Project Binky - Episode 1 - Austin Mini GT-Four - Turbo Charged 4WD Mini
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июл 2024
- In the first episode of Project Binky, we take a rotten old Austin Mini and strip it down to a bare shell. We then take an angle grinder to it and cut it to pieces. It's only then that the customised rebuilding process starts.
We're trying to create one of the fastest Minis on the planet. We're going to rebuild it with the engine and running gear from a Toyota Celica ST185 GT4. Or at least that's the plan. Whether it comes off or not is another matter. We're filming this as it happens so what you see is only a few weeks behind where we're actually at so we're not sure yet whether we can do it. That's kind of the fun though.
Stick with us through the highs and the lows of the project. Hopefully it'll be worth the agony and cash.
Feel free to share it far and wide!
Thanks for watching.

I find it somewhat poetic that 7 odd years later when we finally find out what colour they are going for, it’s more or less the same bloody colour. Love it.
Haha you’re right! This channel is complete gold!
I know this is an old comment, but each ep starts off with 'Project Binky in colour!' and its a black and white mini
To be fair someone already figured out it'd be white, or off white due to the name of Project Binky. It's a Discworld refrence, to Death's skeleton horse.
@@NEEDbacon honestly when it had the yellow fender flares i was thinking pac man, seeing as one of the ghosts is binky
@@NEEDbacon I believe the color is "bone." =]
Okay, I admit, pointing out the color name is… beating a dead horse? =]
I'll see myself out.
2:16 in and he already said 'for how ever many months' and here we are over 9 years later literally almost a decade, people have been conceived and born and watched the full series before it's completion.. Nick hasn't aged at all and is still his funny self! Maybe he would have aged if it took months to build.
He's only aging for the months they thought it would take. I think that's the secret to near eternal life.
Just think in a short 6 years, 4 months, 8 days the panel gaps will have been all sorted.
Haha, I came here to post pretty much the same comment, kudos.
I'm guilty of watching this when it was posted about two days old .
You need to count in month because that how Nick counts, gotta have the continuity.
@@Nanorisk good point didn't think of that👍😆
OUCH!!! We didn't even get to hear it run! What happened to the rest of the build??? 😩
"come in out of the sunshine to this corner of the workshop for however many months"
7 YEARS LATER
Just about to hit eight, now.
103 months still counts as 'however many'
104 is indeed a number
9 YEARS LATER
this is crazy dude
Who else is here to binge watch the whole series for the 2020 lockdown?
beat me to it
Yes yes must watch BINKY. “Make the noiiiiiise”
To be fair, this is not my first time round binge watching this incredible series...
*raises hand*
Hell yes
Best build show ever... about a thousand times better than those stupid manufactured-drama reality TV build shows on every fucking station. Looking forward to the rest.
John H Thanks John.
When you're ready to start up Binky for the first time with the GT-Four, I still want to hear this: 1:39
You got your wish granted. 😆
And here you go ... ruclips.net/video/oFuu5jtbGiw/видео.html
"They say it can't be done. They might be right. We'll get in the workshop and have a go." And what a go it's been. I feel happy, and proud, to have been given the privilege to watch this happen. And we're not done yet!
Raise your hand if this is the fifty eleventh time youve restarted watching the series before the next episode drops
Today is December 24, Christmas Eve, 2019. Just watched episode 28. Getting ready for paint! When you started this project I had a full head of hair, single and no kids! Today I'm bald, married and got two kid! Wow! I've enjoyed every moment and today's episode I watched with my son who loves Binky! Great job men!
I don't know if I should laugh or cry at this comment LoL 😂
@@jayburrough4308 hahahhahaha both
So can we conclude that kids make men go bald?
Ahahah 😂
So now that your son is moved out, married and has 3 kids, how do your teenage grandkids think the project is coming along?
2019 and I'm about to start my 4th? 5th? watching of this series. Who's with me!
I just started watching around episode 13 to the last one I think 24. So I figured I'd catch up on the 1st 10 or so episodes I skipped and was shocked that it was 2013 that he started .
ya i think i am on my 3rd at least
2019 and I've managed to avoid watching any so far
@@will5948 😁😁
2020 and I’m on my 6-7th
This corner of the workshop for however many months!, 7 years later!?!?!
I started again. Just to grab the joy of having a new episode, in five years time.
