries to be kind to her, but her entire situation is heartbreaking.
Not only his wives but the women he took in to sleep with. As he was known to have illegitimate children.
However his fourth wive was a bit more lucky as the marriage was never consummated and the marriage was annulled. So she didn't have do deal with him for too long as the annulment happened within the same year they were married. Next wife was very unlucky.
YOOO “the king sent the ‘r u up’ text to Alicent” lmaoooo! You kill me
A Booty Call🤪🤭😁!!! Just Nasty!! 🤢!!
Favorite episode because it was messy af 😂. The Blackwood and Braken fight was my fave. 🥰
Facccctttttssss 🤣🤣🤣
Team Blackwood all day Lol
I felt it was unrealistic that the child won. Unless they're both the same age, say 14 or 15, but one is tall so looks 16/17 while tge Blackwood is short for his age so looks 13/14.
@@TheAstroWitchLux ....but I think that Bracken had a dagger and Blackwood had a sword.
Even a 14-year-old with a sword would be dangerous, if you're trying to get close enough to use a dagger.
My Favourite Episode......also I was waiting for your take on this since they aired the episode! I thought the scene between Rhaenyra and Cristion Cole was beautiful, sweet and loving. The Directors did say Criston has been carrying a torch for the princess for a long time, and it's consensual
You can see it's consensual. He wavers back and forth and they show him thinking about it but he does give in to his feelings and the power exchange isn't really an issue because he made a decision. Consenting adults. Is Rhaenyra in the wrong for asking him to make that choice.....yep but he also chose to do it and it's his vows he broke by choice.
I absolutely love your reviews/breakdowns 😁 please continue to take your time!! I really appreciate the quality of your work and the effort you put in ☺️
This episode is also my favorite so far! It was amazing and actually tastefully done. My favorite part was the paralleling scenes between Rhaenyra experiencing sex as a pleasure and something to be enjoyed and reveled in along side scenes of Alicent just experiencing sex as a baby making machine with ZERO pleasure. I honestly feel Alicent was jealous and that’s why she sounded so bitter and pissed when confronting Rhaenyra. Alicent is forced to have sex as a duty but Rhaenyra experiences pleasure.
i love them too. i watch recaps on other channels, and am so glad i found this one. Gray Area is the bomb!!! so entertaining. love this channel.
Feel tha same way.
Thanks y’all!☺️☺️❤️
I feel like the reason Viserys never truly lived up to being a true Targaryen is because he was only a dragon rider for a shorty period of time. And he never takes another dragon(which I think is the norm for dragon riders when their dragons die)
Dragon rider is (as far our knowledge goes) tied to one dragon. Trying to bond with more than one, even if first one died, would end tragically. Dragon on the other hand, once the rider dies, bond is broken and it can bond with new rider
ZADDY DAEMON!! Had me ready to learn how to ride a dragon 🐉 🔥
Best episode of the season so far!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that was cheering on the blackwood kid
There are certainly some power dynamic involved in the Rhaenyra/Cole situation, but like you said, Cole can actually reject her(both physically and mentally, he is stronger, more mature, and more sober). Rejecting her is also the objectively safer option for him anyway because getting involved in this kind of affairs will get him fired/killed/exiled.
So Cole's struggle here is literally just his personal desire for the princess and his duty/oath.
To say no to his master seems like a dangerous option too. Anyone in his position wouldn’t actually know what to do when the situation presents itself. There’s no safe option and he was put in that position because of Rhaenyra. If he rejects her, he doesn’t know what Rhaenyra, with her power and influence, would do. Like Cole once said, because of her, he has risen above his station. He has the trust of the royal family. She could take that away and then some if she ends up feeling offended. It ended up being consensual, sure, but in this dynamic, Rhaenyra has the power, not Criston. I disagree with the people saying she raped him, but I also don’t think we should dismiss the power imbalance and say Criston could easily reject Rhaenyra if he wanted to. In a regular workplace environment, it’s already understandable why employees find it complicated to say “no” to their bosses when asked for sexual favours, I would imagine it’s even more of an imbalance to say “no” to your princess.
@@kingofmeereen I never say it's not a difficult situation, but rejecting is still the safer option overall. Rhaenyra has the power, but not immediate absolute control over the situation in terms of her physical/mental capacity under that circumstances.
