  • As promised, here's a link to our episode of the Worst NFL Playoff Game: • The Worst NFL Playoff ...
    In January 2016, the Packers and Cardinals faced off with a chance to go to the NFC Championship. That meant Larry Fitzgerald and Aaron Rodgers had quite the spotlight for the spectacle they put on. Multiple Hail Marys, overtime domination, future Hall of Famers going blow for blow - it was a game that escalated into an epic.

    A: No. It's a great moment, we're just thankful it happened to involve a bunch of them.

      1000% this. This year is the first season that I've actually been excited to watch my team's D since Nick Collins went down game 1 in 2011. Statistically we were between okay-ish and decent in a few of those years, but anyone who actually watched the games knew better than to count on them when we needed them.
      Doesn't matter how well they performed when it didn't matter when you could damn near guarantee they were going to break rather than bend when we needed them. Worse still, not only did they always break when it mattered, but they always took their time breaking, making sure the opposing team chewed up absurd amounts of time. Several times it genuinely would have been better to have just let the other team score un-touched on their first play, just to give Rodgers time.

      @DrZaius3141 3 года назад +3

      Not even close to 50/50. Only about 30% of the Packers' plays went further than 2 yards - and that's with usually a lot more space to work with and often soft coverages. Their goal line and red zone play was abyssmal as well. Yes, they averaged 5.4y per offensive snap, but take away the 3 big plays and this dips to 2.7y. And mind you, for a 2PC it's not about the average but about the median.
      So no. The Packers managed to stay in the game because every now and then they completed a big play, not because they reliably moved the chains. If a 2PC were 3 downs from the 20, it might have been a 50/50, but with just a single attempt from the 2, it would have been suicide.

    I think what really makes this series so cool is that we spend all this video on the build up to a moment. And the moment is played as just that. No crazy editing. No replays. Just how it was done at the moment. There's something so cool and sobering about it.