"That's a quarter of an inch if you're watching in black and white"
Lmao
Came here to say this in 2024. Glad I checked the comments first.
76 months later and it's to be painted in the coming spring 2020.
yeah, they said just a couple months! haha
You know what is scary, as yet they haven't talked about the engine much, as far as I can tell there is a few things needing done yet.
@@jimallen9442 there you are
the painting is coming in part 33 finally
October 2020 and no sign of it yet. Waiting...waiting....
In the time since I first watched this episode (within days of its release, believe it or not. A happy coincidence with looking up some Celica stuff) I've been married and divorced, had a kid, moved across the country several times and changed careers twice.
Good show, lads. It's been a blast.
"however many months...." Man how they were shooting low! I caught this build series at ep 15, and have since watched all episodes multiple times. I wait anxiously for a new episode every day.
Same here, every time a new one comes out its rewatch time :)
I was just thinking the same, here we are 8 years later waiting for episode 38 😂😂
I'd like to thank Doc of Doc's Machine for introducing me to this wonderful series. I've nearly choked on my coffee twice this morning laughing.
"for how ever many months" this statement was 5 years ago.
ya now 5 year plus 2 months since this vid was posted
Exactly the same thing i was thinking when he said it. :)) fuck, it's been so long already. I don't want it to finish though!
How ever many months is up to 65 and counting. Ah, project cars.
i say we make the 6 year anniversary a bank holiday
@@chrisw8794 yup.
With Binky in the paintshop, I thought it was a great time to come back and rewatch the entire series, even though I already watched all of it half a year ago
I'm doing the same while we wait for episode 38
Ive come from 7 years in the future, an I know what colour it is going to be!
I'm just now finding this channel, and I have to say this is great! Love the idea, and you guys seem to really know what you're doing both in the shop and behind the camera.
+Sir Mutton Chops Thank you sir. It's all an elaborate ruse though.
If this stays online ppl are gonna laugh hard in a couple of decades at these methods and 7 years spent on the project to start it up and especially us following it for 7 years. Man, we got old, started when I felt still young. 😁
One day, bored out of my skull, about 6 ears ago, I was hooning around RUclips. I came across some car thing. ''Project Binky ep3.'' I clicked on the video, and watched as two mates chopped and modded a mini. Perfect! right down my street. Happily I watched ep1 and 2. I noted the copious use of the ''marks and sparks'' type trolley, yet I don't live in the UK. Well I did, and hooned around supermarkets in a juggernaut, but that's another story. I have to thank these to mates, as I have watched ''Project Binky'' from start to finish about 10 times. I'm bored again, and here we go. Number 11. Thanks guys for several years of classic entertainment. Oh the kettle is missing from the rolling credits, in Binky P1 outtakes. Gordon Bennett!! More Tea!!!!
"Why make things easy for yourself when you can make it incredibly difficult and complicated?" If the last four years have been any indication, a more prescient statement has likely never been made.
Hands up all those rewatching the entire Project Binky series during quarantine!
This is my 3rd time rewatching
Why exactly would quarantine make any difference to the number of times you binge watch Binky 🤣
9 Years on and Episode 1 shows up in my interest feed. How dare you tempt me for the thousandth time!!! Guess I'll get the kettle on then... Long may it continue!! 28 May 2023 now!
I've been saving watching this series for almost a year..........that was 4 years ago!!!!.........Binge watching this series now.....never knew that you guys were from my old stomping grounds!!!
Simply amazing. I love that its all honest, you see the work being done not just magically finished. And the dedication to saving that specific car and not just tossing it. Cant wait for more!
thegreatmrp Thanks very much!
You may be able to take the engine and drivetrain out of the Toyota and shoehorn it into the Mini (I don't know, I haven't skipped ahead) but just imagine what you'd get if you stuffed the engine and drivetrain from the Mini a stuffed it into the Toyota! That's right a project nobody, and I mean NOBODY has ever done much less contemplated ever doing. A true act of lunacy... Perhaps even in a good sense.
Its been so long since the last installment of project binky i had forgotten how much these guys make me smile!
C'mon guys, sort yer sh!t out
Looking back to the start of this project in 2020 it only serves to highlight the incredible amount of foresight displayed in the build.
Watching craftsmen is always like watching magic to amateurs. This is no different.
B.o.m. are fantastic.
