      I had my first ever comprehensive eye exam ever about 2 weeks ago. No cataracts, but apparently I had some dysfunction, possible clogging of my Meibomian glands. I was prescribed Lotemax to use for about 6 weeks total and was also told to use an eye compress and otc eye drops for the dryness.

    I had cataract surgery just before I turned 60. I always,wore sunshades as my eyes were sensitive to the sun. I have none of the problems you,spoke so and my parents didn’t have cataracts. The Dr who did my surgery put a lens in that if I don’t have my contacts in I can read without reading glasses. No one asked me any questions concerning this but I am so glad it was done this way. Thanks

    My doctor from the Philippines told me I have cataract when I went to her clinic for my allergy check up. I didn’t mind because I felt ok. I got vision examination when I applied for Driver’s license that made me disqualified not to have DL because I did not pass my vision test. I went to the optometrist, he told me I have cataract both eyes. Due to this problem my husband told me to accompany me to go to optalmologist for check up. Thank you for sharing those things that are good for the eyes to prevent cataract.

    Thank you for this information, it helps. I saw my Opthalmologist yesterday, she told me I'm starting to get cataract but 5 or 6 months ago she told me everything was fine, no cataract, no glaucoma. Now all of a sudden I have a little tiny cataract, I've been taking Preservation Ared vitamins, fish oil, Centrum multivitamins (not everyday only if can remember to take them. I started to eat broccoli again, spinach, sometimes avocado. I will follow your advice. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. I'm now 72. Last time I watch your video, you said Systane Ultra eye drops is good for dry eyes, so I went and bought it. Now that my eye doc said I have a little cataract, what eyedrops is good that will slow it down or reverse it. Thanks.

    I had cataract surgery in my 40's. One eye was seeing 3 of everything so I had no choice. Set up as monovision. No glasses and my vision has actually improved. I'm now 64 with a young person's vision. Colors are brighter. Whites are whiter. The procedure was a breeze. Don't be afraid t do it.

    Diet is very important, so is cutting carbs and no snaking! Supplementing with good Zinc, and other minerals such as potassium, and the B vitamins. Sunglases are important for those with man-replaced lenses. We were born with out sunglasses, so if we learn to make good diet choices and get our blood work checked every year or so, we can be more successful in avoiding cataracts.

    I hab cataracts due to my mother. I got them replaced 2 years ago. It has been difficult for me because I didnt select the "best" and (most expensive) option. I selected the mid option. It has given me such presbyopia that I am no longer able to see close. I feel like I was misled. Now I am paying for it. Please get the best option where your near and farsightedness are addressed in your new lenses in cataract surgery. Oh yeah....they won't replace my lenses with the ones I want. I was scheduled for surgery to replace the cataract damaged lenses in both eyes. With my wife, I changed to eating a plant based diet, recommended by my DO. After a month, the osteo arthritis pain I suffered in my toes, plantar, heels, ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and fingers (each confirmed by xray images) disappeared. Almost a year after going plant based diet, my cataracts cleared in both eyes. I phoned the optometrist and requested a new vision test before my scheduled cataract surgery. She agreed. After the new exam, she cancelled the cataract surgery for my eyes! - It was a big step to give up all meat, dairy, processed foods, oils, etc. But, the rewards to me far exceed the compromises. (Age 74!)

    Dr. Audrey Tai, I was diagnosed with cataract in 2014 and gluacoma in 2020 and aavised for surgery to remove the cataract but I declined as I am 86 years old. Dr. Tai how long does it takes for a patient to go blind? Does it depends on the pressure level of a cataract eye or gluacoma eye? Meanwhile I exercise daily, eat eye foods and eye supplement. I am not a diabetic or suffering high blood pressure, nor any other underlying medical conditions.

It certainly did help when I took these eyedrops, but after two-three weeks, I think I'll cut them out temporarily or for long term, depending on when my eye pain comes back. Dr. Ming Wang did warn me about this specific med, not to take too long, or else it might cause ill effect to my right eye (increased eyeball pressure). Or can u OpthamMD or OD optometrist see know test 100% if person has any cataract in eye(s) ? like is it black/white ..no question or doubt when u exam patient.