Let's say a drunken military officer tells a soldier to shoot a puppy/civilian(when your rules of engagement strictly forbids it), etc, and disobeying the order/going with the order both could get the guy court marshalled, not doing it is still arguably the better/safer option.(Said officer cannot actually compell you to do anything other than his word of authority.)
In the Rhaenyra/Cole case of course, the worst Rhaenyra can do to Cole should he refuse is probably spreading vile rumors against him or something that can damn him, buuuuut, the other option is like a guaranteed death sentence if it actually got found out.
Yes this situation is fucked up a bit, but it's more because there is no institutional gurantee for Cole to protect himself 100%(which, again, is the norm for ASOIAF universe), his fate mostly rely on Rhaenyra's good faith.(But actually sleeping with her will not only require good faith from her part, but also others never finding out.)
THANK YOU for posting this! 👏 Plus the director confirmed it’s consensual as well
I don't recall any objections to Renly sleeping with Loras (a member of his Kingsguard)
@@lcvick I think it’s ‘cause Renly really wasn’t actually king (his army is mostly bolstered by Tyrell troops along with Baratheon ofc) and it seemed like they had a relationship even before Renly decided to name himself king (at least in the show, we saw Loras putting the idea to Renly while he was shaving him lol). Also, Loras is a Tyrell. His station is considerably higher than Criston who himself claims Rhaenyra is the reason he is where he is now.
Excellent video. I would like to add one more item. Don't bring a dagger to a sword fight. Samwell Blackwood had what looked like a bastard sword. The arrogant Bracken had a woefully inadequate dagger.
LMAO at Caraxes saying “I can’t take you no where!” Joke 😂😂😂
Same!
I LITERALLY wait for your episode breakdowns because the amount of LIFE they Shower upon me. You genuinely put the biggest smile on my face and a bigger cramp in my stomach from laughing at your commentary. I am a fan of the books I am fan of the TV series and I am a huge fan of your channel, always have, but it’s these breakdowns are next level!!! Youare spot on accurate!!! accurate and yes our hearts will break (faaaack) nothing has been more entertaining than watching the breakdowns of the episodes that you’ve been making. They are gold, they are everything and then some. So I just want to say thank you because you’re genuinely making me look forward to not only one of my favorite shows but with the same level of excitement of your breakdown of said show. You are amazing!!! And my only comment about “taking advantage” I’m sorry but the only person that was being taken advantage of sexually was Alicent because she literally said NO!!! “The hour is late” not to bring up that trigger word but that really was like a consensual/non-consensual marital rape and you’re absolutely right I am Tim black but my heart broke.
Dude you are too good at this 😂😂 I can’t get enough of your content.
The chemistry between daemon an rhaenyra is very real an powerful 🐉
Yuck
That scene with Viserys and Ally gave me Henry VIII and Katherine Howard vibes. They old asses need to be in quarantine with round-the-clock wound care. Instead, they pumping they old asses against these young girls and all the while thinking in their own heads how lucky these women are to be in a King's bed....Barf...
I love it but can’t stand the thought of all the dragons deaths
Take your time Gray. You killing it Madame.
I do think it ended up consensual BUT I definitely feel for Christian! It was clear that he was hesitant when she approached him and she saw that and didn’t respect it. She is his boss and he basically owes her for everything as we saw when she chose him he was a commoner with no house. I get the feeling that Christian probably loves her, he had no idea that he was a rebound and now he’s about to watch her get married and sleep with another guy ouch. The stakes are also totally mismatched for them. If they get caught maybe she isn’t queen but remains a princess, or she stays single (the horror) whereas he could end up at the wall for the rest of his life or with his head on the spike.
Thank you
So many Rhaenyra apologists and stans here it gets old. There was a clear power imbalance, how could he say no? She holds all the cards, aaaand he was 100% a rebound. Fucked up. You can easily conclude he falls for her but he's only ever a fling to her, which is likely what leads to the betrayal. Rhaenyra ain't exactly a good person...but some will always stan her
I don’t think he didn’t want to per say, obviously there is a chemistry there. However, I definitely think his options were limited. There is a power dynamic, in this case the drunk, teenage girl is the heir to the iron throne-Cole is a servant to her. She has proven to be fairly irrational and petty (not negative traits, but a pretty typical teenager) whose to say she doesn’t dismiss him from the kings guard? Strip land, titles, and favors from his family? Exiled to the wall? Or get him caught and executed for breaking his vows?