Episode 2 just finished filming, we're editing it soon, so it won't be long to wait now!
So excited for it!
LOL, looking back at this from May 2021
Oh man. This aged well
Well shot, edited and humerus commentary. A mad project to boot!
Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Thank you. There's 5 more for you to enjoy already!
Epic intro 😂
Can’t believe I haven’t done this already, but I’m watching this legendary series from the beginning again 💪
I'm re-watching this series to keep me company while I clean my workspace. Hello from across the pond. =) I hope some day I can be as hopelessly nerdy as you all are.
Thanks Brucie! We aim to please. Next episode is tentatively scheduled for mid October.
Good God it's been 7 years. Started this before my son was born, now we're watching it together.
I've got 5 year old twins. Mental.
Wow you guys need to be on TV inspiring future young engineers a privilege to watch
They say it can't be done. Ive watched the whole series at least twice, and I still believe that it cant be done.
I´ve seen all of Drive, MotorTrend, MCM, AMMONYC, The Smoking Tire, Scotty Kilmer, EricTheCarGuy and a bunch of other car related channels. I must say, your sense of humor combined with your mechanical know-how makes this show very entertaining. I really mean these words and hope you will read them and smile. Behind this comment you´ll find one very happy fan! (btw: I´m not Phil Jones, but I´ll guess you already knew that!)
Phil Jones That's awfully nice of you to say, thank you!
"A crazed loon fighting a duck bill platypus!"
I actually laughed out loud at the part where you show us all the rust spots you found! Im so glad I found your channel that I hit the sub button about half way through this video. Cant wait to burn through the rest of the series!
Just bought a '91 Cooper and looking for all things mini............. And I've just discovered this!.....................Much enjoyment ahead!!!!
To this day , I started watching this when I was 12 , 18 and still watching back from the start !
I just wanted you guys to know how much I've enjoyed watching this series. You boys are absolutely brilliant! Cheers!
mike ply Thank Mike, really appreciate it!
*insert jiggling pink pen in a rust hole*
"Here."
Lost it XD You're just brilliant!
When I was young I started watching this build, now I am my 40’s & it still isn’t finished. But it is the best detailed build ever. Love every minute of it
Sod it, I’ll watch em over again!
You guys are a great mix of technical brilliance ad FUNNY. I think the project is out of sight to. Thanks for putting it all together !
+Shawn McWhorter Thanks for watching!
2:13 .. "however many months". haha. almost 3 years. keep up the good work!!
ya now 5 years
ffs I was gonna write the same. I'll come back in 2 years
It's now been 6.5 years and it's just gone off to paint in today's episode. I got all nostalgic and had to re-watch the very beginning.
Just discovered this brilliant project. This is what all TV should have been.
Saw and watched the episode 33...
The other day.... Finally now from episode 1!
Feb 2021..... I'm so project binky obsessed! ....
Great videos. I love the opening credits with the theme song and credits from Police Squad. Classic!
Thanks!
Subscribed. Thanks to Tom's Turbo Garage for cameo-ing this channel in his latest vid!
Came to see the beginning again. Sweet!
Here... here... here... here... here... here... here... here... here...
I stumbled across the series in high school before I could drive now I patiently wait for a new episode to watch with my wife.
Excellent - very watchable, informative and full of terrible jokes that make all well with the world.
Damn, I hate myself for not having found this channel earlier. :-)
Well all you have to do now is wait for another 4 moths or so for eps14
How long is a moth?
About three flutterbys
Dude wholey shit same

It's such a pleasure to watch such great re-engineering to get around any issues you come up against and have a bloody good laugh along the way. I've just watched Episode 32 and can't wait for 33. Hell of a good job guys.
brilliant! voice over, editing, humour, build goals, and skill are all on point. glad I'm watching this 3 years in the future, the wait would kill me.
In color!!!
Yep, and with sound too.
*colour ;)
DrathVader Yes of course, it has to be colour!! Thanks!
Everything about the project, vision, approach, methods, Nick, narration is the fucking bollocks. I'm hooked and if I ever need a serious project doing I know who I'm gonna call. Spot. On.
+tarmacsurfers That's kind of you to say. Thanks
I'm here again in 2021, just after Binky has left the paint shop, wanting to relive the epicness of the first episode and remind myself of just how nuts this whole project was right from the start. And to think, they hadn't even made a bracket or a negative jig thingy yet! 🤘😎
Good morning from Australia! I recently binge watched your entire project Binky series, which inspired me to get my own project car!
