TLC's Sister Wives Reveals The Darker Side Of Why Polygamy Isn't Legal

TLC's Sister Wives has returned for it's 18th season and the hypocrisy, inconsistencies, and out right lights are being exposed.
The Brown family constantly told the audience that Polygamy could work as a practical alternative lifestyle. What they have demonstrated is why legislators struggle to turn a blind eye to the downsides of polygamy. I don't care about the sex lives of adults. What concerns me is the desolation and inherent inequality of participants who want to leave these unions.
In previous seasons, Kody claimed that "none of the wives were prisoners. They could leave whenever they wanted." it was also stated by Christine that "Kody would give a departing wife money and buy her a house." What we have seen in the last two seasons, as two of the wives leave the family is the exact opposite.
If polygamy is going to be presented as possibility for families, I would like to have the deeper discussion of how we can codify protections for participants decide to leave.