    Good info! I have early stage cataract, night vision is not as sharp and headlights rom oncoming traffic are a bit bothersome. But cataracts are removed only when they have 'matured' so in the meantime, are there any kind of eye glasses one can use for mitigating the glare from headlights?

    • @AmbientBeat99
      @AmbientBeat99 2 года назад +3

      My right eye has the beginnings of a cataract and I suffer the same as you, with the effects of headlight glare at night. I bought some clip-on night driving lenses for my normal eyeglasses that have reduced the glare considerably. Of course, there is still a problem, as there is for everyone, of motorists driving on high-beam or driving in normal conditions with foglights switched on, but that can't be easily remedied. I bought the clip-on lenses on eBay, 2 pairs quite cheap.

    Last year I read a study done in France that stated BLUE light was damaging to the eyes. Of course the LED technology gives off the BLUE light. What is your opinion ?

    • @smartasspatriot445
      @smartasspatriot445 Год назад

      I went legally blind in 5 years at age 55-60 from the very first sign of cataracts even though I always wear very protective sunglasses outside because my eyes are sensitive to the sun. I have controlled diabetes but I spent most of those years with a cell phone or tablet in my face. I heard about blue light putting out radiation and causing cataracts only a couple months before the exam that showed I had cataracts so thick that they couldn't see the other things in my eyes to check for diabetic retinopathy etc. The opthalmologist said "Well you're not having any vision at all, really." No wonder life had become terrifying and frustrating and I went through so much just to walk the dogs. I asked him about the blue light and he said yes it does. I asked him if blublockers glasses help and he said they help but don't block it all, it's important to limit your exposure. I didn't have wifi nor TV, I had been doing everything on my cellphone or tablet, reading, research, watching videos and writing. But I didn't come across the subject of blue light until almost 5 years in. 😖 I had surgery, surgeon said those were the thickest, hardest cataracts she'd ever removed. My ins. Covered one correction in the new lenses, my choice of the near sightedness or astigmatism. I chose nearsightedness as astigmatism is not big issue and I can read, crochet without glasses. And blublockers when using wireless devices. The new vision is amazing. The only bad part was second eye they inserted IV but didn't come back and administer anesthesia. Then man comes over and says he's going to put this speculum in my eye. I would've remembered that if I hadn't had anesthesia the first time! I kept saying no wait I didn't get anesthesia yet, calling for nurse, someone, while he had to put that damn thing in 5 times because he kept getting my eyelashes caught in it. I couldn't protest anymore when wheeled up to surgeon and I knew I must remain absolutely still and I was completely freaking out inside. I'm so squeamish about eyes assured of anesthesia was the only way I would consider the surgery blind or not. So I felt the shit in the eye, saw the colored liquid squirt across the field of vision, felt the incision and same, managed not to vomit, scream, but then my toe twitched. The surgeon called out "Don't move!!" I said "I'm trying!!" Ow!!" She said an octave or two higher, "You can FEEL it!?!?" Yeesss!!! Do t move I'm going to put the lense in now. Almost done but don't move. I didn't. I survived but when they told me to sit up a few minutes later, everyone had left the operating room. It was 9 am just like last time and then they were busy getting ready to do another patient.an attendant handed me my purse and went in the back. I left to the waiting room to speak to the receptionist to speak to someone I was very upset. No receptionist. Just my ride. My eye wasn't feeling good so I didn't go to the 24 hours follow up. I know I needed to but it felt like something was not smooth on my eye, I couldn't move my eye to the right and had to lay down with it closed and the protective glass on it. Couldn't stand to stand up. I called and told them and they just said ok come in as soon as you can. It was feeling like that again a few days later when my one week follow up with my original opthalmologist came up. The eye surgeons office didn't say anything and I told opthalmologist what had happened and how it felt and I had to lie down with it closed again and I would have to go later. I was angry, upset. I put all my trust in them to even think about doing it. The first eye went so great. Amazing. The second was a nightmare. Not only the way it felt but going through that aware and feeling and seeing the fluids, it hurt! Struggling nott to move, vomit and having the Willie's. No one listening to me. Then when everyone disappeared I was disgusted. Someone face me. I wouldn't even expect them to admit what they did, made a mistake, liability. But face me. See if I am ok. Not professional although the experience and referrals were there. I was hurt, angry, frustrated and uncomfortable and scared. When it felt like it wasn't laying down smooth