Just bought a 89 Subaru Brumby/Brat! You both are an inspiration and I look forward to rewatching all your videos!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! I didn't think anybody else in the states knew of Police Squad, let alone someone from abroad. Good show, old bean. Good Show. Priceless, absolutely priceless. I can imagine a few from "the colonies" not getting the humour, but I dig it! You fellas should be on the BBC right after Top Gear!
Police Squad - utter genius. Thank you.
I have just discovered this series and watched all the episodes in a row. I am back here to say that some of the engineering in these videos is simply awesome, and this tilting jig is simply amazing. You know you are a hell of anengineer when off-the shelf tools and cranes simply dont cut it and you need to make your own :P.
Keep up the good work and greets from Greece
mantzini Thank you!
Just started following...watched #16 & #17, and then checked for #1 four years ago...OMG! LOL
You guys are awesome!
I watched 15 episodes over 2 days......absolutely addicted. Love the whole idea of this project and the attention to detail is astounding. Sooo looking forward to the next episode!
Every so often, I like to come back and rewatch all the episodes, because there's just not enough of this level of expert craftsmanship on RUclips.
Thanks!
I do it as a ritual to get a new episode
Cant wait for the project to be done and see the result
I keep rewatching all the episodes, makes me want to quit my job and get a plane ticket to go help you gyes out
Excellent work guys you are a true inspiration! I've watched project binky 3 times now and cannot wait for the next episode....
Dear RUclips why have you waited 7 years to show me this brilliantly Sarcastic Automotive Rebuild series. Why I really need to know 7 years and 30+ episodes of a show I didn't know I need in my life.
man. its come a long way
they say the sun will burn out and go dim in 5,000,000 years........
BOM: "Then we'll finish Project Binky in the dark!!"
After 9 years I've once again watched Episode 1. 'Love Nik's comment: "'Shouldn't take long". 🤣🤣🤣
Oh, you can not only see how far the project has come, but also see how much more quality the videos have become, with only mouseclicks in narration bits being remaining minor mishaps in otherwise perfect videos, while the level of prowess of my favorite 2 race engineers has stayed on point. Absolutely adore this series.
"shouldn't take long"
famous last words, lmao
Thats my pickup line.
Just “how ever many months” I’m still watching these 6 years later. 😂
Love coming back and watching the first few episodes of Binky when I'm down in the dumps, automotive engineering porn cheers me up :p
Almost 6 years now and it's just about time for an engine and paint, can't fudging wait.
This has just come up on my RUclips suggestions. One day past it’s 7th birthday 🍰 I might as well watch them all over again then 😃👍
amazing how young you look on this video. 5 years can be a long time ;)
I stumbled across this and I'm really impressed. I don't want to make a direct comparison but a lot of thee style shows are from the States where the engineering work is terrible and the body work is worse. Or the other shows feature mechanics who don't have a clue about body or metal fabrication. This showed some good quality clean work with an entertaining production without all the B.S injected drama.
Subscribed and i look forward to more
Thanks Tom!
I couldn't have put it better myself Tom.
Well done old chaps.
"B.S. injected drama" several thumbs up :D :D :D
@@dozer1642 perhaps the famously dry scone.
I just found this series and sat and watched the whole lot in one go. Boy am I pissed that you're not finished... Just kidding, the humour is even better than the car build. Great show guys. Thank you
Have followed this build from the beginning. Decided to go back and binge watch this from the start again today. Am even drinking builders tea from my BOM mug. "This is our home for the next however many months". 96 as of Dec 2021 and counting...
as-fuckin-tonishing! you guys do everrything right and cool, this is the best car project i've ever seen, you have all the knowledge and a really nice sense of humor !! thank you very very much for doing this and sharing this !!

Sad to say this is new to me, glad I eventually found it though. I love the little references in there.
Just found this channel - presented with build you own mini shell from scratch & some nutty idea of fitting some oriental running gear - mental - but I love it 👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤩👊
Happy Birthday Binky, and congrats on the first start. Going to be re-watching all again!

I’m here to start watching this series April 2019
Was browsing around for some car resto vids and found this... Highly entertaining proper car resto and great narration... Thanx for going through the trouble. Keep strong.