But we seem to forgive the royal males in this universe for doing the same things-she’s just another member of the ruling class, taking what she wants. Guess I shouldn’t harp on it too much, lol.
I haven’t read the book yet, so I don’t know what/who rhaenyra is, just observations from the show so far.
@@bobstubesocks you're onto something, I won't spoil anything but she's not a hero by any means and some fans are in for a rude awakening down the line. She's not evil, but she's a messy, at times unlikable, pampered royal
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy firstly, the director said it was consensual but this poster also said they thought it was consensual, doesn’t sound like you agree
@@Peecamarke I actually don't think that they are disagreeing with that, I think that we're making a mistake if we confuse consensual for totally a okay with no moral ambiguity (example if you watch Euphoria Cassie and Nate are consensual even though that relationship is SOOOO messed up). I think R and C getting together was consensual AND problematic at the same time if that makes sense, and I think they are saying that too?
This was by far my favorite episode. That said, the 'inside the episode' commentary saying Daemon actually intended to sleep w/Rhaenyra to hurt Viserys diminished things a bit. To me, it seemed far more likely that Daemon only wanted the perception that something happened to try to force a marriage w/Rhaenyra rather than try to hurt Viserys by actually sleeping with her. That's the impression I got during the episode and reading the book. Not to mention, it set Otto up and got him dismissed. It's the ultimate checkmate in Daemon's longstanding chess match w/Otto since Otto stays trying to get Daemon exiled...thinking Daemon just perfectly executed this amazing scheme that will get him everything he wants, only for some director to hop on screen after the episode and say nope; he actually wanted to hurt his brother by defiling his niece and only failed cause he couldn't get it up when she assumed sexual control is pretty disappointing, and frankly a lame interpretation of the events. If that's what they were going for the setup was poor. It took away from an otherwise brilliant episode. For me anyway.
Great point about Daemon being the straw that got the hand cut off...
Why wouldn't he want to hurt Viserys a bit after leaving him in the stepstones taking Ls and only sending help after 3 years. Daemon is petty and while he clearly loves his bro, he is also resentful, lustful and prideful.
I really don't like the 'inside the episode' commentary. Like, let us make our own interpretations rather than telling us what to think.
As long as it doesn't contradict what's shown, it think your headcanon is perfectly valid!
@@melina_0455 Maybe don't watch it then. I haven't watched any of that stuff since the D&D Dany kinda forgot shenanigans
@@nostalgicbliss5547 oh I don't. It's just that everyone talks about it.
I can't believe this show got them having so much chemistry - got us rooting for incest, damn 😩🤣 lol
I be making excuses & supporting my boo Daemon regardless. This show is wild. But so is the story! I can't wait to see more. I'm loving it!
that's where the show is best. it makes us root for people in other circumstances would be villains. good writing takes us deep into the "Grey Area" in morality, justice, love and war.
I agree I see Daemon and Rhaenyra very similar and Daemon is a monster but I like their chemistry together as well
“Rooting for incest” is a wild nasty phrase!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Not me. It was creepy.
@@dorethareeves6444 You're soft
Lor Blackwood yo just FUBAR’ing that dude had me dying 😂
That moon tea is a setup! If Rhae drinks the moon tea it confirms the rumors about Rhae and Daemon. Her words don't mean ish in the ears of men especially her father and Ser Otto. Daemon was on some real revenge type shit. He said "Choose Otto over me and I'll smash your daughter!" That's some diabolical shit! That's hurting Viserys' soul that's cutting him 'til the white meat shows! Daemon is King Petty!
At this point, I don't think the King cares if it's true or not or who's lying. He just isn't taking any chances.
Honestly.....you take your time @GrayArea and you do you.
We're here for your unique perspective...and it's just good to be hearing your voice doing episode explanations again ...gives me nostalgia, like it's 2016 again or something. Lol
I Ioveeeeee this episode!!! It was RAW literally …. I love Daemon an his crazy ass sense of humor an his I don’t give a f!$ attitude, Raynera is a bad ass I feel like ppl need to understand the Targaryen ways it’s in their culture to be with one another … in a romantic way to keep the line pure … this was by far the best episode 🐉🐉🐉
For me the most important part of the episode was the repair of Alicent and Rhaenyra’s relationship. Rhaenyra feels for Alicent’s position and realizes what her marriage to her father is doing to her. Meanwhile Alicent takes Rhaenyra’s word and stands up for her during the Flea Bottom scandal.
