I was nearsighted for almost 55 yrs . At the age of 70 I had cataract surgery one eye at a time. I was terrified because we don’t know what’s going to happen and noticed right away my vision was clear in one eye and after 3 weeks another eye. After a month my eyes were close to 20/20 vision. I was so lucky because being myopic my entire life I became farsighted. Thanks to Dr Sangani of Kaiser Permanente in SSF, Ca. 2021 when I had my surgery.

Good video. Gets quickly to the point; well-organized info; clearly addresses primary concerns. I learned a lot ahead of my upcoming cataract evaluation.

I just have one eye. Lost the other eye as a child. Now I am old and a few days ago saw a specialist in cataract removal. He said that my cataract is a level 3, but to be honest, my symptoms aren't bad enough for him to do the surgery at this time. My vision is 20/15. It just takes me a long time to focus, and colors look a little drab. My biggest problem is photophobia. So he is in no hurry to operate since he feels that even with a 1% chance of complications, he wants me to hold off until it gets worse. Your video is helpful to me, even though most does not apply, it helps in deciding what type of lens I will need. I do know I want to go monofocal, and I thought I wanted reading but it is starting to make sense to go with distance and getting drugstore reading glasses for near. It would be a money saver in the long run.

Please try your best not to do cataract surgery. Why would you want to do surgery with 20/15 vision. There are a lot of complications that can happen especially when you are old.

Thank you Dr.Chua. Candidate for surgery in one eye. Lots of looking for the right decision. May just leave up to the surgery doctor, since there's really no real guarantee & no turning back.

Great timing. My right eye has definitely started to show signs of cataracts. My left is still fairly healthy. I’m also nearsighted (both eyes) and wearing progressive lenses. Though my near vision is really good about 4-5inches without my glasses. I’m definitely leaning toward multi-focal iols.

I just brought my elderly mother home today after she got her second eye down (the first was done a week before COVID-19 was announced and the second got deferred until now). I wish I got to watch this video before I took her in yesterday :-/

Dr Chua, might you expound the choices of lens lean towards the patient's dominant eye to be monofocal, if they experience dizziness. The non-dominant eye can be 'extended focus' to widen the sweet spot.

Very good information! Much appreciated. Thanks / I'm looking for an Ophtalmologist in SouthJersy area. I haven't been able to find one yet! I think I am a cndidate for one eye surgery. I've tried to get info from a previous Ophtalmologist but he seemed not want to take the time to explain anything. I didn't go back!

I am hyperopic (roughly +3) and after surgery the difference with my other eye makes me see as if my eyes were crossed if I'm wearing glasses - fully double vision, just horrid. No go! I can't tolerate contacts for more than a couple of hours at a time, so I'm having my other eye done in a few weeks. The cataract there is not as advanced but if it behaves anything like the first one, I'll go from "fine" to "almost blind" in a year max :D

I just had cataract surgery in my left eye using a multifocal lense. My right eye surgery will happen in a month. Right now, I have one clear eye and one badly blurred eye. It’s giving me headaches. Should I use an eye patch now so Im only using the vision from my good new eye?

I’m a victim of anisometropia because of a measurement error. I was at -10.5 in both eyes and a cataract in only one eye. Now I’m at -6.5 and -10.5. And looking at years until the other cat at is ready.

I had a cateract operation two weeks ago, I was told I would have a distance lens put in, but my point of focus is about 40cm with a depth of field of about 20cm. I seem to have got an eye infection as I am on drops and a cream for a month. When I saw the surgen the day after I could not see anything other than blurry shapes and colours but now it is clear but out of focus. Will I get distance when the infection has cleared ? what can be done if I cannot see distances ?.

I’m not sure if you will see this comment/question since this was another video you made a year ago where you tested the eye compress temperature. I purchased the plug in eye compress you recommended and I noticed it heated up on its surface to over 44.2C on one side and 47.8 C on the other side. You didn’t appear to measure your plug in compress’s surface just your eyelid surface so I’m not sure if the compress I ordered maybe getting too hot for my eyes. Perhaps mine heats up too hot? Is it possible for you to measure the surface of your compress and let me know the temperature? It could be that the device has to measure warmer in order to get the eye that optimal temperature. I’m too leery of measuring my eyes surface temperatures since I already have low vision. Thank you for your videos. I’ve really enjoyed them.

Just had right eye done mono plus lense. 2 weeks after still a little double vision and slight pos dysphotopsia but should all be good after months recovery. My left eye has cataract but told it was off to side a bit. My left eye is a little hazey. Should i just go ahead and get the scond eye done now with same or different lense? Or wait till eyesight gets really bothersome.

  • @Swenser
    @Swenser 2 месяца назад +4

Btw. You can still use cheap glasses if different fl. Buy two sets amd swap out lenses. Prescription glasses are expensive.

My eye surgery Results was horrible. I could read news papers, books, tv with or without my glasses with no problem. I could drive with no vision problem, but after my cataract surgery, I see double numbers and letters plus blurry spots plus distortion. My two pair of glasses I bought since my May 2024 surgery, don’t help me at all. And now I can’t drive. I was better off without the surgery. Note, have three or more doctors look at it, Note2. Don’t get it done if you can see ok.

I don'tunderstand. Why would having -4 in one eye and -2.5 in the other give you distance vision?

I believe he forgot to say you would still need prescription glasses. I am getting left eye first and will take that lens out of my glasses and wait to see if I should have right eye done also, will get mono lens for distance

Here in the UK, even if both eyes have thick cataracts, they only operate on one eye, and if you are lucky, a few months later, they will do the second eye.