like the other was fine. When I couldn't go 24 hours after I feel they should have reached out to me later that day and the next day. Extra care under the circumstances. But they kept quiet because they were afraid I would sue them, even at the risk something was wrong. They called me several months later meekly asking if there was anything they could do for me. Did I need anything for my vision, to be seen, any issues.I said you didn't say anything about any follow ups this long after. They said no just checking to see if there was anything I needed they could help me with. I couldn't even find words. I just said after the last time I was there, no I don't think so. I'd rather not risk an unpleasant visit again and didn't have difficulty AT THAT TIME. I should have gone in, I still should. I need to go back to the opthalmologist and let them do the tests they couldn't do because of the cataracts, and I was going to have them do an adjustment on the glasses they gave me for the time until I had surgery. He said he couldn't help much but if I wanted they could help a little. That was better than nothing but that was the best pair of glasses I have ever had. I loved the way they looked, felt. Never had any that I was happy with the way they looked in my life. I got bad kidney infection at beginning of this year and diabetes went nuts, infection whole body had to be taken out to ER, crazy neighbor was in my apt. Before she'd call 911 and stole the glasses! Plus other things then she called when I couldn't speak anymore. She always buys tons of readers, doesn't get prescription glasses and takes the only pair I ever liked, plus some meds, several of my belongings. I suppose I might be able to find the same ones back at the opthalmologist office. That and a couple accidents on the mobility scooter when I was blind into traffic and fractured wrist, concussion, even though I can see now, scooter is dead but it still is frightening to even go out once a month to Dr. Or to eye Dr to do the responsible thing. Every time I went out for so long, accidents then the second surgery. I make appts. Then cancel them. I don't have anyone to go with me for moral support. I need to get it done but I feel, well, better off not leaving home though I know it's not so. And all those thousands of dollars the insurance paid for that. They should be refunded for the anesthesia I didn't get and the anesthesiologist's services not provided that time because that was four different charges for almost $2000. Just that. I was so tickled with the first time, seeing so clearly only 30 minutes later and a registration card from Bausch & Lomb with the lense serial number on it, the correction, surgeon signature, I thought that and how I could see was the best thing ever. I don't want to discourage people from getting the surgery, not my point at all. But if something is wrong and you speak up and they don't listen, yell louder and make them listen. Stop the process if you have to. Chances of what happened to me happening to anyone else are slim so slim I'm sure. But it's important. We trust medical professionals to treat us and do procedures all the time between physical to dental, eye, whatever. We agree to do as we're told and they are going to do w HH at they specify, we sign waivers acknowledging risks, that we've been informed. And we turn our bodies and peace of mind over to them and trust they're going to do their part as best they can. Humans make mistakes but if someone is calling out for nurse anybody!! No wait don't put that thing in my eye yet!! Someone help please!! No you're fine hush and hold still. I should have yelled my loudest and fought them when they rolled me over to surgeon but I was restrained by that time. That completely freaked me out too!! I had no idea this all happened the first time. Freaking out and was told to be quiet hold still, my eyeballs were depending on it so I did. Sorry!! I didn't have any intention of coming unglued in here at all! But I think maybe my dumb story can be important somehow somewhere. I hope so, wouldn't feel like that part is for naught. But these things can be this life altering for some of us,even though a surgeon sees one after another pass before them and it's just different cataracts,or tumors, or dental surgery, etc. But it can be so so much more to individuals. Especially psychotically squeamish about eyeballs weirdos such as I. 🥺😭

      @@smartasspatriot445 Wow, what an ordeal. My wife had a bump in her left eye vision late 2019. Went to the specialist 50 miles away. "you have a macular edema. I can not operate as I can not see through your cloudy lens. Must have cataract surgery first." She went through some of the crap you went through. Of course had to the right eye cataract too. Left eye on a good day is 20/80. Has pressure in that left eye. Sees eye specialist several times a year. She gets shots in the eye, but not every time. I failed to point out that some years ago for my PC I went back to using a LCD screen. I am not one that is glued to the smart phone. Still on original eyes at age 74.

My optician says this cannot be because the drops cannot reach the cataract. What do you think of these drops? Am I imagining the improvement?