ABSOLUTELY consensual !!! They both wanted it, and actually, it was probably the most "wanted" she's been ...possibly ever!...Meaning, this was someone that was actually being with her because he wanted, not for any motive, not for what he can get from her...and definitely not because of her status/position, he just wanted to be with HER (and likewise tbh)!
And in some respects, regardless of how his allegiance changes.... I feel they both reflect on each other as the one that got away or the one that could have never been that got away, cuz in a different place and time. I think they would have made an amazing couple. They're a little bit Cleopatra/ Marc Antony esque.
Daemon wants to keep the Targaryen bloodline solid. He wants his big brothers approval. He loves his big bro, I don't care what he Saud or does...oh and I'm glad that Blackwood kid put it on ol' boy
I was impatiently waiting for your review !!
I definitely felt for Alicent in that scene. Team Blacks all the way, but I think the show runners are going to make that choice real difficult.
Thank GOD I found your channel!!! Love everything about your commentary, especially how you break it down for people like myself who have not read the books. New subbie!!!❤️❤️

I love the way you break things down!!! You are killing it...
I missed your theories so much! Im so excited to follow you
I’m with you mama , this episode was my favorite. This feels like a grown man’s ( or women ) GOT .
I love your breakdown/review. Can't wait for next week.
I'm going to be real honest with you, I'm so disturbed by the marital rape of Alicent because that was my marriage and it was so painful to watch that happen that I'm still kind of messed up by it. Just the thought of not being able to say no. Like you don't even get to say that, you just have to lay there and take it. I don't think I have the mental wherewithal to examine how the guard felt when Rhaeyana went after him. Like It think it is very strange. It's an odd dynamic were he's older, she is young, she also knows she has political power as he heir to the throne, she also made him a guard, and he's still older than her. Its really messy. Add to that, she pressed this because her uncle didn't give her sexual satisfaction which is something I wish I didn't type out.
I also felt bad for Ser Cole. Yes he is older than her, but Rhaenyra has power over him. At one moment, when he realized what Rhaenyra wanted to do with him, he had a slight expression of fear. If he doesn't have sex with her, he could be killed. If he does have sex with her, he could still be killed. Either way, Cole could face death. We shouldn't dismissed Cole simply because he is a man. If the roles were reversed, Cole was a 19 year old prince, heir to the throne and Rhaenyra was an older servant in the castle and this same situation occurred, would we not question the power dynamic between the two?
I mean, the director confirmed it was consensual. I assumed that’s why they showed him taking to time to think about it and she gave him that solace, didn’t demand it 🤷🏿
@@Peecamarke Oh I agree. It was just a weird coming together of power imbalances. He's older, she's royalty, he's a man, she's the heir, and she had just spent time making out with her uncle in a brothel. And after watching the scene with Alicent which was a little too similar to my own marriage, my brain just went "Nope" and it was too much to process.
Thank you GrayArea, this is just what I needex to better understand. Please keep it up as always! 🐾🦁
I don't think Daemon knows she's in the spy business. He didn't even know she was no longer in the "skin trade" as she called it. To Daemon, it didn't matter how it got to Otto, because he knew it was going to get to Otto one way or another. After he removes her hat, the patrons in the brothel recognize her. You can hear them say, "Princess Rhaenyra," "The princess," etc.
Great video though. I love your breakdowns.

Gray - your best video ever. Funny and informative!
I'm so glad you're back. Your narration is 🔥
I wouldn’t go so far to say Ser Christen Cole couldn’t consent but it did place him in an unfair position where he’s damned if he does if someone finds out and damned if he doesn’t and she takes offense to rejection. Rhaenyra doesn’t show this in her character but say someone like Cersei does it she probably wouldn’t hesitate to lie on him to get him stripped of titles and sent to the wall or something. Rhaenyra specifically, probably wouldn’t do it at this point but that’s still within her power, even if she was physically vulnerable in that situation, she could flip it on him the next day and it’s her word against his.
Agreed. In F&B he is said to have rejected her, though.
@@cjtorres5917 I know, that’s why I feel like if you remove Rhaenyra specifically and put in someone who is more vindictive, it better illustrates how that power dynamic can be abused.
Thank you Gray, awesome analysis 🥰

I just love your recaps!! Hilarious.
Dude, Gray I live in South Africa and really love your videos, I'm looking forward to you bringing the Juice on this breakdown 🤘🏾❤
Definitely the best episode of the season. Like Daemon, Rhaenyra is strong and independent and I think this unsettles him sometimes because it's the effect he normally has on other people being mirrored back to him. She has a bit of power over him. Rhaenyra was the one who got him to give back the dragon egg, and then he runs away in the brothel too. Really like the way they are portraying their bond. It's going to make the rest of the story even more intriguing for me than what we read in Fire and Blood.
Love your juice as always Gray!!
i love your commentary on this! you’re hilarious i’ll be looking forward to more videos especially from HOTDS2
Alicent's fate as a baby machine in a loveless marriage reminded me of Princess Diana's marriage to Charles.

Another good episode. The best part was the look on Otto's face when Viserys demotes him. He looks like someone just curbstomped his puppy.

This was an outstanding recap! Also, I'm 💯 with your editorials. Slap down all those ignorant fools!🏆
I enjoy your commentary so much!!
GRRM made a remark that the showrunners have made improvements on the book in some areas, and I can only agree. Alicent has been made FAR more nuanced and Emily Carey has been excellent. A strange thing that I was nervous about the casting of Alicent & Rhaenyra before the show and now I'm nervous about them leaving haha. Saying that the performances across the board are terrific. Very ggod show.
Btw: Mysaria in that scene doesn't "pay the little boy". He's giving her money. Obviously from Otto when Mysaria sends him to Otto after learning about Rhaenyra.
I thought the way the sex scene between Rhaenyra and Ser Criston was shot implied a few times that someone may have been watching.
I really hope not 😱
"Caraxes, the Throat Goat"
"Daemon and his arts and crafts crown"
Why are you so damn FUNNY?!!
Houses Bracken just realized to never ever bring a knife to a sword fight…..
Thank you because my HOTD viewing experience is not complete until I watch your breakdown videos.🙌🙌
Team Black all the way. But, this show has me feeling some sympathy for team Green. I mean, she’s (18) been turned into a baby making machine for a 40 something man with sores. Thanks dad…
This was my favourite episode thus far in what is proving to be a great series. After all his shenanigans, only the Lord knows why I’m still rooting for Daemon - maybe I’m toxic 🤔🤔🤔
....cuz daemon is the best lol
He's like Tyrion n Jaime combined
Yep. Daemon is a right bastard but she did use the knight. He could not say no.
@@dorethareeves6444 I know, right?
I love Gray Area💯❤️❤️❤️, but she couldn't be more wrong about this...
I mean, if anyone finds out, it's TREASON for him and he gets beheaded in dishonor, and she gets, what, talked to by her dad?
It's setting things up very carefully,...like how she steals and laughs and runs away from someone infinitely poorer than herself.
Or how when her and Alicent are by the Weirwood, using the servant to argue with each other, it's showing how the "commoners" are seen as just pawns to be used by these high lords, playing their game of thrones.
And when the high lords play their game of thrones, the realm suffers.
It's not about which "team" is right.
Honestly, I'm "team black", when it all starts out, but GRRM wants us to choose a side, and then flip it, because he's ALWAYS going to subvert the tropes to show us...
That war sucks. No matter who you root for.
But it's not like I'm blaming just the women. I think this whole season so far could be called "Sins of the Fathers", because it's the misplaced actions of Viserys and Otto Hightower that are going to shape Rhaenyra and Alicent's rivalry, and brutally impact the entire realm.
@@ClaytonScottRhodes thank you, too many people stan for Rhaenyra like she's the next hero or something, and I can forgive casuals but GA is a longtime fan and should know that Rhaenyra is kinda a POS, just ask Adam Velaryon. She's entitled, spoiled, and can be downright cruel, her using Cole as a plaything...yeah not cool. How could he say no? She MADE HIM. So she can undo him. I can see the path that leads to their falling out
@@ClaytonScottRhodes THANK YOU
This was an absolute perfect coverage of HOTD episode 4. Cheers and thankyou so much GreyArea xo your fan Daniel Meredith xo
Hey Gray 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾😃. Gonna watch your vid now...
That scene with the king and Alicent was giving color purple.
Yessss been waiting on this ❤️
Thank you for putting into words all the things my stuttering ass can't. Much love to you and all the DWC crew!
Yes 🙌🏻 been waiting to hear your thoughts .
My favorite, son's favorite..great episode! Great breakdown.
How was there no power dynamic? She doesn’t have to feed him to syrax, there are other consequences that can occur. She’s the Queen, he’s a kings guard. That’s an obvious power dynamic.
The director confirmed it was consensual, nuff said
@@Peecamarke Where did they mention that? If it was the inside the episode all they was said was that cole carried a torch for her. He can be in love and know it’s wrong and not want to have sex with her because of his vows. They never flat out said it was consensual.
So well written and directed. Pacing, story telling, intrigue, HBO owns Sunday Night. Everything else is just a pastime to Sunday🔥🔥
*Daemon's* *Revenge* *On* *Otto*
People need to rewatch the scene when Daemon takes Rhaenyra to the public street orgies. It was planned by Daemon to get caught. You can see a brief scene with Daemon thinking by himself with his hoodie off.
Then next scene with him, Daemon takes the beanie that Rhaenyra is wearing. This location is probably close to where Mysaria (White Worm) works or used to work. Then you see Daemon walk away from the sex with Rhaenyra. Then Rhaenyra walks out. A little kid is sitting there who works for Mysaria.
How would the kid know Daemon and Rhaenyra had sex? He didn't see it. He sat near the stairs and recognized Rhaenyra walking out. Then we see a scene between Daemon and Mysaria and Daemon spills out the drink immediately that Mysaria gives him. We see the same kid give Mysaria money that's likely from Otto.
Daemon is slick. This was all planned to get Otto fired. This was revenge from Ep 1's "heir for a day" that got Daemon banished from King's Landing for 4 years. It's like a magic trick. The incest scene was our misdirection when what Daemon was really doing was wanting to get caught so Otto would get fired which he did.
Viserys does listen to Rhaenyra and the rumor came from Otto's own mouth. So Rhaenyra points out about Otto's self-interests. Nobody witnessed Daemon and Rhaenyra having sex. Since Rhaenyra denied it, Viserys will believe her. By firing Otto, it means he's trying to protect his and his daughter's public perception.
Daemon didn't deny the claims because he figured Viserys wouldn't believe him any way. And Daemon really doesn't care about how others think of him. But Rhaenyra did deny it and she wasn't lying either. So Viserys and Alicent ends up believing her. Alicent overheard her father and is only trying to cover Rhaenyra's *ss. She's against incest being part of The Faith.
Viserys ends up firing Otto for lies which they are. Daemon and Rhaenyra did NOT have sex. Rhaenyra did have sex that night but it wasn't with her uncle. That's not what she was accused for. Otto got fired for his FAKE NEWS. The kid's false eyewitness claims got him fired. Otto needs to hire more accurate reporters. Not some kid "assuming" they did something that never happened.
I bet Mysaria got jealous hearing about it. That used to be her MAN: "Daemon Targaryen. Rider of Caraxes. Wielder of Dark Sister." She misses his red wyrm that used to burn inside her.
This definitely makes sense!!! Love this theory!!
I've rewatched the episode several times, and I agree with you about Daemon's motives.
Alicent looked absolutely panicked, and jealous when she confronted Rhaenyra about Daemon. Not concerned. She also resorted to insulting the Targarians regarding incest. How is it that it would have been OK for Rhaenyra to marry her baby brother (Alicent's son) but not her uncle? Because it would have secured Aegon's claim to the throne. That's all the Hightowers care about. Rhaenyra marrying her uncle Daemon would secure Rhaenyra's claim.
Alicent is not innocent in this. She knew what she was doing when she betrayed Rhaenyra. In a previous episode, she had no problem pulling rank on her former friend and ordering her around under the weirwood tree. It's lonely at the top of the pile, with an old, dying man.
Love, love, love the score during Rhaenyra and Criston Cole's intimate scenes. It was reminiscent of Dany and John's theme. It will be interesting but heartbreaking to see why Criston betrays Rhaenyra.
He wanted to get caught to hurt his brother and marry the heir
No Otto needs to lose his head not get better informants
@@thereadingtree3492 maybe Rhaenyra betrays him? Or are we stanning her already?
That was fantastic Gray, thank you.
Your videos are the best!
